My wife had been to a different location and had tried a veggie pasta that we did not see on the menu. Our server spoke to the chef and manager and got it made for her. This is something that they had just taken off their menu, but the chef prepared it nevertheless. Even when we walked in just minutes before closing time - the manager and servers were very pleasant and took the time to get us exactly what we wanted ! To say that I love this place is almost an understatement. Ok, so I was originally drawn in by the idea that I would be eating healthier here. Haha, not everything here is healthy, but it could be worse. I think what separates it from the regular Ruggles (besides different items offered on the menu), is that they're sourcing ingredients locally and buying organic. I perused the reviews first to find out what to order. I went in with a game plan: veggie panini with the butternut squash subbed for the sweet potato fries. Let me just tell you what was on this sandwich. Grilled sourdough bread, grilled veggies (zucchini, mushrooms, onions), hummus and goat cheese. So, I cannot eat vegetarian. I love veggies, but they don't fill me up. This sandwich totally proved me wrong! After stuffing it full of garlic cloves from the condiments counter (I have a problem) I took a bite...it was so delicious and filling, I scarfed it down! Now the butternut squash...I don't even know what to say. It was so smooth and rich. It's almost like a dessert. Here's where the "healthy" goal of the restaurant is defied--it appears that there's a hefty sprinkling of brown sugar and tiny pools of melted butter on top. I'm not complaining, by any means. I don't care, it's just too good to pass up! So, going beyond the panini that I'm obsessed with...it's counter service, so that's convenient for work lunches. Also, enjoy fighting for a seat outside on the pretty patio. On my most recent visit, a friend had the curried chicken salad, which is her favorite. This place hasn't been the same since it was Ruggles Green but I finally had a dish that gives me hope. I usually go for the goat cheese salad but wanted to try something different. I went with the paleo salmon tacos and they were packed with flavor! Light and clean! The description said there was a habanero sauce on the side, but that didn't show up on my plate. I hope these stay on the menu. Four stars for the missing habanero, my dining partner's bland tortilla soup, and being cashless (un-American). read more

I'm a fan of the Ruggles chain, and I really like the idea of having a normal food restaurant where I don't have to worry about pesticides, Monsanto, hormones, and other garbage being added to my food like most food in this nation. I've eaten several times at the other Ruggles Green and like it, but always felt that it didn't have enough space either for parking or inside. The addition of the new one helps, and there is ample parking, as well as a really nice location overlooking a modern plaza with a big fountain. I still can see this place being overcrowded like the other, but at least this Ruggles Green has a larger space and a nicer patio setting. However, I wouldn't come here with a large group. If you've eaten at the other Ruggles Green, expect more of the same. If you are unfamiliar with their food, it's basically your typical "trendy" comfort food. You get sandwiches, burgers, pizzas, pastas, etc. with unusual and healthier or organic ingredients. Keep in mind that organic food doesn't mean that it's "healthy" in terms of fat, salt, or sugar. It just means that it isn't filled up with poisons, hormones, etc. that may have adverse effects on you. If you eat hamburgers, fries, and cake every day at Ruggles Green you're probably going to have about the same health problems as if you ate those things anywhere else. I personally like to eat their Cuban panini, which is basically a pork sandwich with onions and poblano pepper strips served on toasted bread. It's simple, yet delicious. I also like their salads, and have eaten several other items on their menu. I've never had the hempanadas. Quite frankly, they seem sort of gimicky to me. Their hummus is good, and the dried tomatoes on the side give it a nice touch. If you are coming here for sweets, you will either have a good time or a bad time depending on your expectations. I like to eat at Ruggles Bakery in Rice Village, and that is my favorite place to get cake in Houston. Ruggles Green has similar items, but they are often smaller, and some of them I'm not as big of fans of. If you go there with no preconceived notions about it though, their desserts are great. Just don't go expecting a slice of cake to be big enough for two or three people. Overall, Ruggles Green is one of those restaurants I want to eat at more often both because it tastes great, and because I like being able to eat healthier more environmentally friendly food. read more

