This place is very okay. I've gone twice now, getting the papusas on recommendation from yelp and the eater, and a torta on the recommendation of the waiter. And they aren't bad but they just aren't anything special. I mean you can probably find better within a half mile radius. The torta in particular was a chicken sandwich and the chicken had a massive bone in it, which is weird given that it's a sandwich. Best Hondurean food!! The food was fresh and delicious. The food was made on the spot that's why is fresh! No stomach pain. They have all kind of dishes. The horchata and the tajadas con carne were on point! If you want to have a Hondurean cuisine experience this is the place to go. The decoration is folkloric and pretty. Clean place. I am Honduran and I'm always looking for food from my homeland. I came with my friends from NY and we were all very happy and satisfied. Fresh ingredients and quality of food. Benitos place is amazing, a hidden gem in the city. I got their fried chicken and got a made to order delicious crispy half bird. Since it is made to order, the wait time was 25 minutes but totally worth it. The dish came with a side of fried plantains with a mayo cabbage salad. Great under the radar find! Small family run restaurant focusing on Honduran, Guatemalan and Mexican fare. I ordered the pollo frito and the baleadas. This is a hidden gem in Shaw and I am almost hesitant to write this review as I want it to keep it a secret! Benitos is DELISH. My husband and I frequent this place for both dining in and for take-out. We always start with the fresh - and I mean fresh as in they bake them so you must wait a few minutes - chips and salsa! Totally worth the wait. We often split the combo fajitas - HUGE portions with the best rice and beans around. I recommend ordered extra rice :) Great service - do not expect bells and whistles. Their seasoning is so on point, tastes like you are visiting someone's family for Sunday lunch, also (the best part) very consistent food. The Pupusa was so cheesy and delicious My girlfriend had the fajitas, the steak was perfect and very flavorful, the only downside was that the tortilla detracted from the flavor in he fajitas case. It's a bit of a hole in the wall - there are only about 10 small tables in front of a counter. Our waitress was incredibly sweet and took our drink order and food order quickly, though it took the food a little while to come out. The margaritas were yummy and give you a fairly decent buzz, but where this place really shines is the food. I think I ordered a chicken taco, but what I got was unlike any chicken taco I've ever had before. It was crispy and rolled with a delicious sauce and texture and I couldn't get enough!! My friends also loved their food, although unfortunately I don't remember what they ordered. The Spanish rice was also delicious. My birthday was over a month ago and I've been thinking about the food at Benitos nonstop - enough to write this review weeks after I had their delicious food. Sitting down to eat, my only complaint would be the sheer number of delicious sounding choices on the menu! My boyfriend and I both settled on beef baleadas, and absolutely LOVED the food. It was perfectly seasoned, a delicious flavor profile, and a generous portion size that was incredibly reasonably priced. Benito's son was charismatic, friendly, and very generous in asking us about our experience, as well as asking us to come back so that he can pick something new off the menu for us to try. They also had old standbys (read: Americanized tastes) like nachos and fajitas. The owner and his staff are very friendly and glad to have new customers. First and foremost, I love this place. So happy I was finally able to make it. The pastelitos are to die for. You can tell that someone took their time to make these right. I felt like I was in Hondruas on a street corner or at a bus station eating these. The horchata is amazing. I prefer it to the Jamaica. I had the Pollo Frito and it came with fried green bananas. And I also ordered a single steak taco, comes with the traditional corn tortillas...not sure if flour is an option. Still delicious! But it all was done well. Very flavorful. Benito's was an accidental find for me. I was headed for the chinese carryout next door. It smelled great. So I yelped it. 5 stars and salivating reviews changed my lo mein longing into a Honduran torta and taco craving. The sweet pretty young lady let me taste the tamarind and hyacinth drinks. Both were just right tart and not sickly sweet. And the serving was a decent 20 oz for just $2.50. I NEVER drink sugar, but gulped the entire drink down. The chips were nice and hot ! Whole perfect pieces - not broken, bottom of the bucket, pieces. They would have looked better in maybe a wood boat ? instead of the faux basket plastic boat. The salsa... ohhh ma ga-ga ! Better then sex ! (Oooh don't tell my husband !) I am sure the mamma cook who brought it out to me made it to order. I loved the 3 footed ceramic dish it was served in. A great salsa deserves a worth vessel. It was medium hot - my husband would have died :) - he's not asian ! or from central America ! I loved the tiny crisp white onion bits, tomato mini-chunks, miso soup slices of spring onion and blended jalapenos? Tomatillos? I wonder what the secret recipe is ? Oooh ! ... the beef tacos I ordered for my husband were even better. Yeahhh... ;) ...only 1 taco made it out the door to my husband ;) I just had to break into the bag ;) Ok my thumbs are getting sore - I'd better wrap it up... with a Honduran fried beef sandwich ! Yummyee ! Lettuce, tomatoes, hot sauce, shredded cheese and a crispy kind of like chicken fried steak minus the breading - was delish! And too big. I could only eat a third...and not because I filled up on salsa, chips and one of my husband's tacos. Tried this place for dinner tonight and got takeout. Our food was absolutely fantastic! My boyfriend got the fried chicken with plantains and cabbage slaw, and the chicken was super juicy and flavorful, and the cabbage slaw was very tasty. I got the grilled chicken fajitas, and the chicken was cooked so well, and the corn tortillas it came with were so fresh and delicious. The highlight, however, were the pupusas. Best we have had in the city. The owner said this restaurant is fairly new and doesn't always get very busy, so please come check this place out and keep it in our neighborhood!
