We had a great experience are Benares. We had a hard time finding the restaurant in the shopping center but we're able to find parking easily and didn't have to wait to be seated. The restaurant has a beautiful ambiance and very friendly staff. The meal was delicious, plastic free and vegan. Those may have been the best buffalo cauliflower that I've ever had. We are looking forward to going back again for more.

Benares landed in my radar screen after I enjoyed a fantastic dinner as part of a Yelp Elite Event. I decided to come back with my peeps for dinner hoping it was everything and more on a typical dinner night. Well it absolutely was!!! We started with pani puri shots which excited me because my peeps - who are big fans of Indian food - had never had them. They loved them, as did I. For dinner we had to try a wide selection of things. We had the Chicken saag (spinach sauce) , Andhra Chicken Curry, chicken tikka masala (Grlled boneless chicken simmered in fenugreek flavored plum tomato sauce), Kekda Kari (Traditional Nadan Kerala style jumbo lump crab curry, simmered in mustard and curry leaves), vegetable biryani (rice and seasoned vegetables in a tandoor pot with a dough cover, cucumber raita, and a bread basket of various flavors of naan. Every single thing was AMAZING. The chicken and crab curries were new to us all and so delicious. All of us had a cup of masala chai. I wanted lassi but I was so full by then I couldn't! This is by far one of the best Indian restaurants around. And it's worth noting that while often I find that the Indian restaurants are skimpy with the amount of protein they put in their dishes,Benares was not at all skimpy. The portions are very generous. This will be our go to for Indian from now on.

Absolutely amazing! Came here on a Wednesday night and the place was already very busy so I'm glad we got there just in time. We brought a bottle of wine and my friend and I settled night for a girls night of delicious food! I was so happy to see so many vegan and vegetarian choices! I didn't know where to look first. We started with samosa and it was amazing light and flaky not greasy at all. I had a veggie korma dish that was delectable. The naan bread was not greasy whatsoever ! My friend got a chicken dish and she said it was delicious. I already told my boyfriend he and I need to go ! If you love Indian food you must try this gem!

11/21/23 An old article from Boozy Burb about the opening of Benares came up in my hubby's inbox. Since we love Indian food we had to try it. We had a delicious meal! Service was spot on, they answered our questions and helped with selection. Fresh Lime Soda - refreshing drink Mango Lassi - a bit too thick for me but hubby loved it Tawa Scallops - delicious! my only comment, the scallops were frozen not fresh, but the spices were amazing Garlic Naan - not as garlicky as i like but still good, especially dipped in the sauces Goan Curry Shrimp - so good! the creamy sauce was different from what i usually order Laal Maans - hubby love lamb and goat, but hate the bones. This dish is boneless lamb. He loved it! I'm not a lamb fan, but the sauce was delicious. Will definitely come back when in the area.

Our second time here with parents! It's one of our best places when we are in the mood of eating authentic Indian food. Appetizers: -Banarasi kachori ( bite sized , crispy and perfectly crunchy) -eggplant chaat ( yummm this one is a must have!) -Smoky chicken ( unanimously everyone's fav, so tender and cooked to perfection) Mains: -paneer shaahi ( unexpectedly the best one out of all the other entrees) - daal makhni ( perfect taste, felt too thick which made it a bit dry) -rogan josh ( spices were very well marinated) Dessert: -rasmalai ( 3 small pieces in a big giant bowl, nevertheless delicious!!) -atom bomb ( chocolate cake with rose ice cream - generous quantity and perfect way to end the meal) For sure we will be back here soon and try new things. The place has a quiet and warm vibe to it and the staff is super nice. Must try!!!!!

So I was invited to give this restaurant a try. When I arrived I parked in the plaza lot. Walked in and was greeted and sat. The restaurant was very nice. My friend and I were served by a great group of servers and managers. We had a variety of food, but the shrimp and pepper chicken were the best! I enjoyed all the flavors and variety. This restaurant is byob. I truly enjoyed my time and my meal!

This is the best Indian restaurant in Bergen county for sure! We come here often and try different items. This time we tried Mathura aloo tikki and omg it's so amazing!!!! Definitely transported us back to India. Beetroot soup is quite comforting too - I loved the fennel seed flavor. We ordered spicy mutter paneer and loved it. Most of their paneer sabzi are great! It very much reminded of paneer sabzi from India. The service is pretty prompt and quick. The ambience is quite warm. Usually not a lot of wait time at this place.

Currently the decor isn't great but the friendly owner Raj said he would be updating the place over the next few months. Our waiter was new but he was very friendly and provided helpful recommendations. The menu is already large and Raj mentioned that they're looking to add southern Indian dishes to their current northern Indian focus. We had boneless wings, mutton, samosas, and another chicken appetizer. All of the starters were excellent, perfect mild to medium spice level. Our entrees included lamb, mutton biryani, and a chickpea dish. The biryani was a ton of food and the chickpea texture was awesome. We also had butter naan and I added a tasty mango lassi. Apparently they do a solid bar crowd on weekend nights. I would certainly return to try more dishes. Definitely a solid restaurant.

I dined here over the holidays and absolutely loved both the food and the overall experience. Some standout dishes for me were the goat dum biryani, chicken tikka masala, hakka noodles, and navratan korma. You honestly can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but these were definite favorites. Anytime I'm passing through this area, I'll be stopping by again. Seriously delicious Indian food.

It was Bengali and Maithili new year and just like we follow the tradition back in India (means eating outside), we decided to come here with our little family. The restaurant is bigger than Praana and feels more like a fine dining place. The ambience looks nice with an Indian theme. Since it was a weekday, it was not very crowded, which was good. And surprisingly, Uma was our server again--she even recognized us What we ordered: *Lamb Pepper Fry (4.5/5): Usually this dish is served dry in most places, but here it came with a little gravy. immediately I ordered garlic naan with it, and it tasted really good together. Even though I prefer it dry, this was the best dish we had. *Tawa Fish Fry (3.5/5): It was basically fried tilapia. Tasted okay, nothing special. * Chef's Special Masala Roast (Lamb): Many people seem to like this dish, but for me it was just average. The presentation was nice. It comes with a small portion of masala rice, which was actually tasty--I just wish there was more of it. Overall, the lamb gravy felt quite normal and not something special. While eating, I told Uma that in Praana there was at least one dish that really stood out, but here I didn't feel that. I would probably go back to Praana again, especially for the Meen Pollichath (Pompano fish), which I really liked. Overall 3.5/5