OK, so I just returned to this City Center location last weekend, and I have to give my quick lunch 5 whole stars because the food was that good! I only had the Corn Chowder and "Hempanadas" but they were 5 star worthy items for sure. Additionally I took advantage of the complimentary condiment bar: house-made pickles, chipotle ketchup, and marinated garlic.... and I'm so happy I did because they were all sensational!!! I got little bowls of each to try, and somehow ended up eating all of them. They went perfectly with the "Hempanadas" and I even threw a couple of the marinated cloves of garlic into my chowder.... oh my goodness, that was sublime. The garlic is literally like softened butter, and is sweet and mild, with just the faintest hint of the garlic kick to make you smile and know what you ate. The "Hempanadas" have a lovely ground beef filling, like a pica dillo, with raisons and good spice - not spicy! But just perfectly seasoned. They are served with that amazing creamy cilantro dressing that I can drink up just on its own; the other dipping sauce was an orange color and had absolutely no flavor... at all! So just in case, ignore that one. I tried it, and then it got shoved to the side. It added nothing to me, but certainly didn't take away from the awesomeness of the rest of the food! who knows, maybe that was a bad batch... The Corn Chowder was recommended to me by the cashier when I asked him which soup should I try, and I wow I wish I knew what his name was because I would give him public praise right now!!!! The corn chowder is the best I've had, and much better than their tomato bisque - to me! It just hit the spot on a cold day, and paired with those meaty hempanadas, made for the perfect quick lunch. read more

I'm not sure why this place doesn't have a higher Yelp rating, I LOVE IT! A friend introduced me to this place a few years back and now every drive through Houston results in a stop here. Everything is so incredibly fresh and even when you aren't eating healthy, you feel like you are because of how fresh all of the veggies are. I've tried a few things, Salmon Pesto Pasta, Grilled Chicken Sandwich, Buffalo Burger. After tasting my way around the menu I've decided that my favorite is the Buffalo Burger. The meat has a great flavor! It kind of stinks they don't have the option for American cheese though. I've tried both fries. I lovelovelove the sweet potato fries here. I mean, they are both good. But if you want good sweet potato fries, get them here. I've never tasted any that taste like these. They are incredibly sweet and you can really taste the potato, most other places burn sweet potato fries so they end up tasting crunchy and tasteless. Ruggles nailed it. My co-workers and I love to come here for lunch, but I feel like we have to mentally psych ourselves up for the large crowds and sometimes long wait times of the lunch rush. The line when you walk sometimes stretches across the building, and seating (especially indoors) can be hard to come by. A lot of visitors that come in groups have wised up to this and will now send someone from the group to go reserve a table while everyone else stands in line. Lately it seems like the food takes longer and longer to arrive at your table. One thing they have resolved recently, however, is the lack of menus. Last time we visited there were plenty of newly-printed menus available by the front door to browse while waiting in line. The food always makes the wait worth it. The salads are always fresh and HUGE in portion size, which is good because they aren't cheap. I will keep returning because of the food quality, but will always have a little bit of dread about that wait! read more

I love this place. Food is great but a little expensive considering it's lunch. You have to order first and they give you a number and once your food is ready the servers will bring it out to you. I had the grilled spicy fish tacos which was wonderful. They were served on 4 round corn tortillas topped with a fantastic slaw. This dish is one of my favorites. Man, I love this place. Pros: - Everything is so good. The quinoa mac&cheese is just as good as the one on W. Alabama. One of my favorites are the buffalo burger which is cooked to perfection. They have just the right amount of salt on them and you could barely tell the difference between these fries and regular fries. - I like how there are several things made in house such as their pickles and chipotle ketchup. - Every. Single. Dessert. on the menu just sounds so tantalizing. It's so hard to choose just one! And they're all as amazing as they look. My top pick so far is the pink velvet cake. And all the desserts come with dark chocolate and vanilla ice cream. I went here for dessert after having lunch at another location....the only regret is not eatting lunch and having dessert here! They have very large portions in my opinion. This is a great location. There are more restaurants, bars, shopping, and so much more nearby. My first time here was on a Saturday night. Ruggles Green was super packed! The food came out quick which is a plus. The second time I came on a Tuesday night. There were a good amount Calamari: The first time I had it was perfect. The sauces, the breading stayed intact, seasoned perfectly, and cooked perfectly. The second time was pretty awful. Some we good perfectly. Most of them were tough. The breading kept coming apart. It was also very little. I felt ripped off. Greek Pizza: I had it the Saturday night. It was pretty good. It was fresh. I would give it three stars, but my boyfriend thought it was very good. The