Wanted to go on a Saturday adventure and came across the Yelp reviews for Old Place Steakhouse,…read moreespecially the reviews mentioning their Thick Cut Bacon. After reading those reviews, I decided to make the trip for lunch. The cutoff time for lunch is 4 PM, so I headed out and was very eager to finally try the place.
When I arrived at Old Place Steakhouse, I noticed how secluded it was, tucked away in the corner. There is parking in the back in case there isn't any available in the front. When I got out of my SUV, I immediately enjoyed the scenery and the rustic vibe. Since I wasn't familiar with the layout, I walked around for a bit and eventually found the To-Go area.
Here's a tip: If you park in the back, walk toward your left and look for the restroom. Walk past the restroom, and you'll find the To-Go section.
When I arrived, I was welcomed by a friendly staff member named Christina. She was very welcoming, and we had a great conversation. I told her that I had driven a long way and that the reviews about the Thick Cut Bacon were one of the main reasons I wanted to visit Old Place. She mentioned that the bacon is prepared in-house and hand-cut, which made me even more excited to try it.
I went ahead and ordered:
* Thick Cut Bacon -- 3 pieces
* Oak-Grilled Steak Sandwich with Mixed Green Salad
* Homemade Iced Tea
The Oak-Grilled Steak Sandwich comes with sirloin, Bleu Cheese Aioli, and grilled onions. The side salad comes with mixed baby greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, and their house-made vinaigrette dressing. The Iced Tea was infused with rosemary and lavender -- highly recommended!
While waiting for my order, I found a table and sat down. Once my order was ready, it was placed in a bag, and I started taking everything out of the containers. I was ready to finally try the sandwich.
This was one of the best steak sandwiches I have ever had.
The Bleu Cheese Aioli and grilled onions complemented the sirloin extremely well and added plenty of flavor. Of course, that's just my personal opinion, but I really enjoyed the combination. The side salad was also great, and I especially enjoyed the house-made vinaigrette dressing.
Now, let's talk about the bacon!
The bacon was fresh, and the pieces were very generous in size. I could taste the smokiness, and I really enjoyed the crunch of the outer edges. After hearing so much about the Thick Cut Bacon in the reviews, I'm happy to say it lived up to the hype.
As for the drink, since it was a bit warm that day, the Iced Tea was perfect. It was refreshing and very welcoming. There is only one size available, but it was a very generous portion. I loved that I could actually taste both the rosemary and lavender without either flavor being overwhelming.
Overall, my experience was great. The food was delicious, the rustic scenery made the trip feel like a little getaway, and the customer service I received from Christina made the experience even more worthwhile.
In my personal opinion, I would definitely recommend Old Place Steakhouse if you're looking for a nice getaway with great scenery and a good lunch. I would absolutely come back, especially for dinner, so I can try more of their menu.
