Waited over 30 minutes in line only to be handed a visibly melted cone that was already dripping while the employee was still holding it. Another employee even pointed it out and told them to just give it to me anyway and MADE SURE I wasn't given a cup. I asked multiple times for a cup so it wouldn't spill. They refused. No napkins, no attempt to fix it. Within seconds, it collapsed and spilled all over my hands, shoes, and the ground. At that point, they effectively spilled chocolate all over me. I had to walk through a crowded line covered in melted ice cream while staff stood there and did nothing. Other customers had to step in to help because the employees wouldn't. The photo doesn't even do the chaotic mess justice as half of the ice cream had already fallen off, and I wrapped the cone in napkins a fellow customer gave me later on. I have chocolate ice cream all over my hands, my hair, my outfit, my shoes, EVEN IN MY SOCKS. I couldn't even get a cup or napkins from a different shop because of how much chocolate was dripping all over me, I ended up having to just toss it ASAP just to get to a restroom to get the the sticky ice cream off of me. This was completely preventable. They could have: * Put it in a cup * Re-scooped it * Given napkins * Done literally anything to help Instead, they chose not to. I called customer service and was told it would be "passed along to the owner," with no resolution. This wasn't just bad service. It was careless and unacceptable. After waiting not only a long time for the person in front of me to order but then for the lady working alone in the place to put up product instead of taking our order, we got butter pecan in a waffle cone cup. It would have been nice had she washed her hands before serving us and after not only helping the people before us and taking their germ filled payment, but then touching boxes as well as itching her nose. Very friendly service! They were out of regular cones, and I was given a large waffle cone instead (I wasn't asked, they just decided themselves)... BUT, I was CHARGED for the cone!!! I didn't want a large cone, and just because they were out of the regular cone, which is included in the price, it doesn't give them permission to use the larger cone, and then charge for it ‍ Then, even though it's a large store, there's no place to eat inside, and it was blazing hot out. OK, that's on me, but by the time I found a spot I was too far away to walk back and complain when I bit into the cone, and it was stale and not crunchy and was terrible. Then the ice cream was melting through the bottom of the large waffle cone and all over my clothes. Avoid this Ben & Jerry's! It was B&J's "Free Cone Day" yesterday, so of course I had to stop by. My friends and came late after work, so we weren't totally surprised to see the line stretching out the door of the Garage (where it's located) and almost completely down the block. However, we got in line around 7:20 and had our free ice cream by 7:35! It was really fantastic how fast the line moved and the staff located at different stops in the line helped keep spirits up offering 10% off cards and stick-on tattoos. I got the chocolate fudge brownie and was really floored by how delicious it was. The chocolate was creamy and not too rich, and the brownies were just the right amount of chewy. I loved the cone too! The perfect subtley sweet flavor to end on. As it was free, I didn't see the prices, but from other reviews it looks like a small is around $5. While it's still somewhat comparable to other specialty ice cream places like JP Licks (small is $4.40), you're better off getting a pint at the grocery store for ~$5-6. Still, I'd come back if I were in the area with friends as I think the ice cream is *vastly* superior to JP Licks. read more

I love Ben and Jerry's free cone day. Every year, they designate a day (usually near the middle of April) during which all B&J's stores nationwide provide free small ice cream cones or cups to anyone who drops by. I went today around 12:30pm and there was hardly any line. They were very efficient, with people standing by handing out menus so you could choose your ice cream flavor while standing in line, and the entire process only took about 30 seconds for them to get your order to you. I ordered the chocolate chip cookie dough in a cone, which was vanilla ice cream with chunks of cookie dough inside. The ice cream was creamy and chunky, and had a lot of texture. Can't comment on the price since I got a free ice cream, but from what I remember, a small ice cream is about ~$5, which is similar to what you would pay for a small ice cream at J.P. Licks. However, I do think J.P. Licks is better value for the money since they tend to give larger scoops. Also, since you can buy pints of B&J's at most grocery stores and convenience stores, it is usually better value just to buy an entire pint at the store instead of getting a small amount in a cup or cone. For those who love chunks in their ice cream, though, B&J's can't be beat. Almost all of their ice creams have chunks of something in them - whether it is fruit, nuts, or chocolate - and some have multiple chunky mix-ins. read more

Located in The Garage, Ben and Jerry's immerses their customers in Cambridge culture. The staff is super friendly and accommodating to allergies. As soon as I mentioned that I had a gluten allergy, the person helping me offered to scoop my ice cream from a new, clean tub. The staff was also super patient as my sister and I tried several different flavors. My favorite part about this store is that it offers many of the classic Ben and Jerry's flavors I love but also some lesser known, hard to find flavors. This location in Boston would be the one to serve this tantalizing new ice cream. According to the article that was released the Friday I got on a plane to Boston, "Taste the Lin-Sanity" consisted of vanilla ice cream, lychee honey, and fortune cookies... the thought of it sounded funny and amazing all at once... I made the cold trek to this Ben and Jerry's that Sunday... and to my surprise... SOLD OUT! The girl behind the counter said that they made a month's supply but ran out in only a few days. I like this Ben and Jerry's. They have friendly and fast service and a great location. You can hang out a Harvard Square and then duck into the garage mall for a quick cone. I recommend Bananas on the Rum. When I went I ordered a milkshake and I was a little disappionted that they try to keep it so exact. They should have a little extra to make sure the cup is filled to the top. Also the lid tried to eat my straw. You know the little pointy triangle bits. A Harvard Square staple. Love the limited edition and test flavors that occasionally come through. An early edition taste of their creme brulee made my head explode a few years ago and is still in my taste-memory. Portions are extremely generous but child-size is available to avoid brain freeze. The cone were stale and not fresh (not crunchy), even though the waffle cone is called freshly bake waffle cone. When approach the staff, they insist that the cone were made in the morning. But for those of us who might eat too much at the time of the pint-of-icecream-purchase, this might actually be a good way to make up for lack of self control. You just have to pay for it. Literally. The list of flavors is pretty impressive. You have many choices every time! They even have a few yogurt choices at all times. Last time I had half baked yogurt. Never as good as the ice cream, but still pretty tasty. There's a little part of me that feels kinda funny sitting and eating in the middle of the garage while all the chaos continues around me. It was truly meh. I think it mostly had to do with the fact that I tried the mix-it-up feature. Basically you picked two ice cream, two toppings and they mixed it up for you (kind of like coldstone... but with a machine). It was.. well, meh. It came out looking like chocolate pudding and it was very soft and spilt everywhere (which is saying something considering I got in in 40 degree weather). Plus, I paid 6 bucks for a small cup... I ended up throwing most of it away because it was way too messy and spilt all over my hands while I was walking and eating. read more

