Super friendly folks behind the counter and dashing around making sure everyone was happy and had top ups. We got the bok choy, general tso's chicken, Lao mein, and pork soup dumplings. My kids ate it up! (Not the "green stuff" haha but truly some of the most tender and delicious bok choy that we, the adults, have ever had). The house made noodles were big hit as well, of course. We had a very enjoyable weekday lunch at Beijing Cafe. Don't let the run down strip mall location scare you away; the restaurant's interior is very nice, well lit, and clean. Our meal started with a scallion pancake. It was very good, with just the right amount of scallion flavor but was a tiny bit too dense. Next we tried the pan-fried pork and celery dumplings. They were clearly just handmade, steamed, then finished off with a light panfry. I've never had this particular variety of dumpling before and these were delightful. The accompanying dipping sauce had a bit too much vinegar in it for my taste. Highly recommended. We shared the minced pork and eggplant for an entree. Wow! This was fantastic. The Japanese eggplant was very tender and the finely minced pork perfectly complimented the eggplant. We will definitely order this again. Adding steamed rice to this entree incurs a $1.95 up charge which seems like gouging on a $16.95 dish. Service was friendly and helpful, but not especially attentive or detail oriented. I got the impression that the restauranteurs in charge were highly experienced and showed a level of finesse that most similar restaurants in the area just aren't capable of. Hands down the best noodles I've had in the Triangle. This isn't a place you'd casually stumble upon or notice while driving by, but it is absolutely worth going out of your way for--lunch, an easy dinner, whatever the occasion. The pork soup dumplings were so good I almost ordered a second round. The noodles in tomato and egg sauce were genuinely the best noodles I've had anywhere in North Carolina. On top of that, the prices are excellent, which makes it very tempting (and easy) to order multiple dishes. Service was friendly and efficient. Value highlights include the Crab Rangoon and Pork Soup Dumplings (be careful when eating these piping hot pockets of joy). Other entrees we ate included the Scallion Beef (meh), Beef Chow Fun (Great but small portion for the price) and Salt & Pepper Shrimp (pretty tasty with a good fry). The fried rice was not great. Other than the Xaio along Bao, Crab Rangoon, and the hot tea which i would go back for, I think its competitor in the adjacent plaza is a far superior choice especially if you are on a budget. It's unclear to me how this place landed in a set of strip malls that are overwhelmingly Indian. But I was in the mood for Chinese and this place offered some decent looking vegetarian selections. The tofu dish I ordered was a pretty basic garlic flavor, but mouthwatering is such and I was able to devour it quickly. Rice was optional, so I spared myself some carbs. In place of rice, I got what they say are house made noodles and what taste like fresh noodles, available plain and with some scallion oil. I got some vegetable dumplings and a mushroom salad as well. The flavors didn't rock my world, but they did fulfill my craving. I spent a decent amount of money on it, but I could not accuse them of shorting me on portion size. read more

We ordered the crab rangoons, pork potstickers, pork bao buns, spicy sesame noodles, hot and sour soup, and sesame chicken and could not choose a favorite. Beijing Cafe in Cary is a hidden gem. I stopped in recently at my teen daughter's request and was pleasantly surprised. The orange chicken is honestly the best I've had in a long time -- not overly crunchy or all breading, and you can actually taste real, tender chicken inside. The steamed chicken dumplings taste way better than they look, too. The man and woman working there were so pleasant and welcoming, and the music they had playing gave the place a really calm, zen vibe. Don't let the surrounding area scare you away -- the restaurant itself is clean, cozy, and has a nice feel once you're inside (although we ordered carryout). This place seems pretty unassuming but was so good. You order at a kiosk but if you elect to dine in, they'll bring you the food and drinks. This place gave such a nostalgic vibe, it reminded me of the meals my family would make, growing up in a Chinese household. You can see them making the dumplings in front of you and all the staff are so nice and welcoming, it truly felt like being transported to my childhood. The food options were also very classic and again contributed to that feeling of nostalgia. I tried the pork scallion oil noodles, the pork and chive dumplings, egg fried rice and tea eggs. They all tasted very home-y and evoked all the feelings that come with eating a nice wholesome meal with your family. I think that the food was not necessarily out of this world or stood out but it was very classic and traditional in a way that makes it more special than if it had been unique. The atmosphere was so nice that even though I got take-out the first time, I felt compelled to come back and sit in just to soak in the vibes. This might just be an experience unique to me but I think that other Asian Americans might also be able to relate. On another note, I do think some of the prices were a little steep for what it was but alas. read more

