I've spent a decent portion of my life in Billings and somehow Bernie's Diner never made it on my radar. Unfortunately, this morning I wasn't hungry, but my family was. Upon walking into Bernie's Diner, it felt like we were walking back into the sixties. I asked various relatives about this place, and everyone knew about it and highly recommended it. Why didn't they tell me about it? My family really seemed to enjoy their breakfast. Though what they ordered was basic diner food, I'm a fan of diner food. I did have a chance to taste everything, and it tasted great! I loved the atmosphere. The service here was great! We'll certainly be back, and I'll make sure I'm hungry next time. I would love to try their Chicken Fried Steak or Elk Steak. Stay tuned for an updated review after I've eaten at Bernie's Diner.

Cool old school diner vibes inside. Super clean, very friendly staff who were all so kind and joyous. Great coffee, delicious food! Thank you!!

When visiting my family in Billings, we like to eat at Bernie's Diner. It's the perfect spot for brunch on Sundays. They have large portions, tasty food, good prices, large mugs of coffee & great service. I enjoy their eggs Benedicts and my husband likes their skillets. I need to do an intense workout before my next visit so I can try the Vacation Breakfast, which the menu describes "fishy double chocolate cake served with a frosting-dipped chocolate Wilcoxon's Creamery milkshake. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

I ordered eggs Benedict. terrible idea. will make you sick.the hollandaise spice was disgusting. just look at the picture. By far terrible food and service. I had to ask for coffee while other customers were serving with out asking? Hum.... Basica I was ignored even while trying to pay my bill :(((

The tiniest microscopic little dish of fruit was THIRTEEN DOLLARS. I'm actually astonished that a tiny little tin of fruit was thirteen dollars. They didn't have sourdough toast at 6:30 am and this was my "over medium" eggs.

    Wonderful coffee !

Great find! We stopped here after hauling a trailer x country having to wait around for 3 days foe a part. I was hangry and road weary when I walked in. What a great way to start the day off . Great menu & loved the coffee cups! I wanted to steal one but wouldn't. Everything was delicious and staff was lovely. I really want one of those coffee cups!

I was a bit hesitant and had kept my expectations low before I came, given several discouraging reviews I read on the internet, but I'm happy to say I had a very pleasant experience. I went on a Tuesday morning for breakfast, which was excellent because it was so quiet. Finding parking was easy. The establishment is associated with The Northern Hotel, and their guests would have breakfast here, so I would expect a much larger crowd on the weekends. The ambiance was 10/10. Clean rows of round stools and the counter on the left and tables next to the window on the right. It gives a retro diner vibe but with a slightly modern and clean feel. I suppose because it was a slow morning, the service was also more relaxed than I expected. The menu is classic diner meals, some with a more Montanan twist. I contemplated between the elk skillet and the stuffed banana bread french toast. The banana bread french toast sounded so indulgent as it was filled with mascarpone mousse, dipped in creme brulee batter, and drizzled with huckleberry syrup. However, I'm not ready for a sugar spike to crash later when I'm about to catch a flight in 1.5 hours. (Next time, maybe!) Thus, I went with the elk skillet--breakfast potato, elk sausage, black bean, mushroom, queso fresco, and eggs. I also asked for sourdough toast on the site. Their jam is homemade, and the flavor changes every week. The dish was so fragrant, and the aroma hit my olfactory nerves the moment the skillet landed on the table. It was the perfect portion (for me); not too big, but it filled me past lunchtime. I suppose it was because it was so loaded with protein. It was my first time trying elk sausage. It's much leaner, thus chewier but lighter, than beef or pork. The spice gives an occasional fresh kick of heat. One disappointment was that I asked for poached eggs, but they were served over-easy and well done, but I don't feel like sending them back. Why ruin a good morning? The rest of my breakfast was enjoyable. I love the homemade jam. It was only very slightly sweet and more tart. I highly recommend having a toast and jam on the side with the skillet. It balances the flavor profile nicely. Although some things could have been better, I'm glad I tried anyway. If I come back to Billings, I would love to come back.

    Is it worth the wait??

This experience really is not worth commenting on, but here it goes…read more I ordered the tenderloin sandwich. It arrived as a small tenderloin, two pieces of toast cut in half, fries and nothing else. I sat there for over half an hour. I thought, "Hell, maybe she will bring fixins and I will have two small sandwiches. She finally come back, I asked about the sandwich, and she told me it was an open face sandwich. I said ma'am this is a small steak and fries and she began to lecture me about not asking about the meal when I ordered it. I asked why would I ask when it clearly stated tenderloin sandwich. She also told me it had been that way 40 years. Well, it has been wrong for 40 years. I would have forged ahead and ate it if it was edible. It was absolutely terrible. It had the consistency of liver and was fried hard on the outside and completely flavorless. I said let me pay and get out of here. She stomped off to talk to the owner whom was the guy I had observed drinking a lot of wine at the end of the bar. He told her I had to pay for it because I ate the meal and if I still had a problem, to speak to him. I did not eat it. Heck, I even tried to pay for the garbage before she stomped off. Since I did not eat it, I asked to speak to him. He would not come to the table and instead showed his pride and customer service and motioned to me to walk across the place to speak to him at the bar while he continued to suck down wine. He said again, you ate it, you'll pay for it. Again, I told him I did not eat it. Once sippy mcsipperson realized I did not eat it, he said I had to pay for it because I ordered it. Moving the goal posts! Dude was drunk! Lol I told him the waitress was extremely rude and argumentative. He told me he was going to beat her for it. Then he proceeded to tell me I was full of it because his tenderloin was his most famous and desired steak and everyone loved it. He said Montana was known for beef and asked where I was from. Montana might raise beef but this not so fine establishment could not cook beef to save its life. Even after I paid the bill the waitress continued to bother me about it as I was trying to leave. If you want to waste your money, you can play the machines or but a meal at Gusick's. Good luck and godspeed.

The food was good not great , breakfast was served warm not hot . I liked the road side dinner feel of the restaurant. If your in a hurry I'd look elsewhere for a quick breakfast, I'll give them another try for breakfast again at some point before I decide to keep them on or off the breakfast rotation list

Okay. Wow. I understand why this unlikely spot has great reviews…read more It's located in the Livestock Commission building and depending on the time of day or year, you might be dodging piles of stuff in the parking lot, so you know it's an authentic experience. The cattle and horse trailers can take up a good share of the parking lot. It's an unassuming cafe, no frills really, but its meant for the business of the building it's located in. If you want fancy, move along. What Hitt's the Spot does well is the food. And the genuine interest in the customers. It obvious the regulars, both the workers and the customers have dealt with each other on a routine basis. You can't fake that comraderie. Having stopped in for breakfast and at a loss as to what option sounded best, I was directed to the corned beef hash. I was told it was house-made and that was good enough for me. I wasn't disappointed. First, the portions are not skimpy. It was large chunks of corned beef, nicely shredded potatoes and large pieces of onion. There was no mistaking this for the hash out of a can, either by appearance or taste. I look forward to coming by to try some other things.
