We visited this beautiful and friendly lodge in Spring Green, Wisconsin, coming from our home in central Missouri on vacation to the House on the Rock. Our experience at the Round Barn Lodge was not just about accommodation; it was about being embraced with a level of kindness and care that can only be described as gracious hospitality. Kathleen and Abby at the front desk are not just friendly; they are compassionate souls who went above and beyond to assist us when our vehicle had a minor hiccup during our stay. Our room was both comfortable and spacious, with lovely lighting, plenty of electrical sockets, and a gorgeous fireplace, and it was all immaculate and well-cared for. Everything was in excellent condition; the room even smelled clean and fresh. We had a stunning window view with vertical blinds and a lot of room to move around. Our deluxe King room also held a very nice mini-refrigerator, a microwave, coffee maker and supplies, a lovely and spacious dresser and large mirror above it, and a sizable desk with a matching chair and four electrical outlets above it on the wall to plug in my laptop and chargers. The large bed had two lovely bedside tables with lamps, which were ample enough to set my CPAP on, which was greatly appreciated. There was so much storage space, including a lovely closet with a folding wooden door, hangers, extra pillows, and a luggage holder. The bathroom was spotless, with ample space and a nice shower. We appreciated all the additional amenities that came with our room and could not have asked for better. They have an indoor swimming pool that is up to five feet deep and kept immaculately clean. It was a nice way to relax at the end of a long day. There is also a coffee shop/cafe attached to the hotel that is open in the mornings until early afternoon (it currently closes at 2 p.m.). It is exceptionally lovely to visit. The Round Barn Lodge is a beautiful, family-friendly haven that my wife and I are delighted to have chosen for our vacation. We've stayed in many hotels before, but none have been as friendly and comfortable as this one. If you're planning a stay in the Spring Green area, this is the best value for your money. The rates are not just affordable; they are highly affordable, ensuring that you get the most out of your vacation budget. They have more than ample parking, and it is a very secure hotel in an area with a very low crime rate. They have many security cameras around the lodge to keep an eye on things at all times, and we felt very secure while staying there. It is by far one of the friendliest, cleanest, and most comfortable places I've had the pleasure of staying at, and I can't recommend it highly enough! A quick weekend in Spring green! We booked the family suite which had a kitchen, living room, bathroom and 3 bedrooms with queen beds. Everything was clean, the girls at the desk all were so nice, pool was well taken care of. And the cute coffee house out front was so good! This will for sure be our new place to stay when we visit. The only "negative" I have to say is that in the family suite rooms upstairs are a little hard to get to. It's a spiral staircase. So if you have little kids or have trouble doing stairs, maybe just book a regular room instead. read more

Booked several rooms in March for a wedding on June, just received a call notifying us that all those rooms were canceled last minute due to renovation. Several of the people that booked those rooms had made flight arrangements to be there and now have nowhere else to stay because everything else in Spring Green is booked at that time. That's why we had our wedding guests book so early. They have offered no solution to this issues. Several of our wedding guests are now out several hundred dollars and no place to stay. If you want to book a room here, be careful and don't expect them to keep the reservations. read more

Called to get a room. The man asked for my social security number over the phone. I said no at first but he insisted that I had to to get a room. When I got there they didn't ask for an ID for the room. Okay but whatever. Also there was a sign that said the hotel... didn't have room cleaning services. That is worrysome. The rooms air conditioner was broken and there were cobwebs all over the corners of the windows. We asked for a late checkout, so they said we could stay until 2pm instead of 11am. We had a do not disturb sign on the door and were woken up by pounding on the door by a woman saying that nobody was supposed to be staying in that room what were we doing there ect... So we went to check out and the person at the desk in the am said there were no late checkout. Also our keys we were given for the room were the ones we stayed in, but opn the computer we were book for a completly diffrent room. I asked about the social security thing, and she said that's weird because they didnt need that to book. I expressed concerned and she shrugged it off and said the young man worki g last night was new. Also the doors to the outside by the rooms disnt have any sort of lock on them so it didnt feel secure. Definitely not worth the $105. Also they apparently don't have a restraunt anymore read more

We stayed here a couple weeks ago for 2 nights. The room was very nice and staff was friendly. Great location across street to supper club Arthurs. The reason for 4 stars is the ADA aspect. Room was supposedly handicapped accessible but the grab bar situation was not good. There were some in tub but my husband is in a wheelchair so of no use. The other grab bars were over the BACK of the toilet. We really struggled. read more

Had 8 Friends book rooms here for a get together and they never told us there hasn't been a pool at this location since May. They keep advertising it to get you to come and when you get there they couldn't tell me what reason other than Covid it was closed. Which we have stayed at many other places during this time and all hotels still have their pools available. They only partially deducted the rate which was almost double all the other places in town. They woke us up at 830 vacuuming the hallway when check out wasnt until 11 am. Also they're staff was yelling room numbers to come clean it at that time as well. Customer service was horrible. And they even lied about what they were going to refund me on my 2 day visit. read more

