    Lots of home decor

Everyone is looking for a cute place to share a meal this season and Bell Cafe was most accommodating for our group of 7. They have large tables in their sister store next door, Flower and Fields. There was also another group of 16 also being served in this cute environment. Irish was our server and was so very helpful. When their soup of the day sold out, she quickly came back with the options, lobster bisque or pumpkin bisque. And let me say the pumpkin was marvelous! I had mine with the grilled cheese for a light lunch. This was brilliant to use this plant-shop space for overflow seating. There were so many clippings and cute pots and lots of groovy decor. But look for the gecko on the left middle of the shop. He is a curious customer and came slowing crawling our way, un-intimidated by our noisy chatter. Fun Atmosphere! Highly recommend.

I love the diner atmosphere of this place! Very unassuming in Mechanicsville, but this place is cute and ideal for brunches and lunches with those close to you, or even just by yourself. We visited their sister store next door for a plant experience and they were so kind. Did and will visit again.

In the middle of a long drive back from the Outer Banks, we found Bell Cafe on Yelp and had a wonderful little brunch! First, I have to talk about how cute this place is! Plants are everywhere and anyone who knows me knows that is how you make me swoon. Inside, outside... plants everywhere. They also did such a wonderful job with the outside (maybe this was a Covid renovation, or maybe it's always been there) but you absolutely forget that you are in a strip mall. They've made it private and cozy with tall walls, beautiful chairs, big tables and of course, more plants. Okay now onto the food. I got the chicken salad: A very big portion of their chicken salad a top a delicious leafy summer salad. It had watermelon and nuts and a really wonderful raspberry dressing on the side. The chicken salad was HEAVY and really thick. It was good, but a lot. I couldn't come close to finishing it. My fiance got the loaded omelette and really liked it. I snagged some of his home fries and wished I had gotten a whole order of those for myself. On the way out I got a vanilla latte because I needed a caffeine boost for the next leg of the drive. I asked for it to be not so sweet but unfortunately it was SWEET. Like, really sweet. Still, it was good. I really recommend this spot! It's beautiful, has very kind staff and good food.

We chose brunch at Bell Cafe because the weekend before I had seen a sidewalk sign boasting mimosa flights. I am glad we tried it. The flights were fabulous. Featuring each of their signature mimosas. My favorite was the Peach Melba Mimosa. My least favorite was the Creamsicle. It was tasty not hit the mimosa mark for me. Mimosa Flight 20 Try all four of our Signature Mimosas. Classic Mimosa: Champagne, Orange Juice and a splash of St. Germain. Strawberry Grapefruit Mimosa: Champagne, Grapefruit Juice, Grapefruit Soaked Strawberries and a splash of St. Germain Orange Creamsicle Mimosa: Champagne, Orange Juice, Vanilla Cream and Immune Boosting 5 Citrus Vodka Peach Melba Mimosa: Champagne, Fresh Berry Pureee and Peach We started with an appetizer of Pimento cheese fritters served with house-made pepper jelly dipping sauce. For me these were the highlight of the meal. I was disappointed in my Cheddar Biscuits and Gravy. The biscuits did not have any cheddar flavor but did have an herb that did not pair well with the Corned Chipped Beef. The corned beef was good but the gravy was thick, congealed, and barely warm when served. Cheddar Biscuits & Gravy 8.99 Choice of Sausage Gravy or Corned Chip Beef over Cheddar Biscuit - or - try new vegan "Impossible Sausage" for 1.50 On the other hand, my friend's Smoked Salmon Benedict was a hit. We had both pictured the smoked salmon as lox. Instead of brined fish it was a filet cooked (possibly poached) to a light pink with a hint of Smokey flavor. The hollandaise appeared to have separated but was still tasty. Smoked Salmon Benedict 14.99 Two Poached Eggs, Dill Cream Cheese, Smoke Salmon, Green Onion, Tomato & Roasted Red Peppers & Hollandaise Based on the mimosa flight and pimento cheese fritters, I am willing to try Bell Cafe again but I would go for lunch because brunch missed the mark for me.