Apparently rebooting the old yelp account to share this unfortunate tale. My girlfriend had a work break just long enough for some ice cream. We ordered a small cup and paid with debit because this is the 21st Century. After many swipes of the card, Girl 1 informed us that their machine was down because Girl 2 was on the phone with the manager. That conversation continued for a while, until Girl 2 came over and continued the conversation, now over whether her conversation was actually blocking the card communication. This all took a really long time, seriously; the ice cream was melting. Finally Girl 2 got off the phone, and they tried it again. The machine was still down. At this point, they apologized for the wait and gave us the tiny, cheap cup of ice cream as a nice gesture for our wasted time, and I never wrote this review. OH WAIT. That isn't what they did! Actually they offered us a sample spoon taste, or a trip to the ATM, which wasn't possible because of work break situations. Then presumably they threw away the ice cream as we were walking out, because Lord Knows that's a much better way to run a business than offering a first (and last) time customer a token of appreciation for dealing with their poor operations. Anyway. Everyone knows what Ben and Jerry's tastes like (pretty gooood), but this place offers no reason to eat it here rather than out of the pint you buy at the bodega. My husband is a big ice cream fan, and B&J is his favorite place to get ice cream. They always offer such great flavors,and always have scoop shop exclusive flavors. I am a big fan of seven layer coconut bar (not in pint) and the new SNL flavors are delicious too. We were just here for free cone day,and the staffers were busy but still pleasant. After going to Le on Saturday it was around 7PM. I decided to get some desert and it was located close to Le's. I can't remember the last time i am here, but i definitely came here before. The price, well for some people would be expensive, for me it was in between expensive and cheap. it all depends on you value. Anyway I can't quite make up my mind but i do know i love chocolate favorite and that is what i get most of the time. I stumble into few picture on the menu that i am consider getting. A cone, or a fudge on the cup. I walked to the front counter and there are no lines. The staff was busy doing some sort of work while saying ask me any questions you may have. I was like wow good customer service. Then when i ask her some questions she seems to answer only a few words without making eye contact, just simply doing what she was doing... Oh well maybe she doesnt really want me to ask questions, maybe she just pretend to be nice... Anyway after struggling, i decided to get a hot fudge which i think part of it could be hot and part of it be cold... I told her just like the one on the picture. There are two favorite in it, i like one of the favorite not a fan of the other favorite which has a strong milk smell in it. My high school AP Stats teacher always used to talk about Guinness and how it tastes better the closer you get to where it's made. Is it good in America? Yeah. Is it good in Europe? Yeah, it's better! Is it good in Ireland? Heck yeah, it's delicious! Is it good at the factory? Ummm, yeah, it's best consumed there! I kind of feel the same way about most things, and feel that if you're getting something made in a factory, it's so much better there! While this particular Ben & Jerry's isn't in Vermont, it's close(r) at least, and therefore tastes better than say, a location in Seattle. Being a Seattle boy who spent a summer in Boston, I was on the verge of heat stroke the entire time. What saves you from dying of the heat? Ice cream. Duh. I could always, always depend on a creamy, cold and refreshing scoop of any of the wonderful flavors they have here to sooth what ailed me. While I probably might have stuck with a frosty, blended beverage from Starbucks to not only cool me but energize me, the roomie was a fan of this place and more often than not I found myself here (although there was an sbux next door). For some reason this location has better service than others... always friendly faces eager to serve customers and typically were generous with heaping scoops! Milkshakes always seemed to take forever, but they are well worth it (although I do agree with Ben L. that they could fill the cups more and that the straws are always squished from the lids!) It's Ben & Jerry's free scoop day (as in today only, errr, today only until this time next year) so y'all should gooooo! I shall credit this particular Ben & Jerry's for inspiring my craving for ice cream this season. I am not what one would call an ice cream person, I've never LOVED it, like others do. However, as I walked through The Garage one day in late February, an apparently bored Ben & Jerry's server offered me a taste of the new flavor Maple Blondie from behind the counter. I fell in love and came back for it about 3 times through April. On the hottest day of the year so far, and coincidentally, the day of Harvard Square's MayFair, I stood in line for 20 minutes to order my beloved Maple Blondie ice cream. I was crestfallen to discover it had been discontinued as it was a limited edition named for Olympian and Vermont native, snowboarder Hannah Teter! :( According to one of the sales people, Maple Blondie may still be available in cartons... I have yet to find it. Nevertheless, the damage has been done. I now officially love Ben & Jerry's ice cream and have graduated another new 2010 flavor 'Milk and Cookies' to the top of my list. It's a mix of vanilla ice cream with chocolate swirl and soft and gooey chocolate chip cookies, right in the ice cream! You can watch your portions and your wallet by getting a kid's size serving for $3.25. read more