Honestly would give it 2 stars but the extra star is because I don't want to be an a-hole. We all felt misled by the high ratings online. I feel like the majority of reviews are fake because many of them have no photo and only a singular review and just for this restaurant. We tried the chicken stir fried noodles and the pork noodles, the chicken stir fry, soup dumplings, pork dumplings, and pork bao. I also ordered the jia jiang mian which I thought was the highlight of the meal. My husband thought the spicy oil wontons were the highlight but I didn't like them bc I felt like it was a bit undercooked on the outside. We also didn't like how thick the dumpling wrappers were. The majority of the food was bland and or overcooked. Every single one of the soup dumplings broke apart before anybody could even taste it. All the soup fell through the holes of the steamer basket and onto the plate below. If you see the photo I shared you can see how stuck and how overdone they were. Super disappointed. The kids didn't mind the food but also were conveniently "full" pretty quickly after we began eating. The service is attentive however and I do like that you order your food through a kiosk. It's convenient. You won't have any trouble getting a table. I had made a reservation but it wasn't needed whatsoever nor were we asked about if we had a reservation. They double checked the order before sending it out to the kitchen which was nice. All of the decor was exactly the same as the previous restaurant that was at this location (door to door). That place was much better so I'm surprised that it didn't survive. Maybe we just ordered the wrong things but I felt like we ordered a very large variety of items. This is a very new restaurant in the Chatham Square area and - unusually for our area - features Northeastern Chinese food. Food in the north of China favors wheat over rice so housemade dumplings and noodles are featured. I still need to try the dumplings but the noodles are very good. Excellent chew and "bounce" even if the spicy sesame sauce wasn't spicy at all. Very flavorful, especially when you get some of the preserved vegetable, just not spicy. The black fungus was just okay. It needed a lot more vinegar. The pork cubes in gravy was slightly divisive. The dish was very well prepared and presented but I feel that it just wasn't my taste. My partner absolutely loved it though, and thought very highly of it. Ordering can be slightly baffling. It's done from a kiosk and if this will be your first visit do yourself a favor and familiarize yourself with the menu before you arrive. Rice costs extra and you may or may not need it depending on what you order and to what you're accustomed. Service is very friendly and the family who owns Beijing Cafe genuinely wants you to enjoy their food. They're happy to answer questions, provide suggestions, or just chat about their experiences. The restaurant itself is small, clean, and cute with bar seating and both indoor and outdoor tables. Their menu is concise but I'm sure the dumplings and noodles will be the stars. read more

