When I first saw the listing with the excellent reviews and history of the house I felt this would be a fun place to stay. After spending the four nights my initial feeling was right on. This was the perfect place for our family to stay. Kathy greeted us when we arrived and helped us figure out where to have dinner that first night. We stayed in rooms 10 and 11. Those rooms have their own private bath and are on the second floor. It was as though we had a family apartment. The adults room had a king sized bed and the children shared a queen. Their room had a scavenger hunt within the stone walls, which they really enjoyed. After dinner the boys played table tennis and pop shots basketball. Kathy also treated them to an ice cream cone. Very sweet. There were also plenty of board games to play in the evenings. Breakfast was yummy and coffee aplenty! They do offer WiFi, but no screens, so it is easy to bond with your family and have some quality time together. This location was within walking distance to the swimming pool/park and Pendarvis (which is still closed). It is about a half an hour drive to House on the Rock, Cave of the Mounds, and Taliesin. Lots of fun side stops on the way to any of these places. Kathy is an awesome cook. We feel so fortunate to have met her, Dan, and Bobby Jo on our trip. Mineral Point is a beautiful town and I thank them for preserving and sharing such a wonderful Wisconsin landmark with us.

The room is small but adequate for two people. It is nicely decorated and had a small reading nook. There is a small private balcony. The muffins provided for breakfast were yummy! We only had a couple of issues. The first was that the bathroom sink is located inside the room. I'm sure this was necessary due to the limitations of restoring a building this age. Our main complaint was the loud music that was played in the afternoon. I am not sure if this is a regular thing or just rude guests, but it was loud enough we could not rest after our long drive. If this was just rude guests, I can put it down to "people are people." If this was, however, a regular afternoon thing for the Inn, I would suggest the music be turned down or that guests booking Room 1810 be forewarned. All that being said - we think the Inn is a great asset to Mineral Point.

However, the management is always very friendly, and the prices just can't be beat - around $35 for a single! Compare this to any other hotel in the Mineral Point / Dodgeville area ... you'll be lucky to find any other one for $80 or $90. It's also well-maintained - the rooms are always clean and stocked with towels. The ones I've had all had microwaves and mini-fridges, too. The manager was even kind enough to leave some sheets on the floor by the door on a muddy day in order for our dog to get in the door before we toweled her off. If you don't mind "roughing it" a little - Dairyland Motel is the place to go!

The cottage was once a summer kitchen, and sits a stone's throw from the main house. Both buildings are of the same stonework style that Mineral Point is famous for. The cottage sports two bedrooms, a family room, and a small bath. The plumbing is all modern, with great water temp and pressure, as well as central air conditioning. There is a microwave, a small fridge, and a coffee machine. Several interesting books and knick-knacks line the shelves, and the main bedroom has a cute little shelf of chocolates. Out back is a little garden and beyond that is the Cabin at Cothren. Both have exclusive parking with direct access to the road. The reservation process was great. We booked online, then the owner (who is very pleasant and sociable) contacted us to arrange payment. She processed our credit card through Paypal. A very easy transaction. Our only comment is that we would have liked to have had a little history of this particular property in a printed form, but I'm certain our hostess would have been more than happy to tell us if we had asked. (I later discovered that there is some historical info on their website.) It should be noted that the whole town rolls up their sidewalks pretty early, so plan ahead if you want to eat out locally. Also, note that although Yelp lists this as a bed and breakfast, it is not.

I was reminded of early hotel breakfast days. Just felt sad.... I went to get a yogurt out of the fridge and there were only two in there. How about more? And why not some nice danish? "Back Again" is a respite for the weary traveler and casual guests - radiant floor heat, fireplace, stocked kitchen, whirlpool tub - neatly finished in an expertly restored 1800's log cabin - set in an iconic, rural, Wisconsin wooded lot of 5.5 acres. Jill was responsive to our questions and was able to recommend a nearby area for a scenic walk. Cons 1. The website describes the cabins as private and secluded; however the owner's residence and cabins are all within 100 yards of each other, so the feeling of privacy was limited to the interior of our cabin. Cabin Life is also quite close to the road, so traffic noise could be heard even while inside. 2. The website advertises a "continental deluxe breakfast" delivered to the door of Cabin Life each morning by "the breakfast fairy". While the breakfast fairy did exist, and delivered on time, we did not feel that the contents of one small fruit tart, 2 banana muffins, and a scant palm-full of raspberries were up to par with our expectations from the website description. We chose to dine at the Country Kitchen in Platteville instead, which had good food and pleasant service. 3. Hair conditioner was not included with the bath products provided, which resulted in our evening being interrupted by an unplanned half hour round trip to the Platteville drug store.

Our room window was right above the awning for the front entry and when we were getting ready to leave I noticed there was a badly decomposing either huge mouse or small rat right outside our window. Dear YELP Readers,…read more This is what I wrote to Ramona of Le Fevre Inn and Resort in Galena IL after the 4 Sista Girls Spent a wonderful Weekend retreat there !!!! The Sista Girl Club Can't Wait to Go BACK to LeFevre Inn & Resort and Galena given it's awesome scenic, quaint, friendly, and culturally diverse surroundings. It started about 6 months out when the owner Ramona responded to my many inquiries quickly and with great suggestions and discounts. We actually spent Friday, October 6 through Sunday, October 8th, 2017 there which was in the middle of the County Fair which was an unexpected added bonus. The ~ 3 hour drive was priceless as we drove up to paradise. The photos don't give it justice; the Gazebo, Pavilion, outdoor fire pit, indoor fire place, and our all equipped cozy inn with the cute balcony and "BAR" : that's another story for another time ;) and private parking was more than accommodating. Even the cloudy, misty, partly sunny, 60 to 70 degree weather didn't deter the four of us from having a great time. The quick easy 2 x a day drive into Galena downtown was full of wonderful surprises starting with Denise and our highly recommended Tri-State Trolley one hour tour back into Historical time and our driver/tour guide Johnny was full of character, fun facts, and great stories. Shopping at Poopsies for sum thin sum thin you never thought you would want; you'll get IT when you get there;was hilarious and the sales people jumped in to make us feel HAPPY and the discounts were priceless. Brunch at tasty Las Aztecas and Dinner at the Famous Fried Green Tomatoes was fabulous with quick friendly, service, cozy welcoming ambience, plenty of food, and huge variety of drinks. Twice we just had to stop and return to Galena's River Wine and Cheese where owners Bryon and Julie and the gang treated us special; great free tasting of wine, cheese, olive oils, dips...specially made. We did leave a lil sum thin sum thin behind for y'all to purchase. We will be back and I'm preparing my Sista Girl Scrapbook to share our experience with our family and friends.
