Bedding is a duvet and sheet, very cozy. Grab and go breakfast is simple and good. It included Jimmy dean's breakfast sandwiches, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, fruit and bagels. The coffee and tea station is available 24/7. I live that the water station is large enough for a large water bottle/cup like a Stanley. Would stay here again.

Because the room was booked and paid in advance by my employer, she asked for my last name and driver's license. It's a large room. What I didn't like were all the insects in the room, congregated on the windows and curtains mostly. Flies and lady bugs, more than half a dozen. Some were dead. I like lady bugs, I felt sorry for them, but I couldn't find out how they got in or how to get them out. One was even on the bed comforter. That's the part that lowers my score. At least clean up the dead ones. Aside from the flying insects, the suite reminds me of a studio apartment. It has a king size bed; a sectional couch with a couple foot stools; a flat screen on top of a dresser; desk; and kitchenette. The kitchenette consists of a full size refrigerator; dishwasher; large microwave; countertop stove; coffee maker; and toaster. The kitchen cabinets are filled with ceramic plates; ceramic bowls; wine glasses; glass cups; ceramic mugs; mixing bowls; a glass measuring cup; and salt and pepper in glass shakers. There are even metal utensils in the drawers. All the makings of a home away from home. There's plenty of parking behind the building. When it's quiet, you can see and faintly hear the highway in the background. I rented a car, but the hotel offers shuttle service. There's a book where you write down your room number. The shuttle picks you up and drives you to posted locations.

I'll speak about the positive ones first. Then, I will get to the not so ideal elements. As anybody who's ever stayed at one of the IHG Hotel Suites locations understands, this hotel is made up around the fact that it's a place to live, more than just stay. Meaning, each room, or suites as they call them, comes complete with a large refrigerator, a small stove, a microwave, and all of the cooking utensils: glasses, dishes, silverware, and all of that kind of stuff you would need to create a great meal. Personally, I did not stay at this hotel for that reason. Nor have I ever stayed at a hotel with plans to make my own meals. But, particularly for families, and people who are undercover chefs, this place could be a great place to stay and create an excellent hotel room dining experience. Other than just the culinary focus of the rooms, in this hotel the rooms are very large, very well designed, and they have all the expected necessities that you may want. They have large drawers, so you can put all your stuff in them, a very nice closet, and, of course, a large expanse of bathroom. All of these elements, at this hotel, was All Good. No complaints. The problem I have with this hotel, and it is a big one, is that when I checked into my room, there was a massive amount of flies flying around. Plus, there was a number of ladybugs. It was kind of like a horror movie. I checked... I tried to open the windows, but there's absolutely no way to let those flies out. So, I have no idea how they got in there. My guess, and it is only a guess, is that someone must've opened the lower windows, that have an opening crank on them, to let some natural air in the room, and taken off the screens to clean them or something. Because that's the only way I could see that amount of flies and ladybugs could've gotten in. Now ladybugs, I have no problem with. Flies, on the other hand, nobody wants those things flying around in your room, particularly at night. I had to personally kill at least eight of them, just to stop them from swarming the room. This is completely unacceptable! I believe anybody would have the same reaction to this. Again, I don't know how they got in there, but I do know they were in there. And, I do know I was the one who had to kill them. Unacceptable, unacceptable, unacceptable!!! If it wasn't for that that, I would've given this hotel a much higher rating. The management of this hotel really needs to look into what their staff is doing, and manage them much more precisely. Because I'm sure any guest would've had the same reaction as I did. I will say that on the second night, the housekeeping staff did clean up the dead flies from the windowsill, and the remaining ladybugs. But, as I think we all understand, I should not have had to deal with the flies and the ladybugs upon my arrival on the first night. Other than that, and hopefully you don't have flies flying around in your room, this is an okay hotel to stay at. Yes, it is a bit noisy. I do know that they have tried to keep it more quiet by putting in thick glass and sound damping drapes, but in the later afternoon and into the evening, and especially in the early morning, you do get a lot of street noise. Just FYI. Overall, that's the story. Make of it what you will.

The campground was quiet at night and the seasonal campers were super friendly. The bathroom/shower house was very clean and had plenty of hot water. The staff worked very hard In spite of being so short staffed. The manager Lori was kind and helpful. We rented a golf cart and it was fun and ran well. The park was clean and well maintained. The only thing not perfect was the bed inside our cabin #4. It had a large dip in the middle making sleeping kind of difficult. However floating in that awesome not overly populated pool made it all ok. I highly recommend bringing your family camping there. Whether you have a tent, camper, or choose to rent a cabin. You will have a blast!

I have been going to Blackhawk since I was a little girl. No - I take that back I have probably…read morebeen going to Blackhawk since I was in the womb! Needless to say, for many, many, many years my family made Blackhawk our home-away-from home 3 times a summer. My memories of Blackhawk are all good. There's stories, memories, thoughts and experiences that I would never, ever be able to duplicate anywhere else that I had here. We're talking my first time skinny dipping, hiding in the dryer so my parents wouldn't find me after dark, and seeking cover in the pavilion from tornadoes as we watched the wind and rain rip away and blow around the tents and bits around us. Ahhh, Blackhawk. But this isn't a memoir, so I will stick to the things I know now. "Back in my day" the general store was off the beach, but floods and old age weathered the store and they tore it down. Now the beach looks messy, overused and completely neglected. Campers rarely swim in the lake anymore. This might be because there is now two in-ground pools near the entrance of Indian Village, but I still think the dirty lake is the bee's knees. "Back in my day" the majority of the camp sites were all for transient campers. Now the majority of the campground is permanent sites. There's pros and cons to this. One is that I knew a few people with permanent sites and if you're lucky enough to be in the "in" crowd, you know that having a permanent site and friends all around is like one big family that parties together every single (weekend) night (and the occasional weekday, depending). There is something very special about knowing the right people who have permanent sites here. We're talking late night karting in the woods, drunken bon fires, crazy stories to retell when you're sober in the morning... (Back in my day, they even had a live bear in a cage!) But if you're an unlucky one to not have a permanent site, I can see that Blackhawk would be a pretty boring place if you're in for just the night or two. There's cabins all around now to rent, in Indian Village and near the beach. I've never been inside one and haven't had the pleasure of staying overnight in one, but they look well cared for and large enough for a small family or a group of friends. I love that they put on fun events in the summer, from music to bingo to prom, etc.. It's a fun place if you know where to look, how to get around, and who to hang with. Blackhawk is not nearly as special, clean, or "cool" as it once was when I was younger, but I give it 5-stars because it holds a very special place in my heart. It used to be family run and it was clear they all cared for the grounds well; the point is, they cared. You can tell it's changed hands a few times and even the restaurant is owned by someone separate from the person who owns the grounds. Things seem much more disjointed now then they ever were. My suggestion: stay in Indian Village, on a water site, bring flip-flops for the showers by the beach, bring a comfy chair to people watch, bring a cooler full of beer, ignore the dirty water and dive in to the lake. This place is it!
