My good friend lives nearby, so we come here often. Mandy is the best; super friendly; when she sees my friend coming, she automatically brings out the "usual" - a big glass of iced tea! The location is pretty good. It's in the nice area of Carmichael but it's also extremely close to Arden Arcade. And by extension, Watt Ave. That sentence should speak for itself. The service is good. The host was nice. Our server was attentive and friendly. Our food took about 15-20 minutes to come out but it's totally worth it. The ambiance inside really feels like a corner cafe that also has a dive bar in it. They play nice classic rock/pop inside and they have nice decor. The complimentary bread they serve here is amazing. The cranberry walnut bread is p h e n o m e n a l. Quite honestly, it is one of the main reasons my family comes to eat here. The flavor of my garden burger was by far one of the best I've ever had. I'm not sure if it was because I was extra hungry but the burger was so juicy and savory. It left me speechless. I truly have no words to describe how delicious the burger was but wow. The bun was tasty beyond my wildest dreams. It had me licking the juices off my plate. I was in a food coma directly after finishing my food. Top 5 meals I've ever had in my entire life for sure. Our pumpkin cheesecake was really good. It's a little slice for a full price though :( The prices might be considered kinda steep. I'm putting this place at a $$$ because it's pretty hard to walk out of here under $40 for a dinner for two. I came to Bella Bru café on a Friday morning for a quick bite to eat. I had heard of this place for several years, as my dad and his friends frequent it for brunch. I decided to order their breakfast burrito with chorizo. The burrito itself was quite large and filling. Bella Bru had been recommended to my friends and me from a spot in Sacramento, so we knew we had to check it out when we were in the area. The cafe is at the end of a strip mall and has some decent outdoor seating (albeit with the parking lot and major road as your view). The woman taking our order was very confused when we asked her what smoothie was the best. Her answer was pretty convoluted, and she changed her answer a few times, so we were pretty much on our own to pick. I went for the Bella Berry Antioxidant Shake, which was actually surprisingly excellent and refreshing. I went back up toward the end of our stop to get a snickerdoodle cookie. However, while I was ordering, a few folks behind the counter were all talking about how they were getting sick. Cool story, bro. Do yourself a favor and don't talk about how your whole staff is getting sick in front a customer who is ordering food. Cookie was good, though. The service the girl gave me made me want to come and order again So, I went in again a day or 2 later and might I say my service and recommendation was not as nice. We came here with the kids for a bite to eat on New Years Eve. There were a couple larger parties there. They sat us down. It was storming outside I asked for an outdoor table! Lol We ordered our food and apps. They brought out the apps and of course we got the grilled artichoke! Sooooo good! Then just before our dinner was heading out. The power went out! Just got off work,, I have a very demanding job. And I am 70 yrs old, it's difficult sometimes. Sometimes just want to sit and BREATH, before the long drive home. Stopped here for a iced coffee. ( it's warm, and not good at all, melted ice. ) But I don't really care that the coffee was awful, I care that I was treated awful. Both at the register and by the counter where I was TOLD TO WAIT, by the clerk who thinks he's something. I cannot return here. Once the board came out I was highly bothered they served it with pita bread burnt tasting and flaky burnt yuck! Paired it with a tomatoe jam *interesting* not good at all. YUM!!! My friend and I meet at Bella Bru for lunch every couple of months. I've had some great salads and sandwiches on previous visits. But today I decided to try the French Dip. I was a little leary not knowing what the meat would be like. I've ordered at other restaurants and been disappointed. All I can say is WOW! The French Dip Sandwich is the best I've had in years!! The bread was soft, fresh and tasty. The Roast Beef was thinly sliced and super tender. This sandwich was sooooo good. If you venture out to Bella -- try the French Dip, you won't be disappointed. And lastly a quick shout out to Oscar at Bella Bru. Oscar is a true asset to Bella Bru and I hope management realizes this. I've been numerous times for breakfast and occasionally for lunch. Half of the restaurant is for ordering at the counter & seating yourself, the other half is more of a sit-down service. Both are great, just depends what you're in the mood for. Sometimes the service can be slow, I think they tend to only have one person staffed at the bar serving everyone, the staff are great so that might be a management issue. When I told the waiter, they told me the recipe HAD changed, but offered nothing in return, like, even a cookie. Daughter, granddaughter and I went there for breakfast since it was my granddaughter's last day of school and she was out early. We went to the counter and ordered one egg/ bacon bagel, two orders of French toast and a plate of breakfast potatoes...