Chino's hidden gem! Everyone go try Bengee Sushi! We were in Chino over the weekend for some board games and randomly searched for a lunch spot nearby. Ended up at Bengee Sushi and... wow. Completely exceeded expectations. I honestly didn't know Chino had such solid Japanese food We both ordered their Lunch Specials -- around $25 each, which is such a great deal. Since I'm not a big tempura person, we skipped the bento boxes and went straight for the good stuff. We got one Chirashi Bowl, and the moment it came out we were shocked. So much sashimi! Thick cuts, super fresh, and none of that fishy leftover-trim vibe. The sushi rice underneath was really good too -- not overly sweet or sour, just balanced. The other dish we ordered was the Sashimi Lunch, and again, super generous portion with way more variety than I expected. No shortcuts, no skimping. It also comes with miso soup and salad, both clean and tasty. We added hot tea, which hit the spot on a colder day. That feeling of "randomly picking a place and accidentally finding a great spot" is honestly unmatched They also offer a $79 omakase, plus a more premium $135 one (reservation required). After seeing how generous they are with their lunch portions, I'm definitely coming back for that next time. In short: amazing value. Bengee Sushi was such a wonderful experience! From the moment we walked in, the hostess welcomed my husband and me with the warmest hello, which immediately set the tone for the evening. The fish is incredibly fresh and absolutely on point. You can really taste the quality in every bite, especially paired with the fresh wasabi. The Kumamoto oysters were fresh and delicious, and the yellowtail carpaccio topped with radish sprouts truly made the flavors pop -- such a perfect balance and presentation. The edamame was fresh as well, though I would have loved a bit more garlic saturation for an extra punch of flavor. That said, everything else was outstanding. Found this place on Yelp and saw all the good reviews so I figured why not try it. Honestly kinda disappointed. Service was super slow waited like 40 mins just for my 23-piece sashimi plate. The ikura itself took 30 minutes and it wasn't even fresh, I haven't had tasteless ikura like that in so long and the color wasn't bright red. The fish was just okay. Nothing special, kinda mid. We also got the tornado curry rice and that was a let down too. The curry was super watery and just didn't have much flavor at all. What really got me was the service. The place only had like 5 tables so I really don't get what the holdup was. Once they dropped off the last item, they never came back to check on us. Had to literally say "excuse me" like 3 times just to get more ginger and wasabi because the 2 ladies working wasn't paying attention at all. Overall, food was mid and service just wasn't it. One of the best creamy sea urchin udon pastas I've ever had. So creamy & delicious. I was a little sad that the portion was small because I probably could've ate 2 whole plates. So good. Ordered the super salmon roll with miso soup. The miso soup was flavorful or warm and even filling. The super salmon roll was one of the most disappointing pieces of sushi I've ever had. The rice wasn't sticky or chewy just wet and stuck together if that makes any sense. The salmon on the outside was fine, I suppose you could say it was fresh, but it lacked flavor. Honestly this place was one of my favorites when they first opened, but ever since they changed management, their service went down. There's this one female server (I think she's the only one) that has pretty bad attitude. I ordered 2 spicy salmon rolls (1 for here and 1 to-go) thinking it would just be a normal spicy salmon roll, but for some reason it came with tempura flakes crunched up inside. I don't like fried things so I was automatically taken aback at this new change. I immediately thought of the spicy salmon roll I ordered to-go and called the server over to modify it with no tempura flakes. She looked awkwardly over her shoulder at the sushi chef and said something in Chinese and told me "Oh it's already done." She had this judgemental weird look on her face and walked away. I felt like it would've been nice to at least try to accommodate my preferences. There was just no concern about my question and I felt disregarded. It made my whole experience here very disappointing and I lost my appetite. A few minutes later she brought my to-go order to me and I checked inside- there were 8pc total. I thought about it and decided that I wasn't going to make a big deal out of the whole tempura flake thing. I called the server over again to order another spicy salmon roll WITHOUT tempura flakes to-go. The server took my order and gave it to me shortly after. I checked the bag and saw 6pc of what looked like a soggy roll. I waited a bit before calling for the server again and asked her why this roll has 6pc and the previous roll has 8pc. She said something about it being 6pc since there are no tempura flakes and went to ask the sushi chef again. They spoke in Chinese again since it seemed like she was worried I would understand her (in fact, I do speak Chinese so yes I understood every word). She turned back to me and repeated the same reasoning a few more times. It really didn't make sense to me but I was tired of her attitude and the whole experience so I just nodded and said okay. On a side note, this server was SUPER nice to the table behind us (they spoke Chinese) and kept going over to recommend them dishes & sauces. For my table, she was very bland and uninterested in us. Bengee Tornado Omurice - Main reason we came, I was craving a tornado omurice dish, but this place ups the level so much. The kimchi and pork belly inside gave it so much flavor that I couldn't help but eat scoop after scoop. Seafood Yakiudon - While the omurice was our main reason for coming, this dish was the winner for us. I couldn't help it when I saw the description and I'm a huge sucker for udon. I was not expecting the amount of flavors this had. They're also pretty generous about the amount of seafood added as well, really fair with the price. I've been wanting to go back hust for this. Bengee House Special Combo - If you're looking to add some rolls to your meal and you're going with one other person, this dish is a good choice because there's two of each kind of roll, so you're able to evenly split them. I'm not a fan of eel in general, but the salmon and shrimp nigiri with their different kind of sauces made a great impression on me. The staff here are very friendly and patient while you go