Cuban Sandwich: It is very dry.... 1 star. It has good flavor that lingers in and out. Hummus: hummus was alright. The pita bread was what impressed me. It was delicious! I could eat it by itself. Shrimp Pasta: very garlicy. not much flavors beside that. 1 star. Chicken Tacos: 2 stars. It doesn't taste that great. The texture isn't very good either. I love Ruggles! It's funny because in my last review I said I always get the grilled chicken sandwich- which I still adore... but I'm trying to be adventurous, okay? I don't think I've ordered that since I wrote the review... ha. However, I've explored the menu more and more each time and I think that's better than sticking to one dish. This place is one of my go-to restaurants because the food is always delicious and rich and the entire concept of eating there is very well thought-out. I love their sweet potato fries, I still love their chicken sandwich, their soups are great, and the desserts are outstanding. The only thing I will call them out on is SUUUUUUPER duper overcooked quinoa mac and cheese the last time I ate. Hopefully it was a one-time issue. The dish tasted fantastic but the pasta itself was incredibly overcooked. If you've ever cooked gluten-free pasta at home (either brown rice, corn & white rice, or quinoa) you'll know that it usually takes less time to get it al dente. Another point I'd like to make is that I despise tres leches (please, nobody kill me in my sleep) but the tres leches cake at Ruggles was great. A friend ordered the dessert and I had a few bites. I was meeting a business colleague for a long after lunch meeting. We decided to meet at the Town and Country center.... We decided on a drink and ultimately ordered a piece of the carrot cake....... The cake seemed to be prepared in a time warp and took what seemed like an eternity that ended with the most beautiful presentation..... One very large chocolate lace inserted into a single scoop of a wonderful frozen cream sat amongst a drizzled plate of wonderful flavors. in the middle of the plate was a huge slice of what appeared to be a relatively normal Carrot Cake. I took the first bite........ pause....... pause..... the world seemed to come to a complete stand still.... My pallet was jump started into a mode that it may have never entered...... warm fresh from the oven tasting goodness..... Oh MY! I was frozen. I think I now know why the first of anything great ruins you for life until.... I took another bite. My friend just stared at me like I was in that scene from "When Harry Met Sally." she was right though it was that amazing....... I may never be the same again. A great spot to grab some healthier food after shopping or working out in the area. I really enjoy the outdoor seating, especially with the cooler weather for fall and winter. There's a breeze that flows through the green behind the restaurant that feels amazing. Everything on the menu has little notations on weather it's dairy free, gluten free, or vegetarian so that pretty much anyone with any special diet can enjoy a meal. My favorite is the spicy chicken tacos. They have a great flavor and filled me right up. If you love cheese, grab a bowl of the tomato soup. It's very creamy with a balanced spice profile. It seems you stay pretty busy for lunch, especially when the weather is nice, so be prepared to wait for a bit. Buy once you order, the food will be it pretty quick. A Ruggles close enough for lunch at work. Yea! I enjoyed a special here the last time I ate. Black bean tacos. I think they added it to the regular menu. They're very good. What makes this place special is the pleasant outdoor seating. The "original" location has outdoor seating, but it isn't relaxing or picturesque like it is here. In fact, the patio seating is so popular that I've never been able to snag a table there. If you're not a meat eater, I highly recommend the Texas Caesar salad with the grilled tofu. It's a great light lunch... or dinner if you're planning to indulge in dessert... which I ALWAYS do! On tip, don't come here with a large group if you insist on all eating at the same table. The Ruggles Green Texas Goat Cheese Salad was very fresh and tasted quite good. It comes with greens, arugula, almonds, granny smith apples, and goat cheese. It's light and tasty. The carrot cake here was delicious. It came with vanilla bean ice cream and was just very good. The cake was moist, the frosting sweet but not too sweet. I really enjoyed this. We ordered this at the same time as the salad and I just wanted to eat the cake. The restaurant is nice. The place was packed but we got there right before the crowd came. We got a great spot on the patio where we could chat, enjoy our sweets and people watch. I'm not sure what we were thinking with ordering two desserts -- both were massive but still, we finished almost all of it! Yikes! The bread pudding was amazing --- not too mushy and not too sweet. This place has been somewhere I wanted to try for a while. While I have not tried every place to eat in City Center yet I have tried alot of them. Some I hate and some I love. This goes down in my book as one that I love. Nice location for people watching outside on the patio. Its a nicely decorated, Upscale Casual order and