Where do I begin? My husband and I were in need of a vehicle. We were on our way to the Honda…read moredealership but we stopped by John Johnson Select Used Cars. Tony Moretti greeted us in the parking lot as we were looking at a Jeep Cherokee. We decided to buy it and were informed the vehicle had an oil change and was maintenanced. When we test drove the car, I noticed only one key. I inquired about the second and Tony said that it was probably available but they wouldn't have it until the plates came in. He told us if they didn't, they would cut us a new one. Ok, no problem! Tony completed the lease agreement at their used lot and fortunately gave me a signed copy. He informed us of the Powertrain Warranty which was to be included. I'm glad he wrote it down on the lease! They did not have the ability to process the paperwork at their location so he drove us up to Johnson Dodge. At JD, they told us they couldn't get us in our price range so we increased our down payment as much as we could but it still wasn't enough to get us within budget. Strange, but it wasn't too bad, so be it. They had us sign off on the lease through a digital pad so the numbers weren't visible for us to see but the only change made from point A to point B was the increase in the down payment. When we left the lot, I noticed the maintenance message said the car needed an oil change. Maybe they forgot to reset the message? Fast forward two weeks. We received our first statement. I noticed the principal balance seemed rather high considering our down payment was a third of the cost. This prompted me to pull the paperwork from the dealership. To our surprise, they tacked on $3000 for the Powertrain Warranty!! What the...?! I immediately call them to find out the story. I spoke to Tom, who told me that the lender required us to purchase the warranty in order to approve us for the loan. He also claimed they wanted to charge an 8% interest rate, and in order to get a better rate, we had to purchase the warranty. That didn't make any sense so of course I confirm that information with the lender, which to no surprise, ended up being a total lie. If it was valid, why would they not have said something sooner? We called them out on it and faught tooth and nail to get them to fix the issue. They finally agreed to cut a check and pay down the balance but it would take a few weeks. Now I'm paying interest on the $3000! Finally, when the plates came in, we inquired about the key again. They told us there wasn't a second key and that we would have to pay $300 for it! Seriously??!! Not to mention, during the battle we kept addressing the oil change situation and they wouldn't even acknowledge it. Of course this was the least of my concerns. Since they were unwilling to help, I made a call to John Johnson himself to fill him in on our experience. Fortunately, he made it right. I went back in and they drew up a new loan, putting us back into our initial price range, and cut me the second key I was promised. At this point, I asked the girl in the service department if an oil change had ever been done to the car. She looked it up in the system and confirmed it did NOT. So I asked her if they did oil changes to the used cars. Her response was yes. So I asked if mine would be done too. She told me they have a coupon for a $20 oil change!! Seriously?!?! I'll go down the road and spend $40 for an oil change out of principle. So my advice to anyone reading this, go to the Honda dealership. PS I should mention they bribe people for reviews... hence all the "good" ratings. Don't be fooled. I was offered $50 to write a favorable review. Glad I waited.

