After waiting for our food for THREE HOURS, having other customers come in, eat, and leave all while we still had not eaten, we asked to speak to the manger. She proceeded to tell us that the reason we had to wait so long for our food was because our waitress had forgotten to put in our order, and the party of 16 that came in after us (who had already finished eating by the time we got our food) was at fault for her mistake because they had to cook their food first. The manager then repeated over and over, to five grown adults, that she "cannot turn back time" and asked us to "let it go". Not only that, but by the time we did get our food, my spaghetti was cold, had microwave burn marks on the side of the bowl, and was literally swimming in undrained water. We were vacationing in the Clayton area during Covid and looking for an outside dining spot for dinner. The options were limited. When we drove up to Bella's we noticed 2 tables outside on the sidewalk facing the parking lot. We were underwhelmed but decided to give it a try anyway. SO GLAD WE DID!!! The food was delicious!!! We selected 2 different pasta dishes that were on the specials list for the night. Huge portions that came with salad and rolls. We could have easily split one order. After reading the reviews we tried Bella's on 04/29. Was disappointed Slow service husband ordered oyster po' boy it came slathered with a sauce too spicy to eat they fixed it but it was still nothing to write home about. I treated myself to lasagne. When ordering I was asked what topping I wanted from a long list I chose more cheese. Come to find out it is made without any meat?! Layered with only 2 noodles and about 3" of cheese and a ton of tomato sauce and served with a roll you couldn't even bit into. I had a club salad that was piled high with turkey and ham. The greens were fresh, too. Delicious! Sophia had a Philly cheesesteak but substituted chicken for steak. They added banana peppers for additional flavor. Hey, we were both born and raised in the City of Brotherly Love, so we know what this is supposed to taste like. Sophia gave it a big thumbs up. Bella's surpassed all my expectations! We chose Bella's when they were one of the only local restaurants open on Mondays. We had a little bit of everything (pizza, shrimp alfredo, wings and fish & chips) and I have nothing but rave reviews for all of it. The pizza has a relatively thin homemade crust (think NY style) with a sauce that's "just right". Would definitely order pizza here again. The shrimp alfredo was made with homemade alfredo sauce and was delicious. The garlic knots were a huge hit too. The wings were plump and large and cooked perfectly (nice and crispy) and sauced with just the right amount of sauce. The fish and chips were THE stand-out on our table. The first thing I noticed was that the fries ("chips") were actually real, fresh cut potatoes. Seriously, where can you get that these days?! They were just like mama makes when we have fish fries. The fish was light and flaky and a perfectly large portion. The breading was light and crispy, not heavy and overwhelming. We come to Clayton every year for our family vacation and we will absolutely be making a stop to Bella's part of our tradition. read more

We have been looking forward to the openings again. We called around to see who was open and Bella's was open with reservations. We made a reservation and headed that way. When we arrived, we were told without a reservation we could sit outside - or wait 30 minutes...then the waitress realized we she made the reservation for us, but we ate outside anyway. We ordered fried mushrooms as an appetizer and then ordered our meal. When the shrooms came out I tasted one and though it was unusually slimy. My wife ate one then started a second and spit it out asking me if I thought they tasted funny. I said yes, but maybe just undercooked. I ate another and it had the same odd flavor and was exceptionally slimy. It smelled a little off too. We told the waitress it not only tasted bad, but aweful and spoiled. She then told us she had just put in our order. Our food came, average would be kind. Our check came, we asked if she had taken off the spoiled shrooms - "No, She won't let me take anything off." $7. Seven dollars and I'll never eat there again. Sloppy, waitress did NOT wear a mask at all. The "pick up" people stopped where their exhaust was right where we were sitting - no one from the restaurant thought to ask them to move up a little or take a space and they'd bring it to them. I was there on Eclipse Monday. There were two waitress' running the inside and outside of the business. Not only did they kick butt, the food was incredible! The patty melt (Bella's Melt) was delicious as were the super thin, ultra crispy, hand battered onion rings! The Bacon Jam Burger, again, delicious! Although I would ask for extra bacon jam. The Portobello Ravioli was, again, to die for! The kids both enjoyed their meal but I would definitely recommend the home cooked kettle chips as their side. Definitely, reasonably priced. My husband had the chicken Marsala that melted in your mouth. One of my daughters had cheese ravioli that was unbelievable.
