This is on top of my list of favourite spots to dine at in the downtown core of Port Hope. I have gone for both brunch and dinner here. Service has been excellent on the first visit. My friend ordered a seafood linguini and I ordered a stuffed Yorkshire - (a stuffed Yorkshire with slices of roast beef smothered with gravy, with mashed potatoes and vegetables on the side). It was excellent. Portions are enormous - everything can honestly be shared. The second visit was during dinner. After a few minutes of debating what to order, I decided to go for the supreme chicken Marsala. The chicken breast was stuffed with spinach, goat cheese and sun dried tomatoes - with a creamy Marsala mushroom wine sauce smothered all over. I enjoyed the dish, but was a little thrown off with the tomatoes, and found the mashed potatoes to be too salty this time. I was the only customer dining in that night, and the bartender was pleasant, although she was talking on the phone while working. I understand it wasn't busy, and it could be with management, but regardless, it is unprofessional to make calls while customers are present. The third and fourth visit - service and food were excellent. This is definitely a great spot to go to with a big group of friends (or by yourself). The lobster lover dish is amazing, especially paired with calamari for appetizers. Tuesdays an excellent day to visit Nookie's - their 8oz steak is their special for the day. It does not disappoint!

No reservations, and it was busy, but we were given a table right away. Wine came right away while we checked out the menu and we're given recommendations by the lovely women sitting at the next table, who apparently were there once a week. We started with the grilled calamari and garlic bread with cheese (any excuse for melted cheese). I've never had calamari like it. First of all it was the most incredibly tender calamari I've ever had. Melted in your mouth. Dish had a bit of spice with peas, corn, grilled red onion, and pancetta. Excellent. I'd go back just for that. Bread took awhile to get to us and it was forgettable. Way to garlic buttery, which means it was wet and the cheese wasn't browned enough. I'd pass next time. Split the warm mushroom salad. Loved it. A ton of fried mushrooms on spinach with a warm dressing. Not sure what those croutons were but I'd also pass on them. Then we both had a chicken pizza with pesto and roasted peppers. It was perfect. The right charring with large grilled pieces of chicken breast. Loved it. We were stuffed by the time we had 2 pieces, packed up the rest for home. No room for dessert but the selection was great. Especially the selection of gelato. Next time.

We are traveling through this city and came through a bit late, so we stopped at this Pub! It was…read moreso cute, it had a really immersive interior. I really felt like I was stepping into a pub, like a classic rugby players come here after games pub. They were setting up karaoke but we didn't partake. It was a bit hot (not miserable) so we ate out on their patio. The art was really pretty. We weren't sure what to order so when our server came around we asked them what they suggested. They told us the fish and chips were really good and so were the wings so my mom and I ordered that while my brother got Wings and sweet potato fries. The fish and chips were delicious, the fish was so crispy. My mom really liked the coleslaw and we both loved the chips (my mom ate them with ketchup and I dosed mine with vinegar). My brother really enjoyed his wings but his sweet potato fries were absolutely amazing. The servers were all really nice. I don't remember our server telling us their name but they had a pineapple tattoo on their hand and they were really attentive and friendly even though we were outside! We all really enjoyed this place! Would definitely come again if we weren't just traveling through.

I made it my mission to stop here on the way back from a road trip out east. I was drawn in by a…read morescrumptious looking menu and the rave reviews posted on Yelp. We made a reservation for 4 people at 5pm on a Friday night just to be safe. 5pm is a little early for dinner but the restaurant was still about a quarter full when we arrived. The inside of the restaurant is what I would describe as a comfortable modern cafe. There was a lot of artwork on the walls that featured local artists and that you could purchase. We were all pretty hungry from our travels so we started the meal off with the Chicken and Waffles. There are only 3 pieces for this appetizer so one of our couples split a piece which turned out okay. It was a tasty bite sized morsel. My main was an alfredo with only the good stuff - chicken, mushrooms, and onions in a creamy sauce on top of perfectly cooked fettuccine. It looked like a deceptively small portion but I actually needed help finishing it. I stole bites off the plates of some of the other dishes in my party. The fries from the burger special were a real winner. They were thick cut, some with the skins still on them, and crispy at the ends. My definition of an addictive fry! I was pretty liberal when sampling the pasta special which was a sous vide lamb on top of a homemade gnocchi in a ragu. The lamb was really mouth watering. It had a subtle taste of lamb but it was really meaty like a steak. The gnocchi had varying levels of crispiness and had a great contrast in texture. Finally I was able to sneak a piece of the lamb shank which was also to die for. It was fall off the bone and so incredibly tender. The service was really wonderful that night too. Our server checked on us multiple times through the meal and made sure we always had everything we needed. On our way out it felt like we were thanked by the entire kitchen and bar staff as we walked by. A lovely dining experience to check out if you're ever in Bowmanville!

I've had their fish and chips in the past, which were meh compared to what I've experienced elsewhere, but that is where I will finish complaining and start complimenting for example the tacos here. They are amazing, as is the poutine, the onion rings, and the Smash burger--I got the Angry Sterling, which is a flavour explosion with delicious toppings. And the drink, the Toronto cocktail, was amazing--a strong enough flavour of whisky with just enough of the liqueurs to make it not sting going down. Oh, and I haven't spoken about the live music yet. There was a guy playing guitar who was taking requests, and--and I'm saying this as a person who isn't too big a fan of acoustic guitar music--was pretty good. His passion alone made me start to bop my head and tap my foot to the music. Oh, and I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the nice trails, beach, and a historic house in a neighbourhood that reminds me of the bridal path.
