My elderly parents were just scammed out of $700 for a shower cartridge. 45 minutes of "work" and trying to sell (really push) a water filtration system. The quick fix that this plumber made for over $700 didn't even fix the problem!!!! My mother was told that she may have to go get a new shower head if it doesn't work from Lowe's after already paying the service. You should be ASHAMED!!!! I looked online and this service ranges from $100-$200. This is disgusting!!! Thankfully my mother didn't pay for the filtration system after the guy tried to con her into it. called them to repair the kitchen pipe broken, the tech arrived. He took a look and said he needEd to go out to get some parts, will be back right away. Waited more than an hour, came back but did not see him back to the house, all the time he was on the phone, after almost 30 mins he was on the phone came back to work on the jobs. The job only 20 mins, Then had me to pay the service with his I-pad. He neve me the whole invoice just showed me the are to sign. I asked the invoice, he said invoice will send to my email. Then he said because we are their first customer? we will receive 10% discount on service on any apppiance. Also we will see guys will be in our house running around to check our appliance like water heater tank, they will drain the water and clean up to refill the water ... etc all free. right after her left, checked on their invoice, found out there's a charge $120 fee for future water heater tank service .... etc. Called their company to find out what was that about? They said it is a membership fee. the guy never said it was a membership fee fee, this guy also unpro, most of the time he was on the phone with his wife. he did not show Me the invoice a. Worst than that he dropped a can of like chemicals in our driveway, his drive ran over it and the chemical leaking all over. We water hosed the leakage but still unable to clean that up. besides That the pipe he supposed to repair still incomplete, the pipe still leaking. Long story short, the Ben Franklin person told me the water heater needed to be replaced and tried to sell me a $7,000 water heater along with a membership. He barely even looked at the water heater. Being that I've been flipping houses for quite some time I knew I was getting scammed. Got a different company to come out. Their technician said all I needed was a recirculating pump. I am not inclined to post negative reviews online, but this company's misconduct against me is so egregious that I cannot remain silent and am compelled to warn others. Moreover, I attempted to contact them by letter to their main corporate office of record, but the postal service returned my correspondence as undeliverable. I contacted them through their LinkedIn page, but I have not received a reply after two months. This past August, my water main between the meter and the house sprung a leak. A plumber from Ben Franklin provided a quote of $5.4K, which I agreed to. This was predicated on their representation that a new PEX line would replace the existing PVC line. This would require them to trench through the yard with extensive roots from a large oak tree and cut through the concrete driveway. I signed the agreement and provided my credit card information. On a subsequent morning, two immigrant workers from Ben Franklin arrived to perform the work. They handed me a tablet and insisted that I sign a statement that the work had been completed to my satisfaction. I initially stated that I would not do so because the work had not started, but they insisted I sign before they could begin working. Believing that I was dealing with a reputable company, thinking that the workers were confused and limited in their understanding of English, and needing to get the problem fixed ASAP, I signed the tablet. One of the workers began digging through the lawn with a round-point shovel. I had expected that they would have had a mechanical trencher. I expressed my concern that it would be very difficult and time-consuming to dig the trench in that manner. The worker advised that he was marking the path of the trench and would switch to using a trenching shovel to do the digging. A short time later, I noticed that the worker was digging the trench with the round-point shovel. He told me that there was no trenching shovel on the truck. I own a trenching shovel, which I allowed him to use. As he struggled to slowly dig through the roots, the other worker was busy uncovering the connections to the meter and house. After about an hour, one of the workers had an epiphany. The PEX line they were installing was ¾ inches, and the existing PVC line was 1 inch, so they could simply snake the PEX through the PVC and avoid digging the trench. I questioned whether that was proper, and I was advised that they checked with the plumber, who said that was the best way to go. I complained that because the scope of the work changed, I should not have to pay $5.4K. They called the office with my complaint, and the response was that I had signed the agreement and that they would not lower the cost. The workers needed a torch to connect the new line to the house's copper tubing. Unbelievably, the truck did not have a working torch. Fortunately, I had a working torch that I allowed them to use. Eliminating the time spent futilely digging and then refilling the trench, I generously estimate that the job required 1.5 manhours and $250 in materials. As the workers were sent out ill-equipped to do the job as initially planned, I concluded that the plumber knew that this was a simple job--I was scammed. I would recommend that you stay away from this company. read more

