This place was fantastic. Perfect way to end a weekend with their awesome food and bar selection. The Mrs. and I had Spanish Muscles for our appetizer and it was outstanding. The perfect amount for two people to pick at. Our entrees were also notable. I had the Pasta Tacacao with shrimp which was both watering and spicy without being overpowering. My wife had the La Brassa Wrap which she enjoyed very much. Their dessert menu was good too. The staff was knowledgeable and very eager to assist in any way when picking out menu choices. Their wine selection was great. When all was said and done or bill was very manageable with tip. read more

Pleasant atmosphere in a quaint, warm setting. We all enjoyed our food. The zucchini goat cheese linguini was delicious and I'm not a fan of zucchini but I'm a sucker for goat cheese and I chose well. Service could have been a little faster but they were pretty busy. Even without a reservation on a Friday night, we were seated right away. Definitely plan on coming back with friends. read more

Its a quaint, unassuming venue with so much energy and passion for their amazing food. The food is stellar, a mix of outrageous flavors in every bite. The hardest decisions you'll make are 1) how to choose what to eat, as everything on the menu looks so inviting and 2) when do I return to eat what I havent yet? I've tried the ceviche, wings, Arroz con Mariscos, creme brûlée, and a few other items and have yet to be disappointed. Kyle is extremely personable, knowledgeable and passionate about everything Peruvian and everything Canggio's has to offer. Make it a point to dine here. From the presentation, to the flavors and the service, you are sure to have a most enjoyable dining experience. read more

Canggio is a not what you would expect in Norwich CT, a town that historically had seen great wealth in previous years, but now appears run down. However, the restaurant is a true and very surprising culinary bright spot. It states that it is Peruvian, but it is really a fusion of many influences, all of them very carefully crafted together, yet with the Peruvian food very much there at all times. Great food, complex and exciting without being too intimidating, yet it has a solid hint of comfort food at the same time. We tried many of the starters and the main meals and I really couldn't pick out one that was any better than the other - they were all wonderful. To put it in perspective, my son had just had four wisdom teeth removed the previous day and he still finished everything that he ordered! They stocked a great bar with a interesting collection of cocktails that were tried a few of. Worth experimenting if you go. Service was impeccable and very warm and inviting. Our server and the owner couldn't have been more hospitable. In conclusion, great food, great drinks, great service and a great place all round. I will be back soon. read more

This restaurant is a jewell in the city of Norwich. I live a few blocks from them and have dined there frequently. The food is absolutely superb. My favorite is their Spanish Mussels made with a fennel and tomato cream sauce. Their main menu changes periodically and every thing tastes wonderful. Their presentation epitomizes the term culinary art. I have dine in any major cities in the USA and several in Europe. The food at Canggio is among the best I have eaten. If you haven't dined there, you are truly missing out read more

My husband and I stopped here for multiple reasons. First, everyone told us we should try it. Second, they supported a veteran hike that my husband was in. And they were so gracious and humble about it. Now to the review... oh dear Jesus, this was amazing! I absolutely love the atmosphere, the decor, and the staff. The waitress, hostess and everyone we encountered held customer service above and beyond. Norma and Steven were spectacular. We had a delicious pisco sour - made the real way, and delicious wine. We had two appetizers that were just fabulous: Yakitori with meat skewers and empanadas. For our meals, I had the octopus. This can be difficult, as sometimes it is served chewy. This was delightful octopus. And the sauces on the dish were spectacular! My husband had a seafood combo that also was amazing. We stuffed ourselves completely. We also love that it is tucked into a neighborhood. I can't wait to go back and try other dishes!! read more

Outstanding hospitality by the waitstaff (shoutout to Kyle); however, the kitchen was not to scratch. We came with a party of 10 and ordered duplicates of two of the pasta dishes (the chifa and the goat cheese pasta), and requested that each dish be split into two plates. However, they were divided very unevenly and made for a very confusing and overall unsatisfying experience. For instance, one of the split goat cheese pastas was 50% tomatoes, while the other had none. The dishes were also inconsistent; one of the goat cheese pastas had a delicious creamy sauce and the other...didn't? Our server was kind and gave us additional sauce, but still, less than ideal. The chaufa (fried rice) was excellent though and consistent. I'd recommend that and the goat cheese pasta, if you're a gambler. Also, the half chicken + fries were delicious. read more

Canggio is home to Norwich's most talented Chef, Julio Cancho. Stop in and enjoy an amazing selection of Peruvian food.

