Not at all surprised Bob closed his business! He was not a happy person and projected his anger and frustration on his customers- I for one put up with him thinking it was good to support a local business! I love this place! It's a true neighborhood pharmacy. Customer service is the name of their game.

The good: They did extra work to find a generic version of a drug when the easy-to-get generic did not work for me. And I have often heard the proprietor being sympathetic and helpful to people struggling with health problems. The slightly bad: The prescription refill part of their website does not work half the time. And sometimes they don't have enough of a drug to give me a full fill, so give me a partial fill and I come back later for the rest. (That's a minor nuisance, but no biggie.) The really bad: Proprietor Bob has 4 times in about 4 years suddenly become furious at me and utterly blown his top -- face beet red, very loud voice, lots of sarcasm and venom in what he was spewing. First time was during covid when I asked for a certain brand of mask, and he told me the brand I wanted was no better than what he had. I said something like "well, I read up on it and what I read pretty much convinced me, so I think I'll wait til I can find the brand I want." And he blew up at me, delivering a long, loud tirade full of sarcasm about "people who think google makes them an expert," & various "idiots" he'd had to listen to. I was stunned, but just didn't engage. Then it happened a couple more times. After the 3rd time, I decided that if it happened again I'd switch to Amazon. Today it happened again. His assistant told me that from now on there would be an extra charge per prescription filled. I said, "hmm -- I understand why you'd need to do that, but I think I probably will switch to Amazon." "Absolutely," said Bob, smiling but turning beet red. "If you can't afford $4 what else can you do?" "There's no need for sarcasm," I said. "I can afford the $4, but don't really feel like doing that to keep coming to this place, because it isn't all that pleasant to deal with. You've blown your top at me 3 different times." Whereupon Bob launched into a tirade about what a horrible pain in the ass it had been to find a special generic for me, how he had been "kissing my ass" all these years, how if I wondered why he'd blown up at me 3 times I should just go home and look in the mirror, and to take the meds they'd just give me and get out, get out, GET OUT OF THIS STORE RIGHT NOW AND NEVER COME BACK." So I left. Listen, I'm no saint, and I'm not real chatty when I'm picking up prescriptions, but there's no way I'm a "difficult customer." I smile and say how're you doing, I do not act annoyed if there's a delay or some kind of glitch. I don't think I've ever complained about *anything * there. I did say, when I found that one generic had a weird effect on me, that I just could not take that generic any more. But I wasn't pressuring Bob to solve the problem, If he had said it was just too hard for him to get hold of an alternative generic, I'd have said yeah I understood and looked for another drugstore that could get it. I just am not pushy, obnoxious, entitled, etc. I'm introverted and polite. read more

They used to mostly not pick up the phone when one called, on hold eternally, , even with 4 people in pharmacy.Now if you call the pharmacy you are unable to reach the pharmacist at all. Recoded message immeditely says to leave a message and someone will get back to you in an hour. Also pharmacy people keep changing, not the friedliest people. Additionally you fill a prescrition and days later you get texts asking if you want them to order same stuff so no delay on refill, pesty texts to push drugs. Pharmacy service has been abysmal since way back at start ofcovid.. It has gone downhill. Even with Goodrx their prices are usually higher than pharmacies nearby. read more

The medication I got here was fine but the service left a bad taste in my mouth and after coming here for a few months I will be moving my prescriptions back to CVS. 1) my medication is never ready on time. it seems something is always wrong and there is always a perfect excuse of how the wholesaler didn't send it that day or something else. for those wondering, it's a brand name medicine and yes I did call them several days in advance of me needing it. 2) when I brought this issue up to the head pharmacist, he seemed to get upset with me for needing my seizure medication. I came here to be treated as a person, not mocked for needing medication. 3) I can almost never get any non prescription item I am looking for when I come here. my trip here always ends up with me going next door to cvs for anything OTC. read more

I called as a new resident to the area. The person who answered the phone was not the pharmacy. He asked me if I really really had to speak to the pharmacy. I said yes I did. So I got transferred to the pharmacy and the pharmacist was clearly busy. He kept putting me on hold, coming back on line to tell me that the medication I wanted they didn't have even though the med he was mentioning was NOT the one I was asking about. Not even the same class of medication. And he did this to me TWICE. And then he seemed annoyed that I was not a current customer and put me on hold a third time. For anyone who desperately needs a prescription filled and who isn't already a customer, take your business elsewhere. I guess they have enough business and don't need more. And here I was trying to support a local business instead of a big chain. What a mistake - no scrip and I am annoyed. read more

Best pharmacy ever!! I called hysterical as I was given a prescription for my very sick dog and couldn't find a pharmacy to fill it. Kindness Animal Hospital (not our vet, another hysterical call) recommended Belmont Pharmacy. John was so nice, calmed me down and said Linda would be there when I arrived and he would pass info on to her. When I arrived Linda was fabulous and filled my prescription expeditiously. She even made suggestions on how to administer it. It gets better-There was a mix up up w/ my dog's script. Can you believe Linda delivered it on her way home that night along with delicious liver treats for my dog-AMAZING!! It's been 2 months since we switched my mom's medications over to Belmont Pharmacy. My mom needs blood work done before her meds can be prescribed and the pharmacy can fill the prescription, so it's a monthly process of making sure 1) the medical clinic sends the 2) medical lab work over to the 3) pharmacy. Belmont Pharmacy is the easiest to work with in this whole chain. They called my mom's doctor AND the lab. When they didn't hear back in time, they gave her one dose for the evening and called the next day. One time, I was going on a trip directly from work and wouldn't be able to pick up the meds to bring home to my mom, and they offered to deliver it to her. They have even stayed open late to wait for me to pick up meds because my bus was delayed. Belmont Pharmacy has absolutely the BEST customer service, and the MOST competent staff who know exactly what they are asking for when they call the providers and they know exactly how to transfer a prescription over from her old pharmacy. They are also friendly and each time I call or stop in, they remember me and my mom. They are competent and caring. They place her needs above logistics and go out of their way to call, deliver meds, give a one night dose, stay open late for me. Seriously, I couldn't ask for anything more. Thank you Belmont Pharmacy! I have switched my prescription over from the CVS. My allergy meds are easy compared to my mom's, yet CVS's automated system still can't get it right. The nonprescription medications and bandages are also competitively priced and less expensive than CVS.These pharmacists will help you in any way they can, including helping me save on price and special ordering. Thank you to Belmont Pharmacy. They have been providing my 98 year old aunt with pre-packaged pills for about 5 years. This has helped her stay independent in her home. Recently she moved from Watertown to an Assisted living apartment in Lynnfield and Belmont Pharmacy has continued to provide her medications. I have never met Bob, the pharmacist / owner but I have spoken to him many times over the years and I feel like I know him. I am very happy to be changing from CVS to this pharmacy. You get very specialized service. Individual. Attention to detail. The cost is not increased with your insurance companies. The pharmacists are super friendly, interested and so helpful. I know it does not look like much, give them a chance to be here in Belmont. Try it! You may never go back to the pharmacy at CVS.
