Had a nice celebration lunch today in the bar and lounge area. We ordered the Benihana Trio. Really enjoyed it- several courses, all prepared to perfection. Servers Abby and Jasmine took great care of us. We talked for a bit with the manager, Roger. It's nice to meet managers with such enthusiasm for their work! Also had great interactions with the staff. Well done. read more

Benihana is our go to spot for family gatherings and birthday celebrations! My family of 6 came here last night for my brothers Birthday dinner and had a wonderful time. Chef Ernesto kept us entertained with his skillet/performance as he cooked up our dinner. Most of our group ordered the seafood Diablo special as the spicy sauce is to die for and really brings the heat! I got a seafood trio that included calamari, shrimp, and scallops, the perfect seafood combo! We Ofcourse upgraded our meals to get the chicken fried rice starter as it's so buttery and yummy. Overall, service was great for the restaurant being packed. They have raised their prices since we last dined here, but we understood as everywhere has been raising prices. read more

Had a reservation for 7:30pm, the hostess informed me they were running an hour behind. Received a call that the table was finally ready at 8:20pm when we walked into the restaurant to be seated- she said they gave the table away and would have to wait another 15 minutes. No apologies or empathy. Hostess had a it is what it is look on her face with no desire to solve the issue. Never coming back and telling others to avoid this place. read more

We visited on a Sunday afternoon when the restaurant was quite busy, but we were seated in the bar area fairly quickly. They offered the Taste of Benihana menu ($39.00) in the bar, which was an excellent option. The portions were so generous that after enjoying the soup, salad, and appetizer, I ended up taking most of my entrée to go. Our waitress, Tiffany, provided outstanding service--she was attentive, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. The manager, Herman, also stopped by to check on us, ensuring we had a great experience. His attentiveness and kindness added to the overall positive impression. I would definitely return to this location! read more

Made a reservation for Father's Day at 5:30 and we were sat right on time regardless of how busy it was. This place does a great job at keeping up with wait times. Our server Marium was so sweet and hospitable, and our hibachi chef Jorge provided an amazing and entertaining show! I ordered their Hibachi Salmon with Avocado Tartar and I loved the noodles that came with it. It was a great addition to the salmon! The tartar sauce was so good I had to ask for extra to-go. I would definitely order this again. Drinks are slightly on the lighter side, so be prepared to spend $$ on drinks if you're a heavyweight. Eh, it's been some years since I've been here. Unfortunately they prices went up and the entertainment and service went down. At least the food is still decent. Although I would have been happier if I went to Hana Japan instead. There's not much to say about this place except that you're paying for the entertainment of your food being prepared in front of you. This guy barely did any of that; at least the food was okay. It seemed the table next to us was having a great time. Maybe our chef was having an off day. read more

Food was good. Service was great! Ambiance was fun with the cook. Came here for our anniversary.

It was our first time visiting the Concord location. The restaurant is bright and was buzzing with people when we arrived. We were seated promptly after checking in for our reservation. The staff here is super friendly but there is an opportunity for management to adjust their staffing. In some areas, there were servers folding napkins and other sections where the staff were running around trying to ensure their tables were tended to. I don't blame the staff. They were doing the best they could. Our drinks room 20 minutes and it was just beer and wine. Our chef wasn't available so we sat for over an hour. Again, they tried their best and once the food came it was what you would expect at a Benihana. I chalk it up to a bad day but it will be awhile before I'm back to this location. read more

Such a nice nice experience with the Chef, he was so sweet and kind to us and the server was cool too. The only thing that really hurts was the bathroom first stall, I was locked in for 2 mins until a sweet Filipina walked in and kicked it open for me. I went to use the bathroom before h left and this time went into the 3rd stall, within 3 mins 3 different people opened the door while locked ! Unacceptable, and I couldn't give it bad stars just because of this because they were very very nice and kind I was just frustrated it happened so many times. Thank you for being kind overall read more

