I tried their 3 course menu during a dinner with colleagues and loved it! Service was fast and attentive, the only issue was that one table was receiving food at least 20 minutes before our second table. My appetizer was a beeside salad, HUGE portion. I was already more than half full after eating that. And a delicious salad for sure. For my entree I got the octopus, it was cooked to perfection. The arugula on the side was perfect too. Dessert was sharing chocolate cake and apple tarts, both were absolutely delicious. I went back for second and third helpings of the cake. The drinks were just okay in my experience. I tried 2 of them and didn't really enjoy either. So I probably wouldn't be back for that. But the food is definitely worth checking out! read more

Happiness is the smell of salt in the air while you dine at Beeside Balcony in the late afternoon sun. Chef Christophe captures a seaside chic vibe in the flavor profile of his Grilled Spanish Octopus. With that first bite dipped in bacon jus you could just as easily be basking in the glow of a Mediterranean sunset as you are relaxing adjacent the Pacific Ocean in Del Mar. We had a lovely date night meal there back in October. We were thrilled by the attention we received from our waitress Gina. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and make great recommendations. We also had the honor of meeting the chef, who came to our table and poured a beautiful Torrentes wine for us after our entrees we delivered. Chef Christophe was very gracious and took a little extra time with us to tell us about his business and vision. Chef Christophe uses honey from two beehives at his home in many of his dishes. The goat cheese in this arugula salad with the octopus is infused with this honey and added the perfect balance to the bold savory flavors of this meal. Everything we tried was on point that night. The house made pita bread that came with the trio of dips was straight from heaven. The golden beet salad captured the fall season with its cinnamon roasted walnuts and honey goat cheese. The Seared Chilean Seabass literally made me weepy... I've never eaten such a perfectly cooked piece of fish in my life, plus the presentation was gorgeous! It was topped with masago that sparkles in the late afternoon sun like jewels. While we were enjoying our entrées we watched Chef Christophe interact with some of the other diners. We were really struck by how he individualize the experience for each group. We saw him instructing the server to course out appetizers individually plated to each of the diners at a table to go along with the bottles of wine they had decanting. The ambiance and service were very nice. We sat on the patio where you could see the ocean and downtown Del Mar. Our waitress was knowledgeable, attentive and very courteous. On the other hand, the food was just average. The cheeseboard had a variety of dips, cheeses, and olives, but not enough pita to match. While the flavors were quite good it was a bit expensive. We have been to both the La Jolla and Del Mar locations. They both have the same strange layout, small foot print but it works. The menu is also different, kind of random. The fish and chips was very good as is the chicken sandwich. Their breading is light and crisp. We also had the gain bowl which was very disappointing and tasteless. Service is fine. read more

We went for Valentine's and met our adult son there. I had the salmon and the goulash it was sitting on was pretty bland and had a terrible consistency. I couldn't eat it. Or at least I chose not to! There were garbanzos and couscous, some carrots. It was like mush and I was thankful the salmon was good. My husband had steak and it was cooked well but under seasoned. Kinda grisly. My son had the shrimp pasta and he said his pasta was overcooked and again, the dish was under seasoned. Our mocktails were inventive, tasted great and were not too expensive, which always makes me mad. Give us teetotalers a break! We had dessert and split crème brûlée and a baklava ice cream cake. We all agreed the best part of the meal was dessert. Super yummy! The view from the balcony is really fantastic and parking sucks, as it always does in the village. Leave yourself a bit of time to find a spot. You'll probably need to do some walking. You'll also need to walk to the bathroom. It's part of a complex. The restaurant is seriously just a big balcony. There is not really any inside seating. Most of the tables are on said balcony and it can get chilly even with the propane heaters they had. Make sure you bring a jacket! read more

Had a nice lunch at Beeside this weekend. We arrived without a reservation around 1:30pm and were fortunately seated at one of the few open tables. We ordered the trio of dips, a bee-youtibowl (grain bowl with lemon vinaigrette, avocado, and vegetables), and a Caesar salad. All of them were good. We did sit at our table for about 20 minutes for our server ever came to visit the table. However, the house manager came over and apologized and took care of the situation. We expect servers were busy. Plus, it was a lovely day to relax on a patio, and we didn't have anywhere we needed to be after. read more

