This is a favorite hotel of ours when we are road tripping to Wisconsin. If you are looking for a quiet getaway weekend, this quaint boutique hotel is your destination. They have a small bar in the lobby area and a great little courtyard where you can sit and relax with a glass of wine or a cold beer. If you are ever near Mineral Point Wisconsin, do not pass this place up!

Beautiful fall weekend getaway stay. Mineral Point is a lovely, historic, artsy town and the MPH is right within short walking distance to the main street galleries, restaurants, and shopping. Parking is on the street, but that wasn't an issue during our stay. The decor is impeccably stylish and comfortable. We felt like we were guests in someone's home, not a hotel at all! Room 1840 is clean, large, and bright with a private patio off the back. The clawfoot tub was beautiful! The room is on the back of the hotel, so it was very quiet. However, there weren't too many guests staying there during our stay so that may have had an impact on the noise level. Snacks, tea and coffee are complimentary and available 24/7 by the front desk. Breakfast is more like a continental breakfast, but there were a variety of grab-and go foods offered (yogurt, fruit, granola bars, breakfast cookies, candy, etc.) which was perfect since we were doing a lot of driving and sightseeing in the area anyway. The price was reasonable for a B&B hotel and check in/out were a breeze. I highly recommend the MPH!

The hotel is cozy and kept impeccably clean and tidy. Within walking distance (albeit uphill) of all the best shops and eateries in town. The friendly, personal service will make you feel as welcome here as you are in your own home. Warm little touches like personalized welcome letters and the coffee and snacks in the lobby are why I'll make the decision to stay here every time I'm in the area.

My wife and I liked this place immensely. The room (the 1840 room, that is) and bathroom are big and sunny. The bathtub is clean, and the water's hot. Breakfast was fresh and simple, along the lines of European-style, but pared down...you get a fresh pastry, multiple varieties of fruit, juice, and high end espresso/coffee/tea. Service is attentive and unobtrusive--it is hands-off, but friendly. The best thing is the aesthetic and feel: the building, the lobby, and the rooms, are crisp, clean, neutral, and tastefully (minimally) decorated. This is the first time I remember staying at a bed and breakfast-type inn without all the doilies, dolls, farm tools, ugly wallpaper, or other rustic stuff usually encountered in Midwest small town inns. I shouldn't fail to mention the bed was very comfortable, too. I recommend it highly.

When I first saw the listing with the excellent reviews and history of the house I felt this would be a fun place to stay. After spending the four nights my initial feeling was right on. This was the perfect place for our family to stay. Kathy greeted us when we arrived and helped us figure out where to have dinner that first night. We stayed in rooms 10 and 11. Those rooms have their own private bath and are on the second floor. It was as though we had a family apartment. The adults room had a king sized bed and the children shared a queen. Their room had a scavenger hunt within the stone walls, which they really enjoyed. After dinner the boys played table tennis and pop shots basketball. Kathy also treated them to an ice cream cone. Very sweet. There were also plenty of board games to play in the evenings. Breakfast was yummy and coffee aplenty! They do offer WiFi, but no screens, so it is easy to bond with your family and have some quality time together. This location was within walking distance to the swimming pool/park and Pendarvis (which is still closed). It is about a half an hour drive to House on the Rock, Cave of the Mounds, and Taliesin. Lots of fun side stops on the way to any of these places. Kathy is an awesome cook. We feel so fortunate to have met her, Dan, and Bobby Jo on our trip. Mineral Point is a beautiful town and I thank them for preserving and sharing such a wonderful Wisconsin landmark with us.

The cottage was once a summer kitchen, and sits a stone's throw from the main house. Both buildings are of the same stonework style that Mineral Point is famous for. The cottage sports two bedrooms, a family room, and a small bath. The plumbing is all modern, with great water temp and pressure, as well as central air conditioning. There is a microwave, a small fridge, and a coffee machine. Several interesting books and knick-knacks line the shelves, and the main bedroom has a cute little shelf of chocolates. Out back is a little garden and beyond that is the Cabin at Cothren. Both have exclusive parking with direct access to the road. The reservation process was great. We booked online, then the owner (who is very pleasant and sociable) contacted us to arrange payment. She processed our credit card through Paypal. A very easy transaction. Our only comment is that we would have liked to have had a little history of this particular property in a printed form, but I'm certain our hostess would have been more than happy to tell us if we had asked. (I later discovered that there is some historical info on their website.) It should be noted that the whole town rolls up their sidewalks pretty early, so plan ahead if you want to eat out locally. Also, note that although Yelp lists this as a bed and breakfast, it is not.

