I love Beeside Balcony! I've been here a few times, and it never disappoints. For an appetizer, we shared the trio of dips, but substituted the goat cheese instead of the spicy hipiti. The dips and pita bread are so amazing, I have to get it every time! For an entree, I got the Beeside Roasted Chicken, and it was yummy! I loved the mushrooms and the sauce. The service here is always top notch, and dinner is always a great experience. Can't wait to try their brunch sometime soon! read more

I've heard of rooftop restaurants, but this place was a BALCONY restaurant. It was cozy and had a great atmosphere. The food presentation was amazing, but overall I think the food lacked in flavor. The pesto pasta and the scallops didn't taste like anything. It's a shame because they were perfectly cooked, and seared. The polenta was nice and crispy, but was bland. Not sure if polenta is supposed to be like that. I don't think we got a good batch of oysters as there was almost no meat in them, it felt like we were eating just cheesy toppings in an oyster shell. The chicken was a bit dry. The dishes we did enjoy were the cheese platter and the salad. Basically the non-cooked foods. Unfortunately, I don't think we will come again as we spent $370 for a family of five and don't think it was worth it for our special family occasion. This place was extremely crowded (good location and environment) and I believe it has potential food-wise, so that is why I gave it 3 stars. read more

We had a great lunch here the first time we tried Beeside Balcony. Great food, great service. Excited to come back for dinner this evening for a second visit, unfortunately we had just the opposite experience. The restaurant was really busy, so perhaps the staff and kitchen were just off their game tonight, but regardless when you attempt to provide an elevated dining experience and charge elevated prices, bad food is just not acceptable. We ordered the mussels and truffle fries for an appetizer. It came out quickly, however we had cold mussels. Not sure how that happens to freshly streamed shellfish, but about half of the mussels were room temp or cold to the touch. The white wine cream sauce we expected was actually a thick brown gravy and also lukewarm at best. I would have sent them back, but our server never came over to check on us for at least 20 minutes so we just ate cold mussels. For our entree, we ordered the Fjord salmon which we hoped would come shortly after they served us cold mussels. Instead we waited almost 30 minutes after our appetizer was finished to get the main course and it was worse than the mussels. Seriously one of the most bland, flavorless salmon dish I have ever had. It was supposed to be served with a lemon beurre blanc sauce, but instead it came with the exact same thick brown gravy that we had with our mussels. It literally had zero seasoning on the fish... not a pinch, and zero seasoning on the couscous medley, which was just flavorless mush. When we inquired about the lemon beurre blanc sauce missing on the dish, our server tried to tell us that they are actually the same sauce...despite two very different descriptions on two very different dishes... and nothing remotely resembling an actual lemon beurre blanc or a white wine cream sauce. Bottom line, the food was just bad, the service was subpar and this was a hugely disappointing experience. read more

Sadly, my cocktail was meh - the bitter end sounded delicious (tequila, mango nectar, peach bites) but was totally watered down. And the entrees at our table were a major disappointment. Sunday morning brunch and surprisingly not many people inside this highly rated spot. Sunny morning and still seating on their outdoor deck under some shady umbrellas. To start, ordered the "Del Mar Derby" Cocktail ($13) - bourbon, honey lemonade, and blackberry puree. Nice stiff drink to sip on; not too sweet despite the lemonade. For food, got the Crispy Chicken Sandwich ($18) - a moderately fried chicken breast over a mango slaw. The chicken is still moist and goes well with the sweet/tangy sauce. Side of fries were done well, lightly salted and served with some ketchup. The morning also included some live music which was a nice touch (paired with the view and nice weather). The ambiance is very pleasant with an ocean view and uncrowded seating. Our party of six and a toddler were able to hear each other. We parked in the garage on the first floor. Our orders included several different items with the pesto shrimp fettuccine being the favorite, as well as sea bass, salmon, and double pork-chop, several appetizers to share, desserts, and coffee. Everyone seemed pleased with their food although one younger person found the portions a little small. By contrast, I did not finish mine. Being from El Cajon I found the Del Mar prices a little steep. We had one round of drinks but no wine. The restroom is outside and down a hall and at night the lighting was not great and the deck not entirely even, and the stairs were a little challenging for my artificial knee. read more

