Let me save you $30 which is what it cost to barely feed one person. The fish and chips was the biggest let down. Fries tasted Iike they were made a week ago and just reheated for my order. The "fish" was 70% oily breading and 30% fish. Had little to no flavour and wasn't even bigger than a filet o fish patty. The shrimps were okay, again no seasoning or flavour just oily batter. Burger was the best part of the meal and that's not saying much. Bun, lettuce and tomato tasted crisp and fresh the burger patty was no better than a Harvey's burger. Definitely not home made. He ordered the fish & chips but I forgot what type of fish (haddock, cod, or other). It looked really good, with a decent size piece of fish, chunky fries, and coleslaw. Wanting something different, I ordered the gyros dinner, served with fries, Greek salad, and tzatziki. The salad was good and the fries were nice and crispy but I was a little disappointed with the gyros. Instead of the freshly carved cones of meat off a rotisserie, it was pre sliced pieces of meat, kinda like what you might buy in a supermarket. Where can you get a two piece halibut fish and chips with a lovey salad for under $15 Canadian? Try Capt George's! Not much in the way of scenery.. old pictures of tropical fish and a wooden ship model (actually nice) small tables and a to go counter but my halibut was fresh and fried perfectly- the salad was fresh and very tasty. Came here on the way back from the sandcastle festival nearby. After beaching all day, was in the mood for some seafood. Not really sure why the rating is so high at this place. The servers did their best to be friendly, though did have to be asked multiple times for certain things - they were busy this day however, so I will give them a pass on that. The food though was mediocre at best. The combos were much pricier than expected given the little amount of food you actually get. Worse yet, underneath all of the fried batter (that fell off almost instantly after putting a fork into it), was very little fish, shrimp, and scallop. The dish we ordered came with the tiniest of cups of tarter sauce, that honestly was already gone after a few dips - not really sure why they were being so stingy with sauce. What a great gem! A few friends and I popped in for a quick lunch on the way to Prince Edward County. We ordered everything family style, since we all wanted a bit of everything. We had the family cod dinner and the shrimp meal between three of us. We had a really hard time finishing it, because it was so much food. The shrimp, in particular, was very good. They were also very generous with the sauces and happy to give us extra tartar sauce and seafood sauce. As with the other reviews, the service is really what made this place shine. Ok. My son tells me to go this place. Drive from Montreal and it's slow. Takes 6 hours. Pull up at restaurant at 6:30. Google maps, close at 8 on Monday (but aware that it's a holiday). Get in there "we close at 7. So you can't get table service only takeout." I'm sorry, but that's lazy bullshit. The fact that your cutoff is that early is crazy. Picked up because of covid, but was not provided with any tartar sauce, ketchup, vinegar or any kind of condiments or cutlery. If you're ever in the mood for fish I highly recommend this location. I walked in the door and I was greeted by a host, to whom was smiling and friendly. Qualities is very rarely seen in a host( I'm from Toronto). It was set yourself, I did and he walked over with a very big smile and I felt welcome like I was at his home. I order my drink then after he brought it and I asked some question about the menu I order the 2 pics fish. Food: served hot and nice. Average size for fish. Price not that bad. With my meal I obtained 2 fish, fries, and Cold slaw. They don't have tape soft drinks you get a can. (I would suggest they get one but I like more the a can to drink). I could not find anything wrong with my serves. If you have to find something the host/server never told me his name I had to ask for it. But really I did not mind. My mom and I decided to treat ourselves and heard this place was the best fish n chips in town. Their special was one piece of fish and fries for only $8.99. What? That's crazy cheap! We called in our order and popped in shortly thereafter to pick up our grub. I must say, the haddock was delish! The batter was crisp and not oily and there was a good crust to fish ratio. And the portion size was very generous. The fries seemed hand-cut and the flavour was there, but I found them a bit undercooked for my liking. I will totally return when in Cobourg again. We went there for Good Friday dinner and have never been treated the way Sheldon treated us before. After waiting over an hour we asked our server if our food was ready and she said there was 5 orders ahead of us still. Half an hour later she came by and said we were still 3rd in line. We had people that came in after us and had been served already. Sheldon came over and said its one day a year so deal with it. When we questioned it further we were told not to make a scene ( asking questions is making a scene), we were not rude we just wanted to know why we were waiting so long and if our food was coming.
