    a pizza in a box

Yummy ! We ordered a large cheese pizza with feta , bacon , and onions , and a size of fries with two root beers . It was about $30 The pizza was delicious, the sauce was so flavorful and the crust was perfect. Next time I will ask for it to be well done only because of the onions. It was our first time ordering from this location and we will be ordering frequently now lol , definitely our favorite pizza place In the area.

Moving into a new town there are several things you wish for and I would have to say a "Go To Pizza" restaurant is near the top of the list. Enter Pizza Pub RIGHT DOWN THE STREET. In a time where hoity toity places trying to impersonate real pizza restaurants are running rampant charging people hundreds of dollars for thin dough, arugula and a splash of sauce, the Pizza Pub is a 7-days a week open until 10p oasis. Pizza Pub is not only a classic Greek Pizza restaurant with a menu to please everyone, but they are also SUPERHEROES. Moving here had no kitchen - Pizza Pub to the rescue; trades people doing work at the house - Pizza Pub to the rescue; surprised by 6 hungry teenagers - Pizza Pub to the rescue; 10 more people show up unexpectedly - Pizza Pub to the rescue; every placed closed at 9p - Pizza Pub to the rescue. Look - Pizza Pub's cheese pizza is hands down one of the best I have ever had period. Funny when I hear the occasional "Greek Pizza is good but greasy" here is a reminder: first, at the fancy pizza places when a pizza droops with, well "grease," it's called oil, olive oil, heart healthy oil - but at a real pizza place the same oil is called grease. Second IF it bothers you, blot with a paper napkin. Here is what I know every time I get a Pizza Pub small cheese pizza - it is served hot. Cheese is perfectly melted with that slight browning on top. Pull a piece out and YES you can pick the whole piece up, no droop. A perfect crunch from first bite to last. When I want a little something extra well, I add bacon and jalapeno peppers to my cheese pizza. And the ultimate test of great pizza - one no one likes to talk about - when you wake up in the morning and you head to the fridge for leftover pizza - I'm addicted to my morning slice of Pizza Pub pie! Big menu so you will just have to try what you want - here is what I or others have had and all has been good: Pizza, BLT Club, chicken and cheese quesadilla, French fries, Grinders - tuna, American mix, chicken parm, ham, Genoa, Italian Combo and steak & cheese. Wings are solid, salads are substantial especially with grilled chicken, melts are a trip, and calzones are cheesy goodness. Here is at least one hopeful result of this review: those of you who enjoy paying $35 for a "pizza" go ahead, take your friends out, pay the triple figure bill then when no one is looking order Pizza Pub's $8.50 cheese pizza and remember what pizza really is.

The "chicken cutlet grinder". Hope you like bread and tomato because there sure wasn't a lot of chicken...

Been here a couple times for subs. Last time will be my last. We ordered 5 subs to go. Got home and was looking forward to my chicken cutlet sub, guess 3 of us had to split their last one. I know the place isn't fancy but for real, they could and should have told us they were out instead of selling me the worst grinder ever. Literally had 3 strips of "chicken" that was almost purely breeding and it was obviously reheated several times before I got it. Don't expect this place to remain open if this is what they are selling. Pictures available on request!

    Italian Grinder

My first grinder in a few decades, but I'll be back for more. Some chopped pepperonicini on the Italian would have taken it to 5 stars.

Very cute little diner on the road. The eggplant Parmesan was super heavy. Portions are huge for the price. The service is warm.

Great food, great prices. Tend to do pickup rather than eat in but cute area to eat in as well. Hidden gem!

Sad, soggy, overcooked eggplant on top of way over cooked ziti. No bueno. Stick with the pizza.

I ordered a cheese pizza. The crust was cooked perfectly but the cheese was beyond burnt. It was the worst pizza I've had in the area.

Best pizza in the area, the grinders are top notice but its Greek Salad is the real home run.

