Office communication is terrible! I have tried 3/4 times to make an appointment. Put on hold, left voicemail- nothing!!!

Front office personnel very helpful. Text messages helpful, as well. Location is terrific for me working downtown.

I was told by the Dr. that I'm lucky to be old enough that my eye sight is deteriorating and ended up with ill-fitting glasses that give me a headache and don't help me see at night. At all. Waste of $500. Two stars instead of one because the receptionist was nice. read more

So the background is that my eyes had been hurting and I had been having really painful headaches. So I went in already a little under the weather - the service from the time I spoke until the time I exited the office was warm and kind. I was even able to get in the same day thankfully. Nikki (Dr. Kokel) was amazing - her obvious passion for what she does shows as she is quite knowledgeable and very personable. Berkley is conveniently located in the Park Shops so its convenient for those that work downtown. Whether you need your yearly exam or just a new pair of glasses I would highly recommend coming here. read more

From the ladies at the checkout desk to Dr. Obie I felt welcomed and very well taken care of. It was first time coming to this office and I can say this will be my permanent place of primary care. All my questions and concerns were addressed and even a game plan was made to ensure the health of my vision. read more

I've been going to this location for several years and always enjoyed the staff who were always very friendly. I recently went for a checkup and to get new glasses, but the place has changed. The staff is not friendly or really helpful. The doctor was really good and super friendly and the center is very aesthetically nice. I purchased a pair of overpriced glasses and in two weeks they broke. I'm not hard on glasses at all. I took the glasses out of the case and when I opened them, the arm just snapped right off. When I called I was told that if they were still under warranty I would have to pay a fee of $25 and if not under warranty I would have to pay full price for repair or buy new frames. No apology, nothing. I was told they would call when the glasses were in, but after not receiving a call for 2 weeks, I called and my repaired glasses were in. I explained to the counter person that these glasses were defective and her response was a blank stare. She finally told she would report it to the office manager. I have not heard from the office manager. I will not go back to this place, although it's super convenient. I've always known the glasses were overpriced, but I paid for the convenience of a one-stop shop. I've had better service at Wal-Mart. read more

Dr.Obie is the best! Caring, and takes his time explaining to you any issue/question you may have.

Berkeley eye center has been my go to location for my eye RX and any eye issues. They also performed my Lasik back in the day. I trust them more than any other optometrist I've ever been to. Their doctors are welcoming and extremely knowledgeable. I'm always in and out fast and they have the best selection of glasses. All around the best in their field. read more

Berkeley Eye Center - Awesome free sunglasses after dilation. Thanks Berkeley! - Optometrists Near Me - Houston, Texas

My son got a contact stuck in his eye right before school. No place else was open. We are not their clients. They took us anyway, treated him, and made sure he was OK. The kind of health care treatment I wish had as a normal experience in this country. read more

I have been a client of Berkely Eye Center for almost two decades. I have used two different centers in that time based upon where I lived. Both Center's eye care services have always been nothing exemplary. They explained what was going on with my eyes and how to care for them as I aged. Just as important to me, the doctors and professional staff have been excellent. They were always respectful, kind, and courteous. read more

Berkeley Eye Center - New glasses in Jan 2023 - Optometrists Near Me - Houston, Texas

For the first time in life, I needed glasses! With the help from the VA, I was referred to this eye center. Now, the location is nostalgia because it's in the mall...I went in as a kid.....and it's not the same. But the clinic is nice and the staff is friendly. The optometrist is like a nurturing fourth grade teacher during an exam and that was relaxing since I haven't been for an exam in....well...! From exam to prescription to glasses was a great experience! read more

Dr. Obie was experienced and polite, but the staff at the front desk were not the most helpful. There was little disclosure about the cost of the procedures ahead of time and they were a bit terse. I suppose it is hard to blame them with all the loud and annoying construction going on in the mall, but it would have been nice to understand what was covered by insurance ahead of time because I felt blindsided at the end of the visit when they disclosed hundreds of $ in copays. read more

Dr. Kokel is super knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. The staff is attentive and supportive and I was able to take care of my eye exam and purchase a new set of frames in an hour. Would highly recommend. read more

I made an appointment during the lunch hour and was serviced in a very timely and efficient manner. I appreciated not having to fill out so many forms. I forget the Tech's name, but both her and Dr. Chou were very attentive and made through the exam and consultation with a breeze! read more

