Everything from the dishes and menu design to the decor, the food and service was top notch. Fish tacos: well seasoned and a very good starter. Mussels (the special) were tasty and filling. The duck: cooked perfectly with great sides... potato croquette, asparagus and a rhubarb sauce were all super. The steak frites were delicious. Saved a little space for apple pie for dessert... good thinking. Coffee was perfect. Big recommendation for this restaurant. read more

I don't know why they are at 4 stars. My wife and i shared the fish tacos and scotch egg. Never had such delicious fish tacos. And I don't even see scotch eggs on any menu. Even the mac n cheese was very tasty. Not your usual pub fare. Most delightful brunch for sure ! And good service too read more

A perfect half-way spot between Prince Edward County and Toronto. I don't remember what we ordered for appetizers or mains, but I remember they were delicious. And I remember the waiter happily sent us on our way with a bread pudding to go, which we downed on the road. Friendly vibe, nice decor with a cool open kitchen and good service. read more

The Social Bar and Table was a really quaint and cozy restaurant with a large bar. The server informed us when we walked in that they only had two tables available, a table in the dining area or the bar. I selected the bar because then we could watch them prepare drinks and food! The Classic Burger comprised of a Wellington county prime rib, organic greens, tomato, and red onion and served with fries on the side. This was a good looking burger and tasted good too! I especially loved the fries with the dip on the side. It was so delicious! They have a patio too. It was a really nice homey restaurant to enjoy a casual meal at. read more

This was our first meal in Port Hope and all I can say is Wow! We stopped by for brunch. My husband had the Mushroom Benny and I had the PBLT. Both meals were delicious. It was clear that our meals were made from scratch. We loved the welcoming atmosphere. Jesse and Erin behind the bar were very helpful and friendly. Quaint and cozy little gastro pub in downtown Port Hope that, even though is much smaller than the pictures lead you to believe, keeps it simple & well done with its ambience & food. The real star is the basil mayo though. Seriously. Take a picture of the recipe they have on the wall for it & make a tub of it, because that's how much you're going to want to dip your fries into! read more

Disappointing!!!! We recognize that food establishments have suffered during this pandemic and that is shy we wanted to continue to support the Social, but the overall experience was deplorable!!!!! In an empty restaurant 1 hour wait after we ordered dir 3 steaks and one poutine! Steaks were sliced in small pieces and it was clear that the slice was sliced in half and served as 2 different steaks. The duck butter and bread appetizer was serves with literally the crusts if bread. When asked if we could have a grilled cheese for our son we were told verbatim " the butter is too hard" seriously??? If the aim was customer dis-satisfaction then mission accomplished. Very agitated staff who clearly don't want ti be there and are doing everything to convey that negativity in to their customers. Sadly we never be returning! read more

What a great and unique little spot! Stopped in for a late lunch on Sunday afternoon. It was quite busy, with a great lively vibe, and some live music. The staff were super. Helpful and friendly. We really appreciated the unique twist the Social takes with it's food, and even their cocktails. I had a couple great beers, including a Muskoka cucumber style. My girlfriend had their take on the Moscow Mule. She loved it. We split the honey crisp salad. Delicious. All the flavours complimented each other perfectly. We also split the beef brisket sandwich and the fried chicken sandwich. Both very rich and delicious. With a massive portion of crispy golden fries. Couldn't have been happier. I had the Social Mac + Cheese (overpriced at $17). It was BLAND, the house made cheese sauce was watery and the bacon was these little hard brown pieces that tasted like nothing. No seasoning whatsoever. And forget dessert at lunch. Our very friendly waitress told us that they just make it at suppertime. read more

We used to love this place, but not any more. The manager is an unpleasant fellow. He pretends to be friendly but anyone can tell he doesn't like his job. In such a small venue, his attitude sets the tone. We had takeout dinner from there last evening. The steak was good. The fish (as in fish & chips) was terrible - tough & dried out. The fish tacos were not up to their usual standards - & we've had them for takeout several times. The manager was unpleasant both on the phone & at pickup. We won't be back. Too bad. read more

I don't live in Port Hope and I have visited twice now for work. Both times I have dropped by The Social for a burger and fries. The fries are amazing and the burger is great too. I should really try other restaurants around here but I can't seem to pull myself away from this place. read more

A very well edited menu of deliciousness awaits you at Social. All of the plates at our table were virtually licked clean. First up was poutine, duck and gravy-enhanced hand-cut fries that inspired a chorus of "nom-noms" from the table. Entrees included a braised lamb shank that was so divine that our dinner companion did not speak for fear of being distracted from her utter delight with her dinner. Two diners had the Reuben-Cuban sandwich combo, which they proclaimed as more Reubenesque than Cubano but with mouth-watering corned beef. The grilled cheese du jour was a blend of an unctuous smoked cheddar and perfectly-wilted scallions on gorgeous, buttered and grilled egg-bread. The fries, seasoned with course sea salt and served with malt vinegar (natch!), were nothing short of epic (catsup and mayo also are available). Dessert was the especial de la maison: Battered chocolate chip cookie balls with Creme Anglaise (garnished with a beautiful orange gooseberry). The table was positively giddy over the dessert, and the chorus together intoned that their diets would resume tomorrow. read more

We went for lunch yesterday. Our server, Robin, was friendly and helpful with suggestions on both food and beer. We ordered a variety of foods, and it was so delicious, we got take out as well. The atmosphere is relaxed. You are able to view some of the delectable dishes be prepared behind the bar. The craft beer was cold and delicious. This was my first and absolute last time going to this place. The music was absolute trash, decor was outdated, while the staff was sketchy, rude as HELLL yo and dismissive/useless....(other than bartenders). The place was mostly empty (despite dollar beer night being 'most popular' ) with lots of awkward open space and horrid live performances and laughable covers to old ass, weak songs. Better off going to the junction 100% garantee. Staff is senior with bad power trips. You won't catch this girl there and I go out often! Yikes! read more

However, the waiter asked the chef if he could fix something up and to our delight our kids had the best, nutritious chicken & fries!!! Small thing to some, huge favour to all of us. You feel as if you've been transported to Montreal. Beautifully cooked and prepared meals, complimented by local produce including local wine. The Social is a great spot for lunch, brunch, dinner or on occasion watching a popular sporting event on the big screen. No sound on the tv thankfully :) Cool tunes playing. Nice little spot in Port Hope. Cozy and intimate inside. We went for lunch and although the food wasn't outstanding, portions were good and the meal was satisfying. The winter salad could have used a bit more excitement as there were many greens and the country stew was nice, but probably a few less potatoes and a bit more beef would have helped.