I was so excited to have a Hyundai dealership back in Hackettstown and that it was affiliated with…read moreDenville Towne Hyundai. We've had good experiences with Towne, up until this purchase. While this most recent purchase started off horribly bad, all mistakes were corrected and our relationship has been restored. Ben made sure to treat us great after all. That's most important. Here is why my rating is lower than a 5 Star: Initially, everyone was friendly enough, but I'm not looking for friends. We expect to do business in a pleasant environment with people who give me straight, honest, accurate information the first time and I want the fairest price the first time. I am not interested in playing games when purchasing a car. When shopping at Towne Hyundai of Hackettstown BE PREPARED TO HAGGLE! Straight-forward pricing is no longer in vogue, I was told. I wasn't prepared for this. When we arrived, we were greeted by 3 different people. We were given their names but not their roles. As we later figured out, one was the receptionist, one was the Internet sales rep (I initially thought she was the GM), and another ended up being our sales rep. This was a confusing start. Every question we asked was answered with 2 opposing responses. I expected better. I am not sure if it was lack of knowledge, but every question and offer was flim flammed. Towne Hyundai of Hackettstown uses the old fashioned sales technique of 'let me check w/my manager'. While I understand this is how the dealership chooses to run their business, I found it off-putting. The questions we asked were direct and were about: *financing/rebates. We were initially told we were given the cash price and no further incentives were available. Then we were told if you finance, there is a $1000 rebate, which is great. Although, we were NOT told that the interest rate jumps to 6.69% up from ~3% APR. Information was never complete or 100% accurate. *trade-in value of our 2011 Hyundai. Initially we were offered $750. Then it went up to $1250 when we declined the initial offer. Give me your best offer first. Playing games. *early pay-off of the financing. Initially we were told there is no penalty for early pay off in the state of NJ. Then, we were told that we need to make the first 4 payments (October, November, December, January) on the loan before paying off the loan, without explaining the rationale. It was worded as though waiting until 4 payments are made was a requirement. As we later learned, this is to ensure the dealership gets reimbursed for their incentive that was extended to the customer, which I understand. However, this boils down to costing real dollars for the customer. Conflicting and incomplete information. *cost of extended warranties. Initially, we were presented 4 options for extended warranties. When we declined all extended warranties, we were asked if one stood out that we may be considering as the finance representative would then check for any available coupons to lower the initial price. Why not offer the best price from the start. More games. *body damage. The car was delivered to us with body damage and residual glue. When we returned the car within an hour, it was suggested that we damaged the car. Offensive, condescending. Very careless Not one answer was accurate and or complete the first time we asked. Give me straight and honest answers the first time I ask a question. We attempted to return the car and cancel the deal and we were told this is not an option. We expressed our disappointment with how we were treated. GM Ben asked us if we ever bought a new car before (condescending). Yes, I've only ever purchased new cars. This is our 3rd Towne Hyundai new purchase alone. We were also told "thats all part of being in the car business. We negotiate everything.". Once Ben realized we are, infact, reasonable people and that we were treated very poorly, his demeanor changed and he was willing to right the wrongs. Btw...The music is too loud and not at all conducive to conducting business. I'm not there to "club".

The worst part is, he told me I should know better than to come in on a Friday because that is when all cars are being picked up and they are too busy to discuss anything with me. He was extremely rude and frazzled. I was the only person in the waiting area at the time and told him I was not in a rush. I explained that I wasn't in the auto body business and could not have known that Friday's were a bad day to ask a question. If he was nicer, I would have gladly came back on a better day. Needless to say, I went elsewhere and they lost my business for ever. I was beyond blown away how someone in a customer service business could treat someone so poorly. If one person can't handle the front desk on a Friday, then perhaps they should higher someone else.

What we got was far from it. First visit: The car came back with oily mats that were dangerously slippery, the vacuuming was incomplete, and visible water stains and marks on the visors were left behind. It was clear the job was rushed and poorly done. When my husband called to address the issues, the staff promised to fix everything if we brought the car back. So we gave them a second chance. Second visit: My husband dropped the car off at 9 AM and was told he'd receive a call when it was ready. No one ever called. At 5 PM, he walked over only to find someone lounging on the couch who casually said the car was ready. After inspecting it, it was clear nothing had been done. The staff claimed they were only supposed to vacuum the car--which is outrageous. We left the car there all day, again, for nothing. We were told the poor results were due to a new employee still learning. We were understanding and gave them yet another chance after the manager personally called us, apologized, and assured us he would handle it himself. Third visit: I showed the manager the exact stains and issues before leaving the car again at 9 AM. At 3 PM, we were told it was ready. Once again, the car looked almost exactly the same. The stains I had pointed out were still there, the car was not properly vacuumed, and there were oil stains and fingerprints all over the console. The only thing they seemed to do was wash the exterior--which makes no sense, since it was raining that day. This has now taken three visits and over two full days of wasted time. We expected premium service for the premium price. What we got was something that a $40 drive-thru car wash could've done better. Do not be fooled by the positive reviews. Our experience shows a serious lack of professionalism, poor communication, and zero accountability. We will never return and absolutely do not recommend this business to anyone. My most recent experience was when my wife's SUV was hit in the parking lot of an elementary school. I immediately called Aberdeen Auto Collision and asked if I could bring the vehicle in for an estimate. I spoke with Larry, who immediately told me to bring the vehicle in. Alex assessed the damage and provided me with an estimate, which was more than fair. I also asked if they could restore/recondition the vehicle's headlights as they were becoming quite dull. In addition to the excellent workmanship and craftsmanship that this shop consistently provides, the owner and manager are outstanding people. Alex and Larry are two of the finest people you would ever want to meet.
