Belmont Shore is another reminder of why I love Southern California, LA County, and specifically LB. I can see the city really making a concerted effort to clean up the beach and maintain it. I used the restroom for the first time and it was clean, had toilet paper, and there was soap in the dispenser. All of that is very surprising for a public beach. It's generally pretty safe, but I encounter a weirdo every once in a while. People are usually working on their fitness, enjoying a brisk walk, with their kids, fishing on the pier, riding bikes, skating, or walking their pups. There are volleyball posts for courts, a restaurant/bar, and a dog beach, so something for everyone. The Fruteros and Paleteros are usually around Thu/Fri-Sun. read more

Belmont Shore Beach spans the waterfront of the Belmont Shore neighborhood in Long Beach, California. This beach is also called Granada Beach and Claremont Beach. Out here you will find the finest beach sand and, if the weather is warm and sun is shining, the beach will be busy. Moreover, there are plenty of volleyball courts for those who are into the sport. In my humble opinion, this beach is better than the one's in Santa Monica and Venice beaches. On this visit, noticed a new public bathroom from Throne Labs near the parking lot. Learned later that it is one of four in Long Beach (22 throughout LA County), that are ADA compliant and are accessible via cell phones. It's a neat idea. Noticed clearly the sign signaling that it was unoccupied. We didn't need it, but was curious how one would use their cell phone to enter. Unfortunately, as we got closer, the area nearby had some of the strongest smell of old urine I've experienced: my wife and I looked at each other, mouthed the word 'No' and high tailed it out of there. Always good times at 'horny corner,' I didn't make it. But where else can the kids play in the sand/water (with no waves) and you're ~10 feet behind them having a beer, with our having to hide it in a solo cup. Restaurant/bar with patio is literally on the beach! If you ever saw Dexter, this was the location for many of the beach scenes, so it had some Hollywood cred as well! read more

I love Belmont Shore Beach! And yes, I know, I live here and have a great view of this beach when I wake up, but this is hands down the best beach/area in Long Beach. On this beach, I take calls, read, run, or skate to get a smoothie at Portfolio Fit. It also feels pretty clean, and Belmont is known to be a safer area. Every day it's decently crowded on the walking/running and bike/skate paths. There is also plenty of free parking unless it's a hot and sunny day. There are vans and trucks where people park to sleep during the day or at night, so it does smell like pee near the spots near the beach. I also see a few people get in the water. My biggest con about this beach is that it's always super windy, no matter how hot it is outside. I feel like other beaches are more relaxed and you can catch a day where the wind is calm. Nice beach with comfortable paths for a stroll or bike ride. I came here on New Year's Day to take a walk and to watch the sunset. I've been here on multiple occasions before and enjoyed how simple, peaceful and low key this beach is. There are usually a good amount of people here but it is not overly crowded. There is an extensive sidewalk path where bikers and walkers can enjoy taking in the view of the beach during their activity. Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier is a good place to watch the sunset. Many people take their dogs here so it is very dog friendly. This beach is definitely a great place to dog watch. There were so many cute dogs and I wanted to pet them all. What's really awesome about this beach is how easy and convenient it is to find parking. There is residential parking available, free parking right outside of the beach parking lot and parking at the beach parking lot which requires payment. read more

I came here for a work event where we rode bikes with Long Beach Bike Share. My work provided us with a link to the app to get few hours of free bike ride. It is super convenient to use! We parked at 54th & Claremont Parking lot (Belmont Shore) 5400 Ocean Ave long beach ca 90803. Parking is around $2 an hour. I think this has an awesome bike path and it has lots of people strolling, jogging, or running on the path. Walking distance to lots of restaurants. this is the path we took, and I thoroughly enjoyed this route as I was able to experience lots of Long Beach at once. We started at Belmont shore, and followed the shoreline Bike path to Lion's Lighthouse at Shoreline aquatic park near the aquarium of the pacific. We then returned back to Belmont Shore long the beach bike path. This route was roughly 9 miles roundtrip. =) read more

When I used to live in Orange County, close to the Los Angeles County line, I used to go to Belmont Shore Beach to rollerblade. The long, winding bike path was a great way to get my workout at least once per week, rollerblading a little over 6 miles each time. 7 weeks ago, I came back to the area, not only to see family members, but to see Belmont Shore Beach. Free parking is available on nearby streets, and a big public parking lot has available parking, but I don't know if parking is paid or free. The biggest change in the area that I noticed is that the Olympic Pool is completely gone. Another change is that there is now a pedestrian path separate from the bike path. I think these two changes are good ones. It's good to see that the dog beach is still going strong. There were so many dogs off leash running around and having fun on the beach And it was great to see that kitesurfing was still also going strong, only this time there were a lot more kitesurfers out on the water that I was surprised there weren't any collisions. The kites were so colorful, and I just love watching them. I really dislike the sand on this beach! it's generally dirty, and this is why I didn't sit on the sand. The most I ever did was wade into the water, going in only knee deep. There is always so much seaweed pushed onto the beach by the waves, and the rotting seaweed draws the flies. The sand isn't soft, like at Newport or Laguna Beaches, but more coarse and clumpy. The water at Belmont Shore Beach is also dirty, more brownish and murky. I feel so dirty after walking out of the water, and immediately have to take a shower as soon as I can. The water is almost always choppy, and the waves are too small to surf. read more

