Side Caesar and cup of lobster stew (two large chunks of lobster at the bottom)
Rachel C.

Fun fall drink menu, fast friendly service and a classic 'biker' hang out feel. I ordered the lobster stew based on the 8 yr old photo on here - guessing lobster costs have significantly changed the amount they put in but the flavor was good (only reason for 4 stars). Gets busy fast and TONS of places to sit, I have no idea how the wait staff keeps it all straight! All around fun time.

Some of the cars at the free car show

Hi Friends, A seasonal biker bar/ event space nestled alongside route 1 between Portsmouth, NH & Portland, ME. Boogied out to Bentley's earlier this week while on other errands. Food was good, beverages were ice cold, and there was a free car show happening out front Legendary New England Supermodified ace (and 2 time Indy 500 competitor from the days when 50-60 cars tried to get into the 33 car field) Bentley Warren has taken a one room dive bar and added a motel, campgrounds, outdoor seating and a serious spot for live music. Busy on a Tuesday late afternoon, and full of friendly faces, both the staff and the clientele. You don't need to be a biker to enjoy the scene, seemed to be about an even split between bikers, gear heads and tourists. In fact, about the only real nod to the biker community was the sign declaring "Bentley's is a neutral space, biker colors are not welcomed".

Solid place with tasty food. Great waitress and waiters! It's also a very fun place with both outdoor and indoor seating!

Had a blast. The food was great and love the friendly biker bar. Good place for a date night with hubby. Had fun shooting pool. Fast and friendly service and can't wait to go back soon.

Bar area with the pig

Super cool dive bar with really friendly people and live music. Be sure to get your picture with the pig (you can sit on it if you want, there's a ladder under the table)

It's always a good day when Bentley's opens, and a sad day when Bentley's closes. A true biker bar in Maine. Love it.

My wife and I come here on special occasions like birthdays, Valentine's Day, etc. Our recent visit…read moreon my wife's birthday was no exception. We started the evening with cocktails which were very much to our liking, followed by a delicious appetizer of lobster risotto that we shared. We both ordered the short ribs which were mouthwatering and cooked to perfection that the meat fell off the bone. The servings were enough where we took the bones and whatever meat was left to make a delicious beef soup. Neither one of us were up for dessert but decided to get two to go, which we downed once we got home. And they were both delicious. In closing, I'd be remiss without saying a good word about our server Keila. She was warm, friendly, funny, and very attentive to our table. She made our night to enjoyable! Thanks you Keila ! We look forward to our next visit to The Village Inn soon.

It's been a dozen years since we last dined here. We've changed a tad during that period, and so…read morehave they. We'll spare you the personal stuff and focus on the Taven. Here's what doesn't seem to have changed: it's an attractive, slightly out-of-the-way dining spot that has a very nice bar, comfy seating on a patio and inside, good servers (thank you Heather!), and a menu with a lot of tasty choices. We continue to recommend it, although hesitantly. There have been some changes, in our opinion, that left us just a little disappointed, hence four stars not five. Blackened salmon: pretty good but not much blackened and just a little bit dry. Seafood poblano with clams and scallops: excellent, well seasoned. Calamari: Crunchy but much too chewy. Yummy spinach, a crab cake that tasted bland. Sourdough bread wasn't warm and left us wanting. Fine bar choices with local beers. The romaine salad was, well, unusual, with a blueberry vinaigrette that was awfully sweet for our taste and, frankly, kind of hard to cut. Final verdict? Not quite up to what we hoped for after our experience a dozen years ago. Maybe that's us; memory can be tricky. But we came away not quite as happy as the last time for sure and a little more cautious in recommending the restaurant. If you're curious, entree prices generally in the $30s, appetizers $12-20, cocktails around 12-15. We're giving the Tavern four stars, but 3.5 would be closer to our preference.

Unfortunately, no outdoor dining before Memorial Day. Great knowledgeable and attentive service with Paul. Upstairs was busy but not crowded. Food was fantastic. Wild mushroom soup was delicious. A tasting of sunchokes, pan seared mousam bakery mushrooms and shishito peppers made a meal for one of the party and still had leftovers. Best was the entree, Maine style palusami was a complex flavor concoction that was a home run. Finished with black forest cake. Hope to return again from the West Coast. First of all, We don't drink alcohol and the bar was louder than the main dining room. With all the empty space she took us to an area where two other couples were at the tables next to us. No consideration regarding privacy and I don't care to hear other people's conversation at dinner. I carefully picked up our service ware and moved it to the empty table in the corner. It even seemed it might be a stretch for the server in the Bar to be able to walk 25' to our NEW location. The Food was very tasty. The bottled water was chlorinated, so we bought a liter. The 2 liter Gigantic green water bottles were attempting to take the place of center pieces, but you can't lift them (4.4Lbs) safely. I worked in a few HIGH Level Restaurants as the maitre D'. I always catered to the customer's needs. AS for Bandaloop; With improved customer service that does not take a "guarded attitude", it would be a more gracious place. I was not attacking anyone. I mentioned that a 2 liter bottle cannot be picked up and poured with ease. "It's a new thing changed by the manager."--------- It was not well thought out. Try to pour a 2 liter bottle of wine or water with one hand. We also had to use another napkin as a placemat. What is on those tables? Bee's Wax? Use some Dawn soap.