Everyone at Berkeley provided an excellent level of care. They are all very professional and attentive. Most importantly,Dr. Groff is patient, concerned , thorogh and extremely knowledgeable. She really listened to all of my concerns , explained everything and she has an extraordinarily kind bedside manner . I never feel rushed and always leave feeling I had the highest level of care . Highly recommend. read more

I got my last pair of glasses at Berkeley (Champion Forest location) two and a half years ago, and the service then was so great, I knew I wouldn't go anywhere else when I needed my next pair. The day came, and I visited the location at the Shops at Houston Center Downtown, and I couldn't be any happier with the visit. There was a little confusion with my insurance at first (because of my recent name change) but Karen at the front desk was very kind and efficient, and was able to find me in the system right away. Dr. Hollas was great. He took his time to look at my previous prescription and found a way to make my prescription even better or closer to what I need. The ordering of the glasses was very quick and the ladies at the register were also very kind. I will definitely go back to this location for any future needs! read more

The staff and doctor were all extremely professional and friendly. Making an appointment for myself and my husband was easy and straightforward, even during Covid times. The person handling the frames even helped me pick out a pair! Honestly such a pleasant experience, I highly recommend this office! read more

I have been a patient at Berkeley for many years and have to say Dr. Hollas is amazing. When I called to make my yearly eye exam and found that Dr. Hollas moves to the Clearlake office, I was so upset. I made an appointment anyway with Dr. Goff, and she is great! Everyone here has always been helpful, friendly and accommodating. When it came time to chose my frames and finalize everything Victoria M. was so helpful and gave me great suggestions. It was so reassuring that even though Dr Hollas was no longer there, the service and great staff still was. Thank you Dr Goff and Victoria for a great experience. read more

Had a great experience. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The exam was quick, and the optometrist explained every step of the process and how my vision might change as I age. One team member, Ciara, was particularly helpful and knowledgeable when it came time to selecting my frames and lenses. She was charming, upbeat and honest about the products. Overall, I'd use their services again. read more

Thanks to dear Kristine for this referral for an optometrist! 2 friends I emailed asking for optometrist referrals said that they went to Berkeley Eye Center and thank goodness, my insurance covered them. It works out perfectly because it's only a block from where I work and I was able to get in an appointment during my lunch time. Dr. Chuck Hollas was my optometrist and he was GREAT! I asked any question I had regarding my vision and eye and it wasn't intimidating to ask them because he was so warm and welcomed any questions. The questions ranged from taking a shower with contact lens, what's the diff between hard and soft lens, how long do i have to clean my contacts, lasik vs corrective lens, etc. (I know, seems like dumb questions but he gave pretty good advice) The whole eye exam (including contact fitting) took less than an hour. Dr. Hollas made me feel extremely comfortable and was in no hurry to rush me off. He also recommended contacts for me since I wanted to change my brand. I'll be calling him after trying out the samples he gave me so that I can get my prescriptions. He is a great optometrist with so much energy and knowledge! p.s. You have to make an appointment and be sure to let the operator know you're calling for the location in the One Allen Center! It's also NOT located under the tunnels but above ground in the One Allen Center Building. read more

Big kudos to Berkeley Eye Center! Responsive - check. Punctual - check. Nice staff - check. Helpful doctor - check. Clean - check. I call their office around 1 PM and ask if they can fit me in for the day. Yes! They set my appointment for 1:45 with the condition that I printed and completed the new patient forms from their website ahead of time. AWESOME! How smart is that? I arrive early so they see me early! How often does that happen? It might've helped that I was the first appointment after lunch. Dr. Chuck Hollas took his time with examining my eyes and answered my questions. I did not feel rushed nor did I feel stupid about asking them. Will be coming back here for my annual eye exams. read more

It is the end of the year and time for my annual eye exam, so I chose a place that was literally right around the corner from work. I love the fact that I was able to schedule an appointment online. Everything about the process was simple. The visit to Dr. Hallas was efficient and he engaged me with questions through the examination to make sure that he covered every angle. I think that I have found my new eye doctor. read more