One thing I can say about this beach is that there is a lot of sandy beach, with an extensive sidewalk area that is perfect for taking long walks. This is obviously the local dog beach because everywhere you look, there are dogs running around, frolicking in the sand, enjoying themselves. So I highly recommend coming here with your dog, if you have one (or two). Being so close to a pretty high traffic street, it's fairly quiet and peaceful when you're standing on the beach. You don't hear all the street noise. There is free street parking, which I'm sure is pretty difficult to find close to the beach on a warm, sunny summer day. read more

This beach is a little bit different from most along the gold coast. The waves are like ripples and most of the people activity is not taking place in the water but further back along the pedestrian bike paths and in the sand. Lots of volleyball matches going on and a constant stream of bodies moving up and down the coastline by various modes of human-powered locomotion. There are a couple of large parking lots and if you're lucky enough you can find a spot along the road. It's nice that they changed the parking spots from parallel to angled-in because this allows for many more spots increasing your chances of nabbing one. The beach is clean and always being groomed by the tractor crews keeping everything nice and smooth. The restrooms are clean too. read more

A few years ago they did a huge upgrade and even got rid of nightcrawlers meth heads...sadly under Brandon Administration the homeless do roam day and night nonetheless, it's so peaceful to walk,jog or walk day or night...I am walking and a bit jogging at midnight. Such disappointment what I can do now after been a super distance runner for so many years. Now, due to age and diabetes I have to burn some excess sugar in my body. If you haven't discovered these activities at the still of the night I recommend you try it out. So grab your shorts, speedoes, or commando style and get out there and exercise a little. The good: I came here and rented the blue and red public bikes to ride along the path that follows the beach. The bikes cost $7 per hour but you can get discounts as a student. The trail is super long, flat and smooth. They have a section for bikes and a separate lane for pedestrians. I had so much fun biking along this trail. It's great for skateboarding or roller skating/blading as well. I came on a Sunday and it wasn't too crowded. The palm trees here are pretty and there are grassy areas you can picnic at too. There are showers and public restrooms. The sand is white and smooth. I didn't test the waters so I don't know if there are lots of plant/debris. The bad: The parking lot smelled like piss and half of the spots said "no parking" on it. Parking isn't free. The interesting: They have a little meter along the path that counts how many pedestrians, bikers, etc. have crossed that path that day. I don't know if it's a COVID-related installation but it's pretty neat and fun to look at. read more

Lovely beach! I stumbled onto Belmont Shore Beach walking from the Naples Canals. The beach area is very close to the canals, is a more secluded shore, wide, with beautiful thin, golden sand. It's not a crowded beach, it's wide, peaceful, the Pacific isn't as rough, it has very small waves, so you might be able to swim more. Lots of kites, great to see them against the blue sky. If I'd live closer to the area, this would be my go to beach! But if you live in Long Beach area, this is a nice option! Serene beach area, you feel really secluded here, I enjoyed every minute while I hung around! read more

This beach is great! A big parking lot (if you come after 6pm, you don't need to pay for parking I think -- but verify!), clean beach, and beautiful scenery. Rosie's Dog Beach is nearby too so you can see a bunch of cute dogs, what's not to like?! If you come here around sunset, wowee is it beautiful It can be hard to find your friends if you're not travelling together so I recommend dropping a pin via Apple/send your specific location so they can find you easier. Otherwise, you will waste time walking up and down the beach and get frustrated (true story). read more

Best part of staying in a cute little bungalow in Belmont Shore? Being about five minutes (walking) way from this lovely beach. We stayed in the neighborhood for four days and walked down to the beach every day. The beach was clean with soft sand, there's a nicely paved pathway for biking (or walking, of course), plenty of parking (should you need it) and a beautiful backdrop for those epic SoCal sunsets you hear about. I have discovered how I was robbed or vandalized by the notorious seagulls. Now with Belmont Shore beach, I noticed something interesting about having dogs at the beach. Every single dog was chasing every single seagull(s) off land. LOL!! Not one seagull could land in peace to raid anyone's lunch. All the dogs were so proud to keep land safe and sound! A long & wide open beach just at the edge of Rosie's Dog Beach. There is parking on site if you'll pay, or you can park along Ocean Blvd, or on any of the many residential streets ending at Ocean. There are plenty of bathrooms, and a random paletero pushing his cart along the sand. Kinda expensive though, for single serving popsicles:P The waves here are small. The biggest crash right around knee level, and sometimes no real waves at all. To me it's perfect for enjoying the ocean without getting pummeled, or part of your bathing suit falling off...lol! The weekends get moderately crowded, but during the week not at all. I'm giving 4 stars due to the sporadic trash I've come across here at every visit. I'm a regular at the next door beaches where trash is rarely found washing up on the sand. Just wishing this beach was better at keeping trash out of the water. read more