through the menu. It was a bit hard to decide because everything just sounded so good. I want to start off by saying this is a beautiful establishment. You can't really tell from outside but once you step inside, its pretty nice. Even the menu is fancy! As for food, I felt like a lot of it was bland. The chicken gyoza didn't come with any sauce and the filling just didn't much taste. The curry tornado omlet was very bland to me. The chicken was cooked good, the veggies was good & the egg was okay but the curry overall lacked flavor to me. The sea urchin udon was decent but I've had better. Service was ok. I don't know if its because I'm not asian or what, but the lady was giving me rude vibes. Maybe it was a language barrier but I did not feel welcomed. Just a friendly reminder -- if you want omakase here, it's best to call and reserve in advance. Picked up a big order for my brother's birthday today, it was my first time trying them out. I looked at reviews and thought this restaurant was nicely rated so I gave it a shot. They close after lunch so I placed an order to be ready by 5:30pm. When I arrived I was immediately greeted by a gentleman and he brought out our order and let us know everything was in there with individual sauces. Once we got home and opened up everything, it looked very presentable even for takeout, I was impressed. Now for the taste test, we tried out about 7 different rolls. They were all very fresh and delicious. My favorite was the hot night roll. I always get an Alaska to try out the salmon, this place was very good. I will say the spicy garlic edamame was not my favorite, normally it is served warm, this was very cold and I couldn't taste much garlic. Other than that, everyone loved the sushi. For food, the sashimi is fresh and the rice, oh bay, the rice might just be the best sushi rice I have ever had in the inland empire area. For the service, they are super friendly and kids friendly. They don't constantly bother you but just bring you whatever you need on the table, and in my case, the napkins, since I have two kids with me at the time. Tried Bengee Sushi in Chino last week and really loved it! The space is nicely decorated, and the food was on point. We had a variety of sushi -- salmon, halibut, red snapper, torched crawfish roll, and the creamy shrimp roll -- all super fresh and flavorful. While in Chino Hills for the evening, my friends and I decided to give this place a try. We were seated immediately on a Saturday night, with no wait, which was a pleasant surprise. We ordered the lemon salmon roll, mango salmon roll, salmon carpaccio, and tornado omurice. The rolls were decent but nothing remarkable. The imitation crab, in particular, tasted like something you'd find in supermarket sushi, which made the dishes feel more ordinary. Overall, the food lacked a unique touch--everything felt like something I could easily make at home. The lemon salmon roll was the exception and the standout of the meal, though. The tornado curry omurice was fine, but again, nothing special--it tasted like a homemade curry. The salmon carpaccio, however, was my favorite--very buttery with thick, tender slices. The service was decent, though the staff seemed like they were still settling into their routines. This didn't bother me too much, but it did contribute to the overall feeling that things were a bit disjointed. Food 2/5 Tempura - BAD, we couldn't even finish it. My vegetables were too charred and bitter. Tempura batter should be light/crunchy/fluffy but this was oily/soggy/thicc af. The fish was indeed pretty fresh and the presentation was beautiful. All the shellfish lacked sweetness and wasn't as fresh as the fish, but it was decent. Chefs nigiri - same as above but the rice was a bit under seasoned (no subtle taste of vinegar or sweetness) but the rice softness/doneness was spot on. Ambiance 2/5 Our corner smelled like piss. It was very unpleasant like we were eating in a dive bar. The sushi chef is also the DJ, not his fault we didn't like the music but it was sometimes too loud and sometimes too soft (he kept tinkering with it). Service was fine no complaints there. But we won't be coming back. Btw, I think this is a chinese owned establishment, not authentic Japanese. I've lived in chino hills my whole life and noticed that this location has always been a forever changing sushi spot (previously kula & kiku sushi). Once bengee initially opened I had no interest. After the first time trying bengee a year back, I've noticed much needed interior renovations and a welcoming vibe. The food was surprisingly delicious with high quality fish and uniquely cooked dishes - like the kimchi omelette fried rice and super tuna roll. They also used to have really cool ladder sushi platings for their sushi platters! A year later to my most recent visit, I had much higher expectations that immediately got shot down. I noticed there was completely different management. We ordered hand rolls and beef udon and I noticed that the fish quality de-graded and the beef tasting a bit off (a little gamy). As for the service, don't even get me started. To keep it short, it was very biased and non-existent. Overall disappointed in what used to be a great place and won't be coming back. read more

Perhaps you should remove it from the menu or just put a reservation only for omakase. Ended up I ordered the Bengee Tornado Omurice, Chirashi bowl, and the Negitoro special spoon (the appetizer). I was expecting the appetizer to be served first; guess what, it was the last one that showed up. I was speechless. The food was just average. The server was friendly, then a little short, then friendly again. At one point I asked my boyfriend if he seemed mad because I asked for no masago on a roll. Could've been because he was the only server and may have understandably been overwhelmed. As for the food, the spicy garlic edamame was standard and good. The yellowtail nigiri was fresh and the fish was like butter. Unfortunately the fatty tuna nigiri was disappointing because both pieces of fish were stringy. I actually had to spit my piece out and thought it contained a bone at first. The Baked Scallop Roll (R2) was OK. Hot scallops on top of a cold roll underneath was a little different for us and my boyfriend didn't eat all of his pieces. First time having dinner on Christmas Day and it's pretty decent. The quality of the fish is better than some places in the area, sushi and sashimi is fresh and their pricing is pretty reasonable. The service is attentive even they only had one server. Seafood Fried Udon is very good and also their takoyaki.
