Our flight was diverted to Indianapolis, and we were given a food voucher from the airline. It wasn't going to be a long layover so we grabbed a couple of pretzels from Ben's soft pretzels. They were fresh out of the oven. Cooked perfectly and definitely hit the spot. Priced at $6.19 which was pretty good for the airport.

    Breakfast served early!

I was so looking forward to trying the breakfast pretzel sandwiches at Ben's. The sandwiches are premade and wrapped. The $7 egg sandwich that I received was burned. I returned and asked if all the sandwiches were burned and the clerk told me, "The oven gets hot, it's not burned, it's just brown." It was pretty evident that she wasn't going to replace the brick nugget that I received. So, I tried the sandwich. The egg and roll were burned and dry. I was happy there was not a layer of salt on the pretzel roll. Overall, I was pretty disappointed. It was fun to watch the pretzels being made.

    Significant size differential here lol

If you're a soft pretzel fan but you haven't tried Ben's yet... you need to get on that! It's based on an Amish recipe and began in Elkhart, Indiana. I can't think of a better airport snack before a flight snooze and much needed vacation. I'm so glad there is a location in the Indy airport! When I went, a health inspector on a power trip happened to show up and started razzing the young adults working -- a bit too harshly/condescendingly in my opinion, to the point it was incredibly distracting as a customer and was clearly making the staff nervous. This was of course not the fault of the employees so I really felt for them as this stranger was pestering them about the paper towels being out at one of the sinks... not a huge deal in my opinion but he seemed like he would have put them all in timeouts if he could have... I am docking one star for the size difference in some of the pretzels for sale. It was a bit too egregious (as pictured) to go unaddressed.

Waited for ever while the worker was making dough, at this point she went behind the door to make a phone call. Never got waited on.

We stopped by around 4:45 PM and there was one lady working who informed us when we walked towards the counter that it was gonna be a little bit. She was standing at the side counter working some dough so we assumed she would finish what she was doing and then come help us. There were no pretzels at the counter, so we figured she would take our order and make it fresh. But after waiting over five minutes, we left and ended up coming back two different times while she was still working the dough and turning away customers. At one point, I stood there with two other customers thinking maybe she would stop trying to build up inventory and at least take our order and make what we would like then finish making other pretzels to have on hand, but she stopped what she was doing and went behind the door to make a call. I overheard her with who I am assuming another coworker or manager and she was saying how she was trying to call someone else in, but she wasn't answering. That's all fine and good, but she lost at least six customers that I know of because we all walked away. It was after 5 PM and there was no pretzels made. It's common sense to go ahead and take your customers order and make what they want and then build up your inventory, but she did not really acknowledge most other customers besides saying it would be a while. Even when we got to our gate to get on our airplane, one of the airline workers made a remark to us about how she was so mad because she waited over 40 minutes and never got waited on too. I was excited to try this place, but the lady working made it very clear that they don't really want customers at this location.

You can watch them make your pretzel

A Ben's pretzel ALWAYS slaps. It is the perfect airport pre-adventure snack. This location seems to always be out of pretzels and the customer service is a little lacking (though I totally understand that it is a tough gig in the food service industry). I waited 30 minutes to get a pretzel and sat by the window waiting for the SECOND those babies hit the floor. If you sit by the tables next to Ben's you too can actively monitor the pretzel situation.

    Indianapolis International Airport location.

Although they advertise pretzel hot dogs, none are ever available in the two times I visited. I flew in on Thursday afternoon and they were none available and there were hardly ANY products available. Four employees were just talking and it didn't look like anyone was in a rush to make any products. On Sunday, I was back in the airport around 2:30pm and the same situation. No pretzel dogs and hardly any product. Not sure how this location is still in business.

Solid pretzel but a little burnt on the bottom and they didn't have any cinnamon! I really wanted cinnamon!

I've driven by the Bakery, so many times and wanted to stop, but I was always in a hurry. My sister and I went in and we each got a dessert and because it was four in the afternoon, we got decaffeinated coffee. The refills were free and we sat at the little counter like we were at a diner and enjoyed everything about this iconic little bakery. The decor is a eclectic. We just took our time and looked around and laughed at so many signs and odd little things that were placed over the years. On the way to the ladies room, you will find out that the gentleman that started the restaurant fought in one of the world wars, and you will see his worn out shoes, his uniforms, his letters of accommodation and Learn his story. Now let's get to the desserts. We shared some type of a wonderful lemon pastry and a black forest cake. Best black forest cake I've ever had. Savored every bite. We were able to buy the last of the springle's that they had made from Christmas. FYI, if you don't like black licorice don't buy Springerle's but you can only get them at Christmas because it's a German tradition and they won't work in the summertime because of the humidity. Things that I learned that day. We saw that they had a dinner menu with a huge variety of different bratwurst and assorted sausages that we would like to try sometime. We ended up spending an hour and a half in a beautiful little place that we thought we were just going to stop and grab desserts to go.

We got there early and were able to have some drinks and food, including the nachos. Man, I was not expecting BBQ sauce and like a mustardy sauce and cheese and it was flavor exploding, loved it. With the event we had catered pork/chicken as well as sides. Everything was great, the peppercorn dressing for the salad was so amazing, I would definitely think of a salad here in the future. The venue inside the space, with the car, is quaint with seating and you get to see everything happening outside the space as well. This last time, we were in the original Guggman Haus brewing building that houses the coffee. This is adorable! We had service the entire time, including a bartender and the beer. They made everything super easy and I would consider this space for a baby shower, bridal shower, etc. We had 25 people and it fit wonderfully. There is also outside space for overflow, so it makes it very reasonable. Now onto the beer! I had the IPA Riverside, very hazy with a great flavor. Then I went off the rocker and ordered some prickly pear drink, I was not expecting how good that was! Refreshing and light, easy to drink (probably too easy) and the flavor was perfect! Try it if you are there, it is a newer option. PROS: Parking easy, street and lot Many open spaces and areas to rent Games are included, so eat, drink and enjoy company They have trivia nights, woohoo CONS: Sometimes the food is not always a hit, nothing to state specifically today, but I recall in the past saying to myself, don't order that again. So, try everything and find what you like. The place is great and the beer/food options are good, so you will find something you like.

On my first visit today, I had the Hot Wurst sausage sampler plate that was wonderful! But watch out for the spicy mustard! It's eye watering!! & the "original 6" beer sampler was delicious! The only (big) thing that tainted my experience was the extremely loud waitstaff having very, very loud conversations (it really shouldn't involve constant yelling & screaming), behind the scenes. Their voices echoed throughout the space & were a constant annoyance to an otherwise wonderful meal. That was a real dealbreaker for me. If it's the same next time, I won't be revisiting.

The old Bavarian charm remains throughout the restaurant. Our visit this time was prior to the MJ MUSICAL at Old National. It's right across the street. The staff is well aware of their diner's itinerary and backs certain you can enjoy cocktails, wine, and dinner in time for the 7:00 pm start time. I applaud that courtesy. It was evident that our server, Cindy was a seasoned employee (20 years). Her attention throughout our visit left us wanting for nothing. I noticed many times her surveying our table for refills, empty plates. Her big smile and friendly personality only added to the exceptional experience. The food is prepared in the traditional German style. It is rich and very filling. The portions are enormous. Our party enjoyed an appetizer of Brat & Kraut balls and entrees of Schnitzel Parm., Jäeger schnitzel, spinach dinner salad with hot bacon dressing and my favorite "Oxtail Soup". Just the item for a cold winter night. Patrons of OLD NATIONAL CENTER shows should start their evening off right with dinner at THE RATHSKELLER. You won't be disappointed.