DELISH food with a very knowledgeable bartender who crafted me an amazing cocktail. Portions are spot on, prices are very fair and the atmosphere is upbeat while remaining true to a fine dining Peruvian experience. Definitely recommend! read more

Excellent and friendly service. Definitely get the corn drink, ceviche and octopus. Wowza. Love that they honor veterans and people who work in service of others. Fantastic. read more

My wife and I went here for lunch today. It was our first Peruvian food experience and it was a delight. The restaurant is beautifully decorated Simple and Clean. The menu is fun because it's all new to us. We tried several different appetizers and came away saying that are absolute favorite dish was the seafood soup. And if you're looking for excellent value the sandwich portions are huge and varied. It looks like they're doing a nice take out business as well but we really enjoyed the ambience of dining in. The wait staff seem to really know the dishes and they were very attentive. We look forward to returning again. read more

What a treat! I am so thrilled this culinary establishment exists in Eastern CT. We need more diversity in cuisine that is also high in quality and does justice to Latin American flavors. From drinks to apps to desserts and everything in between, this place was consistently delicious. We were a party of 5 and everyone was quite pleased with their selections. Apps: chicharron: fatty cuts if that's what floats your boat; i'd prefer a higher ratio of crispy skin to fat crab cakes: perfectly moist and flavorful mussels: deliciously steamed to perfection, swimming in a creamy soup base that can be taken home and used for tomorrow's pasta sauce ceviche: generous serving of fish, acid of the juice was perfect. however, cubes of fish could be smaller and odd pairing with sweet potato mash but the ceviche fans at the table loved it Entrees: Hooray for HUGE PORTIONS!! the lamb stew, paella, and chicken a la brasa were all so fantastically flavored my tastebuds were doing jumping jacks Desserts: chocolate cake, picarones, churros: i left for the bathroom and came back in time to see the last bits all devoured so i'm going with they were a fan favorite!? read more

Nice, quiet location with a clean and comfortable interior. I got the Pisco Sour which was wonderful! The server was extremely educated in what differentiated the Peruvian liquors from one another. I shared the truffle fries, yuca fritas, and the Peruvian wings. The best were the wings as they were nice and crispy. All three came with a cilantro aoli which was surprisingly delicious despite me not usually enjoying the taste of cilantro. I ordered the albaca, which was steak cooked to order with a spinach and basil pesto. The steak was cooked perfectly, but was seemingly under-seasoned. The overall dish had little flavor, and had more spinach than basil in the pesto which was a little disappointing. Overall a cool, new place in Norwich that I would return to! read more

Go support this local Business! This neighbor hood gem is truly the best addition to town in a long time.... food is excellent, service and staff are always on point, my only complaint is I wish the bar was a bit bigger but they're doing the best with what they have! You won't be disappointed here! Break away from your normal routine and check this place out. You'll become a regular! read more

Best Pisco sour that I've had in a long time! I had the salmon dish (forget what the name was)- very tasty. Service stole the show however- I forget his name but we had a male server and he was awesome. On point when we needed him and also to make get suggestions. We will be back! read more

This place is awesome. Ask the server about their flavored drinks I forget what they are called but they have these dark colored berry cinnamon infused non-alcoholic drinks that are to die for. I've ordered the ceviche here which comes in a mouth watering lime juice sauce but it is so filling this really could be a main dish not an appetizer. The yuca frita is a must have appetizer item, so tasty. The tuna nikkei is very nice and actually a smaller portion than the other apps. The aveja salad is really nice. The entrees are enough to feed 5 so beware. I've really never had anything I didn't like at this place. My sister is vegan and she even found a little rice dish that she loves. My parents have had the chicken and the tuna entree and loved them. So moral of the story is I'd never even had Peruvian food before I tried this place and I am in love. read more