Round Barn Lodge is a lovely mom and pop motel, and i found it to be very professional, and attractive. It featured a very inviting indoor pool with hot tub, and the bathroom had Jacuzzi jets as well. The room & bathroom were immaculate and welcoming, with a good mattress. The room also sported a large screen TV, microwave, and small refrigerator. There was even a small waterfall in the back area, which attracted songbirds. The Round Barn Lodge doesn't offer a free breakfast, but the food at the attached restaurant looked like a good bet! I see other reviewers mention the lack of waitstaff and I did notice people sitting there, waiting to be served. So if you choose to eat there - or any restaurant nowadays - prepare to wait. Then leave a massive tip when you're done. If you don't like long waits, don't just sit there - pick up something to eat at the gas station. All in all, next time I'm in Spring Green, I'm staying at the Round Barn Lodge. read more

After years of curiosity about this place, I finally had the opportunity to check it out before a venture to the House on the Rock last week. Sadly, I think we were towards the last of a surge of groups of people to arrive. The lone waitress was SLAMMED, I felt so terrible for her. Having worked in the service industry, I completely understood and my party kept our patience, waiting for her to get to us. When she finally did, we weren't too let down. Sure, the service was slow, but that was no fault of her own. When our food FINALLY arrived, it was pretty damn tasty, but it took forever (if at all) to get refills and our check. Another lady showed up to accept payment, I wondered where she'd been the whole time. Same with the girl bussing tables, couldn't she, perhaps, get refills too? They claimed to have free wifi, I couldn't detect it on my phone. The building is huge, my cousin said that there is even a small waterfall in the back area. I would've checked it out, had we not wanted to get to HotR with plenty of time to see everything! I'd recommend for a down home meal or breakfast, but maybe not if you're in any sort of a hurry. read more

Stayed in this hotel over the past weekend and also ate breakfast there. We booked a large "family" room, which had a king bedroom and living area with pullout bed in the couch, as well as a staircase leading to a loft area that had a queen bed and another pullout. There was also a kitchenette. Plenty of room and we liked the fact that it all connected. The room was spacious, though it was not well-cleaned. There were cheetohs left out on the counter that had not been cleaned up after the previous visitors. When we inquired about getting it cleaned, the staff person suggested that we clean it ourselves (even though this was a mess from the previous tenants) since the cleaners had left for the day. There was also a large and rather gross stain on one of the blankets on the upstairs bed. The hotel did provide a $15 discount on the room for these issues with poor cleaning, to their credit. The pool was quite nice. Warm water and not crowded in the morning when we used it. We went to the restaurant for breakfast. The food was generally good and large portions. We had pancakes, veggie scramble, french toast, and eggs. All were tasty. Unfortunately, they were extremely busy during the time we arrived (around 8:30am on Saturday) so we did have to wait quite a while for a table and then again to place our order. The waitress was reasonably nice but it was tricky to get her attention since she had so many people to try to accommodate. Overall, it was a reasonable experience, but I wouldn't go out of my way to stay there or eat there again. read more

Showed up late and needed a room. My friend was not feeling well. Called the number to get service three times. Nobody answered. Waited for over half an hour and searched the place; I finally found the third shift lady. She lied and said she was only gone for 15 minutes. We got the room, it was freezing cold and took a half-hour to warm up. I'm fine with all this, if you expect sub-par service and room quality, for a premium price. What follows is not acceptable and I'm not fine with it... Here's what happened when the third-shift lady heard my voice message I left about the fact nobody was available to help us: The night lady spread rumors to the staff about my friend (who lives locally) that she was drunk. The fact is, my friend was ill and had not had one drink that evening. To allege she was drunk is quite a reach and questionable in terms of the reasoning why this lady would slander an innocent customer? Was it because she heard my complaint about her service, directed for the owner of the establishment to listen to? This is terrible service you'd expect from a pimple-faced teenager who hasn't a social skill; however, this was a grown adult. I called to complain and nothing was done about it - except for the night lady slandering my friend. Might be why she is working nights, but best to keep her opinions at bay, lest the establishment wants a lawsuit. Apparently, this is how a paying customer is treated. I stayed at this place for a month one time, so I'm not a fly-by-night customer. I'm appalled at the way the owner has allowed this situation to be handled, offering no respectful apology or other consideration? Business must be too good to care about the random complaint and transference of ill-repute (character assassination) to a local patron who merely wanted a room to rest her head. You might want to be careful if you care about your local reputation; seems someone trusted on staff is quick to spread lies in a town of fewer than 2000 people. I will not be staying here again. Many other choices in Spring Green with more courteous and respectful employees; not to mention, the outdated room was not worth the money, IMO. read more

