First of all it was the most incredibly tender calamari I've ever had. Melted in your mouth. Dish had a bit of spice with peas, corn, grilled red onion, and pancetta. Excellent. I'd go back just for that. Bread took awhile to get to us and it was forgettable. Way to garlic buttery, which means it was wet and the cheese wasn't browned enough. I'd pass next time. Split the warm mushroom salad. Loved it. A ton of fried mushrooms on spinach with a warm dressing. Not sure what those croutons were but I'd also pass on them. Then we both had a chicken pizza with pesto and roasted peppers. It was perfect. The right charring with large grilled pieces of chicken breast. Loved it. We were stuffed by the time we had 2 pieces, packed up the rest for home. No room for dessert but the selection was great. Especially the selection of gelato. Next time.

It tastes like real tomatoes not spaghetti sauce. And has texture. Seems they are using real food ingredients rather than super processed alternatives that may be cheaper. The funny thing is, this pizza is very inexpensive. I would definitely return to Jim's next time I'm in Port Hope. I look forward to trying more of the items on their menu. A Wonderful Surprise at A Tavola in Whitby!…read more I hadn't been back to A Tavola in almost 10 years--ever since becoming vegan--because I assumed there wouldn't be much on the menu for me. Last night, my friends and I decided to go anyway, knowing the quality was always great... and I'm so glad we did! To my surprise and delight, Chef Vito let us know that all of their pastas are vegan and he could easily modify the sauces to suit my diet. The food was absolutely delicious--it tasted just like the meals I had in Italy. The quality, attention to detail, and service were even better than I remembered. I started with the fennel and orange salad, followed by a beautifully adapted pasta dish, and every bite was perfection. We left so happy that we chose to support a locally owned restaurant instead of a corporate chain.