Nothing has wow'd me enough to come on here and write another review, but Beeside Balcony has sparked my interest because I thought this place is just so fantastic. The location is stunning, you can't go wrong looking at the ocean and watching sunset in Del Mar, but pair that with great drinks and delicious food and you're onto something very special. My wife had the prickly pear cocktail which looked like something you'd get in WeHo. It wasn't too sweet and tasted delicious. I ordered an Italian wine which was packed full of crisp fruity notes which paired up so nicely with the Norwegian salmon I ordered. My wife had the sea bass and we also ordered the veggy risotto and a side of mashed potatoes. I give this place an easy "10/10 - highly recommend, go visit!" We're kind of picky eaters and love clean, organic ingredients as much as possible and Beeside Balcony delivered some of the best food I've had in a long time. I don't think they have much organic produce going on, but they do care about their sourcing of foods and have free range chicken and I think I saw another review mention their organic lamb, but don't hold me on that one. The ambiance, the views, the drinks, the food and the staff all combined together made for one really lovely visit to Del Mar. We will be back and will bring friends! read more

I keep forgetting to take pictures because of all the amazing restaurants I've been trying since moving to SD 6 months ago, but Beeside Balcony for the win! From the moment we stepped inside this cozy balcony restaurant for an early-ish dinner on Friday night to the very last bite of our desserts, we had an amazing time here. Four different people said hello and greeted us as we walked to our table. Eric was our server, and since it was our first time here, he took the time to give us a complete rundown of everything on the menu, highlighting his favorites. We ordered a honey lavender lemonade and a ginger mocktail (dry January into February is perfect here), and then shared the blue crab crab cake - tasted just like Maryland (without the large lump meat). We then moved onto seafood entrees - I got the grilled octopus and hubs got the sea bass in a lovely buerre blanc sauce. Really well-portioned entrees and we had room for a dessert of the apple tart and dark chocolate mousse with a chocolate and raspberry coulis. Again, I wish I would remember to take pictures but we were so in the moment enjoying every aspect of our meal. The patio was heated and really got busy at 6:30pm (we were one of the few tables when we arrived at 5:30pm). The ambiance is hard for me to describe - sort of nice beach shack, laid-back lighting, and it just all felt special. I love that this place is only 15 minutes from where we live. Tonight was meant to be a special birthday celebration, but that was not how it turned out. We have been going to this restaurant since they opened, and have had very nice meals and some great experiences. However, the kitchen and the serving staff were clearly overwhelmed by some business groups who clearly took priority over all the other tables. Our side dishes came out after our dishes were cleared, and everything was extremely slow. It felt like the planning was lacking, and our large (but not corporate) group was an afterthought. I've heard of rooftop restaurants, but this place was a BALCONY restaurant. It was cozy and had a great atmosphere. The food presentation was amazing, but overall I think the food lacked in flavor. The pesto pasta and the scallops didn't taste like anything. It's a shame because they were perfectly cooked, and seared. The polenta was nice and crispy, but was bland. Not sure if polenta is supposed to be like that. I don't think we got a good batch of oysters as there was almost no meat in them, it felt like we were eating just cheesy toppings in an oyster shell. The chicken was a bit dry. The dishes we did enjoy were the cheese platter and the salad. Basically the non-cooked foods. Unfortunately, I don't think we will come again as we spent $370 for a family of five and don't think it was worth it for our special family occasion. This place was extremely crowded (good location and environment) and I believe it has potential food-wise, so that is why I gave it 3 stars. read more