Got our reservation wrong (booked two rooms - only had one reserved when we arrived - no availability except across street) and instead of offering to comp the room across the street they said it was our word against theirs. I'm writing about the hotel. I did not try the restaurant. Our room was nasty! The A/C didn't work well, the window was cracked and the main areas and hallway had no cooling (and I would assume no heating in winter). It was 101 degrees outside, so you can imagine how hot the interior was. The room next to us contained people who were up all night arguing and yelling The lock on the exterior door wasn't secure, and in the morning when we left to pack up the car, there was an individual sleeping in the hall on a sofa by the stairs. This is a review of the hotel; the restaurant was closed for the season when we stayed here. We were passing through the area, and this place seemed to be the nicest in the immediate area. Our room was very spacious and nicely done, and the bed was quite comfy. The room had a high vaulted ceiling and actually had one of those "star projector" things that give you the illusion of a starlit night... if it wasn't so bright that the entire room had a greenish laser tinge. It was cute, but we turned it off after a couple of minutes so we could sleep. We like this place, and should we be in the area again, I wouldn't hesitate to book here again. read more

Is this the same as the Hayloft Cafe? Whatever it is called, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. First, our waitress, Michele (who was apparantly also supposed to second as a bartender) didn't know how to make a bloody mary. this she admitted AFTER making them and bringing them to our table. The four of us, quickly returned them after one taste. We ordered different drinks, and one in our party ordered a 7&7, the waitress said 'thats 7up and...'. I don't mind if your waitress doesn't know drinks, just have a bartender working! While we were waiting for those drinks, a young couple came in and sat down. After 10 minutes of no acknowledgement let alone a drink order, the got up and left When we told the waitress that the 2 customers just left she said 'oh I don't care'. She also pointed out that they closed already at 2, so to excuse the bad service. (it was only 1:56pm) She also did not know the special or the soup of the day. She didn't even go ask to find out. Once we did get our food, (all burger and fries), the four of us had to sit back in our chairs due to the overwhelming smell of grease. The fries and burgers must have been cooked in rancid or old/bad grease. The food smelled awful. We were starving and this cafe is kinda in the middle of nowhere, so we ate what we could. All of us left atleast half of our food, and needless to say, the waitress got less than 10% tip. Coming from Madison, expecting a quaint, neat little lunch place and getting that, we left very disappointed. PS: TO ANYONE THAT WORKS AT THIS SAD RESTAURANT: A hot tip for ya- Customers coming in the door and coming back are the only revenue you get. This is how you make money. I have never seen a room this horrible. Yellow stains on our bedspread. The smell was horrible. I think it was from a bug bomb. When we pulled the bedspread back, there were dead bugs in the sheets. The light in the ceiling was full of dead bugs also. When we told the staff, we weren't offered a new room. Rather than stay there, we chose to drive the 2 1/2 hours home at 2 a.m. We were tired when we got home at 4:30 a.m., but it was better than staying in that room and taking the risk of my family getting sick from the fumes. If you are looking for a quiet, calm, clean indoor pool this will do the trick. No bells and whistles, just a clean salt pool and whirlpool. Great for kids and adults and at $7.00 a visit, just a little more than the city pool. Towels, changing room. No lifeguard, but the pool is supervised by the front desk. My wife and I and our friends stayed at the Round Barn Lodge this past weekend. We had stayed here just for a little weekend getaway many years ago and decided to go again this winter. We were pleasantly surprised at the new remodeling going on. We had a large king room that had just been freshly done. It was nice and comfortable with a large flat screen TV, microwave, and small refrigerator. Construction was still going on in some downstairs rooms even on Sunday when we left but they were very considerate of the guests from what I could see. The pool/hot tub area is nice and hasn't changed much from years ago. The pool was warm and the hot tub was a prefect temperature. We lounged in the pool area quite a while on Saturday night. The lodge staff was very accommodating and helpful. We ate breakfast Sunday morning at the attached restaurant and the food was very good. They serve some specialty items that that you don't see everywhere so that was great if you like to try new foods like I do. I tried the Irish Boxty and it was very good. They were very busy and we did wait a bit longer for food than you would like but the server was very accommodating and the food more than made up for the wait. The prices were very fair and the quality and quantity of food were excellent. Over all the Round Barn Lodge was a great experience and we will certainly return again. read more

This listing is inaccurate. The Round Barn isn't a bed and breakfast; it's a hotel with a restaurant adjacent. However, the restaurant is NOT owned by the hotel (at least, not as of this writing). I've stayed at the lodge twice, in Fall 2015 and Fall 2016 -- mostly due to lack of other options in Spring Green. In Fall 2015, our experience was OK but not great; we had to switch rooms due to a leak in our bathroom ceiling and we had to downgrade from a room with a king bed to a room with two double beds because they didn't have any other kings available. Despite that downgrade, we did not receive a lower rate because we'd pre-paid through hotels.com and were told we couldn't get a partial refund. It was disappointing and we wouldn't have gone back if there were any other decent options in our price range. This year, however, our experience was much better. We got the type of room we paid for, the service was wonderful throughout our 3-day stay, AND the lodge had undergone renovations during the year. Our room had a large, new HD TV (it hadn't even been set up yet; it ran the channel scan when we turned it on) and a new bed as well. I could see other signs of upgrades around the property as well. For instance, some cheesy deer statues on the lawn had been removed. I think the lodge is heading in the right direction. For what it's worth re: the restaurant...people have posted terrible reviews about it in 2014 and earlier. Now, it is under new management and is FANTASTIC.
