We are traveling through this city and came through a bit late, so we stopped at this Pub! It was…read moreso cute, it had a really immersive interior. I really felt like I was stepping into a pub, like a classic rugby players come here after games pub. They were setting up karaoke but we didn't partake. It was a bit hot (not miserable) so we ate out on their patio. The art was really pretty. We weren't sure what to order so when our server came around we asked them what they suggested. They told us the fish and chips were really good and so were the wings so my mom and I ordered that while my brother got Wings and sweet potato fries. The fish and chips were delicious, the fish was so crispy. My mom really liked the coleslaw and we both loved the chips (my mom ate them with ketchup and I dosed mine with vinegar). My brother really enjoyed his wings but his sweet potato fries were absolutely amazing. The servers were all really nice. I don't remember our server telling us their name but they had a pineapple tattoo on their hand and they were really attentive and friendly even though we were outside! We all really enjoyed this place! Would definitely come again if we weren't just traveling through.

Arthur's Pub - Signature poutine

Sometimes the best meals are the ones you weren't even planning on having…read more A little hotel booking chaos led my coworker and me to the Best Western in Cobourg. We're visiting for work and she had to switch hotels. I was venting about the situation at work earlier today, and another coworker assured us that the attached pub was one of the best parts of staying there. She absolutely RAVED about the food and insisted we couldn't go wrong. Well, ma'am, you were RIGHT. After a long day, we were tired, hungry, and just looking for a decent sit-down meal. We walked into this charming pub, were warmly greeted, and figured we'd order a few things to share. So, here's the thing. It's pretty rare to order three completely different dishes and have literally every single one knock it out of the park. Right?! But somehow, that's exactly what happened. Here's what we ordered: Arthur's Signature Poutine: Visiting from outside of Canada, neither of us had tried poutine before, so naturally, we had to order it. Fries, cheese curds, loads of gravy, bacon, AND battered cheese curds on top?! I mean, potatoes, cheese, and gravy were already a winning combination, but this was on another level. Slow clap for this introduction to poutine! This was just so, so good. Triple Mix Wings: We happened to visit on a Tuesday, when they were running a wing special for around $11-ish a pound. We went with the Triple Mix (medium, honey garlic, and Cajun), and OH. MY. G. Chef's kiss. I'm usually one to appreciate a good dipping sauce, but these needed absolutely nothing. Not even the ranch or blue cheese. The sauce was THAT good. I definitely licked my fingers. Blackened Cilantro Lime Chicken Salad: Because somewhere between ordering poutine and wings, we decided we should probably incorporate something green into our lives. And would you believe this salad slapped just as hard as everything else?! Like, perfectly seasoned blackened chicken, corn, black beans, avocado, tortilla strips, and a chipotle ranch dressing that just hugged everything. I really appreciated the layers of flavor they managed to pack into a salad, and it was the perfect fresh contrast to our other dishes. A few things worth noting: We shared everything and STILL walked away with nearly half of it to enjoy later. The portions were generous, the prices felt incredibly reasonable, and the service was friendly and welcoming. I didn't catch our server's name, but she recommended both the signature poutine and the salad to us! If you're reading this, THANK YOUUU! Also, bonus points for the atmosphere! Such a character-filled space with a fun, almost old-world library feel. And if you're staying at the Best Western, being able to walk right back to your room after a meal like that is a pretty fantastic perk. So, yeah. What started as an unexpected hotel detour turned into one of those meals you just gotta tell people about. :) Like, no regrets fr! Anywho, if you're in the area and craving some seriously good pub food, add this place to your list. We'll for sure be back!

Shepards pie could do with being more wet. The fish and chips were really good! Best tasted since being in Canada. Beef and mushroom pic Ed good without the added pastry layer at the bottom. We were looking forward to the sticky toffee pudding but it tasted strong in nutmeg - at least that's what I think it was. Bread and butter pudding - different to what we're used to too. Service was good.

I've had their fish and chips in the past, which were meh compared to what I've experienced elsewhere, but that is where I will finish complaining and start complimenting for example the tacos here. They are amazing, as is the poutine, the onion rings, and the Smash burger--I got the Angry Sterling, which is a flavour explosion with delicious toppings. And the drink, the Toronto cocktail, was amazing--a strong enough flavour of whisky with just enough of the liqueurs to make it not sting going down. Oh, and I haven't spoken about the live music yet. There was a guy playing guitar who was taking requests, and--and I'm saying this as a person who isn't too big a fan of acoustic guitar music--was pretty good. His passion alone made me start to bop my head and tap my foot to the music. Oh, and I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the nice trails, beach, and a historic house in a neighbourhood that reminds me of the bridal path. Up a flight of stairs that can be found on Mill Street in intervals between Pharma Save and Ed Whites (appliances) on the side across from where the Pharma Save is...

If you haven't been out yet, it is a bit weird at first... but it's good that it's weird. It means the business, like McGillicagey's, are doing all the right things to keep the community safe. Three cheers for sanitizers and masks! We visited the Petroglyphs and a small beach nearby, and on our way home we were pulled in by the quaintness of this lil' town. We put our name down for a table and wandered around the bridge/boardwalk area. They phoned us within 20 minutes and we returned to out big patio table out back. We were at least 2.5 metres from the nearest table. My bloody caesar and my husband's fish and chips were delicious! My pasta was not so great, but honestly, it's my fault for ordering pasta at a pub. It'd been a minute since I dined out so I didn't think it through. Bonus points for a wonderful kids menu, something for every type of picky wee one.

Mediocre at best with an expensive price tag. Will stick to pizza if we ever come back.
