Giving this place five stars is a no brainer, and I have so many things to say about this place so bare with me while I tell the story of my experience.
While you could visually tell they were understaffed the night I was here a couple weeks ago, we never felt the effects of it. Whoever walked by that saw we had a dish that needed to be cleared, they cleared it. Our food was delivered by different people, and even the manager was helping out. There was a very good flow to the service that I feel like was timed really well and that definitely added to my positive experience.
We ordered the poutine, smashed cucumber salad, potato and leak soup, hanger steak frites, the dessert special that evening which was chocolate soufflé, and the peach tea pavlova.
We shared everything, which is my favorite way to eat with loved ones! So lets dive into my break down of each item.
Poutine. I love that I got to pour the gravy on it myself, there is something about the added factor of an experience with your food beyond it just hitting your table on a plate. It was delicious! The balance was great, the choice of cheese was perfectly melty and smooth. The fries are shoe string fries, so they are very thin and delicate. Loved every bite!
Smashed Cucumber Salad. What an absolutely refreshing delight to add to this meal. The whipped feta, I took a bite and was speechless. the combination of flavor with the veggies on this plate is so lovely. I could eat this all day long and never get tired of it.
Potato and Leak Soup. I genuinely regret not ordering a bowl instead of a cup. Any time I see something that has truffle oil on it, I get nervous because truffle is a very overpowering flavor already, and the oil is even more intense. Let me tell you. It. Was. Perfection. Everything about this soup was perfectly balanced. I truly wanted to lick the bowl it was so good. Definitely in the top 3 best soups I have ever had. And that is saying something because I freaking love soup and honestly am kind of a snob about it, and am often disappointed when dining out. Not this evening, not at all. Absolutely delicious. Thank you for the experience you gave my taste buds from this soup.
Hanger Steak Frites. I am new to the steak frites game, and have only tried it once before elsewhere. I loved it, and told myself that anytime I see it on a menu, I will try it. Very glad that was my meal choice. The chimichurri was the best I have ever had. That sauce with the steak was like a swan song, and the perfect duo on my plate. I will say, I got the Mac and cheese instead of fries as my side since we had fries with the poutine. The Mac was disappointing to say the least. But when the manager noticed I didn't eat it and asked me if I wanted a box for it, I told him no thank you it honestly didn't taste good, he apologized and told me he would make sure it wasn't on my bill. That was very kind of him and he handled my complaints gracefully. There were grilled peppers on the side of the plate, the sauces from the side made its way to my steak and added a really nice flavor. I don't get putting an entire pepper on the plate, maybe less peppers and more of the juice they create would be better for this dish.
So, the dessert situation got a little rocky, but it was resurrected.
I had never had a chocolate soufflé before, but have learned a lot about them recently. So when the waitress told me that chocolate soufflé was th essential special for the evening, I didn't even let her finish telling me what it came with and told her to order it asap please!! I was so excited, only for it to arrive at my table burnt. Not only was there a black burnt ring around the edges of the soufflé, you could smell the burnt scent before it hit the table. I was honestly annoyed they allowed that to come out of the kitchen like that, especially after the presentation of everything else we had was so nice. I attempted to eat it, but really couldn't. Just a bad dish that seriously need more practice before they decide to serve it again. I did inform the waitress that it was burnt, and my sweet friend tried to eat it anyways because she didn't want to complain. But I was really looking forward to a good dessert and thought, I bet this can be redeemed, especially with how great everything else was. I saw Peach Tea Pavlova on the menu and immediately knew that would be the redeeming grace. While it was just a touch too sweet, it ready was delicious. The pavlova was baked to perfection and it was a stunning looking dish. It 100% made up for the soufflé.
This place deserves five stars all the way for going above and beyond on customer service. I haven't felt so taken care of and well attended to at a local restaurant here in a while. Thank you for one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. It made a huge impact on me. I very much so look forward to dining here again soon. read more
