I stopped by Benitos Place because it was the first place I saw after leaving a local bar. This small restaurant has a homestyle, family-owned vibe. Speaking of homestyle vibe, I will say that the waitress working during my visit provided excellent service. She was very friendly and provided a few recommendations to get me oriented. For my dining pleasure, I went with a cheese pupusa and the seafood soup. First, I'll say that you will receive a generous portion of soup with various bits of seafood (clams, mussels, shrimp, and bits of fish). The soup was about $23, which I thought was fair for the area. Unfortunately, I found the soup to be a bit bland. However, that was not a big deal because the restaurant has several delicious varieties of hot sauces. To be honest, I did not have an issue with the blandness of the soup. However, I was a bit disappointed that the mussels had a bit of very old/fishy taste. After having one mussel, I decided it wouldn't be worth it to have the rest. Interestingly, the other seafood bites in the soup were fine. Although the service was great, which is the main reason this review is 3-stars instead of 2-stars, I do not think I'll visit in the near future.

I visited Benito's Place with a group of about 7 people. The restaurant is small but we were able to get a table. They have a pretty robust menu. I got the tacos Fritos Hondurenos. The fried tacos were delicious and I enjoyed the toppings on them. The pricing at the restaurant is definitely better than going to other restaurants in DC. Service was also quick. I will definitely be back.

My wife and I recently got takeout on a weeknight from Benitos Place and had a fine experience. Our order was delivered on time and everything was warm. Benitos did a fantastic job with their salsas, with the salsa verde and the salsa rojo both having great heat and flavor. We split the pupusas, which were good with a lot of melty cheese. My sopas started off extremely good, although I tired of the cream and the dairy by the end. I tried the baleadas and they tasted like so-so quesadillas. I'm glad I tried Benitos for a unique cuisine but I am fine just trying it once.

I have been coming here for years to send money to family back in Mexico, and I rarely jad the opportunity to eat in the restaurant. Thelma the Owner is the one who I've been dealing with all of these years and they have simply been awesome with my transactions. Today was the day when I did actually have the time to sit down and enjoy lunch in the restaurant. I had tried popusas many years ago and they were good with no stomach problems afterwards. I thought I would order the same thing again, and this time I added the cabbage to the popusas. You also need to add some spicey salsa which I didn't know before. The popusas was so good, I ordered a second one to take home with me. They were served hot and more delicious than my popusas experience years ago. This is a great place!

Best pupusas that I've ever had! Another fellow Yelp Elite recommended this restaurant to me and it did not disappoint. Highly recommend ordering their pupusas (any flavor) as they were my favorite and a big size for the price. Also enjoyed the slaw and dipping sauce it came with. Benito's place is very affordable. In addition to 2 types of pupusas, I got their Mole Poblano and Baleadas. I did not like the Baleadas because the cheese tasted too stinky for me, like a goat cheese. The Mole Poblano was good and the beans and rice it came with were well seasoned. I wish they gave more chicken in the dish or offered a cheaper vegetarian option without the chicken. The mole was sweet and spicy but the dish was a little pricey relative to the other options on their menu. Service was fine and they have inside seating.

It was raining so I ducked into Benito's to order a pupusa takeaway while the rain passed. I had the bean and cheese and loroco and cheese pupusas, in addition to chips and queso. It's very small space so be prepared. The service for ordering was quick. I enjoyed the bean and cheese, pupusa, but was not a fan of the loroco pupusa. I also expected them to be a little softer. I could blame that on the 20 minutes in between picking them and eating, although I did toast them prior to eating. The cheese dip was orange and felt plain to me. I added some salsa to it for added flavor and texture, and much needed spice. Overall I would go back for the cheese and bean pupusa. The prices were very affordable.

a no frills shop, this place serves inexpensive but generously portioned food. there was plenty of flavor in the beef and the chicken.

Chicken salad w/ the best dressing.

A true hidden gem! This family-owned restaurant is the real deal--authentic, fresh, and consistently delicious. Every dish tastes homemade and full of flavor. The owners are incredibly kind and welcoming. Telma (the owner) goes above and beyond--if you don't see something on the menu, she'll happily create it for you. If you're in DC and craving genuine Hispanic food, Benito's is an absolute must-visit! Even though I live in Florida now, I make it a point to stop by every time I'm in town. To bad they don't DoorDash or Uber Eats to FL

Such a cute family-owned place with traditional and delicious cuisine and great service!

Sopa/caldo de res y una pupusa revuelta ( chicharrón y queso)

Chicana from South Texas here. I ordered the sopa de res, not exactly Mexican style caldo de res but it was still delish. The pupusa revuelta (chicharrón con cheese) with cabbage curtido was yummy. Glad I visited in person rather than ordering online. Location was in a safe neighborhood. Highly recommend to people craving Tex Mex/Mexican since there isn't much else out here. Food is authentic. Not a fancy restaurant, but food is delish.