We'll never go back. We walked in, and the hostess was busy…read moretaking an order on the phone. We were left standing there. At one point, she put the phone on hold, and walked back to the kitchen. Rule #1 of hospitality: Always service the people who are literally in front of you, and took the time on a cold night to drive and to patronize you and your establishment. Put phone callers on hold. We were then seated in a back corner booth with no view of the restaurant. When a waitress appeared, I asked the price of the Lobster BLT listed in the menu section of their website. "Oh, we don't have that anymore." I asked why it remained on their website. I got a dirty look. She went on to tell my party that they actually had NO lobster in house. In Maine. My partner ordered a Reuben sandwich. He opened it up and we found about 1 tsp of sauerkraut inside. The breading on my fish sandwich was overdone and beyond crispy. But the most infuriating moment was ordering a cup of hot tea. Hot water and a tea bag, nothing more. Since the waitress had disappeared, I had to physically get up and ask for a hot water refill. The waitress I did find didn't want to help, instead pointing in another direction, saying "She's over there." I tracked her down; our waitress was talking with another employee. I asked for some more hot water to refill the cup with the same teabag. She brought it. When paying the bill, I found l'd been charged $6.50 for 2 cups of tea. Wow. One teabag and one refill of hot water. $6.50! The food was not great, the service horrendous, and the charges ridiculous. We'll be heading back to Federal Jacks soon. I doubt we're ever returning to this poorly run restaurant.

I ordered pan-blackened haddock tacos - but asked that instead of them being in tortillas, could the ingredients just be "thrown into a bowl?" I was being high-maintenance right out of the gate. I realized that this was a weird request. I'm not sure what my deal was, I just felt like having things in a bowl that day (insert shrug here). Our server's name was Shane and she was so pleasant and more than happy to put my odd request in (side note, she was phenomenal for our entire visit! Thank you Shane!) The end-result of my bizarre request was the most delicious bowl of yum ever! Truly, if haddock is your thing, give it a try. It looked delicious, it tasted even better; holy moly, the people in the kitchen totally understood the assignment. Shane even said she showed it off to the other people working before bringing it to our table. It really, truly was that good. I'm still dreaming about it. Basically, Federal Jack's has it all: a phenomenal menu, awesome food, wonderful staff, great vibes. It's the kind of place you want to revisit, and wish you lived closer to.

It feels like Maine with the wood logs as the decor and trees. We sat in the back room which almost gives a Maine camp porch vibe. There are two different Prix fix a three and a four. My husband got the three but I went with the four because I had heard some great things with the glazed carrots, I thought we could share them. Everything was wonderful but just too much food for me. I started with the tuna sashimi which was superb and my husband had the pork belly. I had the glazed carrots and they brought my husband glazed cauliflower on the house, loved both. My husband had the steak and I had the halibut and they both were delicious. My fish came with baby potatoes, I'm not a fan of those. Finally my husband had their famous glazed donuts, the plate was licked clean and I had the chocolate cake. He completely disregarded the other guest and only focused on my drink order, which felt disrespectful. After taking my order and walking awaynot once but twice, when he returned I had to ask, "Are you not going to take her drink order?" The tuna sashimi was great and the carrots were good as well. However, something about the halibut tasted off. I work with fish daily, and this personally was not it. I had one bite and could not continue eating it. The server boxed up the halibut for me, but then tossed a to-go container onto the table for us to box our own dessert, which felt inconsistent with the level of service. The bartender was wearing an H&H raincoat and appeared to be drinking on the job, while other female staff members were scrolling on their phones. Overall, not a great first impression. The ambiance itself was nice, but when you make an 8:30 PM reservation and receive a text at 7:30 PM saying your table is ready, it feels a bit off-putting. I had asked beforehand if anything earlier was available and was told no, so I intentionally booked later for an evening experience. Then upon arrival, the restaurant was fairly empty. Within the first few minutes of us being there, the kitchen doors were closed and cleaning was happening all around us. It created an unpleasant atmosphere for what was supposed to be a social evening out and a little hoorah celebration, and nothing was acknowledged by staff. It was clear that reservation notes or comments in chat of reservation were not reviewed. Overall, not thrilled with the experience. Been there, done that -- one visit was enough for me/us unless that 49-year-old male server Charlie learns how to properly serve guests and the kitchen team start to season the food a bit better. Would have been nice if Charlie checked in with us more like he did the other tables hence the eaves dropping to know more about him and the place. 4/10 experience, will not be back which is a bummer.