Came here for a dinner meeting not too long ago. Didn't have an appointment but was able to get a table and was seated fairly quickly. The hostess was very nice and accommodating. When seated the waiter was attentive and recommended a couple of the drinks. I ended up ordering the black's beach. The drink was grapefruit forward as most of the ingredients contain grapefruit essence. The drink was okay. On to the food: the bee's platter was order for the table and I ordered the salmon dish for the main. The platter was underwhelming as it was a few pita triangles with different condiments. None of the condiments really stood out. The main dish looked good to start but once the food was eaten it was just okay. The dish seemed to be on the saltier side for my liking especially the purée. The lemon beurre blanc didn't appear to provide the tangy zing that you would need to pair with the salmon. The salmon was cooked alright it could have be slightly less cooked as you could see the protein coagulation but it was most likely due to getting the fish crispy on the flesh and skin side. Overall the ambiance was relaxing the staff was great and attentive. The food is what seemed to let the evening down. read more

The owner stopped by and I told him that we had previously enjoyed the main patio with our dog and he told me just to come back without my dog. No thank you!! Four people three of which like to complain a lot all had nothing but praise. My dad got cards from the owners which in my lifetime I have never seen happen. Just missed sunset but has a beautiful ocean view. I sadly live out of town but my folks are here and I have a hunch they will now be regulars. They are older and require a bit of patience and our server could not have been more attentive and patient. I had the Ciopino and Lamb. Del Mar, Ca. I had a great lunch here, the setting is really comfortable and inviting, with generous spacing between tables. There is even a bit of ocean view above the traffic and buildings across the highway. No sand or whitewater but nice ocean at the horizon, probably great winter sunsets. It was Cinco de Mayo so I wanted a Mexican beer. What they had was a Mexican "Style" lager that was delicious. My wife's "Mocktail" was reported to be very good. Of course I ordered tacos, which were some kind of white fish, probably Rockfish but I'm not positive. I liked the presentation, unusual for tacos, but there was a nice portion of fish on each taco, opened up for display. The flavor was focused on the fish so it wasn't too chili spiced. I thought about asking for hot sauce, but instead savored the fish on its own merits. This approach may be to subtle for some palates. Mention must be given to the large corn tortillas. Lightly fried, they were served in the open portion. Then folded nicely around the ingredients without breaking and lasted they entire gorging without bursting open and spilling. How are they able to accomplish this yet my local Mexican food dispensaries are unable to do so? Other dishes included octopus with really long legs, cooked nicely and very tender with a bit of chewy meat texture. The fish and chips were light and tasty, not greasy. The avocado toast was elevated to new heights with an amazing bread and salmon (Not Tuna) tartare. The gyro is the best version I've seen, served open faced with beautiful large chunks of lamb, not the typical shaved meat. The pita was nicely toasted but still bent around the lamb. Great sauce too. I liked how each dish was an improved version of the typical. I wish I could have sampled the desserts but I was satiated. read more