Upon arrival, the front desk clerk was sitting on his phone in the lobby. He was sitting in the same spot when we returned 5 hours later. We ended up getting keys to three different rooms, and it was similar to The Price is Right, except horror hotel edition. Room 1: upon arrival, we set down our bags and left. 5 hours later, we came back to sleep and the room smelled like sewage. Something may have died in the air conditioner or the drain, but I legitimately asked my boyfriend to check the wardrobe for a body. He wanted to switch, so we went to the front desk. Room 2: after a decent interrogation, the clerk found us another room, next to the stink sewage, but we chuckled and tried to stay high spirits. We went back up the stairs and swiped our key, opened the door... and instead of winning a car or a new set of appliances, we won -- A COUPLE IN THE BED. This man gave us the room keys to SOMEONE ELSE's ROOM??? We profusely apologized, those people must have been horrified. I was horrified. We went back to the clerk and he was LAUGHING at what had happened?? Dude seriously? I paid how much for a sewage room and a horrifying experience of walking in on a couple in bed? I asked my boyfriend if we could just sleep in the car. The clerk make an excuse of getting a phone call while we were switching rooms. The clerk tried to put us in the room next to the couple we just violated...and I said please no. He then put us directly BELOW THEM, alright. Instead we headed to Room 3: I just wanted water, and to cry. I went to use the bathroom, and the toilet was full of brown water and silt, perhaps the source of smell of the sewage? Then the toilet wouldn't flush and just ran. My boyfriend opened it up and fixed it, but it still doesn't work right. And I'm sleeping beneath a couple -- we will forever be in each other's thoughts. The vending machine only has Pepsi, it ate our money and didn't have literally any other beverage. The water dispenser water tastes like silt and I just want to go sleep in my car and get as far from here as possible.

Some things were too soft such as the lukewarm hot tub, the "continental" breakfast being mostly cheap packaged baked goods, the typical waffle machine, and the lack of freshness. But, for the most part Goldilocks knew what she was getting into when she booked the budget hotel. And, I have to say that some things were just right. The room was clean. The beds and pillows were comfortable. The staff were helpful. And the location just 4 minutes from downtown Mineral Point was awesome. We had wanted to stay in the downtown at the Mineral Point hotel, but they only allowed two people per room and my wife wasn't about to leave our son in the car overnight, especially in the winter. So, all in all the Quality Inn is just right.

Bathroom was very clean, especially the tub. The bathroom mirror rocked! Breakfast was not lousy tasting but basically meh. Donuts were mini chocolate hostess ones and only 3 or 4 in the container. Muffins were mini ones as well and again just a few. Sausage was nuked brown and serve that were super pale. Eggs were decent as were the bagels. English muffins were tiny and they had regular sliced bread. I was suspect of the cream cheese not kept on ice or at least cool. A few sad envelopes of oatmeal. I was reminded of early hotel breakfast days. Just felt sad.... I went to get a yogurt out of the fridge and there were only two in there. How about more? And why not some nice danish? An actual full sized donut? As for the fruit, just a couple of bananas and apples.. again, they seemed to do just enough to get by. We ate there twice and then skipped out to Country Kitchen for breakfast. Honestly, just okay. I appreciated the cleanliness but it felt closer to a Super 8 vs a Best Western.

The cabin was beautiful and very clean, and the surrounding scenery is gorgeous. 3. The jetted soaking tub in the bedroom was wonderfully relaxing - a highlight of the stay. 4. Check in and check out were hassle free, and as other reviewers have mentioned, we never even saw our hosts during the visit. 5. Jill was responsive to our questions and was able to recommend a nearby area for a scenic walk. Cons 1. The website describes the cabins as private and secluded; however the owner's residence and cabins are all within 100 yards of each other, so the feeling of privacy was limited to the interior of our cabin. Cabin Life is also quite close to the road, so traffic noise could be heard even while inside. 2. The website advertises a "continental deluxe breakfast" delivered to the door of Cabin Life each morning by "the breakfast fairy". While the breakfast fairy did exist, and delivered on time, we did not feel that the contents of one small fruit tart, 2 banana muffins, and a scant palm-full of raspberries were up to par with our expectations from the website description. We chose to dine at the Country Kitchen in Platteville instead, which had good food and pleasant service. 3. Hair conditioner was not included with the bath products provided, which resulted in our evening being interrupted by an unplanned half hour round trip to the Platteville drug store.
