My friend and I stopped in here to eat recently. One of the biggest mistakes I've ever made. I ordered a clam basket and he got a steak tip sub. The food came out less than three minutes after we ordered it. That should've set off the warning signals for me right away. My clams and fries were drowned in grease. My buddy's steak looked like dog food. The taste was OK. We got a couple drinks and the bill was over $100. Absolutely absurd for the terrible quality of this food. We parked about a block away and by the time we got to the car, we were both vomiting violently all over the street. On the half-hour ride home, I had to pull over twice for us to run into restrooms. Bernies is my favorite spot when I come to Hampton Beach. It feels so tropical on the upper deck. During the day they have calypso music which gives it a really beachy feel. I loved my pina colada and my mother loved her rum runner. The food was delicious too! We had the fried clams and nachos which were loaded with jalapenos cheese and black olives. To die for! When we came back that evening our waiter was Evan. He was so nice and friendly. He even flirted with my mom a little bit which really made her night. Sitting downstairs during the evening is advised because the people watching is absolutely hysterical. Good luck finding a spot upstairs if you go to Bernies on a busy weekend night. Went yesterday for a friend's birthday. The decor and the beach view are nice, and the facility is fine. They were completely unprepared for the crowd on a Saturday afternoon, however. I was ignored by one bartender for 15 minutes before moving to another part of the bar, where I was served. We waited 45 minutes longer than our estimated wait time for a table, and even then had to split our party. The waitress never brought my beer, or my wife's chowder. The burgers were very over cooked. Saw staff standing around in the restaurant which made me wonder why our service also took so long, and why the one water I started with was the only beverage I received. When I wrote my first review of Bernie's, I was pretty angry with their servers, and went off the rails. The bar itself was nice, and the food was pretty decent. Their wait staff was severely lacking, and their seats on the deck need more shade. When I first walked in, the staff was angry with me for walking in drinking a monster. Ok, I get it, I'm not allowed to, but maybe be apologetic instead of so aggressive? I wanted to nix the visit right there as I don't get along with people like that, but my friend had fond memories of the place, so we kept at it. Later on I had actually pull my plate back from a waitress after she had asked if she could take it from me, I said no, and she continued to take it anyway. We had other problems with the staff, But this was a few months back at the time of this revision so I don't remember the lesser issues. This bar is a really cool place w corn hole games , a stage for live bands, tons of tables for dining, a couple bars, and all this w an ocean view. Tonight however we had a poor experience - the hostess didn't even bother to hide her irritation when we inquired about a table for dinner. Instead of being friendly, offering us a pager, or directing us to the bar she was short tempered while reporting there were 150-200 parties ahead of us. (Translation - you're not welcome here) We passed on one being the 201st party to wait and headed to the bar where we found seats no problem and ordered cocktails. We counted about 10 empty tables around the bar but figured they didn't have the staff. After 1 cocktail we attempted to place an order for an appetizer and were told the kitchen was too busy and they were not permitting bar guests to order food. After another cocktail we checked in but the bartender reports she cannot serve us any food. All the while parties at the bar are being served food from the kitchen. We inquired w our bartender if the kitchen staff was low this evening and she reported no, that the kitchen is just really small since the restaurants renovations. Such a bizarre encounter tonight at Bernie's. We would have ordered apps , entrees, more cocktails, and likely dessert since it was my husbands birthday , but we headed up the strip and brought our business elsewhere. read more

Went there on a Sunday evening for dinner. There was a long line just to check in with hostess. After waiting in line for 5-10 minutes was told the wait would be 45-60 minutes. Hostess took my cell number and stated I would receive text when table was ready. Received text exactly 1 hour later. Had to go back to long hostess line. Tried to go in front stating I received alert that table was ready but hostess told me to wait and took care of other people first. After finally being seated we ordered food and drinks. Drinks came out quickly and were good but didn't seem strong. Our food, which consisted of 2 kids meals, a fried haddock sandwich and mahi tacos took well over an hour. I usually don't mind waiting for food, especially if it is busy but this seemed excessive. The waiter even acknowledged this and apologized for the wait. When the food finally came out everything was warm but not piping hot which was a bit of a disappointment since we waited so long. Kids enjoyed their grilled cheese and fish and chips and my haddock sandwich was very good. Atmosphere is good but the bar areas definitely seemed a little crazy. I would give this restaurant 4 stars if weren't for process and how long it took to be seated and how long it took to get food. read more

I love bernies ! Such a fun atmosphere, great drinks, and wonderful music. Rob on the patio always covers amazing songs of multiple genres, and there's live music on the main bar every night ! Not bad if you are going just for for drinks & apps, however not so good for entrees. We had 7 adults and 6 kids, the kids enjoyed their chicken tenders however only 1 adult liked their entree. The other 6 adults couldn't even eat the entrees. Tacos were dry and over cooked, the Red Snapper seemed to be a haddock (when asked about it, we were informed it was just prepared differently then the menu stated), and the stir fry was over cooked and tasted like pure salt (and I love salt). One of the kids also didn't get their meal We sat around 7:20, dinners didn't come out until 9:14pm (which is totally fine as we weren't in a rush) however, one of the security staff told a member of our party to get their kids and go as it's after 9. After spending more then $600, not being able to eat the entrees, and being told to "get your kids and go" we were very turned off. Our waitress was very nice however and I wish for her sake the security staff and food wasn't disappointing. She even said we did not have to leave, but at that point that's all we wanted to do. The drinks are strong, all the food I tried was great especially the bacon wrapped jalapeños which were perfect and came with a great aoli dip. They are incompetent of completing simple tasks such as getting drinks, our waitress spilled a water at our table and didn't bother to help clean up or offer to bring another one. While this was one upsetting factor the most idiotic thing is that they cannot make PLAIN PASTA. You must order an entree, they cannot make plain pasta. This was an issue because my sister has severe food allergies and she cannot eat most things. Plain pasta is always her best bet and they were incompetent once again. BY far the best food and drink on Hampton Beach with the best views, awesome bands, huge bars, great food and drinks and so much more. Check out their entertainment schedule. Very good food! Got the pulled pork sandwich (was huge!), rice and bean side, and a cup of clam chowder. All was very well prepared and didn't wait too long at all to get it. Overall atmosphere was very lively with great views over the ocean and sand. Only reason for the 4 out of 5 is the first time we tried to go there was a 2 hour wait to be seated. However the only slack here is management, seems to never know what is going on. I've seen larger restaurants with shorter table wait time and the wait time here is over rated. The employees. The security or bouncer guy whatever you call him, just stands there flexes all day and flirts with the staff, professional I think not. Also the staff is hit or miss, never consistent rarely smile, and are more interested with their cell phones, talking with another employee instead of being attentive to their guest, so be expected wait a long time for anything. The food, don't expect fine dining. Majority of the food is frozen, served on paper plates. They charge regular price for drinks, and serve you in a small plastic cup.. Went here tonight for my birthday hoping to sit and have a meal with my family and celebrate. We were sat down and weren't given a kids menu from the hostess who acknowledged we had a two year old with us. Our waitress took our order for our drinks, and then kept popping around to tables surrounding us and the only time she came over was when we called her over to ask questions about the food on the menu. Finally, she brings our drinks and tries running away and I had to catch her quickly to ask to put in an appetizer order. After another waitress brings us our appetizers and we had to ask her for plates, our waitress wanders over eventually and that's when we decided to ask for the check and bring our business elsewhere down the strip.