Convenient. Professional. Fast. I like that they are located in The Shops. It's easy to get to since I work in downtown. I was able to get a appointment with Dr. Hollas during my lunch break. He was able to answer all my questions, and get me in and out in one hour. I appreciate that very much! I was a little disappointed that I put in my contact order on a Thursday, they told me that it would be ready by Monday or Tuesday of the following week and that I will receive a call that it has arrived. The next Thursday comes around and I hear no call, so I decided to give them a call to check on status. Miraculously, my contacts are in and are ready for pick up. No big deal, but I'd like it if they follow through with what they told me. read more

Fantastic service! Got a huge rebate for usually very expensive daily contacts. Didn't have much of a wait at all and they were very efficient. Great people working in the front. Victoria was an angel! So thankful for great service! read more

I just started working downtown, and just moved to Houston after living in the Bay Area for my entire life. This is the first ophthalmologist I've seen that was different from my California one that I've been seeing for 16 years so I was very hesitant to try something new. Not only is the location extremely convenient, but Dr. Hollas is very thorough and very good at explaining this process. As an engineer, I enjoy knowing what everything is used for, and how everything works. Dr. Hollas did a great job explaining different Lasik procedures with me (I was just curious if it was possible with my very high prescription) and why he was altering my prescription to give me the best vision possible with my current contacts. Terrific staff, and very nice all around. The only thing I would have to point out, is that at my old optometrist office, they would sanitize and wipe down every piece of equipment before and after my use. I didn't notice them really doing that here to such a degree as I am used to, but I'm sure they keep their equipment very sterile. read more

I was a first time patient at Berkeley Eye Center and chose here as it's very close to my work. They were very good at communicating with me up until my appointment time. The ladies at the desk were absolutely great and super friendly. This was merely my second time to see an eye doctor, so I did not know much or which questions to ask. They were great at explaining to me what each test is doing and looking for. Dr. Hollas was efficient and knowledgeable in helping me and answering any questions I had. I have definitely found my eye doctor! read more

I have been going to the Berkeley Eye Center at the Shops for the last 3 years. I see Dr. Kokel. She is absolutely PHENOMENAL! She puts you at ease during your eye exams and explains everything thing she is doing without rushing you. She is my favorite Eye Doctor for my eyes without a doubt. Her nurse that assists her I wish I knew her name she is amazing, too. She makes you feels at ease and answers all your crazy questions with patience before the Doctor sees you. She's AWESOME!! Then there is their AMAZING Floater Optician Mrs. Fletcher. She will help you pick at eye glasses that are best for your needs. She will help explain to you what your insurance covers and what are your options in purchasing your glasses. Then lastly, there are the front desk people who are super friendly and helpful to make sure you are checked in and ready for your visit. Berkley Eye Center at the Shops ROCKS!!! GREAT visit to Berkeley Eye Center yesterday. Well worth the parking challenges of Downtown and getting to the location (in The Shops)! First off, they were very welcoming when I first walked in, including the attractive receptionist/office manager. As a first time patient, there was minimal paperwork to complete to get me processed. During the preliminary and the full exam, both Dr. Hollas and his assistant discussed what they were doing, why they were doing it, and my status with each part of the exam. This made me very comfortable and informed the entire exam. Lastly, the sales associate was very helpful in picking out frames that were both functional and looked good. The entire front office staff (native Texans, by the way), were very personable, friendly, and helpful. They even offered me chocolate while I waited! All in all, a great visit and I would highly recommend! read more

I have been a patient of Berkeley Eye Center for several years and have been very pleased with Dr. Hollis. However, this message is about their front office, specifically office manager, Karen Pelton. Through her efforts they have demonstrated to me that they put customer service and customer satisfaction first. While installing new lenses in my sunglasses the factory damaged the frames. Karen and her entire team immediately went well beyond anything I expected and remedied the situation to my complete satisfaction. In an age where it's easy to order glasses online and get stuck with whatever the factory sends I'm convinced that working with the folks at this Berkeley Eye Center is the way to go. read more

I picked this location because I can walk there easily from home. I've been a patient here for a couple of years now. Dr. Hollas is who I usually see, and never rushes, is very thorough, and listens to your concerns. His staff is professional and help you with anything you need. As someone who works in healthcare, this is so nice to experience! Their glasses selection is also very modern and trendy, you will definitely find your next pair! read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Hollas for many years. Berkeley Eye Center at the shops is well worth the traffic and parking downtown. Dr. Hollas and the entire staff are friendly, courteous, and always patient with me when I ask questions about their procedures and my eyes. I've purchased several pairs of eyeglasses and even prescription sunglasses here and have always been pleased.