$47.00. The manager and a young employee served one plate of waffles,potatoes and the bagel. The bagel was not even warm. I took it in and heated it in the microwave inside and then it tasted pretty good. They said they would be back with a second plate of waffles. By this time at least 10 min went by. My daughter who ordered the waffles already had finished all the potatoes which she had wanted with her waffles. I went inside and asked are the waffles going to be delivered anytime soon? The manager checked with the cook who said he burnt the waffles. Manager said he could refund the money or have another waffle made for her. By this time we were almost done eating. The manager said he could make her another waffle so it took another 10 minutes and the waffle was delivered. This waffle was not even cooked properly when my daughter went to cut it. It literally just separated. My daughter said it was like eating air/nothing. Nothing like the waffles that my granddaughter had just eaten. The manager did refund half her money which was seven dollars for these expensive waffles that tasted awful but to me, he should've refunded the whole amount of the waffles. He did offer, but of course my daughter was hungry which is why we went there to eat. She had no idea they were going to come out as they did so something was definitely wrong here this morning. They did not even seem to care. It's not the first time of us eating at this restaurant, but certainly it will be the last time. read more

Had lunch here on Wednesday...We try to support Bella Bru as a local business and do so 2-3 times a month for breakfast or lunch. The food is generally good...my one consistent comment is the fries are cold and hard...tasting old. I love their green salad and what I think is a raspberry balsamic vinaigrette...so good. Ordered and picked up a pumpkin pie on Wednesday for Thanksgiving. When I got home, the crust was crafted lovely but white..not brown at all...this picture doesn't really capture it. I've never seen a crust like that. The filling was very good, actually really good...crust on bottom was soggy. I wish I had looked at the pie while I was still there...probably won't pre order pies again:( I gave them 4 stars...as you can see they are really trying and the service is generally very friendly and good. read more

Was seated immediately and then waited for 15 minutes before deciding to flag down a waitress to get some water .. She said oh let me get "your" waitress .. Another five minutes go by ...She finally shows up .. "Oh has no one got your drink order" .. Ummm nope .. Ok let me get drinks started for you .. Bloody Marry's are $7.00 and mediocre at best .. (Seriously I'm being nice here) In the process of our 45 minute breakfast our server checked on us once .. And this place isn't even busy .. It's too bad as this place has potential the outdoor seating is awesome .. I do t think we will be back. Maybe one day I'll get my food and get to "yelp" about it! ... Still waiting .. Wait !!! Lunch review... the French dip was good, loved the taste of horse radish in the sandwich & the side of fries were skinny and yum. Maybe I shouldn't have ordered a "salad" but I really didn't care for the Asian noodle salad. It was all noodles and some sprigs of cabbage tossed in a thick syrupy sweet/tangy dressing. Sunday morning, 10:30. We arrived to find two people waiting in line to order. One cashier. Of about 20, or more tables inside, 7 were dirty with dishes, glasses, etc... The others were busy with patrons. Outside, most tables were full, however there some dirty tables. I grabbed an empty bus tub, from the bus station and bussed my own table. There was one young man struggling to bus tables and serve food, clearly overwhelmed. We've been coming to Bella Bru since it was opened years ago, but of late, the service has been lacking. Liz, is it a many of not being able to find good people who are willing to work, or is it a wage issue? Most of your patrons, including myself, wouldn't mind paying a little extra in order to keep the same good vibe, and service. I recently placed an order online for takeout and was extremely disappointed with my experience. The menu listed on the partner website used by the restaurant was not accurate and I received a different order than what I had intended to purchase. When I called to address the issue, the person I spoke with was rude and dismissive, and even implyed that I was lying about not receiving my drink. I have attached pictures to show the discrepancies In the menus. Both menus had the crab cakes but the sides are completely different. The one I wanted was jasmine rice NOT peppers. This was not hard at all to resolve, but the person I spoke with was too busy telling me I was wrong and a liar to help me. Overall, poor service and a disappointing experience.