Called for home water leak. First man came and checked toilets and spigots said I had to sign contract for second man to come with expensive much in demand equipment for $532. Second man came with stethoscope with a 10" strobing pin on end and a 1" x 3" x 3" amplifier in-between. He identified a Leak under slab and narrowed it down to about 200 square feet. His mission was apparently to sell me a whole house replumbing since they mostly used soft copper in 2000 when my house was built, implying that soft copper was less desirable than hard copper of which I am unsure. He prepared three estimates from $17, 000 to $20,500 for whole house replumbing. Steve was here about 30 minutes and I signed a contract for 2nd man to come with his expensive, much in demand equipment. The 2nd man came with his (my estimate) $40 listening tool and checked for leak sounds. He was here about one hour of which 15 minutes were required for him to fill out the replumbing estimates. He tried to charge me more but finally agreed on $532.95. I still have my 0.14 gallon per minute leak. The leak was not pin pointed just that he heard it from Florida room and pantry about 10' away. I feel like I was taken advantage of which at 86, I do not like. read more

STAY AWAY!! We contracted with Benjamin Franklin Plumbing to replumb our residence. After the work was completed, we required them to come back several times to correct and fix some minor issues. We also had one person go underneath the house to ensure there were no leaks or other issues and he said there were none. Several months later we had an issue with the shower door not fitting correctly and we attempted to fix that without success. We also noticed that we needed to re-caulk the shower area in the bathroom. This past fall, the door to that bathroom would not close properly. We also noticed that the caulking in the shower was stretched and that there was a large gap between the molding on the bathroom floor and on the outside wall of the bathroom. We realized at that time we had a serious issue that was worsening. We had to get a foundation company to come out and evaluate our problem. The company came out and assessed that our foundation was sinking due to the cutting that was made to the main structural girder by the Benjamin Franklin plumber in order to easily allow plumbing to be installed. A non-standard and non-code fix of the main support girder was made by the Benjamin Franklin plumber, which led to the eventual failure of the foundation. (We provided Picture Attachments and Email Attachments to Benjamin Franklin). We also attached the Proposal from the Foundation Company and the payment receipts for the total of $4185.00 to put in the foundation supports. There were also pictures of the supports attached to the email sent to Benjamin Franklin Plumbing. We asked to please let us know what are the next steps and how will Benjamin Franklin compensate us for our loss and damage to our home. It is very evident to us that Benjamin Franklin Plumbing does substandard and non-code work. Below is an outline of our communications with Benjamin Franklin Plumbing: - Mr. Mathew Olsen passed our complaint to upper management (Mr. Mario Martinez and Mr. James Mullis) on 8 February 2024. - They held a meeting on 13 February 2024 to discuss our complaint. - Mr. Olsen requested to come by and take pictures in the crawl space on 14 February 2024. Told me to contact them the following week to check on status of our complaint. - Texted Mr. Olsen 21 February 2024 for feedback - never answered. - Called and left a voice mail for feedback - never replied. - Sent emails to Mr. Olsen on 28 February 2024 and 29 February 2024 and have received no response to date. It is very evident to us that Benjamin Franklin Plumbing does substandard and non-code work. There is absolutely no quality control for work performed by their teams. We had them install the pump they recommended, then only two years later they told us we needed to upgrade to a pump twice as big for $5,000. Needed to have a toilet looked at because it rocked slightly. They came out the same day (within a few hours of my first call). The dispatcher was very nice and polite. The two guys who came out were extremely professional, wore booties to keep the house clean, had their own shop vac and towels to keep everything clean and dry. They were in and out in under an hour. Replaced a bolt, and the wax ring (because you have to any time you unset a toilet) and I believe they used some shims to keep it from wobbling. Now.... the bill $270.00. That is more than we paid for the brand new toilet from Lowe's. I didn't ask for same day, they said they had techs in the area so they would be here anytime from 10-2. Would I use them again? No. But not because of the service which was great. But there is no way that was worth 270.00. A little surprised they didn't caulk around the bottom of the toilet. The plumber was on time and provided a a price before starting - 775.00- for EACH FAUCET! 1550.00 for 4 hours, at a leisurely pace, of labor. I've owned many homes, used many plumbers and electricians, and other pro's- but this was a fleecing like I've never seen. Unfortunately I really needed this work done that day. But it didn't end there - after I reviewed my credit card charges online later the same evening - these guys charged me double! A 3000.00 charge to my credit card. Thank god I checked. My dad had early stage dementia and when their sink backed up, this company told him that he needed to have the floor jackhammered in order to replace the pipe - estimate of $15,000. My dad was hesitant so the company said they could install a sewer pump outside the kitchen on the patio for the low cost of $8,000!! I wasn't aware of this until after it was done. I had an honest plumber look at it and he cleared the clog, hooked up the old drain and it works perfectly. If your hair is gray, this company sees dollar signs. Had these guys come out to install a new sink,( install new drain in the sink, hook up pipes from sink to existing water drain coming from the wall). Job took 35 minutes to do (I did the job) that's how I know how long it took, they had two guys so I'm thinking maybe 25 minutes or less for them to do it. Parts: $40, I know this because I went out and bought the parts.. There fee to do this job.......$429.00. Needless to say I did not have them do the job. Although I did have to pay a $69.00 fee for them to show up. I can't say if they do good work or not because I did not have them do the work. The two guys that came out were very professional and courteous. If you do not have a problem paying more then double the cost for plumbing then I feel it should be.... then I'm sure they do good work. read more