This restaurant goes to show that just because the food has a high price tag, that doesn't mean it's good. This was the first time in a Long time where I've gone out to eat somewhere and genuinely couldn't even finish the dish because it was so bad. I ordered the lamb chops and yes I know they're supposed to be rare, but these practically felt raw. Maybe the kitchen closed for the night and they decided to cut the gas on the stove a bit early. Aside from the lamb chops themselves, even the polenta and the sauce (especially the sauce) were not very good. I've never had something that was so bitter and sour and just overall Bad at a restaurant. Moving on to the seafood risotto, the rice was basically just soaking in a seafood broth that kind of just tasted like they poured in the water they used to prepare the muscles and shrimp. On top of this, all of the seafood was just rubbery. We also got the salmon ballottine and the flavors just did not go well together, and the bell pepper pico they served it with just kind of felt like it was left over from another dish. Nothing seemed coherent. The only good thing we ate was the pita bread. Ambiance seemed fun if you're on the main balcony but if you don't make it out there, you're basically just sitting at the entry way of this business complex as everyone walks by your table to get in and out of the restaurant. Would not recommend. Already left disappointed but the cherry on top that made me want to write this review is that this morning my boyfriend and I both woke up feeling so nauseous. Del Mar, Ca. I had a great lunch here, the setting is really comfortable and inviting, with generous spacing between tables. There is even a bit of ocean view above the traffic and buildings across the highway. No sand or whitewater but nice ocean at the horizon, probably great winter sunsets. It was Cinco de Mayo so I wanted a Mexican beer. What they had was a Mexican "Style" lager that was delicious. My wife's "Mocktail" was reported to be very good. Of course I ordered tacos, which were some kind of white fish, probably Rockfish but I'm not positive. I liked the presentation, unusual for tacos, but there was a nice portion of fish on each taco, opened up for display. The flavor was focused on the fish so it wasn't too chili spiced. I thought about asking for hot sauce, but instead savored the fish on its own merits. This approach may be to subtle for some palates. Mention must be given to the large corn tortillas. Lightly fried, they were served in the open portion. Then folded nicely around the ingredients without breaking and lasted they entire gorging without bursting open and spilling. How are they able to accomplish this yet my local Mexican food dispensaries are unable to do so? Other dishes included octopus with really long legs, cooked nicely and very tender with a bit of chewy meat texture. The fish and chips were light and tasty, not greasy. The avocado toast was elevated to new heights with an amazing bread and salmon (Not Tuna) tartare. The gyro is the best version I've seen, served open faced with beautiful large chunks of lamb, not the typical shaved meat. The pita was nicely toasted but still bent around the lamb. Great sauce too. I liked how each dish was an improved version of the typical. I wish I could have sampled the desserts but I was satiated. read more

The food was good but unfortunately they no longer allow your dog on the main patio. We had to sit outside in front of the restaurant on a walkway. The owner stopped by and I told him that we had previously enjoyed the main patio with our dog and he told me just to come back without my dog. No thank you!! On a whim, my visit to Beeside Balcony turned out to be a nice little spot to enjoy brunch with my other half. The weekday we visited, there was plenty of curbside parking alongside the restaurant which was very convenient. As we made our way upstairs, the hostess happily seated us right away despite us not having any reservations. Once seated, the hostess asked us what beverages we wanted and made sure to get them out to us accordingly. Shortly after, our server came out to greet us as she was extremely friendly and attentive. For starters, we ordered the Avocado Toast and Beeside's Crabcake. When we ordered their crabcake, they did give us a heads up that there was only going to be one crabcake instead of two. Yes, the price is a bit much being at $18, you would expect there to be two. However, we decided to give it a try and I'm glad the server informed us of that prior to ordering, so that we weren't surprised. I must say, both were good, but their crabcake was too small and doesn't justify the steep price for it. I'm just happy to have at least tried it once since I love crabcakes in general. As for our main plates, we ordered their Beeside Burger and Crispy Chicken Sandwich. I was very impressed with their Crispy Chicken Sandwich as it was unlike anything I've ever really had. The tempura-battered marinated chicken breast had a nice crunch to it and the mango cilantro slaw inside added a sweet touch and flavor. Their Beeside Burger was also tasty, however, I'd say my favorite of the two is their Crispy Chicken Sandwich. Both come with fries and the portion sizes for both plates were perfect. To wash it all down, I had one of their brunch cocktails that were a mix of Prosecco, vodka, etc. I can't remember the name, but it appears they change their cocktails every so often Overall, service was great, the food was delicious (despite their crabcake being $18 for just one - if the server didn't give us a warning, I'd probably give their food a 4/5 - but they did *clap clap*), and the atmosphere was nice for brunch. Stopped by the spot during the week hoping to try out the brunch menu but realized they only serve that menu on the weekends. My friend and I ordered some things to share and definitely had more than enough to eat. I liked how the menu had a good variety of options. We went with sharing the burger and the fish tacos and had to get some Brussels sprouts as well. I wish the Brussels were a little crispier but that's just how I prefer them but they did have great flavor. The burger has cherry tomatoes in it which I had never seen before I wish there a little more sauce but the fries were crispy and delicious. The ambiance is very pleasant with an ocean view and uncrowded seating. Our party of six and a toddler were able to hear each other. We parked in the garage on the first floor. Our orders included several different items with the pesto shrimp fettuccine being the favorite, as well as sea bass, salmon, and double pork-chop, several appetizers to share, desserts, and coffee. Everyone seemed pleased with their food although one younger person found the portions a little small. By contrast, I did not finish mine. Being from El Cajon I found the Del Mar prices a little steep. We had one round of drinks but no wine. The restroom is outside and down a hall and at night the lighting was not great and the deck not entirely even, and the stairs were a little challenging for my artificial knee. read more
