Wow if I could have given it 6 stars I would.... The only sad thing is they only offer Prime Rib mid week. It was perfectly cooked med rare as I requested despite the fact I didnt arrive until 8pm. The woman taking reservations and providing hostess service was very pleasant welcoming and kind The Decor is in keeping with a high end steak house with lots of wood and leather and scrupulously clean.. The lighting was perfect.... The only thing I would say is while the music wasnt too loud I would prefer a bit more jazz/blues rather than modern hits but that might be my age showing! The service was impecable... my server was a very bright pleasant local artisan/ craftsman with a young family who hit it out of the park in terms of service... As soon as you were seated you are brought some super fresh bread with a homemade tapinade, some herbed butter... There were some really interesting options such as twice baked potatoes which were delicious and both the glazed carrots and asparagus were cooked perfectly... the prime Rib was so tender I could have easily done without a steak knife. I loved the fact that the prices were very reasonable and included the sides.so many places charge you these days one price for the meat then extra for your sides as a means of squeezing more $ out of you... not here! Even the wine although a modest selection was very carefully selected and reasonable.... I cant wait to go back and when I do Ill remember to snap some pics of not only the great food but the wonderful people. Unfortunately I have been here several times due to an annual family get-together. Each year I try something different as everything I have had in the past sucks. August long weekend I order the rack of lamb ($40 + tax/tip). I was served thinly sliced pieces that lead me to believe a rack wasn't cooked then sliced but rather the lamb was delivered to the restaurant already pre-sliced. It was presented with some type of sauce and accompanied by vegetables that tasted like they came out of a bag. I have now had about 8 different items from their menu, more then enough to be able to accurately ascertain the quality of this place is consistently substandard. Do yourself a favour and find your flavour elsewhere. read more

I went to Berc's for dinner on March 3rd for my Mom's birthday. I'd never been there before, but my parents had. As someone who just moved from Alberta, I was a little leery​ of a steakhouse in Ontario because they probably didn't serve Alberta beef, which tastes beyond awesome! Service at Berc's was above average. Everyone was very nice, polite and friendly. We got a decent table, but one without a heck of a lot of room to move the chairs due to how close it was to the next table. I had a draft beer and was disappointed that they didn't have any local craft beers on tap, so I ended up having a Mill Street beer. I ordered a filet mignon (medium rare) with a caesar​ salad and garlic mashed potatoes. The salad had a heck of a lot of dressing on it, but it still tasted okay. The steak was definitely medium rare, but had more fatty parts than I've normally seen in a filet mignon. But, the garlic mashed potatoes were downright disgusting. I'm not 100% sure they were made from scratch, but they were completely dry and crumbly. Plus, they didn't have a very decent garlic taste. I was so disappointed. (I had been looking forward to garlic mashed potatoes all day!) They served my Mom a chocolate cake for her birthday and they also gave me a slice (supposedly because of my dry potatoes). Since the waitress joked about it, I didn't admit that the cake too was actually dry. While their chains, I would much prefer to go to The Keg or Chop for a steak dinner. Had reservations for 6:45 we were a few minutes early, by 8:20 our food still hadn't arrived at the table so we got up to pay for our drinks and appetizers and leave, our food was about to come out apparently (it was 8:30 at this point they close at 9) they were dead from 7:30 onwards people who ordered 5 minutes before us were already paying and leaving. We took our food to go since it was ready they only gave us a 20% discount and then a $50 gift certificate. Having worked in restaurants in the past who classified themselves as fine dining any place I worked if that had of happened it would have been a fully comped meal. Came here by myself and really enjoyed it. Easily one of the best dinners I have ever had in Peterborough. The ambience tries to capture that old school steakhouse vibe on a small town budget, and I think that for the most part, thy succeed. Service is efficient and experienced. I like it when the waitress can recite things from the menu by heart, and knows the answer to all your questions without having to run to the kitchen to ask. Kudos for having separate gluten free menus! I had the 16 ounce bone in ribeye, and it was fabulous! A solid inch thick, perfectly cooked, as tender and tasty as it should be. Mine came with some asparagus, grilled carrots and squash, and sautéed mushrooms. The wine list is small but offers entry level choices at reasonable prices. There is room for improvement there. Let me brutally honest. If you want better food and service at this price level go to Roland's down the road. If you want serious steak go to the Keg or go to Bridgenorth and have the best ribeye ever at Chemong Lodge. I travel around North America for work and see my far