The food is clean. Portions are small considering the pricing. The place mimics fine dining but is unorganized and provides you small portions. The price isn't justified by the food, this restaurant has no rating but provides you small portions as if it was an Iron Chef's restaurant. The menu's are misleading about the portion sizes and the pictures show you more than you will actually get. The portion dilemma example i used is for the potato "ball" and not more than one like pictured. Seeing that i can buy them for 2$ at the local mom and pop Spanish hole in the wall, i assumed that for 8$ id get more than 1 measly ball. Again, if this place had a rating or could actually acquire one, then the pricing may be justified. Otherwise it is overpriced and probably feeds off of the local hospital employees that are sick of the other older options. read more

Canggio is consistently excellent. We visited last night for dinner. The service was brisk and professional. The food was delicious and artfully presented. I had the 1/2 chicken dinner. My dining companions had a salad and a pasta dish. Everyone was satisfied with their meals, and I got away with the leftovers for today's lunch, Bonus! read more

I had no idea what Peruvian fusion meant at first... but it turns out it means Delicious!! I've been back over 10 times and each time I try something new and I'm always elated by the experience. Outstanding service, very plesant atmosphere and out of this world American Peruvian blend . Perfect balance for a restaurant. My server was on top of everything, didn't need to ask for anything other than my order, her recommendations for food and wine were spot on. We had the chance to speak with the owner who also runs the kitchen, very humble person with a lot of great ideas. For me worth a Michelin star since I don't mind the drive from Rhode Island and it's been already 4 visits to Canggio. read more

Just went here for Valentine's Day to try out a new place near us and I'm so glad that we did! First off the service was wonderful. Our waiter was very attentive and made great suggestions. The atmosphere of the restaurant itself is really cozy and quaint. I was also watching some of the other patrons talking to and hugging the chef which was heart warming. Seeing that I felt like these are probably regulars then which is always a great sign of a restaurant. We started off with the empanadas and the chicharron appetizer. Both were really good but I the empanadas were so delicious. I could have made a meal out of those alone! We also got the Peruvian shrimp chowder which was so good! Had lots of flavor and had a good amount of shrimp in it. For the mains my husband got the jalea, the fried seafood platter and I got the sudado de mariscos which was a seafood platter with a sauce on it. His had just a touch of fried batter to it which was really nice and light. Mine was quite tasty as well, although I did have a little bit of plate envy. For dessert we finished with a pomegranate creme brûlée special which was a nice balance of tart and sweet. All in all it was a great experience and I'm so glad that we tried it. We will definitely be going back! read more

This restaurant is a Hidden Gem in Norwich not far from the hospital. It is BYOB for now, and it's only been open for a month or so, but you'd never know it was a brand new restaurant by the quality of the food and the professionalism of the staff. Most of the other diners were locals, which is always nice to see. Parking is on the street, but that's not really a problem. Upon entering, we were greeted by friendly staff and seated near the antique freezer, which is a Wonder in itself. The restaurant is impeccably clean, neat, and comfortable. For a somewhat small dining area, it felt more spacious perhaps due to the high ceilings and and comfortable small table seating. We were served some ice cold water and a serving of roasted corn sauteed in olive oil with a sprinkling of salt. Delicious! My friend ordered the Mussels, which were a bit on the small side, but the sauce made up for the tiny mussels. A Buttery and herbacious, savory sauce, which I normally would normally never try because I don't like mussels, was delicious with a little bit of toasted bread dipped in it. We both ordered the Lomo, which was perfectly cooked. Most of the pieces of beef were medium or medium rare. The tomato and onions and accompanying broth only added to make the rice more delicious. Very, very finally cut shoestring potatoes were piled high on top of the entire dish. The chef came over to talk to us at our table and he was wonderful to chat with, wanting to know where we lived, how we heard about the restaurant, etc. And he gave us the history of the antique freezer. I would absolutely eat here again. Keep the good reviews coming and this restaurant could be around for a long time. I certainly hope it stays for good. read more