sit with gourmet organic foods. You can still get a beer or wine and they stay open til 11pm on weekend. We tried the Ruggles house salad with grilled chicken, added goat cheese and it was tasty. I have an obsession with goat cheese. Any place that serves it right gets a big Yea buddy in my book. The pizzas caught my eye as soon as we entered so we got a Greek which was fresh and tasty as well. Ohhhh did I see sooo many good things being served to tables around us. I am a food gawker and if I see something good I might stare and then stare some more and I might even ask what you ordered. This place had some dishes that I need to go back and check out. Fish tacos, Soups (french onion looked divine), Kabob and more desserts. I loved the tea and drink selection. They serve a variety of drinks and beers in the bottle. They even had a mini bar set-up outside facing the green area in city center. I can NOT WAIT for cooler weather and dining Al Fresco. Come on 85!!! Only Meh was the pink Velvet cake, but I can assure you there are many other dessert options to choose from. I will check out the bread pudding next time. Or the Hemp Brownies. I love a good brownie. Apparently this is Houston's very first "green" restaurant. Their website says that it's Texas's only 4 star green restaurant. From the setup of the Restaurant to the actual food itself, I'm going to just have to take their word for it because I didn't notice anything "green" about it. I found it strange that upon entry that there was no one to greet you. Turns out that this is not a full service restaurant. You order from the counter that is hidden from view and fill your own drinks. The cashier wasn't very well trained. This guy took forever just to enter in our order, take payment and hand over a ticket. There was no one else in line. I realized that it was foolish of me to pay for a drink when the cups were out in the open next to the soda fountain because the cashier never would have noticed. Also, there's some strange electric ticket holder on every table. To me, it seemed rather wasteful for a green restaurant to have an unnecessary electric device. OK, so this place was not at all what I was expecting... and then I got my food. I ordered the fish tacos, which everyone says are the best around. I've had plenty of fish tacos, most of them have been mediocre at best, so I wasn't expecting a whole lot. Usually when you get fish tacos on corn tortillas, the tortillas are doubled down. They didn't double the tortillas down, but they gave me two per taco. The Tilapia filets were so huge that it took two corn tortillas side by side to lay underneath. I had never seen fish tacos so huge or served they way they do. The Tilapia was well cooked and tasted great but the presentation was all wrong. There was no way I could eat all that food the way it was served to me! Ruggles Green was such a bizarre experience that I had to yelp about it because to me, it's clear that Ruggles Green is all hype. read more

I frequent this place because of the fact that they serve organic and local food. The food is delicious.Love the desserts, the veggie nut burger is delicious. Prices are fair, service is fast, staff is polite. The only things I don't really like is the size of the restaurant and finding parking. If you go on a busy day, it is often difficult to find a seat. I have had to wait for several minutes before finding a seat. But the staff is very good at cleaning the tables off quickly so its not completely terrible. I think that if there was an upstairs or additional space somewhere, that would make it perfect for me! It takes a lot of time to find a good parking space unless you get lucky most days. Though this is not something the restaurant can do much about. Overall, great restaurant, give it a try! read more

I came here on a Saturday night around 8:30PM and the line has about 10 people already. However, the line moved rapidly and I was able to find a table for our group. Side note: You won't be able to sit down until you've placed an order which I think it's very fair. Tomato basil soup: It looks like a chicken pot pie because it has a puff pastry covering the bowl. Compared to the famous version from La Madeleine, this soup has more cheese but looks less creamy. My friend seems to like it better than La Madeleine. Grilled chicken sandwich with a side: $11.99 (8/10) The sandwich was pretty big. I had a hard time trying to take a full bite. I can only eat the bottom bun with the fillings or the top bun with the fillings. The sandwich was stuffed with healthy greens, slices of yummy avocado, red onions, tomatoes, and grilled chicken with drizzles of their mango-ranch sauce. It was good and healthy! Their sides are french fries, sweet potato fries, or the quinoa salad. I've tried all three sides before and they are all delicious. Chicken caesar wrap (6/10): Another healthy option. It comes with grilled chicken, lettuce, cheese, red onions, sun-dried tomatoes, and drizzles of their Caesar dressing. Nothing explosive about the flavors but it's a good meal. It comes with a side too. On a separate occasion...I've ordered the spicy fish tacos (8/10). You can choose between fried or grilled fish. Tacos are filled with cabbages, pico de gallo, cheese, and