On a whim, my visit to Beeside Balcony turned out to be a nice little spot to enjoy brunch with my other half. The weekday we visited, there was plenty of curbside parking alongside the restaurant which was very convenient. As we made our way upstairs, the hostess happily seated us right away despite us not having any reservations. Once seated, the hostess asked us what beverages we wanted and made sure to get them out to us accordingly. Shortly after, our server came out to greet us as she was extremely friendly and attentive. For starters, we ordered the Avocado Toast and Beeside's Crabcake. When we ordered their crabcake, they did give us a heads up that there was only going to be one crabcake instead of two. Yes, the price is a bit much being at $18, you would expect there to be two. However, we decided to give it a try and I'm glad the server informed us of that prior to ordering, so that we weren't surprised. I must say, both were good, but their crabcake was too small and doesn't justify the steep price for it. I'm just happy to have at least tried it once since I love crabcakes in general. As for our main plates, we ordered their Beeside Burger and Crispy Chicken Sandwich. I was very impressed with their Crispy Chicken Sandwich as it was unlike anything I've ever really had. The tempura-battered marinated chicken breast had a nice crunch to it and the mango cilantro slaw inside added a sweet touch and flavor. Their Beeside Burger was also tasty, however, I'd say my favorite of the two is their Crispy Chicken Sandwich. Both come with fries and the portion sizes for both plates were perfect. To wash it all down, I had one of their brunch cocktails that were a mix of Prosecco, vodka, etc. I can't remember the name, but it appears they change their cocktails every so often Overall, service was great, the food was delicious (despite their crabcake being $18 for just one - if the server didn't give us a warning, I'd probably give their food a 4/5 - but they did *clap clap*), and the atmosphere was nice for brunch. Stopped by the spot during the week hoping to try out the brunch menu but realized they only serve that menu on the weekends. My friend and I ordered some things to share and definitely had more than enough to eat. I liked how the menu had a good variety of options. We went with sharing the burger and the fish tacos and had to get some Brussels sprouts as well. I wish the Brussels were a little crispier but that's just how I prefer them but they did have great flavor. The burger has cherry tomatoes in it which I had never seen before I wish there a little more sauce but the fries were crispy and delicious. I was able to make a reservation a week before a long weekend. The initial table they had ready for us was in the upstairs balcony but since I had a stroller it would have made it tough to get in and out so we ended up sitting inside. We got the trio dip for app and I got the fish tacos, husband the fried chicken sandwich. I was happy with my tacos, the jicama slaw was pretty good and added a good crunch to it. We walked inside the first floor with our reservations; however, was told that beeside is upstairs. so make sure you go up the stairs! She never apologized and recognized that she never remembered to bring it out. It took a long time for our food to come out and when it did- it the fries that came with the filet was cold and soggy... as if they were sitting there for awhile before being brought out to us. **Food** We ordered: trio of dips, meatballs, brussel sprouts, faroe islands salmon, and peppercorn filet mignon. Trio of dips was probably the best thing that we ate. The pita was buttery and had the perfect amount of crisp on the outside. The most flavorful dip that was our favorite was the spicy hipiti. Meatballs were ok. They went well with the pita and dips. Salmon and the filet mignon were cooked perfectly temperature-wise, but I felt both were lacking salt and ultimately flavor. As I said before, the filet came with fries which were soggy and cold. The peppercorn sauce was subtle and did not taste peppery at all. It was overall pretty bland. I asked for the brussel sprouts to be crispy. The waitress didn't write anything down, but said "yes. they already are". They definitely weren't. They were the farthest from crispy and actually just looked sautéed or steamed. Flavor was good though, although I was looking for a little texture. Overall, I was a bit underwhelmed. I dined here on a rainy day, and the balcony was definitely chilly, but the waitstaff tried to keep up comfortable by offering hot drinks and had the heat lamps on. Great location and easy to find parking. They are a little hard to find - don't mistake them for the Italian restaurant downstairs. Fantastic from start to finish! Our waitress was Christina and she was so friendly and attentive for our entire meal. We tried the bee's board and mussels to begin with. Both were absolutely outstanding. I had the salmon and my husband had the scallops. We were really happy with both entrees, and ended our meal with the profiteroles which were divine. Parking is limited and the restaurant is small, so I'd recommend a reservation and getting there early to find parking. read more