Made a stop for lunch yesterday at Benihana for savory and delicious food. Always a treat and feel's special when you can watch them personally make your food . Tip for ya . Lunch specials especially the lunch duet gets you a good price on 2 items . So more bang for your buck and great show . Reservations are recommended but not needed . Started off with the watermelon fish bowl. This set the mood . Beef julienne and scallops was my choice along with chicken fried rice x2 ( appetizer with one ) IYKYK. Garlic buttered down on everything ‼ Salad pre meal always good ginger dressing included . Veggies with the meal is also a treat so fresh . My only problem sometimes is the group you may be sitting with because it's random . Sometimes trying to engage and have a good time can be a lil much for folks . Please sit at the bar !! The prices were ridiculous. How can a family afford to go here? The little knife show is unnecessary imho. Even if the prices were half what they are, I can think of many fine dining restaurants that are much better bets. read more

Wow! I've been to many Benihana restaurants since it's a chain and this one is surely my most favorite to date! The line to dine is superbly long here and I can see why! Service is top notch and the entertainment, they make it more than the standard - special to say the least. Our chef did the norm of presentation, usual onion teepee, egg toss, and then some! I adored the Mickey Mouse shape for the fried rice and the happy face! Our chef made it special than the usual routine. Food was delicious. Adored the vibes here surely. I see why it's endlessly packed here. read more

I was glad that Benihana was open on Christmas Day and taking reservations, but upon arrival for my 6pm reservation the lobby was overcrowded with people standing shoulder to shoulder waiting to be seated. I felt sympathy for the staff doing the best they can, but clearly the reservations were overbooked. They also didn't have an efficient way of calling people's names to be seated. You could barely hear them. Please implement either a texting system to notify people when their table is ready, or a tablet near check in with a list of names ready or next for seating for us to see. At 6pm they were just starting to seat 5pm reservations. With a 6pm reservation, we didn't get taken to our table until 6:45, and didn't get to eat any food until 7:15. I skipped lunch in preparation for a big early dinner, so I was very hungry. The food itself was delicious and our chef was great, which is why I'm giving more than 1 star. Our server made a mistake and I didn't get the fried rice I ordered. He also knocked over a nearly full drink all over a kid sitting at our table. Even though I liked the food, I will not return until the reservation system is upgraded, no longer overbooked, and new reviews come in saying that wait times have improved. read more

Benihana Concord, CA Reviewer: R. James Location: Rancho Cordova, California I recently had an outstanding experience at the Benihana in Concord, California, and I want to personally recognize the manager, Roger, for exceptional leadership and customer service. It's rare to encounter someone who takes such pride in making sure every guest has a great experience from start to finish. Roger's professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine care for customers truly stood out. I was so impressed that I took the time to send a formal letter of commendation to Benihana corporate, because service at this level deserves to be acknowledged. Roger represents the brand at the highest level, and experiences like this are exactly why I will continue to return. Great service should never go unnoticed--and Roger sets the standard. Sad to write this review. I am utterly disappointed in our last visit to Benihanas in Concord. We have been here many times before as a couple but this time was our first time with our kids. I was so excited for them to have their first Teppanyaki experience, only to be left very disappointed. The food was good which is why I gave two stars. We were happy we got a private room, very nice. But the overall experience was the worst!! Everyone was polite, that wasn't the issue. For context, it was my daughter's birthday and she was so excited for this. Our chef gave little to no effort, literally no type of show at all whatsoever. He cooked, cut and served. The waiter was so dry like he was forced to be there. I had to walk up to the front desk to ask if they could sing my daughter happy birthday, which I've also never had to do before. The host then proceeded to tell me I had to let my waiter know (I found that quite odd but I did so anyway). From past experiences, when you first arrive they ask if you're celebrating anything because towards the end of your meal, they usually come out themselves but that did not happen. The waiter brought the ice cream after I told him of course and just handed it to us with such a blank stare. He seemed in a hurry to get out of there which was annoying. We ended up just singing happy birthday ourselves. Ugh. I'm frustrated just thinking back at it. My poor baby still had a smile on her face trying to make the best of it all, unaware that this was not normal Benihana behavior. I wanted so bad for this to go well as our kids first time there and as a birthday meal like come on!!! read more