on August 27, 2020. I called Benjamin Franklin and asked for a plumber to come unclog the drain. The plumber arrived and did a very good job. Now to my problem. I wrote the check for $277 for approximate hour and 30 minutes work but I understand that's the going rate. It has been 130 days since I wrote that check it was posted on January 14, 2021. They sat on my payment for four months and did not even have the decency to call and say we just found this check you want to write us a new one or should we go ahead and post it. I called to find out what the problem had been and was told all the managers are busy I should call back some other time. My water heater went out 5 days before Hurricane Michael. I called my regular plumber, he was busy on another project. Called 2 more, couldn't come. In the meantime, I went to Lowe's and purchased a 40gal water heater for $350. Was going to have Lowe's install for around $800 to $1000. Then they called and said they could not install, the man was out of town. Called Benjamin Franklin, guy said for me to return the WH I purchased and he would get me a better one. The price was $2,180 installed with state requirement upgrade. I paid the price. Now I wanted an itemized bill. They send me an invoice for what I paid. I have called 4 times and still no itemized bill. I want to know what cost so much. This is Hell of a way to do business. I will never call them again. Thomas rocks! We had a pipe burst during the cold freeze and were freaking out! Had to google how to turn off the water and my husband dig up the pipe to see if he could figure out what was going on, but neither of us felt smart enough to tackle a plumbing problem Thomas came out, realized it wasn't a burst pipe, just a coupler problem, fixed it and was gone! He took the time to explain what the problem was, how it happened and what we can do to make sure we don't have the problem again. All in all it took 1.25 hours from the initial call to him leaving. I finally called a plumber to unclog my toilet. He came earlier than scheduled which was good. He said in 35 years this was the hardest toilet to unclog. It took him maybe 20-30 minutes to unclog it. During the process his "snake" popped out resulting in feces to splatter all over toilet, wall above toilet and rugs. I am not pleased he didn't clean up anything. However, since I have never used a plumber before I don't know if they are not required to clean up. Luckily my Senior Care Giver was scheduled to arrive within the next hour so I was able to get it cleaned up, as I am not able to do anything like that. read more