The food here is excellent! My friend and I were trying to go to Chaplins but it was closed so I went on yelp and saw this place was close by. It's a small place and there's 1 table outside. It was nice outside so we decided to sit out there and people watch. I got the sopa de res and it was so delicious! It was a large bowl and it came with like 2 pieces of beef and veggies. I wish there was more beef though. I also got the beans and cheese pupusa which was really good. The food was really filling and they also had drinks like beer and margaritas. If Freiburg come here again next time I'm in dc.

Want to start off by saying the staff is amazingly friendly; super nice, clearly family-run, and just trying to serve good food. Really appreciate them! I got my order to go, and started with a loroco and cheese pupusa. I'm still not 100% sure what loroco is, and honestly the taste didn't super stand out. The pupusa overall was decent; good flavor, but I don't think the takeout did any favors, as it got a bit soggy rather than the crispiness the char would otherwise indicate. I also got the pepian stew. My first time having this, and it was really interesting. Huge chunks of meat on bone, but it was unfortunately not super tender and had decent amounts of fat on it, which made for a rather difficult eating experience. The root vegetables in the stew were super yummy, but the flavor also wasn't super powerful in any way. Just overall pretty mild, despite the aggressive coloring. Super happy to support a local business, but the food was just decent! I'm sure if I had eaten it there, everything would have been better though

Queso - skip

I was excited to try this hole in the wall place. - We came post work out and it was easy to find a table in the morning. We ordered "queso" but it felt more like velveta then your typical Central American Queso. I ordered the breakfast plate and it was amazing, the plantains, beans, and sour cream all tasted like home. Bonus not posted is the Hibiscus Tea, if you get anything, get the tea.

Caldo De Res (Sopa de Res), highly recommend!

Great Honduran food in the city. Try the baleada con carne. They are my favorite. Not much English but they are nice and it's not hard.

The decor is simple, no table clothes or frills but it does live up to 'fine cuisine' with excellent food and presentation (another subtle touch is if you leave the table, you return to a nicely folded napkin). We got nearly everything on the menu including all the desserts and Mexican hot chocolate (yum, lightly spicy and piping hot!) . As others have said their guacamole is excellent...do check the charges though bc they added salsa and chips to the tab which we did not order (they removed). Also, the first order of guac came with big bowl of chips, but none with the second order of guac- not a problem though because you do not go hungry. Portions are quite generous. We even tried the ants which was a fun novelty

There was a rose and a candle on the table (vday vibes) and we also received a vday specials menu. We landed on queso fundido to start and a cocktail each: prickly pear marg for her, a viva mexico for me. After fundido'ing it up, we ordered our entrees. We're simple folks it was a 2 carne asada tacos, 1 al pastor taco, 1 pescado taco, and 1 chicken quesadilla. Unfortunately we weren't bold enough to try the insectos. Food was great, drinks were great, service was great. You can pay your tab via Toast for no additional fee which was convenient. There are two, single use bathrooms in there too. Overall, solid spot.

The service was excellent and accommodating. I was impressed because I know large groups can be difficult to wait on, so was very pleased with the service and how quick they were to get our orders in and us served. We ordered a variety of appetizers, such as the the empanadas, calamari, and garlic shrimp. My favorite items were the empanadas and calamari, which were extra tasty with the accompanying sauces. We also ordered a variety of grilled meats, including the two large Parrillada meat platters and picanha . The accompanying sides we tried were the fries, cheese rice, fried yucca, and plantains. I really liked the plantains, but the cheese rice was not was I expected. It was more like grits than cheesy rice. The meats were cooked to how we requested it, and of course tastes especially good with the sauces. My favorite cuts were the strip steak, beef rib, and picanha. I didn't really care for the sweet breads, but that is a personal preference. Value wise, the Parrillada platters could easily feed 4 - 5 people, so we had plenty of leftovers. I would definitely recommend checking out La Estancia if you enjoy grilled meats!

Perfectly fried and sauces were so good. Yellow curry rockfish - 9.5/10. I love that they arent afraid to actually use curry! The tenderloin was so tender too!! And the taro cake very interesting, in a good way. A true stand out was the guava cheesecake - absolutely incredible and nothing like you'd think it would be. I love it when restaurants are super creative with food and the play on flavors were top tier during this meail. We also ordered a bottle of the Chilean sauvignon blanc, which paired perfectly with the food and stood on its own with the tenderloin. I enjoyed my drink though. - we were recommended by our waiter to get around 4-6 dishes depending on how hungry we were. We opted for 7R ceviche, cheese arepitas, Latin falafel, and seafood jalea. I will say everything tasted so freaking good (with the exception of the falafel because they were on the drier side) but those portion sizes i would expect a little more for pricing - I will also add a side note they were providing sampling of a pumpkin soup. Did j like it? No. Did i appreciate it the ability to say i tasted it and didn't have to pay for it? Yes - we also were greedy and went in for desserts: banana bomb and chocolate and Ron. The banana bomb SOOOOO good! The chocolate and ron was more on the forgettable side. Despite the portions, the food was so good I'd come back in a heartbeat. I would love to see the seasonal things they come up with!
