    House On the Rock Resort

Stayed here for a weekend to visit the House on the Rock. This place was built in the early 90s and…read moreit genuinely still looks like it. For me, this was a very quaint time capsule of when I would go vacationing with my family as a kid. Full disclosure, if you know you're the type of person to prefer a clean, brand new hotel, this will disappoint. You will not like this. You might be more critical and feel it is overall more dirty. If you like the "retro" look, you'll probably be thrilled and love it. Due to the age of the hotel, there's a lot of little things here that you no longer see in modern hotels. Recessed lighting, room divisions between bedrooms (instead of all the beds being in the same room together), a kitchenette with a mini fridge that has an actual freezer! According to my friends, the beds were not very comfortable, but I slept like a baby quite easily. Different strokes etc etc. We used the hotel pool and jacuzzi as well. Again, it's built in the 90s, it's not the newest shining thing, but I stayed cooking in that jacuzzi for several hours (with appropriate breaks, I swear), so I have no real complaints there. The staff was always very kind and attentive. No complaints there. There aren't any branded hotel chains in the area, so if you're not willing to risk it trying out a totally independent inn, the House on the Rock Resort is an excellent choice.

She was overly nice to the folks on the phone while ignoring my wife for over 10 minutes. When she got off the phone she acted as though my wife was inconveniencing her for even being there. She didn't acknowledge ignoring her or being on the phone and just simply said "yes?" in a rude tone as though we had inconvenienced her for being here. She begrudgingly gave our key cards and only gave one word answers or completely ignored anything that was said. Being met immediately with rudeness for simply having a reservation was an immediate turn off. "Becky" or Rebecca really needs to consider a different career. Next comes the state of the hotel. There is a nasty rogue sock in the elevator that should have been the first sign. Then we get to the hallway and there is literally black mold falling from the ceiling. Outside our room is a pile dead bugs. Once we get into our room we see that there is food and popcorn all on the floor. I inspected the bed before sitting on it out of fear of more bugs .. but immediately regretted sitting down after seeing my wife's face. She points at the headboard. ..Which has some substance (let's be honest we know what it is) on it. Like splatter and dripping. This place is disgusting and they have gall to charge over $200 for one night. I'm absolutely appalled and considering sleeping in my car. Will be disinfecting everything I own when I get out of here .. we just really wanted to go see the house for my birthday and traveled all the way out.. what an awful kick off

He did not great me with a smile and ask where we were from or any kind of general niceties. Just, name, then,. I need your card and then plopped the room key on the counter. We discovered the ice machine on our own and laundry room, it looked like another room in the front. Why wouldn't the man have told us this upon check in? Room #2. Clean room, old outdated bedding, mattresses and carpet. I could live with all of that because I brought my own pillow and blanket . It didn't feel dirty. But the smell... it smelled like an old person's home that was closed up and never received fresh air. We brought in our suitcases and walked around to the back of the property to check it out. I wish we would have gotten a room in the back! The grounds were so cute! Gazebo, grills, tables, playground, water fountains, vw bug waterfall. This was what makes the motel unique. It wasn't bad for a small motel in a tiny town. However, the man working there (who could have been the owner) needs to realize he is in the hospitality industry and be hospitable!

Our experience at the Round Barn Lodge was not just about accommodation; it was about being embraced with a level of kindness and care that can only be described as gracious hospitality. Kathleen and Abby at the front desk are not just friendly; they are compassionate souls who went above and beyond to assist us when our vehicle had a minor hiccup during our stay. Our room was both comfortable and spacious, with lovely lighting, plenty of electrical sockets, and a gorgeous fireplace, and it was all immaculate and well-cared for. Everything was in excellent condition; the room even smelled clean and fresh. We had a stunning window view with vertical blinds and a lot of room to move around. Our deluxe King room also held a very nice mini-refrigerator, a microwave, coffee maker and supplies, a lovely and spacious dresser and large mirror above it, and a sizable desk with a matching chair and four electrical outlets above it on the wall to plug in my laptop and chargers. The large bed had two lovely bedside tables with lamps, which were ample enough to set my CPAP on, which was greatly appreciated. There was so much storage space, including a lovely closet with a folding wooden door, hangers, extra pillows, and a luggage holder. The bathroom was spotless, with ample space and a nice shower. We appreciated all the additional amenities that came with our room and could not have asked for better. They have an indoor swimming pool that is up to five feet deep and kept immaculately clean. It was a nice way to relax at the end of a long day. There is also a coffee shop/cafe attached to the hotel that is open in the mornings until early afternoon (it currently closes at 2 p.m.). It is exceptionally lovely to visit. The Round Barn Lodge is a beautiful, family-friendly haven that my wife and I are delighted to have chosen for our vacation. We've stayed in many hotels before, but none have been as friendly and comfortable as this one. If you're planning a stay in the Spring Green area, this is the best value for your money. The rates are not just affordable; they are highly affordable, ensuring that you get the most out of your vacation budget. They have more than ample parking, and it is a very secure hotel in an area with a very low crime rate. They have many security cameras around the lodge to keep an eye on things at all times, and we felt very secure while staying there. It is by far one of the friendliest, cleanest, and most comfortable places I've had the pleasure of staying at, and I can't recommend it highly enough! Thank you so much for making our stay in Wisconsin a great one despite our vehicle troubles and for going out of your way to be kind, respectful, and professional all at the same time. What a fantastic place to stay!

