They are always available should you need anything. Most likely you won't need much because they have anticipated everything you could need and have done so with detail and care. We arrived later in the evening and they helped us find restaurants we could get delivery from since we were tired and didn't want to go out after the long drive. They greeted us with a complimentary brownie upon arrival. We slept well, much more comfortably than I usually do in hotels or stays away from home. You get a choice of many delicious breakfast items to choose from. They serve all kinds of food including vegan. They have their own veggie garden and use many homegrown veggies and herbs in their dishes. We had a tasty vegan frittata one morning and a tofu scramble the next. Served with vegan sausages, breakfast potatoes, fruit salad and unlimited coffee or tea. Other guests chose bacon, waffles, and eggs, etc. There's a Keurig machine, an ice maker and fresh water available 24/7 as well as a fridge with soft drinks. There is a gorgeous pool there! Unfortunately I forgot my swimsuit so we didn't try it but we will next time for sure. Other guests had a lot of enjoyment there. The grounds are lovely with gardens, seating areas and an outdoor fireplace. There's also a basketball hoop. Not only are the accommodations comfortable and homey, the owners are warm and friendly and we had wonderful conversations with them and fellow guests. We actually spent a couple hours lingering after breakfast because we all enjoyed the conversation so much! We admired their beautiful art on the walls as well. This is clearly more than a B&B for Karen and John, this is a dream come true and a definite passion project. They truly put their heart and soul into this property and it shows and is felt. We will definitely be back and will bring our kids as well. This place is a gem.

The gourmet breakfast is really tasty and served on china with real silver utensils. The gardens are delightful. The innkeepers are friendly and welcoming. There are wonderful original pictures and tapestries adorning the walls and interesting sculptures intermixed with the antique furnishings. There are so many windows that reveal the lovely views nestled in this very private estate. So many places to sit on patios outside, too. The entire property has a welcoming vibe so you really do feel relaxed and at home here. My stay was awesome and I will be returning.

We…read morewanted to stay somewhere over night, close enough to Madison, but just off the beaten path so we could get some R&R. We ended up finding Prevailing Winds Lodge, and lucky for us there was 1 room available. 2 days later we had to force ourselves to get back to Chicago for work, but we could have stayed there indefinitely. This place just opened up in May, and it's run by a husband and wife team. I have stayed in many bed and breakfast's over the years, but this was the first time I was blown away. There are 44 acres of prairie on the grounds, including a chicken coop that provides fresh eggs for the guests, exquisite wildlife and hiking paths, a firepit, and breathtaking views all around the property. Indoors a 20+ foot tall stone fireplace, antique organ, and gigantic black leather sofa and chairs, sets the rustic feel and puts you at instant ease and comfort. 24 hours a day guests have access to fresh water infused with different fresh flavors such as lemon, cucumber, or berries grown on the property, as well as freshly baked goods such as scones, bars, and brownies. Detailed wooden furniture and artwork keep your eyes wandering and curious from room to room. As a photographer, this place was a dream come true for me. Now onto what makes this lodge the best bed and breakfast I have ever experienced: the food. It was heavenly. Steve and Jen bake goodies fresh every day. While we were there, we enjoyed brownies, chocolate-caramel granola bars, mullberry scones and muffins, chocolate covered cake balls, and chocolate covered strawberries. We stayed out late and missed turn-down service twice, so Steve brought us the goodies in the morning. Guests also have 24 access to tea and freshly ground coffee. For breakfast day 1, we enjoyed yogurt, granola, and fresh berries as well as freshly baked bread, butter, and mullberry jam. Then Steve asked us how we like our eggs. He ended up cooking us each a pepper, ham, and cheese scramble which was out of this world. He even added jalapeños because I told him how I like my eggs spicy! We were served unlimited bacon and his homemade hash browns as well. Day 2 there was baked french toast with an array of sauces- and there is always fresh squeezed orange juice at the table. On day 2 we had unlimited sugar-cured bacon... And anything you want, Steve and Jen will customize for you. They really put you at ease and make your stay as comfortable as possible. My boyfriend looked at me as we enjoyed some Morrocan Mint tea while watching the sunrise outside on the patio, and he asked me " Did we die? Is this heaven?" Lastly, the rooms are 5 star, possibly the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. And the bathrooms are great too- luxurious soaps and shampoo are provided, as well as lush, cotton robes that we never wanted to take off. So call it a bed and breakfast if you will, but Prevailing Winds Lodge goes above and beyond my high expectations. We felt like Royalty, and there is nothing but great vibes there. Cannot wait to return again, and again!

Nature had delicately coated…read morethe mansion and grounds with snow that created a sparkle like diamonds dancing in a grand ballroom. My curiosity and excitement to be inside this enchanted mansion turned to delight and grandeur when I crossed the threshold. Our Host and Innkeeper, Tom Boycks, greeted us with his charming smile and genuine welcome. At that moment I knew that I had entered a very special place, because I no longer felt like a weary traveler, but was transformed into a royal that has just arrived at the grand ball. Tom guided us through the breathtaking lower level, describing each room and sharing stories that furthered solidified that the Fargo Mansion was the grandest of mansions. We continued our tour to the second floor where the five beautiful and thoughtfully designed guest rooms were located. Each room has its own luxurious, marble bathroom with bathrobes and toiletries. Furniture and decor placement made each room appear grand and spacious. The room that we were staying in had a lovely sitting area that I found myself drawn to. The spot was so relaxing that I just sat there listening to the classical music that flowed through the air. My quiet meditation was ended when my daughter asked what I was doing. She was in shock that I could just be sitting there doing nothing (not even looking at my phone). Tom had provided us recommendations for our evening meal, which was much appreciated since we were not familiar with Lake Mills, WI. The evening wrapped up with relaxing bliss as we snuggled under the cozy bedding and enjoyed watching our favorite shows on the flat screen in our room. When I woke to the sound of my alarm I was greeted with delicate streams of sunlight shining through the lace curtains. My usual morning stumble to the bathroom was more like a waltz, I knew that the day was going to be amazing. I enjoyed an energizing shower (the water pressure and temperature was perfect). Now invigorated and dressed, I walked down the grand staircase to the glittering dining room where Tom greeted us with a warm "Good morning." The dining table was set for royalty and the breakfast that graced the plates was delicious. I was saddened to take the last bite and drink the last sip of my cranberry juice, because I knew that my visit was about to end. With my bags in the car and sadness in my heart, I said good-bye to Tom. A hug and a see you soon, sealed the deal... I would be back and soon. I pulled out of the drive with a smile on my face, because my reservation was made for my next visit. If you are looking for a life-changing place to visit then you must make your reservations for the Fargo Mansion in Lake Mills, WI. You will be so glad that you did.

Price was reasonable. We definitely look forward to visiting again!
