We…read morewanted to stay somewhere over night, close enough to Madison, but just off the beaten path so we could get some R&R. We ended up finding Prevailing Winds Lodge, and lucky for us there was 1 room available. 2 days later we had to force ourselves to get back to Chicago for work, but we could have stayed there indefinitely. This place just opened up in May, and it's run by a husband and wife team. I have stayed in many bed and breakfast's over the years, but this was the first time I was blown away. There are 44 acres of prairie on the grounds, including a chicken coop that provides fresh eggs for the guests, exquisite wildlife and hiking paths, a firepit, and breathtaking views all around the property. Indoors a 20+ foot tall stone fireplace, antique organ, and gigantic black leather sofa and chairs, sets the rustic feel and puts you at instant ease and comfort. 24 hours a day guests have access to fresh water infused with different fresh flavors such as lemon, cucumber, or berries grown on the property, as well as freshly baked goods such as scones, bars, and brownies. Detailed wooden furniture and artwork keep your eyes wandering and curious from room to room. As a photographer, this place was a dream come true for me. Now onto what makes this lodge the best bed and breakfast I have ever experienced: the food. It was heavenly. Steve and Jen bake goodies fresh every day. While we were there, we enjoyed brownies, chocolate-caramel granola bars, mullberry scones and muffins, chocolate covered cake balls, and chocolate covered strawberries. We stayed out late and missed turn-down service twice, so Steve brought us the goodies in the morning. Guests also have 24 access to tea and freshly ground coffee. For breakfast day 1, we enjoyed yogurt, granola, and fresh berries as well as freshly baked bread, butter, and mullberry jam. Then Steve asked us how we like our eggs. He ended up cooking us each a pepper, ham, and cheese scramble which was out of this world. He even added jalapeños because I told him how I like my eggs spicy! We were served unlimited bacon and his homemade hash browns as well. Day 2 there was baked french toast with an array of sauces- and there is always fresh squeezed orange juice at the table. On day 2 we had unlimited sugar-cured bacon... And anything you want, Steve and Jen will customize for you. They really put you at ease and make your stay as comfortable as possible. My boyfriend looked at me as we enjoyed some Morrocan Mint tea while watching the sunrise outside on the patio, and he asked me " Did we die? Is this heaven?" Lastly, the rooms are 5 star, possibly the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. And the bathrooms are great too- luxurious soaps and shampoo are provided, as well as lush, cotton robes that we never wanted to take off. So call it a bed and breakfast if you will, but Prevailing Winds Lodge goes above and beyond my high expectations. We felt like Royalty, and there is nothing but great vibes there. If you don't have the time to drive all the way to the Northwoods, you can still have a fantastic view of a beautiful lake, paddle around in a kayak or rent a pontoon, cook out, throw a frisbee, or borrow bicycles and ride into Stoughton (Norwegian bakery!). You can eat at Halverson's, a short walk down the road, and drink too many Old Fashions and walk back to the resort. Their food is great in the old Wisconsin way. You can come by boat or bicycle with a little planning and make a mini-adventure out of it. There are three tiny but efficient cottages and a small, medium, and large guest house. We got Cottage #1 (the one in the photo up on the hill). The cottage has a tiny but full bath and a bedroom. Naturally, you'll spend most of your time on that patio with the awesome view of Lake Kegonsa. The manager Frank is an outstanding fellow who keeps everything immaculate. He also rehabbed all these units so he must be quite a craftsman as well. He went the extra mile for us on a couple of accounts. So 5 stars for accommodations, 5 stars for service, and 5 stars for value.

I was looking for the perfect getaway for my boyfriends birthday when I stumbled upon this place. Lake Kegonsa was never a lake I had heard of until now and boy let me tell you I'm glad I did. This lake is stunning and the views you get of it from these cabins are unreal. It's breath taking to watch the sun rise over the lake in the early morning. Cabin number 2 was our choice for the weekend. The prices were very responsible especially for all the cabin had to offer. It was fully stocked with anything and everything you may need. Don't let the pictures on the website fool you, these cabins are completely updated. New appliances, new TV's and very comfy beds. Lastly, Frank the owner of the property, was very kind and inviting. When we first arrived there he greeted us with open arms at 6pm. Which was very nice because many places offices close at 5pm and he was there all ready for us at 6. He keeps the properties very tidy and presentable. Don't sleep on this place, it's not one that should be missed!!