Not the nicest beach in the area but definitely a convenient and pretty one. Great for families, groups, picnics, and even events. Waves aren't rough, low key tanning beach place. Water is cold most of the time but what can you do? I suggest to bring a blanket and towel to enjoy your time. If you have extra time go to the kayak rental place and get a 1 or 2 person kayak. I love coming here and spending the day whenever I can. It's a cool, laid back area, with great cigar lounges, restaurants and pubs. Other than the fact that parking is minimal, and quite expensive, this is a great place to come and hang out for the day. While weekends can get pretty crowded, weekdays are usually much better. In close proximity to the beach, so you can go catch some sun and end your day with a visit to any of the great restaurants or lounges on 2nd Street. If you enjoy bike riding, this is the perfect spot. Plenty of bike lanes and places to park your bikes. The neighborhood features Spanish-style homes from the 1920s and 1930s, older houses remodeled and expanded into contemporary styles, numerous large contemporary houses, and sections of multifamily apartment buildings EXPERIENCE: While roaming the streets and eating in various establishments, it was time for a little foot massage and this beach was just what the digits ordered. Belmont Shore is not a typical beach, there is sand like any other, however, there really isn't much of space to lounge, build sandcastles, play volleyball or Frisbee. Since I live in Belmont Shore, I go to this beach a lot. And when I say a lot, I mean about 5-7 times a week. I love it so much. I seldom go in the water, but I love running and biking here, especially with the new pedestrian path. The months of construction for the pedestrian path was initially pretty annoying but now that it is all done, I think it was all worth it. People here are pretty courteous and abide to the biking/pedestrian rules, which is always a plus. Exercising along this path is so relaxing and scenic. I love it. I was born and raised in Northern California and am now living in Long Beach. I like many things more about NorCal than SoCal, but this beach is what made me fall in love with Southern California. This beach is for the locals, which I absolutely love. It's not touristy at all. Even on July 4th weekend, it didn't get crazy crowded at all. I think parking is about $12 a day, but I don't know for sure since I always walk here. There are occasionally events and races here, so it's always fun to come out and see what is going on. Also, the Belmont Shore Beach is a very short walk away from 2nd Street, so access to some great food, coffee, and drinks is very convenient. Nothing beats a morning run at the beach, brunch on 2nd Street, tanning at the beach, and then happy hour in the afternoon. I know, that beach life is awfully rough! read more

This isn't a beach for you to go swim in because it is really close to Long Beach Port and that water isn't the cleanest. However, it is a great area to exercise/stroll around in. It is in downtown Long Beach off of Ocean Blvd. I frequent here a lot when my sister lived nearby and my family and I would stroll around this beach after a big family feast. Parking around the neighborhood is pretty easy to find (except on weekends/holidays) and you just make your way down the stairs (which a lot of people use to run up/down for their exercise activity). The sand is very soft and the water isn't the cleanest but you can just dip your feet in it. Lots of people go biking, running, skateboarding along the coast. The view isn't too shabby and the beach has a small pier where I saw people fishing at. read more

I love this beach, and here is why. Every single time I come here for a bike ride on the path or a walk on the walking path I come into a new adventure. Just the fact they have a bike path makes me spoiled. We can choose to walk on sand or a paved road for miles, and walking for miles is easy to do. There are CLEAN bathrooms all along the route and plenty to see. There is a huge parking lot, but if you get there early enough you can often find some hidden street parking. I was lucky and staying on the road so I could just walk down to the beach. It's not overly crowded and the stretch is huge for people to spread out. The boardwalk is great for walking, biking, skating or scooters. I come here with my kid and we (well I) enjoy it! Nice pretty ocean and sky view! No complaints. People understand the arrows painted on the pavement for the bikes as to which side of path to be on. It's common sense but we know what this means lol. I like coming here :) it's clean. read more

First time participating in the "Bears go fishing" such a wonderful event to bring the kids to. They offered free hot dog chips and water for the kids. So much information available about the different kinds of fish in the ocean. My son caught a California spike fish, the fish and wildlife immediately let us know not to touch the spikes of the fish because its poisonous! They also have a raffle with different prizes. The best feature of Long Beach, the beach itself. It's not nearly as crowded or entertaining as some of the more popular beaches, but it's great for fitness and locals. There are several sets of stairs, a running path, a bike path, grass fields, and volleyball courts. The free street parking and plentiful restrooms are cool too. read more
