The room was clean and had a great mattress! Which is so important. Two slight problems that may be specific to the room we were staying in. The padlock on the door was pretty touchy. It took us at least three tries to get into our room each time. I would've much preferred a card key. The second problem we had was the volume on our TV. It didn't work properly. It was very loud, but you could not turn it down, nor could you turn it up. We're pretty tech savvy and we could not figure out how to solve this problem. And since there's no one on site, although the ladies were very good at getting back to us quickly, I didn't feel like walking into an empty lobby at night to try to grab a remote. That was the solution. That being said, it was a lovely stay. And the two women who run the motel are very responsive if you have a problem.

The room is small but adequate for two people. It is nicely decorated and had a small reading nook. There is a small private balcony. The muffins provided for breakfast were yummy! We only had a couple of issues. The first was that the bathroom sink is located inside the room. I'm sure this was necessary due to the limitations of restoring a building this age. Our main complaint was the loud music that was played in the afternoon. I am not sure if this is a regular thing or just rude guests, but it was loud enough we could not rest after our long drive. If this was just rude guests, I can put it down to "people are people." If this was, however, a regular afternoon thing for the Inn, I would suggest the music be turned down or that guests booking Room 1810 be forewarned. All that being said - we think the Inn is a great asset to Mineral Point.

The cottage was once a summer kitchen, and sits a stone's throw from the main house. Both buildings are of the same stonework style that Mineral Point is famous for. The cottage sports two bedrooms, a family room, and a small bath. The plumbing is all modern, with great water temp and pressure, as well as central air conditioning. There is a microwave, a small fridge, and a coffee machine. Several interesting books and knick-knacks line the shelves, and the main bedroom has a cute little shelf of chocolates. Out back is a little garden and beyond that is the Cabin at Cothren. Both have exclusive parking with direct access to the road. The reservation process was great. We booked online, then the owner (who is very pleasant and sociable) contacted us to arrange payment. She processed our credit card through Paypal. A very easy transaction. Our only comment is that we would have liked to have had a little history of this particular property in a printed form, but I'm certain our hostess would have been more than happy to tell us if we had asked. (I later discovered that there is some historical info on their website.) It should be noted that the whole town rolls up their sidewalks pretty early, so plan ahead if you want to eat out locally. Also, note that although Yelp lists this as a bed and breakfast, it is not.

Green County provides a nice getaway, and Albany House is the perfect base for us. There are four bedrooms on the second floor and the third floor is a suite (two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a common area). Their website has pictures of everything so you can see the rooms before you make a reservation. Albany isn't a well-known destination, but if you want to relax, ride your bike on the Sugar River trail, sample lots of cheeses, visit the best brewery in Wisconsin (or any combination of those things), I would recommend checking out this B&B. The breakfasts are fantastic -- enough to get you through most of the day. And now they just opened a cottage (really a vintage bungalow on the Sugar River) across the street with two bedrooms and bathrooms plus a whirlpool tub (in a separate room with a fireplace) and its own kitchen, dining room and living room. It looks really nice (but we haven't stayed there yet).

The staff was very friendly, but our visit started off on a concerning note. When we were checking in, the gentleman at the front desk told me that the pool had failed inspection and that there would be another inspection the next day, so hopefully it would be open that afternoon the next day. Already gross if you can't pass inspection and a bad first impression. When we walked down to our room, there were empty Amazon boxes littering common areas. This place could be featured on hotel hell if it was still running/producing seasons. I was really disappointed with our room. I absolutely LOVE the idea of themed rooms, but ours clearly hadn't been serviced in a long time. It smelled horribly musty, the bed was so thin and uncomfortable that we could feel the wood frame underneath, and the bathroom was gross. My back was really sore in the morning, and it was not a good way to start off a day of hiking. The wallpaper was all peeling and it's clear this room hasn't really been updated in a while. We didn't feel comfortable touching the carpet so we wore our crocs the whole time we were there. Breakfast was mediocre at best. The arm of my chair also broke off as I was trying to pull it into the table. The biscuits and gravy were very cafeteria like and I didn't even want to touch the eggs because they came in the weird shaped circles like the kind you get from McDonald's. My stomach felt really bad after eating breakfast both times so l don't recommend eating breakfast, even if it is included. I lived in a dorm for three years at school, so I'm pretty used to less than ideal conditions, but this even grossed me out. It's clear this place has a lot of really cool history, but it reached its peak a long time ago and I'm sad I wasn't able to see it in its prime. I would've loved to come back, but not for $180 dollars a night. Taxes and fees came to nearly $100, so for two nights and three days we payed $464. 400+ dollars and we didn't even feel comfortable taking our shoes off? Not worth it. As much as I love the themed suite ideas, don't waste your money to get terrible food and dirty rundown rooms.

I was only able to go to the communal area/lobby for the first morning as it was soon closed as they were started to do contactless check in/out. But it seems as though in less COVID-y times they have some coffee or tea there, light breakfast items like mini muffins or breakfast bars and fruit. They also had a communal puzzle and board games. Overall the place is super cozy, perfectly situated for a relaxing vacation with a number of restaurants and small shops to visit in Baraboo.
