We booked the massage and dinner package as well as renewed our vows in front of the mansion. I cannot say enough about the amazing experience we had during our time here. Paul was an amazing host! He puts in a lot of details into making the experience one to remember. We have never stayed at a bed-and-breakfast so we were completely surprised by how wonderful and elegant the mansion was. On Thursday when we arrived, we had our scheduled massage, followed by our ceremony, and a private dinner in the dining room. Paul even took some pictures of us and gifted us with a beautiful framed picture of me and my husband. On Friday morning, we met some wonderful guest during our breakfast, and headed out to downtown Galena. Our breakfast was an excellent and tasty homemade breakfast, so much so, that we were so excited about breakfast the next day. Although Paul is basically the face of a mansion, his wife and employee work just as hard to make it an overall beautiful experience. We will definitely be back! We know that we have other options, but we cannot say enough about this place and want to continue to support Paul like he supports and tends to his customers. Paul and family, thank you so very much for making our 10th anniversary as memorable as you did.

Stayed here for a two-night getaway weekend to Galena. It proved to be a great choice. Jordana…read more(innkeeper) was welcoming and friendly. Our room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. Our bathroom featured a claw-foot freestanding tub, which was fine for us but could be a challenge for older or mobility-challenged guests. The happy hour at 5:00 each evening offered wine and a simple cheese plate, which Jordana prepared. Breakfast each morning was a full 3-4 courses, which was really delicious and served promptly at 8:30. We enjoyed chatting with other guests at breakfast and learning about their adventures in Galena. Communication with the Inn was frequent and easy. Note that the former "Potting Shed" is now a Sauna space. The Inn is within about a 15-minute walking distance of downtown, and a 10-minute walk to Grant's home. Great stay, highly recommended.

The front desk staff was polite enough. The room was terrible, it smelled strongly of urine, mildew, and probably dog. There were dogs barking in nearby rooms, and the sink and shower did not drain. The beds and bedding were of poor quality. Trucks on the highway outside the room were loud and sometimes made the bed shake. In the future, unless it was once again the last room available in town, we would never stay here.

When I first saw the listing with the excellent reviews and history of the house I felt this would be a fun place to stay. After spending the four nights my initial feeling was right on. This was the perfect place for our family to stay. Kathy greeted us when we arrived and helped us figure out where to have dinner that first night. We stayed in rooms 10 and 11. Those rooms have their own private bath and are on the second floor. It was as though we had a family apartment. The adults room had a king sized bed and the children shared a queen. Their room had a scavenger hunt within the stone walls, which they really enjoyed. After dinner the boys played table tennis and pop shots basketball. Kathy also treated them to an ice cream cone. Very sweet. There were also plenty of board games to play in the evenings. Breakfast was yummy and coffee aplenty! They do offer WiFi, but no screens, so it is easy to bond with your family and have some quality time together. This location was within walking distance to the swimming pool/park and Pendarvis (which is still closed). It is about a half an hour drive to House on the Rock, Cave of the Mounds, and Taliesin. Lots of fun side stops on the way to any of these places. Kathy is an awesome cook. We feel so fortunate to have met her, Dan, and Bobby Jo on our trip. Mineral Point is a beautiful town and I thank them for preserving and sharing such a wonderful Wisconsin landmark with us.

Train!!!! 3am train We found this on yelp that everyone was getting a kick out of this place so we decided to try it. Called ahead (from across town). The woman on the phone was very kind. Walked into the old fashioned lobby and checked right in without any hassle. Besides the front desk is a small market of choices for snacks incase you forgot something. The woman was friendly again and told us all that we needed to know. She told us about the adjoining bar that opened later that night. The two creepy life sized Native Indian dolls weren't much for conversation. Got in the rather old elevator....It made lots of noises as we ascended to our floor. Using an actual key we went into the room. The rooms decor was like stepping into my grandma house. It actually had a grandparent smell. We cracked up at the size of the "queen" bed. That is not a queen. It was clean though. Minus a couple little things the bed was clean and that's important. There was a mini fridge, a couch, a microwave and about 6 different lamps in our one room. What made me laugh the hardest was the instant coffee maker..The antique. Even had the plastic mini cups holders. Oh I was afraid of setting something on fire. You're adventurous right? Tired of the same old hotels, yea try this one for a whole new experience. Also the bar attached to the hotel has karaoke every night and the staff is very welcoming. Within walking distance of many places to eat.

The water in the tub would not shut off and ran all night. When trying to speak to someone about the room, they did not speak English. The last straw was the cock roach on the floor.
