Solid Mediterranean restaurant. I was with a very large group and they handled it very well…read more Service was good. The young woman taking care of our section was kept extremely busy but she did a great job. I had the chicken Caesar salad. The grilled chicken was served on the side & the salad could have used a little more dressing, but it was huge. The place was very busy at lunchtime on a Thursday, so the locals have definitely embraced this place. I will be back.

Food inconsistent lately when delivered by Door Dash…read more Vegetarian ratatouille had been excellent (although tomato sauce a bit saltier than I like) most of the times I've ordered it. The most recent time, it looked and tasted defrosted and re-heated. I threw most of it out. Unacceptable at any price point, but especially unacceptable at the price they charge. Zucchini pancakes inconsistent as well. My favorite menu item. Usually comes topped with a small amount of yogurt, but one time, it was swimming in yogurt (did someone's hand slip when adding the yogurt?) Falafel I could live without, since it's priced much higher than falafel I order elsewhere and not as good a recipe. Maybe I'd order it again if they'd offer it for a lower price without fries. Grape leaves has been reliably excellent. Babaganouj and avoganouj have been consistently good. Labneh has been inconsistent; can't quite figure out why I sometimes love it and sometimes not. If they want to keep my business, the food needs to be consistently freshly prepared.

Solid fast, casual Mediterranean food in Paramus…read more Despite Hummus Republic apparently having multiple locations in NJ and across the U.S., I shamelessly admit that I had neverrrrr, everrrrr heard of Hummus Republic prior to finding them on Yelp recently. Whenever I think of fast, casual Mediterranean food, popular spots like Naya, Cava and Eons come to mind and it was nice to see yet ANOTHER option in Hummus Republic. As they say, the more the merrier! Hummus Republic's menu looks eerily similar to those aforementioned competitors. They serve your ever popular Mediterranean-inspired custom bowls, wraps and pitas that comprise of a base/carb/salad, protein (e.g. chicken, falafel, shawarma, etc.), hummus and spreads, toppings and dressings. One thing was for sure after I brought our takeout orders home - it will satisfy any large appetite because the employees absolutely PACKED our bowls to the gills. There wasn't even enough breathing room for an ant! My wife and I both ordered custom bowls with chicken shawarma and falafel and various toppings. As favorable as the serving size was, unfortunately, the flavors were no Naya, Cava or Eons. Don't get me wrong, it was decent, but something was definitely lacking. The ingredients were fresh, but something about the mixture of it all didn't gel. It was one of those "when you know, you know" type of situations because, after taking a few bites, we both agreed that its competitors were definitely better overall. STILL, with what I said about the flavors, it was solid. By far from something terrible, but a rung below the best of the fast, casual Mediterranean spots. There is no doubt Naya, Cava and Eons are at the very top, but, if we were in the area, would I drop in again? Sure. Absolutely. Custom Bowl with halal chicken and falafel

This place offers up fantastic Mediterranean fare and is run by some of the nicest people around. When they saw my husband eyeing a platter of an interesting dessert, they offered us both small spoonfuls to sample (I don't remember what it was called, but it was coconutty and delicious). I adored the falafel platter, which was a behemoth serving of 6 falafels, freshly made hummus, tabbouleh, and pita. The falafels were freshly fried and had a lovely sprinkle of sesame seeds. Coupled with a smooth smear of homemade hummus, my eyes were fluttering shut as I ate. My husband's side of the table went similarly silent as he dug voraciously into his mixed shawarma sandwich. He especially appreciated how they toasted the wrapper, which was more like a lavash than a pita. Before we left, we got a baba ghanoush to go. Our jaws dropped when we saw the serving size. We're so used to getting tiny containers from other spots that this giant aluminum platter of eggplant spread - complete with a little pool of fresh olive oil drizzle and stack of warmed pita - had us stilled with shock. We appreciated the sides and variety of sauces that came with our meal. The small cups of mayo, tzatziki, and spicy sauce, along with olives, pepperocinis, and pickled radishes, really helped complete our meal. These small and thoughtful touches made this meal feel more like eating in someone's home kitchen rather than a restaurant. On that note - know that everything is made from scratch and to order, which means the food will take a little longer than you might expect from a fast casual spot. This sweet gem is located on a random street in Hackensack, and a bit hard to find if you're not looking for it because there isn't much to draw attention to it. There's a small parking lot right in front of the restaurant, making it easy to drop in for a quick meal or to-go order.

Either find on the street nearby to walk or in the very tiny space in the front (to which good luck if you try to back out). However, that said the food more than makes up for it. Extremely fresh food made from scratch, you can tell the quality is there looking at the kitchen. This is also the only place to this day that I've found in the area that serves hot grape leaves, which are my favorite item on the menu, most mediterranean spots only make them cold. Their platters are also very filling and solid portion size. If you prefer to go lighter, there are also sandwich options with or without fries. Seating is very small, so takeout is their main business though you could certainly dine in if you'd like. Service has always been solid, the owner is very friendly! I'll keep coming back despite the tricky parking.