Let me start off by saying the food was amazing!!!! We had the Roasted chicken, Chilean Sea Bass, Roasted tofu & quinoa, Salmon Tartare and Parmesean truffle fries. The service matched and everything was plated beautifully. Also had the Sparkling lavender honey lemonade. I was afraid it was going to be super sweet but it was the most refreshing, lemonade I've ever had with a hint of sweetness. However, I almost missed this experience because of the hostess yesterday. First impression, my friends and I walked in and we stood there a few moments waiting to be acknowledged. The hostess looked over at us a couple of times and continued doing whatever she was doing. She took her sweet ass time walking over to us and asked if we had a reservation (4:15 on a Thursday). I replied "yes, we do". She reviewed the list and raised her eyebrows as if she were surprised and said "oh, you do" after she found my name. I was a split second away from turning around and bringing my friends with me to another establishment. Fortunately, I was super hungry and I was looking forward to the Sea Bass all the Yelpers rave about! It was soooo worth it. I will be back. read more

We stopped in just by chance as we pass it every week going to Dexters Deli. We were early 5 pm and got a table on the patio. Temperature was just right and not busy until about 6 pm then the place was full. It's nice and quiet but a small venue. Service was impeccable throughout the whole meal. So many choices and had a hard time deciding. Drinks White Sangaria- was good not as good as I've had or made myself but good. Escargot- it was okay not great. I'm not sure what was on the top of it that was green mixture but too much of it. Broccoli soup- was very good and the bread that comes with in the bowl was amazing. Little too much sage used for my personal preference. Fjord Salmon entree- salmon was very fresh and cooked perfectly. Loved the crispy outside. Could not taste the lemon beurre blanc which was disappointing. The salmon lays on a bed of green chunky broccolini sauce like that was really strong of sage and did not care for it. Next time I'd order but without and more beurre blanc. Seared Scallop entree- was amazing and perfectly cooked. Seasoning was perfect. Side potatoes- fabulous!!! Side Brussel Sprouts- We loved these but not what you typically see. It was more of a shaved Brussel sprout that was sautéed. They are not the crispy kind. Parmesan fries- cooked just right, crispy and seasoned perfectly. Desert was an ice cream pie with baklava- it was really good. read more

Bedside balcony did not disappoint. This restaurant features beautifully plated seafood dishes along with some non seafood offerings. Portion sizes are excellent and their range of appetizers and sides to share are so filling and lovely for large tables. The pesto shrimp linguini was divine and the scallops and squid were fan favorites. Our server Pedro was very knowledgeable and recommended the baklava ice cream cake for dessert which was the perfect finish to a lovely meal. We cannot wait to return to San Diego for another night out at Beeside. Make sure to book a reservation in advance because space is limited! read more