My wife, and the reason I am posting this, says the Seltzer is even better then our regular spot. If you knew my wife, you would probably fall out of your chair reading this. First off, when you find the menu online, there is many items that are not currently on the menu. I know they had some staffing issues recently and I'm sure that's why they are running a limited menu, but that should definitely be updated online so guests know that before they come. I also was really looking forward to trying some of their beer, only to find that the only surfridge product available was a seltzer. This was a huge disappointment. To go to a brewery and not be able to drink their beer is pretty ridiculous. Maybe a social media post on instagram to let people know you're not serving your own beer right now? Would have been pretty helpful. When I asked the bartender if that's all the beers available he said " we're going with a microbrewery approach right now". Not really a microbrewery approach if there's one house made beverage and it's not even a beer. That's just a restaurant at that point. The pizzas were good as always, just really long wait in between. We were sitting with two other friends who ordered separately but still at the same time as us, and in between all the pizzas there were super long wait times. One pizza, than 25 minutes later one for the other check, than a half hour later, the other one for them, and then a good amount of time later the last one for us. We didn't even really want it at that point. The whole flow of the way the food came out was just really weird. I'm a chef of almost 15 years in the industry, I'm in no way giving up on this place, as I really like it here. I just think there's some very questionable decisions on the way it's currently being ran. Thanks.

If you ever wondered what would happen if Goodfellas, The Godfather, When Harry Met Sally, and a…read moresun-drenched afternoon on the Amalfi Coast all got together for Sunday dinner... the answer is La Marea in Old Saybrook. The name La Marea means "the tide," and after one visit you'll understand why. Like the tide itself, you just keep coming back. I've eaten my way from the seafood markets of Sicily to the cafés of Rome, the canals of Venice, the vineyards of Tuscany, and the bustling trattorias of Milan. I've spent enough time arguing over pasta shapes to qualify as an honorary Italian uncle. I don't throw around the phrase authentic Italian lightly. La Marea earns it. From the moment you walk through the doors, you're welcomed like you've just returned home after a very long vacation. Juliana is the kind of hostess who somehow remembers everyone, makes every guest feel like family, and radiates the warmth that reminds you of every wonderful Italian grandmother you've ever wished you had. She has that magical gift of making the entire restaurant feel less like a business and more like a celebration. Then there's Nino. Every great Italian restaurant has a heartbeat. Nino is La Marea's. His decades of culinary experience and deep Italian roots shine through every detail. You can tell immediately that this isn't about trends or gimmicks--it's about family, hospitality, tradition, and food prepared with genuine pride. The restaurant beautifully blends northern and southern Italian cuisine, using imported Italian ingredients alongside fresh local products, and the seasonal menu keeps every visit exciting while staying true to its heritage. (LaMarea Ristorante) The staff? Absolutely phenomenal. Professional without being stuffy. Friendly without being overbearing. They somehow anticipate what you need before you know you need it. Glasses stay full. Plates appear at exactly the right moment. Conversations flow naturally. It's the kind of service that has become all too rare. And then... Brad. If cocktails were an Olympic event, Brad would need a bigger trophy case. Watching him behind the bar is like watching Tom Cruise in Cocktail--only with better drinks and significantly fewer broken bottles. Every cocktail arrives balanced, beautiful, and dangerously delicious. La Marea's craft and pre-Prohibition-inspired cocktail program is already impressive, but Brad elevates it into an experience. One drink turns into two, two somehow become "well...maybe just one more," and before long you're discussing whether Sinatra or Billy Joel made the better soundtrack for Italian dinners. Now let's discuss the food. The calamari? Outstanding. The Bolognese? Quite possibly one of the finest expressions of comfort food known to humanity. Combine the two? Forget NASA--we've discovered the greatest culinary achievement since someone first decided olive oil belonged on bread. If there is better calamari Bolognese anywhere on Earth, I haven't found it--and I've looked. Everything else follows the same philosophy. Homemade and carefully sourced pastas. Exceptional antipasti. Beautiful seafood. Wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas. Outstanding steaks. House-made desserts that somehow convince you there's always room for one more bite. The menu reflects the seasons while remaining rooted in authentic Italian tradition, and every plate feels thoughtfully prepared rather than simply assembled. (LaMarea Ristorante) And then comes dessert. You tell yourself you're full. You are lying to yourself. Order dessert anyway. Trust me. What makes La Marea truly special isn't just the exceptional food or outstanding cocktails. It's the feeling. It's the laughter coming from neighboring tables. It's seeing Juliana greeting guests with genuine joy. It's Nino making the rounds. It's the staff working together like a family. It's that rare restaurant where nobody is trying too hard because they don't have to. Everything simply works. Walking out of La Marea feels a little like the ending of Ferris Bueller's Day Off. You don't want the experience to be over. You're already planning your next visit before you've even reached the parking lot. Five stars don't seem like enough. If Michelin awarded stars for making people genuinely happy, La Marea would need a new constellation. Bravo, Juliana. Bravo, Nino. Bravo to the entire staff. And Brad... keep those cocktails coming. I'll happily continue my very serious research. Highly. Enthusiastically. Deliciously recommended.