I so very much wanted to be able to have more stars but the food (out of our party of 3) was a unanimous why did we spend almost a hundred bucks for this?!? We chose this place because of the family-owned aspect and "authentic Chinese" boasted. Nothing really hit. The fried rice was dry and over soy-sauced. The Sesame Chicken was dripping with sauce, but had a decent flavor. The Shanghai Noodle were in 2 giant clumps (also dry) and curried to kingdom come. The scallion pancakes and dumplings were sadly unimpressive, likewise, dry and somegow flavorless. The ponzu sauce was nice though (used that on everything the little bit supplied would allow). The spicy shredded potato was crunchy and undercooked with cilantro, which was unexpected. I'm happy to be able to say that the white rice was nice and sticky! Glad we snagged a couple of those! Reasonable prices for authentic Beijing Northern Chinese cuisine. The noodles are made by hand right in front of you. Their noodles are superb. Excellent texture with the perfect amount of firmness and chewiness that the sauce just sticks to. We got the spicy sesame sauce noodles. I prefer my noodles spicier so I had to ask for an extra side of chili oil. 7.5/10 We also got the Beijing meat sauce noodles (炸酱面). The flavor was authentic but I wish there was about 20% more sauce since my mom usually makes it a bit saltier at home. This place is on the level of some of the northern chinese places in Flushing but somehow in Cary. 9/10 The dumplings are pretty good. Tastes just like a good homemade dumpling. Nothing bad to say. 8/10 The spicy shredded potatoes are fantastic. Crunchy, knifework is top notch for the perfect texture. The sauce with this is salty, savory, sour and spicy. 9/10 Overall, I would encourage other people to come here to try out these authentic flavors and keep this business open as you can't get this flavor unless you fly to New York or all the way to China. read more

Loved it. This unassuming restaurant on Chatham has the best dumplings in the area...no shade at Chengdu 7, which is practically next door. The couple running the restaurant are utterly charming. They introduced themselves after we were seated, let us know that everything on the menu was made fresh there, and gave us some suggestions. And I really believe that it's all made fresh there. My brother-in-law married a woman from Beijing, and this reminded me so much of her cooking. I would guess that someone from northern China would think that food from this restaurant tastes like home. The freshness of the ingredients comes through, unhindered by the heavy oiliness of some of the Chinese food you can get in the area. The interior is nicer than the exterior, and has a very casual vibe. They have kiosks set up for ordering when you enter (though they weren't busy when we went in, so we got traditional table service). read more

This was the previous location for the skewer place so the decor is the same. The food ordering kiosk is still the same as well. We ordered the Beijing noodle, fried dumplings, soup dumplings, hot and sour soup, and house made soy milk. The dumplings and noodle were tasty, soup dumplings were solid for NC. -The hot and sour soup is the only thing that was a tad lackluster, reminds me of lunch special hot and sour soup that's been sitting around for a while. Scallion pancakes are awesome. The noodles in the lo mein were great. Dumpings were also very good. But I think the highlight was the crispy fried pork chunks. Yum. Restaurant is very casual. You order and pay at a kiosk, grab a table and then the staff brings the food when it's ready. Beverage selection is limited if that's a concern. We found this to be a remarkable pricy restaurant. We ordered 3 meals for takeout: orange beef, sesame chicken, and sweet and sour chicken, all with white rice, plus fried pork and Napa dumplings and their fried dough snack: $90 including a standard tip. It was a study in contrasts. A generous serving of a dozen dumplings came with only a single tiny cup of sauce. The three dinner entrees included but one single packet of soy sauce to be shared by all three. The orange beef proved the best dinner choice, and was pretty good. The sweet and sour chicken was overdone and rather bland. The sesame chicken was only so-so for texture and flavor. The fried dough was a good sized serving, but tasted distinctly of used oil. It might have been significantly improved with a coating of powdered sugar as befitting a "snack", which sadly it lacked. This does not resemble authentic Beijing dining at all, but more of a stereotypical Americanized version that is the norm here. In short: premium price, rather pedestrian fare. read more

We went there last night for the first time, and it was Delicious! We had Cumin Lamb, Beef w/scallions, Bat Choy, and Hot & Sour Soup (which was not dumbed-down for American tastes. It was Tangy spicy.) The Lamb was deep fried but moist inside and perfectly spiced. The beef was melt-in-your-mouth. The bat choy was in a sea of garlic juice and cooked to perfection. Finally, a Chinese restaurant in Cary that I can love! This is not a typical Chinese restaurant. The menu is small. Mostly homemade dumplings (not frozen and heated up)! I had the pork and leek dumplings, some beef dumplings, eggplant with potato and the scallion pancake. Everything was delicious! Portions were large so there were enough for leftovers.
