Everything there was perfect except for one big thing. Staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the area which was extremely helpful. Breakfast was much better than average for a free hotel breakfast. The room was very clean and neat. Beds were fine. Now here was the big problem. The wing we were in was extremely musty to the point I was getting concerned about what I was breathing in. I think the ac unit just added to the problem. Ended up sleeping with the window open......which not everyone would feel comfortable doing. Now when I mentioned it to the staff they did offer me a room a few doors down but that room did not smell a whole lot better.....apparently nothing else was available. Now it had been extremely hot with high humidity the several days before our arrival. The hotel had fans going in the hall which was our first clue there was a problem. This rather funky inn was a great place to stay - quiet, peaceful, very clean and comfortable - plus, great service and fantastic hot breakfast! In addition to a really nice pool they have a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna, plus a fire pit out front and a bar inside. It's very close to Taliesin and has very reasonable rates. This place is great. It is a Frank Lloyd Wright lovers motel. There's so much to say about it. First off, the beds are comfortable and bedding is very clean. The last place I stayed was a Super 8, and this feels like heaven compared to that. The halls are lined with Frank Lloyd Wright drawings, and photos of his buildings. There's a lovely lounge with large windows and multiple bird feeders outside. It is known as the "Bird Room". The breakfast was good too. They have the typical motel food; cereals, yogurt, toast, coffee, etc. But then also have something warn, like eggs and sausage. When we were there, they also had a pastry called kringle. It was good! For us, the best part was probably the pool area. It is indoor and a very nice 84 degree temperature. There's also a hot tub, sauna, steam room and exercise room. We spent hours in the pool each day. The inn is just down the road from both Taliesin and The House on The Rock. It only took us about 5 minutes to get to Taliesin for our tour. read more

A perfect place to stay if you are visiting Taliesin. Not merely because of the proximity, but because the building (both the original and the expansion) were done by Taliesin, the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, and Charles Montooth (an apprentice of Wright's). So you've got that vibe! The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Audrey, who checked me in, gave me excellent advice on finding a place to dine (they do not serve dinner, but do have a bar), and pulled out a map to draw directions for me to different places. My room was quiet and comfortable, with free WiFi. Breakfast is included, and while I am not a big breakfast eater (I'm generally happy with toast and fruit), there would have been plenty to satisfy me if I were. It is served in the reception area and you can eat there, or take your tray to the lounge and enjoy the view of the garden and bird feeders. There's a fitness room and pool, which I did not use (too darn tired!), but it's nice to know they're there. If I'm ever in the area again, I'd definitely stay here. read more

We had an excellent experience at the Spring Valley Inn. Cool Frank Loyd Wright architecture and theme throughout the Inn. The proprietor is excellent, and the setting is calm and relaxing. Fabulous and healthy free breakfast and an evening bar. You can also buy beer to go on the premises. I would highly recommend it to both local and national travelers. read more

I remember a trip to Spring Green when I was a youngster in the mid 80s and was almost certain we had stayed here during that visit. Well, if this was in fact the place we stayed, it was evident nothing was updated since then. Other than the pool and their small pub, this place was thoroughly disappointing. The main building hallway has a strong, pungent odor of something that was used or in use to cover-up both an unknown unpleasant odor and the damp mustiness that permeates throughout. I have stayed in better military facilities. Our antique keys did not work to access their outdated fitness room. And their drive-up entry way is dangerous, since it is difficult to see vehicles coming through from the building's rear parking lot. I realize Spring Green is rather remote and small; I recommend staying closer to Madison and exploring the area if vacationing. read more

Very nice looking inn, in the style of Frank Lloyd Wright. Lots of beautiful flowers and shrubs. We loved the pool, whirlpool, sauna, and steam room! I feel it's out of line giving a 1 star review based on the smell of the hallways. I probably stayed at 100 hotels, motels, ships, etc. in my life, many of which were expensive with high reviews, and most have some sort of odor in the halls, many worse than this. Our room was fine and clean. It's a smaller room though, no couch, but 2 chairs and a small table. There's also a small fridge, coffee maker, hair dryer, and possibly more. The breakfast was about what I was expecting, with choice of 2 or 3 cereals, bread to toast, eggs, sausage, and fruit, probably juice(s). The coffee was very good! No complaints for free. p.s. The House on the Rock smelled a lot worse than this place. But it's still very interesting, and I'd only knock 1 star off because of the odor, 2 at the most. Sadly, I'm losing faith in humanity. read more

