One Eighty
One Eighty Hunter opened in 2016, where Parkhill on Hunter used to be. One Eighty advertises as a sports pub, however, it's the closest thing that Peterborough has to a gastro pub. For those of you non-foodies out there, a gastro pub is similar to a regular pub, but it serves high end food and drinks. Now, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't consider their beer menu as "high end", however their specialty drinks and food make up for it.
On Sundays, 180 features $5 Caesars. Like many places in Peterborough, Sunday Funday usually offers cheaper Cesars. You know, to either rejuvenate from the night before or start a good base for the day ahead.
The Caesar menu at 180 is unlike no other. You can pick the type of alcohol (or no alcohol), as well as your toppings. This is where things get amazingly out of control!
The waitress will bring you a laminated menu, that has is set up as a 5 step process. Your first step is to choose between four different types of runner. My fav is the classic. Yes, I know. Boring! Just you wait!
Step 2 is where you pick your booze. Who knew that Caesars could be made with something other than vodka?! One Eighty offers a gin and tequila version. But what really puts the drink over the top is the infused types of vodka. You can order your vodka tasting like bacon, dill, chilli pepper, roasted garlic and cucumber dill!
Step 3 - 5 is all about the fixings. You can spice it up with some horseradish or cool it down with a lime and Worchestershire sauce. There are many different types of veggies that you can add too. Again, I like to go with the celery, but mixing it up with a spicy bean is worth a shot. I often don't make friends with salad, and I jump right to the best part of all, the protein.
Being a meatatarian, I love to top my drink off with a stick of beef jerky made by local butcher Franz's. But you can order bacon, three different types of pepperettes or calbasa. Seriously, it's unreal. I usually double up on the proteins because, yes, they also offer a cheese skewer with three pieces of delicious goodness.
While we have only had the nachos at 180 once (and they were delicious and huge, but a little pricey- expected), I'm only going to rate this past experience.
Food - TBD. The only thing I can comment on here is that the Caesars need to come with side plates and a knife. They keep the rind on the Brie cheese. No one wants to waste cheese...or eat mold.
Drink - 4 - The Caesars on Sunday are a great deal. I'm not sure if I would order on any other day because they could get quite pricey.
Service - 2.5 - The service could be more consistent. Our waitress was fairly busy, but her chatting with friends, who were other patrons, for a good 10 minutes left us with empty glasses for longer than they needed to be. Jason also had to visit the bar to get us side plates and napkins because our waitress was no where to be found.
Atmosphere - 3 - Both of us are unsure if we enjoy ourselves at 180. It's become Ptbo's new "hipster" pub during the day time. For those of you who know the downtown, think SPANKYS but hungover.
Entertainment - 5 - However, what they lack (or don't lack) in atmosphere, they gain in entertainment. The place has many big screen tvs, and at least two can be seen from the patio. Extra points there! The patio is great. Hot, but there are shaded tables.
Overall Experience - 3.5
We will definitely be back for Caesars and probably food, too. But because of the slow service and hipster atmosphere, I can't give One Eighty a 4. I'm hoping that the next time we go, (after a pay cheque!), the food will win me over and I'll be able to bump that score up! read more