share of steakhouses. Berc's quality does not reach the set expectations when you are there. One dinner was sent back due to being cold and the ribeye I ordered kinda was a thin sirloin you get at the grocery store. My friends and I picked this place because it was a steak house - a plain and simple reason in our minds since we were looking for a good steak. Honestly, we knew nothing about this place beforehand. It wasn't even rated on Yelp (which personally surprised me, of course). Wow, were we ever pleasantly surprised with our experience here this evening! Two of us ordered the rib-eye steak. This came with vegetables, a hearty potato and a side salad. It was a fantastic meal - perhaps one of the best rib-eye steaks I'd ever had. Not only was all our food quite good, but so too was the server we had. She was extremely accommodating with one in our party - taking extreme care of her allergy sensitivities. Took the family to Berc's steak house to celebrate a birthday in October. Both my wife and I were very disappointed in the cuts of meat and how they were cooked. We ordered ribeyes that looked more like strip loins, thin, little marbling or the sweet spot you like to see on a ribeye. Went for dinner with friends. Service was excellent and the dining room had a nice ambiance without a lot of the noise you get at the keg or other chain restaurants. Menu was decent however portion size did not quite live up to the cost. My 10oz ribeye was tasty but the $40 price tag was A bit steep for a cut of that size. The garlic mash potatoes were pretty dry so I'd recommend one of the other options (the twice baked looked pretty good). We all had deserts which we very good. I can recommend the apple crumble. Went for dinner with my family while away for the weekend and was impressed with their Covid 19 precautions. They took our temperature at the door, made sure to inform us that masks must be worn if not at our table and their staff were all wearing masks. As Peterborough does not begin mandatory mask wearing until August 1st, I really appreciated the level of care they demonstrated. Our food was amazing! This evening I took my employees and family there for a nice dinner and the food was amazing but the service was horrendous, waiting 30 mins to see a waiter then waiting again for anything that you asked for. My wife and I have been there several times over the last couple years. The food is still good but the service and staff being short handed has been getting worse every time. Tonight when we watch our server struggle to serves our party and another party while a number of other servers set empty tables rather than giving a helping hand. Went there for my birthday lunch as it was a semi classy place and they had food for the wife. Very disappointed we asked for the fish to be pan fried or breaded as she does not like battered, server said that she didn't they could as the fish was prepared in the morning but she would check. When she came back she said it had already been battered, I told her that was impossible as the batter would have dripped off, it had to be frozen and she confirmed. I ordered a steak and fries with a gravy on the side to dip the fries in. Steak was passable, but the fries were unedible and the gravy had a skin on it, they did comp half of my meal but still totalled $50 with tip. Stopped in on way through to Toronto, and everyone in our family loved it. The decor is warm and inviting and I am very impressed, nice cute booths for private dining, but also very family friendly. They have an events room that can seat a large group (20~30). Everything is cooked perfectly and really tasty. The ribeye was seasoned well and prepared a perfect medium rare, juicy and savory, my son loves it! You have to try their chicken alfredo, the sauce is so special than other places, so delicious! I was in town for an archery competition and decided to meet up with an old friend and have dinner. Both of us were in the mood for a good steak and we decided we would support the independent place over its rival chain restaurant. Its a quaint and quiet place, a little dated i suppose but still the classic feel that my mind equates with a steak house. I like all the little divisions and rooms, it keeps it fairly quiet compared to other places i have been. The waitress was at our table very quickly and explained the specials and what was new, brought our drinks and took our order. That left us some quiet time to talk until our meal came. I had the rib eye steak with a salad and garlic mashed. It was done to perfection. A nice medium, the waitress brought the pepper mill over for some fresh cracked pepper, the veggies were good, the potatoes were good, but the Greek salad is what stood out in my mind. My companion had the Filet Minion and she said it was cooked to a perfect medium well with the baked potato, again the veggies included asparagus and a mandarin salad. I was quite impressed. Its an upscale place so i felt a bit under dressed for the place but all in all it was good. The cocktails were cold, the food was hot, the place was nice. All the things i like. This place is a hidden Peterborough gem. The food is properly done. Although Peterborough has many good mid-level restaurants, Berc's one of the only "fine dining" experiences you can have in Peterborough that will make you feel like it really deserves every penny of what you've paid for it.