topped with their spicy chipotle sauce. I'll definitely get it again! white chocolate bread pudding dessert: HANDS DOWN THE BEST, BEST BREAD PUDDING EVER CREATED!!! This dessert is enough for 2-4 people if they like to share. While visiting Texas, my family told me that coming to Ruggles Green was a must - and I wasn't disappointed. We got there early enough to beat the lunchtime rush, but be warned that the lines can get ridiculously long. That being said, the restaurant is spacious, and lit with so much natural sunlight. A range of dishes were ordered from their tacos to salads, to mac and cheese and an open faced egg sandwich. The portions were huge, and totally worth the money! Not only that but the food was incredibly fresh, and everything tasted delicious. I definitely recommend the tomato soup with puff pasty (only comes with the large size), and the egg sandwich can be done with egg whites for an extra two dollars. My only complaint was that the desserts (although delicious) were way too sweet and heavy. We shared two desserts between four people, and that was perfectly fine! I first visited this location on a Thursday night and I was surprised at how busy it was! The restaurant does a good job at explaining that you order at the cashier and then deliver it to you. My table ended up ordering the Margherita Pizza, and the Cajun Spicy Shrimp Pasta. The pizza was a good size and my only complaint would be that by the time my plate came the crust was soggy enough that I could not really pick up the individual pieces. As for the pasta, the cajun flavors were just right: the shrimp were seasoned deliciously and not too chewy. Ruggles Green is an awesome concept! I get to have a bite and the most awesome white chocolate bread pudding. Best of both worlds. The hempenadas and chicken sandwich is a sure thing. I've visited Ruggles a few times, and it's only been ok. If there is one thing you should try, I would go with the wood fired pizzas. I suggest the roasted chicken pizza or Dale's pizza. Both taste pretty good. But I've always had an issue with the service. The wait staff always seemed overwhelmed and I once waited 20 minutes for my bill to be delivered. Don't get me wrong...I felt the food was tasty and the prices were ok. But...I shouldn't have to put up with waiting that long. read more

Delicious! Healthy, fun, and well designed. I got the ham and cheese panini with quinoa, and a beet salad. It was absolutely delicious, and I have lots of leftovers to enjoy later. The atmosphere is trendy and fun but I am also comfortable to be here with my dad and his older friends. It's great!! Absolutely delicious. Can't wait to come back again. My first time eating at this location was a couple of days ago to meet up a friend for lunch. So of course during lunch time it was extremely busy and there was a long line to order. The wait for the food didn't take too long, it was a reasonable amount of time. I ordered my favorite, the Ruggles Green Atlantic Salmon Salad, and I was surprised to see the quantity of that plate when it was brought out; my friend ordered a pasta dish, and that also came out plentiful for her as well (since she was so stuffed from it). All I want to say about this place is that they are by no means stingy whatsoever and is deserving of their good reputable title for being a healthy/vegan restaurant. I was highly satisfied with my experience here, I personally like this location better than the Sugar Land/Town Center location, which is the one I usually go to. Every time I have come into the Ruggles Green at City Center I have yet to have a bad experience. I consider myself a lucky person or just have great timing. Usually I manage to beat the lunch or dinner crowd each time so I have not had an issue with waiting in line to order. I came in yesterday with a co-worker for lunch. It was a gorgeous day but too windy/cold to enjoy their patio. We grabbed menus as we entered to see what we wanted to enjoy for lunch. I was opting for their fish or shrimp tacos but saw they had a chicken salad sandwich which I have been craving but hadn't found a deli or shop that served a good one. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich with their handcut french fries. My co-worker ordered the kobe beef burger I believe. The chicken salad was great there was texture difference between the chicken, crunchy bits of celery, pecans, and sweetness from the cranberries. There was also green onions but just a subtle amount not overpowering. I also liked that they didn't use a ton of mayo but just enough to marry all the ingredients. It was served on a lovely toasted whole-wheat pain de mie. My co-workers burger looked and smelled great and I'm sure it was because she devoured it all! I will definitely be back in to try some of their salads they looked like huge portions gotta love a big ass salad! They also use/serve whole chicken breasts with the salads. =] read more

I love this location in the middle of CityCentre. I especially love the hummus and grilled chicken sandwich (I know it sounds boring but its good). The food is consistent and if you put your order device on the marked place on your table, they bring your plate right to you without it even going off. read more