Bell Cafe had only just recently popped onto my radar since I don't live in Mechanicsville. Before visiting, I was pretty set on their cinnamon roll Belgian waffle, but on arrival I was feeling savory instead. I ordered the vanilla bean latte as my drink. I was mildly bummed that they were out of the white chocolate raspberry latte listed first under specials...but only until I tried the vanilla. It was so good! We started with the spinach and artichoke hearts dip. I was surprised to see peppers lining the dish. Fortunately they didn't touch the pita or dip, or I would've had to send it back since they make me super sick. Maybe they can be added to the menu description? The dip itself was delicious. For my meal, I ordered the Addison sandwich -- oven-roasted turkey, havarti cheese, lettuce, and cranberry mayo on a grilled croissant. Oh my goodness! I made a point of emphasizing how good it was to our server. They were doing a very strong lunch service, with lots of folks seated plus many picking up takeout orders. If I visit again, I'd probably order takeout, at least during Covid, because all booths were available to sit in, and the person right behind me (who arrived after we sat down) wasn't six feet away at all. They do have hand sanitizer at the door and defer to their website for the menu, so those are pluses. All told, I enjoyed my visit and would likely order again sometime.

What's not to love??!! The vibe is laid back, the food is outstanding, the mimosas are Devine and the service is always on point! I love having this place in my neighborhood. It's one of those little hidden gems that doesn't get enough credit! The portion sizes are hefty so be sure to bring your appetite and your favorite stretchy pants!! Oh and if you love Mimosa's they have really cool mimosa flights! Check them out

Omg...I had the lump crabcake with cheese biscuits and two fried eggs hard with a side of hollandaise sauce and potatoes. Talk about delicious. All the flavors combined are so tasty.

This was my first time visiting this restaurant and I will absolutely return. The service was great, the space is so cute with indoor and outdoor seating. Portion was large and had a great variety on the menu!

Let me start with the staff is amazing! Actually so are the mimosas lol. We decided after several months after our last awful experience to see if things improved and the biscuits and gravy did! Things that got worse? The breakfast potatoes which were not good at all compared to what they did have! Also buyer beware they have have a 3% service fee for the use of a credit card!!!

The shrimp and grits had too many ingredients, but that's because we didn't read what it had. We thought it was the traditional shrimp and grits, so technically we didn't like it because it had more things than we wanted. I had been telling my Dad for a while about how fun this place is, how nice everyone usually is, and how much I thought he would enjoy it. We were finally able to come together today, and he was genuinely excited to see the inside and have breakfast here for the first time. As expected, we were told the wait would be about 45-50 minutes. Fine. The place was busy, as it usually is, and we had absolutely no problem waiting. I spent years working as a server and hostess. I understand busy restaurants, long waits, and tables that don't turn as quickly as expected. After waiting about 40 minutes, I went to the host stand to simply ask for an update. We had watched people leave and groups continue to be seated during our wait, so I wanted to see where we stood. The young man at the host stand told me it would be ANOTHER 40-50 minutes. I genuinely thought he had confused our name with someone else's, so I explained that we had already been waiting for 40 minutes. He told me our names were "at the bottom of the list" and that people inside were moving very slowly. No apology. No double-checking the list. No attempt to figure out how a quoted 45-50 minute wait had suddenly turned into an hour and a half. He didn't ask if we were willing to sit inside, offer another seating option, or even suggest placing a to-go order. Nothing. He was completely dismissive. So I handed him the menu and my Dad and I left. Then, just 20 MINUTES later--not the additional 40-50 minutes we had literally just been told--I received a call saying our table was ready. I tried to explain that we were no longer there and WHY we had left. The second I said we had "left," I was HUNG UP ON. Honestly, that was it for me. Before that phone call, I was actually sitting in the car telling my Dad that maybe we could try again another day. Despite being embarrassed and disappointed after talking this place up to him so much, I was still willing to chalk it up to a bad interaction with one host. Getting hung up on completely sealed the deal. I'm not angry because the restaurant was busy. I'm angry because we were treated like we didn't matter. I'm angry because we waited patiently for 40 minutes, politely asked one question, and were dismissed with inaccurate information instead of someone taking 30 seconds to double-check. I'm angry because when I tried to explain what had happened, I wasn't even given the basic courtesy of finishing a sentence before someone hung up on me. My Dad and I have lived in Lakeside for over 30 years. We weren't asking to skip the line. We weren't demanding a table. We weren't rude to anyone. We were two local customers who were excited to have breakfast together at a place I had genuinely loved and recommended to other people. We will NEVER be back. And yes, we will absolutely be telling our friends, family, and neighbors about how we were treated and recommending that they go somewhere else unless they want to risk being dismissed, given completely inaccurate wait information, and hung up on when they try to explain why they left. Apparently this place is busy enough that treating people with basic courtesy no longer matters. That's fine. There are plenty of other restaurants that will happily take our money and, at the very least, treat my Dad and me like human beings. What was supposed to be a fun breakfast with my Dad turned into one of the worst customer service experiences I've had in a long time. I went from genuinely loving and recommending this place to never wanting to step foot inside again. Congratulations. You lost two longtime local customers in less than an hour.
