I had the prime rib. Way over done and not much of it. The Yorkshire pudding was as hard as a bullet. The baked beans were dryer than a popcorn fart The gravy was the bright spot. Homemade and fantastic. The fries are also quite good. Service was decent. Booth was made for little people not full grown adults. Wasn't very busy when we arrived around 5:15. Mediocre at best with an expensive price tag. Will stick to pizza if we ever come back. read more

Love little patio, in the back. We both had the banquet burger, which was delicious. My husband said his poutine was the best he has had in a long time and I had the kettle chips, crispy yet soft inside. Definitely recommend this clean, hospitable pub! read more

My husband myself and friends have been to this quaint little pub on 3 separate occasions for lunch/dinner. The food is very tasty and the service is excellent. Yesterday September 10/23 we were there and both my husband and I had the special, prime rib on focaccia with blue cheese and greens. Even if you are not a fan of blue cheese, the combination of flavours was orgasmic, absolutely delicious! The meat was fresh and warm from the oven, juicy, flavourful and plentiful. After roughly 100 days of staying home in Toronto, and two weeks of quarantining in Northumberland County, my little family decided to finally visit a restaurant patio for dinner. If you haven't been out yet, it is a bit weird at first... but it's good that it's weird. It means the business, like McGillicagey's, are doing all the right things to keep the community safe. Three cheers for sanitizers and masks! We visited the Petroglyphs and a small beach nearby, and on our way home we were pulled in by the quaintness of this lil' town. We put our name down for a table and wandered around the bridge/boardwalk area. They phoned us within 20 minutes and we returned to out big patio table out back. We were at least 2.5 metres from the nearest table. My bloody caesar and my husband's fish and chips were delicious! My pasta was not so great, but honestly, it's my fault for ordering pasta at a pub. It'd been a minute since I dined out so I didn't think it through. Bonus points for a wonderful kids menu, something for every type of picky wee one. read more

Great live music, interesting menu and lovely location. I always have a good time here! Service has improved considerably since opening, they've done a great job working out the kinks of a new restaurant. My favourite thing about this place? The music, it's been great every time I visit. Least favourite? I mostly come here to drink, have a good time and maybe order an app, so it's not too much of a bother, but the plant based selection is pretty much limited to salads and fries. Which is typical of small towns and honestly, the way the food is prepared somewhat makes up for it in that it's interesting food with a good flavour balance. In peaceful Hastings the number of restaurants are limited. However, McGillicafeys's offers such an extensive menu plus daily specials that you can eat several days in a row and not get tired. The establishment is large enough with a beautiful outside patio and a large bar inside. The decor is simple yet appealing. The service is friendly and efficient. The menu is large and varied. Everything we had was well prepared and tasty. The Kroes beef bites are delicious, an Dutch recipe, yet it reminds me of the Cuban croquettes. Their poutine is very good and they have variations to the classic one. The shepherd's pie is very tasty and with a twist to the original: instead of ground beef they add chopped beef brisket, delicious. The chicken pot pie is tasty and the puff pastry very crispy. The dry rub wings were crunchy and juicy. Their special on Monday is pierogi and they pan fry it a bit so it is a tad crunchy, very tasty. They have drink specials every night plus there is a local beer made just for them. read more

Went to this pub Sat Oct 26. My partner & I arrived about 6:30 pub was full but we were seated in the bar, received our beer & shown to a table shortly after. We had placed our dinner order while at the bar. All good at this point. While seated waiting on our dinner, a burger & jambalaya, most of the earlier customers who were in the midst of eating had finished &left leaving the place about a quarter full. We noticed a group of 4 and another couple had been seated after us with the table of 4 receiving appetizers and the table of 2 receiving their dinner, one was a burger. We asked the waiter to check on our meal, we should have been served prior to other tables receiving their meal. She came back 5 minutes later telling us it was still being prepared. In total we waited about 40 minutes, we watched other tables coming in after us receiving their dinner & had to ask after our meal ourselves. The waiter offered us a discount off our NEXT meal, not this meal, and to get the manager. Our much anticipated evening out, we were celebrating both our birthdays that night & rarely get the opportunity to go out for a nice meal, was ruined by this point and we paid for our beer and left. By this time it was not 7:30 and we were both famished we went to the local fish & chip restaurant around the corner & were seated & served a piping hot meal of homemade battered fish, chips, coleslaw & tarter sauce were served with drinks in under 10 minutes. The place closed at 8 pm but we were not rushed out nor felt pressure to finish fast. The evening ended on a much happier note than an McGillicafey's. read more

Not the first time to this restaurant and had poor service previously but they explained they were short staffed and hiring more people. My husband and I went for dinner tonight and it was terrible. Waited over a half hour for our drinks - two craft beers. We were told the hold up was a keg changeover only to be told later the server forgot to enter our drinks into computer! Then we had to wait more than an hour for our food which consisted of a sandwich and a simple pasta dish - and it was so so. Staff was ready to blame each other which is not good for future business. Will not return nor recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

This was a great surprise in Hastings! Nice layout on the inside overlooking the water. I was greeted by friendly staff as I walked in along with giant signage of the daily specials and The food was great and big portions. I will be back in summer for the patio read more