Everything was clean, the girls at the desk all were so nice, pool was well taken care of. And the cute coffee house out front was so good! This will for sure be our new place to stay when we visit. The only "negative" I have to say is that in the family suite rooms upstairs are a little hard to get to. It's a spiral staircase. So if you have little kids or have trouble doing stairs, maybe just book a regular room instead.

When I first saw the listing with the excellent reviews and history of the house I felt this would be a fun place to stay. After spending the four nights my initial feeling was right on. This was the perfect place for our family to stay. Kathy greeted us when we arrived and helped us figure out where to have dinner that first night. We stayed in rooms 10 and 11. Those rooms have their own private bath and are on the second floor. It was as though we had a family apartment. The adults room had a king sized bed and the children shared a queen. Their room had a scavenger hunt within the stone walls, which they really enjoyed. After dinner the boys played table tennis and pop shots basketball. Kathy also treated them to an ice cream cone. Very sweet. There were also plenty of board games to play in the evenings. Breakfast was yummy and coffee aplenty! They do offer WiFi, but no screens, so it is easy to bond with your family and have some quality time together. This location was within walking distance to the swimming pool/park and Pendarvis (which is still closed). It is about a half an hour drive to House on the Rock, Cave of the Mounds, and Taliesin. Lots of fun side stops on the way to any of these places. Kathy is an awesome cook. We feel so fortunate to have met her, Dan, and Bobby Jo on our trip. I did not expect the owners to treat me and my wife like honored guests in their own home, but that's how it is. Very interesting husband and wife team who are very skilled at making a rich experience and tailoring the visit to your interests. The coolest part of the stay for me were the happy hours that Dave hosted. We had a lot of fun swapping stories with Dave and other guests who were also up for some good drinks. Breakfast was also pretty awesome. The manor is a beautiful campus that exceeds the verbal description and pictures. Lots of richness in the back story can be gleaned from conversation with Dave. To be honest, we werent looking for a bed and breakfast or a resort like retreat since we came to do some hiking, do some leaf peeping, and do some tourist stuff with a friend. By the time check out came around, we wished we budgeted more time relaxing at the manor. Definitely plan to book here again next time we do a Wisconsin vacation.

It was very charming and well appointed. I loved the binoculars that were in all the rooms so you could watch the birds and other wild life on the grounds. There was also a hydro spa tube in the private bathroom which was so relaxing. Overall a fabulous place for a getaway! This was an amazing girls weekend! We are planning on returning next year!

Bathroom was very clean, especially the tub. The bathroom mirror rocked! Breakfast was not lousy tasting but basically meh. Donuts were mini chocolate hostess ones and only 3 or 4 in the container. Muffins were mini ones as well and again just a few. Sausage was nuked brown and serve that were super pale. Eggs were decent as were the bagels. English muffins were tiny and they had regular sliced bread. I was suspect of the cream cheese not kept on ice or at least cool. A few sad envelopes of oatmeal. I was reminded of early hotel breakfast days. Just felt sad.... I went to get a yogurt out of the fridge and there were only two in there. How about more? And why not some nice danish? An actual full sized donut? As for the fruit, just a couple of bananas and apples.. again, they seemed to do just enough to get by. We ate there twice and then skipped out to Country Kitchen for breakfast. Honestly, just okay. I appreciated the cleanliness but it felt closer to a Super 8 vs a Best Western.
