There is no one on this planet that likes being HUNG UP ON, but if you are one of those people, call Berkeley Towing. He was so impatient that he couldn't wait for me to walk down the road to find out exactly where I was, and then hung up on me saying that he "didn't want to waste his time," when I was asking questions. What an awful way to treat potential customers who are stranded, and need some help! I would give them 0 stars if I could. Andy was great. Brakes went out. Showed up with a flatbed in 15 minutes for the lowest price, and on a Saturday to boot.

The other 5-star ratings and reviews are not coincidence or hyperbole - Andy is as good as it gets. At my house in less than 20 minutes (!!!), very personable, extremely low rate of $60 (lowest quote I could get was $110 and that was the low estimate), and to top everything off he hung around to make sure I got everything sorted at the repair shop and then dropped me off back home. These ppl are legit! They actually will be there and save you in any situation!!! Long story short we got ourselves stuck in a bad spot and on a busy ramp. After one tow company came out looked at the situation and just left us there with no answer as to why he couldn't do it. I called these ppl and they came out quick and had us home in under 30mins. Best tow truck experience ever. Really. Don't call anyone else. I called Andy at 11 PM. Not only was he there exactly when he said he would be (25 mins), but he was incredibly nice and helpful. Turned out, he was able to jump start my car. I had driven my husband's car to meet him, so I unexpectedly ended up with 2 cars to somehow get home. Andy offered to and drove one of my cars to my house, helped me move the baby seat out of the car, and couldn't have been more helpful. I will never call anyone else. I highly recommend on having Berkeley Towing. Very prompt service and a friendly attitude to his customers. Literally brings light to a bad situation. Here I was driving home from having to rescue a friend and give him a ride to work. Then just about a mile from getting home my car stalls out on me in the middle of Black Friday traffic in Emeryville. I had a few guys help me move my car to the side. I was in shock that my car just died on me. I felt embarrassed and that people were just staring at me. I used seri to look up a tow truck. I went with the first in the list. Andy answered promptly and told me he will be there in 20. Upon his arrival he greeted me. He safely maneuvered my car to position it and safely fasten my car to the tow hinge. He asked me if I wanted the car taken to a shop. At my despite I was first declining the offer. He said they had good prices. I knew that my clutch had gone out and my price would be well over a grand. He insisted on me talking with the shop and see what deal we can arrange. I shrugged as the phone was passed to me. All I wanted to do is go home and deal with it later. But I stayed on the line and was given my quote. So I agreed to it because you can't beat that price. As we drove to the shop Andy and I chatted about our thanksgiving meals and Black Friday shopping. As he was shopping for new work boots at the time I called him. We get to the shop and Andy stood by as I dealt with the mechanic. He even offered me to give me a ride home after. I was already planning to walk 5 miles home because I would not have cash left over after paying Andy for his service. He stayed and continued chatting making my bad situation a better one. To my content I highly recommend Berkley Towing. Has not just only picked up my car but also referred a mechanic and also stood by to take me home after the shop. read more

Called to set up tow at 2:45p, gave all information and CC as hold. (Did not accept Amex to hold on visa, and was assured payment could be made via Amex) Received call from tow truck driver at 2:50p saying eta 25-30 min. Called tow truck driver at 3:20, no answer Called dispatch at 3:25 and was told service was cancelled due to lack of communication on my end. Asked for service to resume and given another 25-30 eta. Had my insurance call dispatch to arrange payment, insurance called me back to say dispatch would not accept payment, and called dispatch. They say my insurance would not cover, elaborating how they have the call recorded. Regardless, where is the tow truck? Called dispatch at 4pm and they again took on another job ahead of me because they were unsure about payment, eta 40 min. I told them I would call my insurance and have them call them, regardless they have my CC on file, get a tow truck here now! Mind you I have a flight to catch and did not need an hr and a half wasted waiting on their negligence. 5 min later, As I am on hold with my insurance to figure out who's the liar, knowing my insurance will reimburse me my payment, their manager calls me to reconfirm I want a tow truck, YES! Oh well, he refuses service. Go to the next company, these guys are pretty good at wasting your time, lying and making you out to be the problem. They had payment set the whole time. I was traveling thru Berkeley & my battery died. I didn't know anyone to call for a jumpstart & couldn't wait around in the hope a good samaritan would help me. I called this company because of its high ratings on this site. Maybe all the good feedback is for towing services, because I had a very negative experience using this company for a jumpstart. The dispatcher told me the charge would be a base rate + anywhere from another $40-80. I should've hung up on her then and called a more reasonable company, but she reassured me, "He'll give you a low price." Though I only needed a jumpstart he arrived driving a big huge vehicle used for towing. It took him less than 5 minutes to jumpstart my car. Then he told me it would be $120. I complained and asked for an explanation. He got very sarcastic and condescending with me and acted as if my question didn't merit an answer. The charge was at the top of the scale of what the dispatcher had told me, and the driver said it was for "labor" and distance he'd traveled. As he'd only come from Berkeley, according to the dipatcher, he couldn't have driven far. I wish I'd gotten an itemized receipt because their labor charges would have to be about $200/hour given the brief time he labored. He agreed to lower it to $110, saying, an an angry tone, "I'm not going to deal with this." Then he made another condescending remark, basically to let me know he thought I was stupid to have called them for a jumpstart. I don't think a company like this should be patronized. My receipt, BTW is from "Toro Road Runners," so this may be a contractor Berkeley Towing hires. read more