We stayed here for 2 days while visiting Taliesin and the House on the Rock. Both sites are only a few miles away. We had a wonderful stay -- the rooms are small but comfortable, with fridges and other amenities. The property is family-owned and we had great interactions with every staff member we talked to. Audrey even tried to light a huge bonfire in the fire pit for just the two of us our first night (which didn't work, but it was a wonderful gesture). Contrary to some of the other reviews, we didn't encounter any musty smell or other odors anywhere in the motel. The hot breakfast was high quality, filling, and delicious. The pool area is large, has separate locker rooms and a sauna, and is roomy enough for lap swimmers. The fitness room is equally large and has all-new equipment, with machines and free weights. I am a frequent business traveler and this property's pool/gym amenities are better than 90% of the name-brand places I stay. Our only disappointment was that we had to drive to Spring Green to eat. If the Inn reopened its restaurant again, we would definitely try it. In any case, we heartily recommend the Spring Valley Inn and will definitely stay here again the next time we're in the area. read more

Wow what an amazing first time trip to Spring Green thanks to the spring valley inn! Firstly, prices were excellent. I stayed with my friend for a weekend and honestly I am so happy we found this place. They greeted us warm and friendly with a welcoming spot at the bar. Great staff all so helpful and so very nice, friendly and professional manager Brenner. The beds were so comfy and the rooms were just recently updated and looked great. The pool, sauna and hot tub were the best part of all. The out door lounge area is beautiful as well. Overall we had a wonderful stay and we will be back again. read more

I travel a bunch for my job, and I'm usually hesitant to stay at any hotel that doesn't have a corporate name due to past experiences. Lets just say I had a few places that looked really good on the outside and the inside of the room turns out to be pretty gross. (I've actually left one right after getting to my room and didn't even try to get a refund from the front desk - it was that bad). I was hesitant to give this place a try, but since I was in the Spring Green area doing all of the touristy things there are to do there (House on the Rock, Frank Lloyd tour, etc...) I decided to give this place a try. Boy am I glad that I did. This place was super clean, had nice furnishings and a beautiful indoor pool/spa area. They have an awesome little restaurant at the front of the hotel and it was excellent as well. Not many places to eat (after dark) in Spring Green, so that is another consideration if you don't want to drive after dark. If you are in the area and looking for a clean and friendly place to rest your head - don't hesitate to give this place a try. I would stay there again in a heartbeat and actually may try to stay a few more days next time to just hang out at this place and relax. I can finally say - skip the chains and give a mom and pop place a try - you won't regret it! read more

Strong odor of Mold/Mustiness throughout hallways and in the room. With a dehumidifier running, AC, and windows wide open the smell did not leave the room. Bathtub was worn - and towels also had the same earthy/moldy smell to them. Staff is friendly, and the location is great for house on the rock. City of Spring Green is a nice small town, would suggest going, just not staying at this motel (wouldn't classify it as an Inn). read more

A reasonable hotel if you are driving through the area or are taking a tour at Taliesin (which is a couple miles down the road). I will say that the hotel staff were friendly and accommodating, and the included breakfast was surprisingly delicious (and plentiful) for what amounted to a roadside motel. However, this is definitely a no-frills place to stay. The rooms and hallways, though clean, could use some TLC, updated furniture and upholstery, better lighting, and, frankly, air freshener (it smelled quite musty in the hallways and mildew-y in the bathroom). Since there is a real dearth of other accommodations so close to Taliesin, I suppose Spring Valley Inn doesn't feel pressure to up their game, but I think they could really draw in more business by making the rooms nicer. read more