Tbh. F this place. We have been coming here for 28 years, 28 YEARS! We only come here on special occasions, so at least 3 to 4 times a year. The last 4 times have been ATROCIOUS. We reserve the table 2 to 3 weeks ahead of time and wait an HOUR for a table at least. The last time we came here (tonight) they sat us at an overcrowded table when they had 4 other tables ready that I saw. They didnt even have a place settings for us and had to bring in more chairs. Zero elbow room for a dinner that cost over $300 for the family is absolutely ridiculous. When we complained to management we were told to "calm down" and they didnt even try to make it right. We walked out. F this place. It's gone absolutely downhill. And for the price range that these meals cost we would expect to be treated much better since we are customers. We will be taking our business elsewhere from now on and i suggest you do the same. Benihana concord is absolute trash. Also, don't leave anything in your car. People will break in and steal your stuff. read more

Ruined my christmas dinner. Had reservations at 6:45. I had very little to eat all day, expecting to have a nice big dinner. When we came to check in, we were told they were behind 45 minutes. Isn't this why people make reservations, to avoid a wait?! Deciding to stay was a terrible idea. At 7:30, I checked what was happening and they seemed confused and completely disorganized. They sat us at some random table next to the takeout counter. Within minutes, 2 different waiters came to bring us food that wasn't ours. No one came to start our order. We realized if we stayed, it was going to be another long wait. So we just left. Terrible and never again. read more

Very disappointing experience at Benihana. I came in using the $30 birthday certificate they sent me and still spent about $70, only to receive terrible service. The restaurant wasn't busy, yet my server forgot basic things multiple times. She brought my sushi and said she would bring soy sauce but never did--I had to ask another employee walking by. She also forgot to bring me a fork for my food and never came back with one. Meanwhile, she was standing by the bar laughing and talking with coworkers instead of checking on her tables. I come to Benihana often and spend money here, so this was extremely frustrating. The manager apologized, but nothing was done to accommodate the situation. Definitely not the level of service you'd expect here. read more

I placed an online curbside order and my receipt said food would be ready at 7pm. I arrived at 7:05 and clicked the "Im Here" on my email confirmation and it then says someone will be out shortly. 7:20 I call and the rep said he notified the team and someone would be out. It's now 7:30 and I park, go inside to the Togo section and the girl said she was putting my order in and to give it another 10-15 mins because she was by herself and they were busy. I told her I did all the online prompts and automated system that kept saying would be out and the girl said those online prompts for Benihana don't get sent to her and she didn't know I was outside until I walked inside. I left outside waited some more and went back inside at 7:45 and my food was ready. I feel bad for the young girl working alone as she definitely needed some help. I hadn't been to Benihana for over 14 years most likely at this point. I came here with co workers for a going away lunch for one of them. The staff was friendly and the cook we had was great. The food is just kinda so and so. It wasn't something that blew my mind. The fried rice was great, the noodles with shrimp was ok, but didn't have a lot of taste. It's very much a spot to go to for the experience, but for the most part it isn't largely a place I'd be craving to go back to. read more

We used a birthday certificate that we received by e-mail - it was for $30 off after spending $30 for dinner Monday-Thursday. There are a few restrictions on the the certificate, so be sure to read the conditions. We made a reservation on a Monday and were seated within a few minutes of arrival. Our chef did a few showy things, but nothing too over the top. The meals here are a little pricey. so the $30 off really helps. We ordered the Surfside and the Hibachi Steak. They were out of calamari but asked if we wanted to substitute in shrimp for the calamari (no big deal). The food was good and everything cooked just right. The flaming onion volcano was the photo highlight. Overall, this place is just what we expected. read more