There are four bedrooms on the second floor and the third floor is a suite (two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a common area). Their website has pictures of everything so you can see the rooms before you make a reservation. Albany isn't a well-known destination, but if you want to relax, ride your bike on the Sugar River trail, sample lots of cheeses, visit the best brewery in Wisconsin (or any combination of those things), I would recommend checking out this B&B. The breakfasts are fantastic -- enough to get you through most of the day. And now they just opened a cottage (really a vintage bungalow on the Sugar River) across the street with two bedrooms and bathrooms plus a whirlpool tub (in a separate room with a fireplace) and its own kitchen, dining room and living room. Upon arrival, it was so helpful to have our own assigned parking spot. As soon as we entered the lobby, Debbie was a delight and greeted me by name; she escorted us to our suite and showed us the amenities and answered any questions we had. The room was clean and spacious, and the grounds along the Sugar River were lovely. We were immensely pleased with our stay. The Seafood Soirée event felt hodge-podge. VIPs didn't get any sort of band to tip off the bartenders that our drinks were free for the first hour; two separate times I heard staff in other areas talking about workers getting placed behind the bar without being trained (one resulted in a coordinator having to comp a bottle of wine as the bar staff was misinformed). So the lines were long, the chairs should have been pulled away from the bar as they got in the way and people tried to sit in them. Trying to meet Andrew Zimmern as a person with manners was difficult as staff didn't even attempt to keep order and people kept budging in without waiting. The food served during the VIP hour was underwhelming. Then we get to 4 pm and walk out to the stations to find the food wasn't ready. Cue milling about. Then the two chef celebrities didn't even speak on time. We eventually left early and went back to our room. So regarding coordinating and hosting an event, they really missed the mark. We would definitely stay at the Inn again, and in fact are already talking about returning. But would we spend a few hundred dollars to attend an event there again? No.

Our rooms had the queen bed, a desk, comfy chair, fridge, microwave, keurig coffee maker, coffee pods and room to walk around. We always have our fold up outdoor chairs with us and we had room to set one up in the room so we both had chairs to sit on and watch TV. The motel is in walking distance for most people to town. You cant take the sidewalks or take the trail behind the motel to get to just about anything in either direction. I mentioned that we were coming to hunt down the trolls and Kari left me a guide with a map in my room. Kari and Mike are great hosts! Friendly, helpful and informative, and very responsive to any question or concern. Keyless entry is great and worked great also. My only disappointment was the TV service in my room. I had local, which is not bad as I was not there to watch TV, but most channels were not clear a lot of the time, it became pixelated. My sister had streaming and local in her room so it turned out well. We will be back, thanks Kari & Mike!!

I would love to write a review about a stay at the Inn, but I can't we never had the opportunity to…read morestay at the Inn. Let me tell you why. On April 3, I went to their site to make reservations.( We were going to a concert in Stoughton on the 11th of April and as part of our Anniversary celebration, we wanted to stay at a nice bed and breakfast. I was re-directed to another site and I went through the process of making a reservation for April 11th.( which also included making sure there was a room available ) including giving my credit card information. I thought it was a done deal. Then I received an e-mail stating that my reservation "request" had gone through and that I would receive a confirmation within 48 hrs and that if I didn't I should contact the Inn. After 48 hrs, I still hadn't received anything from the Inn, so I called. I only got an answering machine, so I left a message to please call me. The next day, still nothing from the inn, so I called and left another message. I began to panic that we weren't going to have anywhere to spend the night, but still, I waited for an e-mail or a call. The next day, I called and left ANOTHER message. Nothing. I left messages every day up until April 8 and there was still no word from the inn and nothing had been charged to my credit card so I assumed the reservation, for whatever reason, had not gone through. I searched the web once more for a b&b in or near Stoughton. The closest thing I could find was 20 miles away and much more expensive, I didn't have much of a choice but to take it. I received confirmation of my reservation of the new inn within 12 hours. All was well until April 10 ( the day before the concert ) I received an e-mail from the Naeset-Roe Inn, confirming my reservation, etc. I immediately got on the phone to the Naeset, but, guess what? No answer. I left a message to please call me and the reason I wanted a call-back. I wrote a detailed e-mail explaining why I no longer needed the reservations and how I had tried to contact them. I thought that was that. The following day, we left for our trip. After our weekend trip, I checked my home phone messages and I had a call from the Naeset, saying we were no shows, etc, etc. I immediately called...no answer. I left a message explaining everything and to call me. After about 10 minutes, we get a call. The inn keeper says that she never got any messages or e-mails from me and that she had called, but was never able to leave a message the whole week (we had received various other messages during the week) and that she had a strict cancellation policy and was going to charge us the entire price for the room. I explained that we had tried to call her all week and she said she was out of town the entire week ( contradicting what she had said earlier that she had tried to call us before ) How would a person have cancelled even if they had wanted to? By the way, was she out of town the previous weekend when I tried to call all that time? She had already told me that she was the only person that works at the inn. Was it closed all weekend and weekdays the previous week? We found out that no, it was not closed. We got our phone records and she had not tried to call us at all, except for the 11th when we were already in Stoughton. She did indeed charge my card for the full amount of the room, but then reversed half back. We have contacted our bank and are in the process of getting the other half back. I don't know what's going on at that inn, but I would just say, be careful that you don't end up like I did. I would never again attempt a stay here and I would give this place no stars if I could, just for the bad business practices. I cannot speak for the inn its self.