Let the buyer beware. EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE and cost not revealed until you commit to "evaluation fee" of $69. Competent techs and excellent equipment but the phone operator refused to give indication of prices except for the $69 to come to the house. Implied a simple job could be done for the $69 fee. NOT TRUE. He must have known but would not tell that they have set prices for categories of jobs (jobs are broken into five categories). Their MINIMUM price is $69 + $85 = $154. That to do something as simple as a small adjustment and that only if you are a "member" of their "club" ($90+ per year "membership fee") which apparently gets you a 20% discount. They wanted over $330 to snake out a slow laundry drain; less than one hour from arrival to departure. To snake out a sewer line from house to street is over $430. Competing companies will do same job just as well for less than 1/3 the price. Call Acme in Destin or Wilingham in Valparaiso. OR next time I'll rent a 25 foot motorized snake and do it myself. Is it wrong to say you LOVE a plumbing company? Well, call me wrong. BF Plumbing has done so much work on our older home, and also on our rental, that this review is long overdue. Nick and David so wonderful work; very thorough, prompt, and extremely professional. Yes, the prices could seem high (we are BenFranklin Members, so the cost is less overall). However, consider the cost of the services when you get the WRONG plumbers in there, or you try to do it yourself. In those situations, the cost get exponentially higher and your time also costs money. Older home: we've had to replace our entire water main line, including the line to our guest cottage. They worked overtime, in the cold and were incredibly thorough. Wished we had known about them when we did our inside line, as that situation would have gone much smoother... (a family plumbing company did the work, and we are still regretting their service). Our rental house: we were fixing it up to sell. I made the mistake of having one of our contractors use his 'plumbing guy' to reinstall sinks and hook up dishwasher. The day of the open house, the dishwasher leaked so much it pulled up the wood floors and there was water everywhere. Our 'contractor' was trying NOT to see the puddle.... so I called BenFrank Plumbing and they had it all fixed within an hour. Should have called them first! Next time a few years later, I figured it was a fluke, $69 fee to show up, reasonable, $2000 plus estimate. I dropped the phone. Forget that, I fixed the problem for $100 in parts and 1.5 hr labor. WARNING *********** WARNING ************WARNING********** I would not use this company. I had a stopped up sink and called them. They did send someone right away, but the plumber did not know what he was doing. I called the company and they sent someone else. By the end of his visit, I not only had a stopped up sink, I had broken pipes. They broke the pipes and tried to tell me they were already broken, really ?? The final guy that came out, said the pipe is old and would of broke eventually and they want to charge me $22,000 to replace the entire pipe under the house. WHAT ?? Ok, they came down to $19,500. They break my pipe and want to charge me an enormous amount. I had another plumber here a few hours ago, in 10 minutes he unclogged my clogged pipe and said he can cut off the pipe and run another pipe and the total cost is less than $1,000.00. He said absolutely no reason to dig up my house to replace the entire pipe. Parrett Plumbing is who you should call NEVER NEVER NEVER Benjamin Franklin. I am a retired Air Force enlisted individual who just happens to live in a small home in Crystal Beach (Destin). I am not a wealthy investor, but apparently Benjamin Franklin (B-F) Technicians must think everyone living in Destin has money to burn. I setup an appointment to have a 40 gal, electric water replaced. I waited a week only to have the BF service tech arrive and try to sell me their commercial grade water heaters at ridiculous prices. The first estimate was for water heater, drain pan, and expansion tank for $3,200 with a 6 yr warranty; the second estimate was for $4,200 for the same hardware replacements but with a 10 yr warranty. I questioned the justification for such high prices. I pushed back on the need for a commercial grade water heater for my 1400 sf home. The original Ruud 40 gallon water had lasted over 15 yrs without fail. The only reason I am replacing the Rudd Water Heater is that my new home insurance company requires it. There current Ruud Water Heater is working fine! The technician basically berated the quality of hot water heaters sold by Lowes and Home Depot as substandard. I was informed that BF Plumbers only use commercial grade water heaters. I do not have buckets of money to spend on needless commercial grade hot water heaters. The BF technician failed to convince me that his product is any better than Lowes or Home Depot....guess I will consult other plumbers for a better estimate. Do not use Benjamin Franklin unless you have tons of money and do not care that you are being taken advantage of. read more

Without looking at anything he told me it would cost somewhere between 375.00 and 1200.00 dollars. I wasn't about to such a ridiculous price for such a minor repair. read more

A horrible experience with this plumbing company! For a job that we were quoted that would take 2-3 days took 7 weeks. 5 failed inspections, 3 different crews to get the job done. Everyone was nice- but did not know what they were doing or even know the codes in Pensacola. It took 5 weeks for the operations manager to figure out that one of the code violations was that the base of the toilet had to be 15 inches from the wall. That is just one of the many many issues. On the first inspection- it was so bad that the inspector turned them into the competency board. I am not a plumber that is why I hired a plumbing company- they are suppose to know what they are doing- they completely failed on all aspects. And their compensation was less than desired. They could have offered a much better compensation- considering how long, how much we were put out, loss of income, the stress. And to save face in the community and to satisfy a customer. But no they are more worried about the bottom dollar and the heck with customer satisfaction. read more

He was polite and very professional. He replaced the water heater, cleaned up the work area and overall I was extremely pleased with both Ben Franklin and Kody's service.
