My curiosity and excitement to be inside this enchanted mansion turned to delight and grandeur when I crossed the threshold. Our Host and Innkeeper, Tom Boycks, greeted us with his charming smile and genuine welcome. At that moment I knew that I had entered a very special place, because I no longer felt like a weary traveler, but was transformed into a royal that has just arrived at the grand ball. Tom guided us through the breathtaking lower level, describing each room and sharing stories that furthered solidified that the Fargo Mansion was the grandest of mansions. We continued our tour to the second floor where the five beautiful and thoughtfully designed guest rooms were located. Each room has its own luxurious, marble bathroom with bathrobes and toiletries. Furniture and decor placement made each room appear grand and spacious. The room that we were staying in had a lovely sitting area that I found myself drawn to. The spot was so relaxing that I just sat there listening to the classical music that flowed through the air. My quiet meditation was ended when my daughter asked what I was doing. She was in shock that I could just be sitting there doing nothing (not even looking at my phone). Tom had provided us recommendations for our evening meal, which was much appreciated since we were not familiar with Lake Mills, WI. The evening wrapped up with relaxing bliss as we snuggled under the cozy bedding and enjoyed watching our favorite shows on the flat screen in our room. When I woke to the sound of my alarm I was greeted with delicate streams of sunlight shining through the lace curtains. My usual morning stumble to the bathroom was more like a waltz, I knew that the day was going to be amazing. I enjoyed an energizing shower (the water pressure and temperature was perfect). Now invigorated and dressed, I walked down the grand staircase to the glittering dining room where Tom greeted us with a warm "Good morning." The dining table was set for royalty and the breakfast that graced the plates was delicious. I was saddened to take the last bite and drink the last sip of my cranberry juice, because I knew that my visit was about to end. With my bags in the car and sadness in my heart, I said good-bye to Tom. A hug and a see you soon, sealed the deal... I would be back and soon. I pulled out of the drive with a smile on my face, because my reservation was made for my next visit. I booked The Everson Room. The house is easy to find as it is right on the main road south of town. It was set far enough back though, so traffic noise was not a problem. Guest parking is in the rear of the house. The guest entrance is in the front. So you get to go for a short walk to get from one to the other. After ringing the doorbell, we were met at the front door by Terri, the innkeeper. She cheerfully got us checked in and gave a quick tour of the house. The house smelled of baking cookies. Sweet Autumn Inn is much smaller than some of the bed and breakfasts that I have stayed at, but let's just call it cozy. It felt very intimate, like I was visiting my mother's house. There are only 3 guest rooms, so it is not like the place was crawling with people. During my stay I only saw one other couple and that was at breakfast. The Everson room was lovely. It was tastefully decorated with just enough old fashioned charm to make you feel comfortable without feeling like you were in an old antique store. There was enough room to move around, but not a lot. The attached bathroom was clean, but basic. It didn't really match the character of the rest of the room. The bed was very comfortable and I slept wonderfully. The room came with its own window unit A/C and a ceiling fan so I was able to get the temperature to be just what I wanted. There was not a TV in the room. This was not a big deal to me, but some people need one. (There was a TV downstairs in a common room.) I didn't spend a lot of time in the house because we had plans to visit Tyranena Brewing. It turns out that when Terri is not running her wonderful B&B, she works part-time for Tyranena. She was very enthusiastic about the beer and gave us some tips before we headed out. Breakfast was served promptly at 9AM in the dining room. Terri had asked us the day before if we had any dietary restrictions or special requests. Since we are not picky eaters, we assured her that we would love whatever she served. Breakfast was delicious. There was a selection of juices and coffee. We started with some fresh berries and a dollop of honey yogurt. Then a hazelnut pastry, before jumping into the main course which was some kind of multilayer baked version of french toast with bits of ham in it. We ended our stay by chatting with Terri about beer, the house and Lake Mills in general. She was a very engaging host, which always makes a B&B stay even better. Overall, I would definitely recommend Sweet Autumn Inn and I know where I will be staying the next time I am in Lake Mills.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by Heather who explained the property's amenities, as well as reviewing a substantial menu with food and beverage choices for the breakfast the next morning. We stayed in the spacious Heywood Hardy Suite with a comfortable king size bed, large ensuite bathroom, a separate sitting room and a deck. The bed was very comfortable and the room was spotless. Heather and Tom serve breakfast to all of their guests at a specific time. Everything is fresh and made to order from your menu choices. Guests are seated at tables of four, and it was delightful getting to know there others staying at the inn. The property is beautiful and there is a field with a horse, sheep and other animals. Heather and Tom make you feel right at home. They're friendly, and love to talk, but they're not intrusive. We enjoyed our relaxing stay at the Red Speckled Inn. I highly recommend it.

They provided so many touches to make it a fabulous stay-- chocolate, toothbrushes, bubblebath, even flowers! We opted for brunch and received a HUGE tray of food-- bread, muffins, fruit, sausage, cheese, juice. We didn't see many of the animals but heard the rooster :) The history of the building is awesome, too. But I won't share it here- since you should go find out for yourself! Finally, the spa has a variety of offerings (steam room, jacuzzi, massages, etc.) and we were able to relax with a soothing couples massage that was well worth it. The location works well as it is only a short drive to downtown West Bend which offers a good selection for meals and shopping. It is also to the Shalom Wildlife Zoo which surprisingly offers a wide variety of animals to observe and take part in a large petting zoo section as well. It's a touch of tranquil in the busy surrounding Downtown. I loved looking at all of the different fauna and flowers. I only wish they had the signs saying what type of plant it was. There are a series of paths, a few fountains, and some nice areas where you can relax. They rent out the gardens for parties and weddings. There was a separate carriage house that has bathrooms and facilities to get dressed for events. I am sorry I didn't know about this place sooner. It's really beautiful!
