I am in Peterborough this week for work and decided to stop in to treat myself to a fancy meal after a jam packed day. The restaurant is very cozy and my server was very welcoming. Dining alone while away on a business trip isn't my favorite thing to do but her kindness made it feel less awkward. I ordered the filet and choose a twice baked potato and the veggies as my sides. The twice baked potato was cooked perfectly and was well seasoned. The veggies consisted of a mix of green beans, bok choy, & beets. Again, all cooked perfectly. Now on to the star of the meal. The filet. It was served with a beef reduction sauce and was heavenly. The steak was cooked perfectly to my taste (medium well, I know, I know) and was as easy to cut as room temperature butter. Each piece just melted in my mouth. Just thinking about it now makes my mouth water again so if you're in the market for an excellent meal, just GO!

That being said, The Keg is reliable and consistent. It is good, the steaks are good, they are just not very good. The meat they use seems to be basically what you can find at any grocery store. I can find much better cuts of meat at good grocery stores or butchers and cook it much better at home. I am a bit surprised they don't use better quality meat for their steaks. But I guess it is very popular and the food is still pretty good, so why spend extra money on quality when what you are selling sells pretty good. I know this sounds like a rant on this place not being that great but that is only because I feel a steakhouse should have really good quality meat. I still enjoy eating here and at least I know what I am going to get, but I will never be "wowed" here. Some times you go to a restaurant and it just knocks you off your feet and it is a real experience. That will never happen at this restaurant, or any other Keg. I think it will always be good but quite frankly I can cook a much better steak myself, at home. So why should anybody pay the prices they charge to eat here? Well, I guess if you are away from home, and don't want to take any chances on a decent meal, this is a good choice, and it was this time as well. Also, please note that this "pre charge" or whatever it is is NOT a cover charge to see the bands that play there. The bands do not see any of that money. This is is a charge by the patio for the privilege of eating/drinking there. I encourage anyone else who may feel the same way about this charge to let the manager know. I looked at the reviews on Yelp and found Wee Wok looked like a good place to try. I stopped in at Wee Wok and placed the order and within 20 minutes I was back on the road. Probably an hour and a half later I was home. Food was all still hot enough - they double bagged everything for me to retain some heat for the drive. To start on the food, I have to say it was all very good. I rarely want to give a 5/5 because there is always the possibility of finding better and now what do you do? Had: Spring Rolls, Egg Rolls, Szechuan Beef, Wonton Soup, Mushroom Fried Rice, Almond Chicken Soo Gui (gravy on the side) and Shanghai Noodles. (Note) My wife was Covid+ at the time so her sence of taste and smell was off. But she loved the comfort of the Chinese Food. And gave it 2 thumbs up.