Made a reservation for 9 people at 6:30, entire party was there by 6:20, & checked in. Told 4-5 tables in front of us. 30 minutes later, still no table & still 5 groups in front of us. Waited until 7:30 still not called to sit. Left & ate somewhere else. Got a call while we were already seated at another restaurant. Just celebrated my son's 11th birthday here for a party of 8. Yes, it is pricey. But really for the chef entertainment and portions it is worth it. Thankfully we had reservations because it was PACKED. Even with reservations, we waited 10 minutes to be seated and there was a lag between seating, ordering and the arrival of food, around an hour after our reservations we were finally eating. We were ok, though, because our kids are a little older. It would be more challenging with toddlers/young kids. We loved our chef. He was such a pro and even my unimpressionable husband agreed the show takes a lot of preparation. My son LOVED his birthday dinner. He felt so special with the dessert, song and attention. He normally shies away from the spotlight, so to see his big genuine smile was all we needed. Overall service was very good/friendly. Only thing is it did take a little long for condiments and water refills to arrive. And yes, the original lag in the beginning. But again it was packed on a Saturday nite before Christmas so not too surprising. read more

February 28th is my husband's birthday. Our lovely daughter usually takes us out every year. Last year, 2025, we celebrated at Benihana in Walnut Creek. We were a party of eight, five adults and three quiet but very hungry children. We received our menus right away decided what we wanted to eat and waited, and waited. Our drinks came in 1/2 hour after begging twice. Our server didn't show up AT ALL! They kept making excuses saying he was stuck in traffic. Not our problem!!! Everyone around us ate and left, meanwhile the children were getting cranky. After 1 1/2 hours and more complaining they finally got a different waiter to serve us. He left out all the sauces, the garlic butter for the rice, and most of the food was cold because they refused to turn down the air conditioner that was blowing full blast on us in February. When we asked for the missing sauces they said they had no such things, although all the other tables had them. My daughter who is a General Manager at a restaurant herself kindly talked to the manager and explained what had happened and he blew it off. We had a $700+ bill and left the mandatory tip for a party of eight. Benihana had always been a family fun restaurant that we had been going to since the 90's, but in San Jose, never again in Walnut Creek. Please find another town to visit this lovely establishment because the management and staff only care about the bottom line and NOT customer service! read more

The place itself is not what I remember it as. It's gross, ghetto and run down and a bit smelly. Sometimes it's fun I guess with a large group but in hindsight it's really NOT worth the price. My girlfriend and I made a reservation for 7:30 p.m. (Saturday, January 31). We checked in about 2-5 minutes before the reservation time and were told we'd be seated shortly. We gave up just past 8:10 p.m. We overheard the manager/host tell waiting customers that checked in after us that there was a 45 minutes before the delay on reservations, yet every time we inquired about when we would be seated, he'd reply something along the lines of coming up next or soon. We overheard customers complaining about 40+ minutes waiting for the chef to come after soup or salad was served and still hadn't come yet. We also overheard some things about reservations that were around an hour late that were being waited on, and customers who were walk-ins that were getting priority over reservations. I should be FAR more upset tha I already am. This is absolutely unacceptable, not to mention we drove all the way from Sacramento to celebrate our anniversary at the Concord Benihana, which is the nearest to our home. We absolutely love Benihana and used to go all the time when we had one in Citrus Heights. We've been to others in the Bay, as well as in Phoenix a couple years ago during a friend's wedding. I haven't been to Benihana in over 10 years. The knock offs are better at this point. $30 for lunch is not my favorite and the "show" is old news. They asked if we had bdays and we did but nothing special happened despite being asked by the server and the chef. The ambiance at lunch is empty. The other people there were on their phones while the cook was doing the "show". The steaks were super thin. $30 per person at lunch equals way more options I suggest somewhere else. read more