And for the reservation I had put it was for a birthday and they gave the birthday person a card which was thoughtful! For being called Beeside I was expecting more items with honey. The food overall was meh. We shared the trio dip which was underwhelming. The pita was very good though! I got the sea bass which was also underwhelming and a little surprised that it didn't come with any sides. The truffle fries were good though. I eat vegetarian at times and didn't like that tofu was the vegetarian option. A perfect little restaurant in this quaint part of Del Mar. I easily made a reservation for 3 on a chilly December night. Their balcony has lots of ceiling heaters so I was never cold.. everyone agreed how surprisingly warm they were. Bonus - this place is dog friendly! And parking was easy to find on the street on Friday night. The menu is simple which is nice- it's all Mediterranean (pitas, hummus, lamb, salmon). There is even a fried chicken dish. My table split the artichoke hummus which was great- served with fresh pita! I had the lamb burger, it was amazing! A little bit of lamb goes a long way, so the burger was rich! It was just the right size to finish and to not be too full. I love the salad that comes with burger- it's topped with tzatziki. We split the baklava cake which was delicious. This flaky Mediterranean pastry with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top- except this one is in cake form. Service was fantastic- our glasses never empty and our every need met. Went for an early dinner on a Tuesday and had the entire patio to ourselves for about 30 mins so that was a nice surprise. Our server was extremely sweet and friendly and made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived. I tried a blackberry ginger mocktail and could have ordered a few more of those, it was so yummy. We got some oysters and a dip trio appetizer to start with. Both were very tasty and the dips quite addictive. I can't recall the name of the orange dip but it was a bit spicy and was our favorite of the 3. Plenty of pita came with the dip so we got a bit full from that alone. I ordered the pesto shrimp pasta and my husband had the steak and fries entree. We enjoyed both of our meals and had leftovers for lunch the next day. Four of us stopped in for dinner to catch up given we live in different cities. This area in Del Mar is perfect for some fun, chill and vibrant spots and this is one of them. The balcony has heaters to warm you up if needed and has great ocean views during the right time of day. We started with a nice chilled bottle of Frank Family Chardonnay, hit the spot for sure. Our food choices were all over the place and it was perfect since we wanted to share most of it. We had the Trio of Dips with Pita Bread, The Veggie Plate, The Crab Cake, The Oyster Côte d'Azur (half dozen), The Beet Salad and a fantastic entree special of fresh Tuna with a Mango delicious sauce (dairy free). Everything was full of great flavors, ingredients that complimented and fresh fresh seafood. My only suggestion would be to add a few more Golden Beets to the salad, the few that were on the plate didn't measure up to the amount of salad. I have absolutely no idea how this place managed a 4.4/5. With that rating, going in, I was expecting a lot more. Starting with the good - the ambiance is nice - the outdoor seating is pleasant as long as it isn't too hot out. Service was also great. It wasn't too busy so our waiter was able to check in on us frequently. We ordered the chicken gyro and the breakfast burrito. Starting with the gyro, it was fresh but bland. Very bland. The gyro clearly lacked acidity which could have been remedied if they had used pickled onions or simply more lemon. The breakfast burrito ran into the same issues, however I would consider this even worse as on top of being bland it was extremely oily. Picking it up, my fingers were instantly coated in a layer of oil and it was dripping everywhere (See the picture provided). The lack of acidity and freshness in this was even more noticeable than the gyro due to the amount of oil. A fresh pico or salsa would have been greatly appreciated with this. The provided salsa tasted like a vinegary mess and was extremely off putting. Overall this place deserves a 3.5/5. I have absolutely no idea how they pulled a 4.4/5. read more

One of my favorite brunch spots in San Diego! Located in the scenic Del Mar neighborhood, Beeside offers a great and delicious brunch menu. One of the best dishes they have here is the amazinggg mussels appetizer! The broth is so tasty and creamy and the portion size is perfect to share. It always comes with some buttery crostinis that you can dip into the broth for a great compliment. It's so darn good! I also really like their lamb gyro here. It's served on a crispy and filling pita bread and topped with delicious and creamy tzatziki sauce, greens, tomatoes, onions and of course tender lamb pieces. It's the perfect brunch portion and is my go-to here. I've also tried the Breakfast sandwich here and it was delicious. It's a crispy egg, bacon and cheese on a toasted and buttery brioche bun. It comes with a side of extra crispy fries and truffle butter! Great sandwich! Beeside also has a dinner menu that I've not tried yet but definitely is on the list to come back to! I came and got lunch here today after so many people recommended this place! First I loved how much outdoor seating they had. Made me feel safe due to COVID. I got the trio of dips which was incredible. The pita bread was so delicious. & for my entree I got the salmon plate! This was amazing. The salmon was cooked to perfection (nice and crispy) & I loved that they kept the skin on!!! (So many places take it off!) also the broccolini puree was unreal! What a delightfully lucky find! Beeside Balcony was able to take our group of 27 (!) on pretty short notice and make magic happen for a private event in December'21. We dialed in the options over email, and arrived to swanky printed menus at place settings, a private bar cranking out fresh cocktails, pass-around appetizers, dinner, and desserts. We had such a fun and helpful server team that made everything run like it was easy. I was worried the large group might overwhelm the kitchen, but the plating and timing were impeccable - everything came out together -- hot, beautiful, and delicious. The crab cake pops were awesome, and the Warm Apple Tart was a winner. What a fun evening.. would do again! read more