We've been going to Spring Green for the American Players Theater for years but this weekend was our first stay at Spring Valley Inn. The outside is GORGEOUS! Beautiful plants, plenty of parking, (the lot is kept up very well and nicely lit), a lovely patio area and water fountain. Inside, the lobby is clean and welcoming. All manner of cold beverage, ice cream treats, and ice are available right there for sale. This is nice, because Spring Green is remote and many things close early. Nice to have that availability on site. The breakfast is aces, the eggs are REAL! My favorite part was the lounge with drinks and desserts. Talk about a step back in time, when travel was meant to be nice and enjoyable! The hotel itself is in the style of Frank Lloyd Wright and they've kept up the over all vibe of the mid century modern. We did not make use of the pool area or the exercise rooms, but we did tour them and they are great! True, there is a bit of a musty smell in the hallways, but that's a combination of the humid weather outside and the pool area inside. The smell is NOT in the rooms, which are comfortable, clean, and have everything anyone traveling could need. Best thing is that the owners are clearly in tune with the APT schedule. So nice to not have to search someplace open for a post play beverage! We will be back, mostly likely yet this year! Ignore the grumpy folks with a one star review for minor things. We stayed at the Spring Valley Inn for one night in June 2013. It's not plush, but it's really nice. We liked that it's a family run business and the staff are very friendly. They provided good information about local attractions and gave us a feel for the warm Wisconsin hospitality. The swimming pool is very nice and large and has a sauna and a whirlpool. It was nice to eat in the comfortable dining area which had tables as well as couches, plus a panoramic view of a lovely bird sanctuary. All in all it was a great place to stay near Spring Green and we would highly recommend it. One last note: it is open seasonally during the warmer months, so call ahead. read more

First time at this inn. When we arrived we noticed some of it was outdated. The reception area could use a facelift (interior design) or some aesthetic touches to make it more inviting. The pool was a nice size for swimming laps (also a sauna and steam room.) However, the fitness room really needed some help. Outdated equipment. There are no refrigerators in the rooms, but there is bagged ice free of charge and they have a cooler in the lobby for some storing of items. Beds were comfortable and the stained glass lamps were a nice touch. The inn was very quiet at night :-) Decided to have dinner here before the theater. Every table was filled. My husband and I had the walleye fry which came with coleslaw and red potatoes. It was all very good. The mushroom ragu appetizer was amazing. Continental plus Breakfast included eggs, sausage, waffles, bagels, cereal and more. Service was prompt and staff was helpful and friendly. I would hope that cleaning staff wouldn't need to leave those envelopes hoping for tips. And the free wi-fi didn't always work in our room. read more

We stayed here this past weekend. Rooms were clean, but outdated. We brought our own alcohol to bring out by their fire pit. We quickly were told that we were not allowed to bring our own alcohol out there because they have a bar. We finished our drinks and then paid $7 at the bar for the worst old fashioned we've ever had. So on top of paying $175 for a not-so-fancy hotel room, you have to spend money at their crap bar. Won't ever be staying here again. read more

This is a great place to stay (read: CLEAN, FRIENDLY) with some cool amenities like a big indoor pool and outdoor fire pit, however, there are a handful of other things that really need attention. The decor is super depressing in the reception area. The bar, while well designed, is poorly appointed with cheap old furniture, in unpleasant colors. The reception area also serves as a mini convenient store which is great but it's not well stocked and it closes at ten. No vending machines on site if you need supplies after 10. Since there aren't any refrigerators in the rooms, they offer space in the reception area coolers which is helpful provided you are in by ten or don't want your items after 10. They have the old fashioned keys and you need them almost every time you go through a door. The OJ at breakfast is orange drink, not juice, yuck. Anyhow, with updates and some attention to detail, this place could be stellar! read more

We had a wonderful dinner at the Spring Valley Inn. We had a party of nine, and everyone enjoyed their food. If you go (and you should), order a mojito. It was made with mint from their garden, and the ingredients were perfectly balanced. My sisters had the Brussels sprout & bacon pizza which was one of the best combination any of us had ever tasted. The staff was very good...prompt, friendly and knowledgeable. All in all, a great dining experience in a very beautiful place. read more
