Real mesquite-smoked bbq in Thousand Oaks. Subconsciously, I think of the late, great, Anthony Bourdain when I think of being in an unfamiliar area. What I mean by that, is 1 small thing you can do to het acquainted with an unfamiliar area is to try local resturants. I knew that I was going to be in the area, so I Yelped nearby bbq restaurants. In these kinds of instances, I'm so glad that Yelp exists. Fellow yelpers didn't disappoint. FOOD: "4 Meat Combo" consisting of... Tri-Tip - 9.2 / 10 Personally, I think this is their strongest foot forward. I'm a "beef boy" & I think a smoked tri-tip is highly underrated. I was incredibly impressed with how moist it was even after I reheated in the oven as leftovers. Taking a rather rougher cut of beef & smoking it to incredibly moist tenderness is a thing of beauty. If you were only going to get 1 protein, it should be this. Hot Links - 9.0 / 10 Such a hearty portion & bite. Texture is very consistent & has a very pleasant, smoked, subtle pork flavor. Sausage isn't always immediately on my bbq "must-haves", but theirs makes me a believer in sausage as a bbq protein. Chicken breast - 9.0 / 10 I was pleasantly surprised to see that they offered chicken breast. I think a tell-tale sign of good chicken breast is that it isn't dry. Busters' chicken breast is no exception. It was so incredibly impressing to see just how moist their smoked chicken breast was. It was such a generous portion too. Those who fear dry chicken breast will become believers with their rendition. Garlic Bread - 9.0 / 10 I'm rather impressed with such a generous portion & how consistently toasted their pieces are. A very nice crisp & garlicky bite. Baked beans - 8.5 / 10 Arguably my favorite bbq side. I usually prefer a thicker sauce, as their version is quite thin, but that is perfectly fine. One thing I enjoy is that you can dip your meats in this thinner sauce so as to add another layer of bbq flavor. Macaroni Salad - 8.7 / 10 My favorite of the salad offerings. Provides a cool, refreshing bite. There's something cooling - like dill / mint. I can't quite put my finger on in. If I was going get a salad again, it would be this one. Potato Salad - 8.4 / 10 It's always nice to have a potato side when having bbq. I prefer a mashed potato most of the time, but their potato salad is a lighter + refreshing bite. The mustard cut through the smokiness of the bbq. Spicy BBQ Sauce - 9.0 / 10 Be careful! I love spicy. In fact, 9 out of 10 times, no restaurant ever makes me "feel the heat" whenever I ask for a really spicy dish. Their spicy bbq sauce is not for the "faint of heart". I would reckon that they use a healthy helping of habañeros in their own recipe. I kept going back for water when I should had order a refreshing, Tractor-chilled beverage. There's always next time. Huge, huge shoutout to Adrian for being so incredibly welcoming. I wish more front-of-house staff were as kind, approachable, & enthusiastic as him. He appreciated that it was first time visiting. He answered all of my questions, offered recommendations, & made sure that I was comfortable during my whole dining experience. Truly an M.V.P. of this establishment. This experience was closer to 3.5 stars. Friendly service and the interior is spacious, seems very well kept, and tables are clean. Ordered the tri-tip plate which comes with 2 sides & 2 slices of garlic bread, beans, and a BBQ sauce. Pricing is borderline okay for the amount of food you get, especially when compared to how much fast food is these days. The tri-tip was decent though a bit drier than I would prefer. Had a nice smoke flavor though beyond that it was kinda lacking in flavor department. The bread is good though I will say using both pieces for a sandwich. compounds the drynes factor. If you are sensitive to spice id also recommend getting something less spicy than their 50/50 sauce. Its surprisingly very spicy and too much of it and in my opinion overwhelms the tri-tip. The side salads are ok. Potato salad probably the better one over the macaroni. The beans were just ok. Overall, the food is decent though there is much better BBQ out there. Yesterday was my third visit to Busters so I thought it was time for a review. As soon as you open your car door you smell BBQ which always gets my appetite going. Every time I've entered I was warmly greeted by whoever was working the counter. On all 3 visits I've had the Tri Tip meal with chili beans, coleslaw and potato salad. The meat is cooked low and slow on their huge smoker out front. It's tender and juicy and tastes amazing. I learned yesterday that the meat is so much more superior that it now supplies the original location! The sides were also good and I felt the price was spot on. First time here today, came for lunch. We ordered 1/2 pound of chicken breast and the pork rib plate. Came with cole slaw, potato salad and baked beans (you can get mac salad or chili beans as other options) as well as toasted "garlic" bread. Gabe (according to the receipt) helped us at the counter, and was very nice and helpful. He checked in on us a couple of times as well, service was very good. Didn't wait too long for food, but there were only a couple of other tables occupied when we got there so that helped. Overall, the food wasn't bad. My pork ribs, baby backs I'm pretty sure though they don't specify, had a nice smoky flavor and my wife's chicken did as well. Sides were good, though the baked beans were pretty soupy. The thing that keeps our rating down was the distinct lack of seasoning pretty much across the board. If there was any rub at all on my ribs, I couldn't taste it, the mild sauce was just a sweet liquid with no real savory taste though the spicy sauce was much thicker and had more flavor, and the garlic bread had zero garlic taste, it was just a buttered hoagie roll. Did they forget the garlic part? I'd like to recommend it more, but I can't based on this visit. Will I go back? Maybe to try something else, but that's a big maybe. read more

Had to drop some things off at the rental place around the corner and passed this on my way in. It was about 4:00 in the afternoon and I'd been so busy I hadn't eaten all day and thought I would try Busters (I thought I remembered hearing it was good). From the moment I walked in, Yvonne was super kind and helpful. I was indecisive about what to order and she asked if I wanted to try a piece of tri-tip so she gave me a bite and it was amazing. I'm pretty picky about most food and especially tri-tip(my husband makes an amazing one and I've had the real thing in Santa Maria). I ordered the tri-tip sandwich on her recommendation and got the 50-50 hot and mild mix. The hot barbecue is REALLY good! It is very hot by most people's standards. I liked it though. The garlic bread was perfectly toasted and the tri-tip was incredibly tender and flavorful. Also, Yvonne was a delight and honestly am normally horrible with people's names, but I remembered hers for exactly that reason. I will definitely be back when I'm in the area. The only negative thing I can say is that the atmosphere/decor isn't really my preference as it seemed kind of like a chain restaurant like chipotle or something but I took my order to go so it didn't really matter much to me.
