Came to Kansas City over the recent holidays to visit some friends, and Beer Kitchen came as a local recommended place. Good food, good vibes, good beer selection, I was sold. So we loaded up and showed up one day around Noon. Ambiance was really cool. It's in the middle of some sort of progressive looking shanty-esque suburb. The kind of place that does drag queen bingo. I was right at home. Inside was college sport bar, but with a nice, huge board on the wall of all their beer selection. It Was quite expansive. Service was top notch, too. Nice server took care of us, made sure our glasses were never empty. The food came out at a good clips, and we got an unexpected bonus of free little beignet-like donuts with some delicious dipping sauces. As for food, we started off with a jumbo order of the Truffle Parmesan Hand-Cut Fries for the table. We got to choose two from their extensive list of aioli dipping sauces. Fries were good. Dusted with the perfect amounts of truffle and parmesan. And the sauces were my oh my. I recommend paying the upcharge to just try them all. I mentioned the time earlier, because we had no idea we were stumbling upon their brunch menu. Even more options to choose from! I got the Crispy Waffle Smash Burger (smashed hertzog beef patties, fried egg, smoked bacon, merkt's cheddar, caramelized onion, maple aioli, crispy buttermilk waffle). This thing was really nice. Perfect waffle, not too small, not too big, and no oily or anything obtrusive. A nice bun option. Eggs and bacon sometime get lost against giant burger patties, but with these smash patties, the extra accoutrements really stand out and make this burger really stand out in my mind. I also for the try the Smokestack Burger (smoked burnt ends, smoked gouda, whiskey bbq glaze, pickle relish, chipotle aioli & crispy jalapeño straws). Uhhh, as you can read, this thing was loaded with goodness. Fatty burger, smokey burnt ends, sweet boozy glaze, acidic pickles, and texture from that jalapeno. This was the perfect burger. I insist you order this. Overall, my research did not reveal Beer Kitchen to me, locals recommendation did. Shows that you gotta use your street smarts instead of your book smarts sometimes. Stopped in around 12:30 on a Wednesday during Restaurant Week since I had the day off and wanted to finally try Beer Kitchen. They did not disappoint. I was not in the mood for beer and it was still fairly early, so I focused on the food and stuck with water for my first course. I started with the chicken thigh fries. They were delicious, just spicy enough, and came with a fantastic dipping sauce. The portion was extremely generous. I would have liked them slightly crispier, but they were still hot, flavorful, and very satisfying. For my main course, I ordered the smashburger and it was excellent from the bun to the patties. Everything worked together perfectly. I added the Parmesan truffle fries and those were also fantastic. I also enjoyed the ketchup flight. The barbecue ketchup did not do much for me, but the classic ketchup and the chipotle ketchup were both great. The restaurant was fairly noisy, but since I was dining alone it did not detract from the experience. Service was fast and friendly, and everyone seemed to be having a good time. It felt like a cool neighborhood spot, and I am glad I am staying nearby while traveling. Overall, a fantastic experience. Now if you will excuse me, I think it is time for a nap. Take out experience: We were greeted by friendly faces and taken care of promptly. The bartender was very kind taking our order and offering us drinks while we waited for our takeout food. We came here to try their weekly sandwich special, the short rib, grilled cheese. There was not much to brag about with the sandwich, as it tasted just like a slightly fancy grilled cheese, but did not have much flavor from the short rib itself. Stopped in for happy hour. I almost always stop by when I'm in Westport, mainly for a quick beer. Every time I've been here it's usually pretty busy. Not overly packed but not empty either. They do have bar seating and tables. Service has always been lovely. They do have food and most of it looks pretty good. I'll have to return to have a proper meal sometime but on my last visit I did try the pretzel twists. They were good but nothing mind blowing. The mimosa carafe was a good ratio of champaign to orange juice. The Bloody Mary was perfectly spiced and thick. The beer list was endless!! The gluten free mac and cheese was 11/10 good. Highly recommend. The non gluten free people even said it tasted good- that's how you know it's good! The crispy waffle smash burger was a great meal meant perfectly for brunch. This was our first time going to Kansas City. We were staying in Westport and we decided to take a walk in the snowstorm in the first place we came to was the beer kitchen. I can't recommend this place enough ! My friend and I accidentally found this spot on accident after visiting the art museum while we were in town and we haven't stopped thinking about it since. We came in for happy hour and ordered drinks, truffle fries, and fried zucchini and were not disappointed. I came down here last Monday after a fantastic time at the Nelson Atkins Museum to grab a quick bite to eat before we headed over to supernatural body piercings. We need more restaurants like Beer Kitchen, period. Beer Kitchen offers the perfect elevated American bar food experience. They've got burgers, but they've got deviled egg toast. They've got fish and chips, but they've got butternut squash tacos. I had some friends and town and was looking for a spot with tasty food that wouldn't break the bank or be too stuffy - Beer Kitchen answers that with truffle fries and wild salmon bowls. They have a little something for everyone, with both a gluten free and vegan menu, and they have a killer happy hour with large food items - like 2 sliders for $6. Our server was kind and attentive, letting us try beers before making our selections. The space was comfortable and laid back. The only off-putting thing about this place isn't even true - when I hear "Beer Kitchen," I think Applebee's, Chili's, etc. It's giving franchise. But I think it's a standalone Gastropub restaurant concept, and therefore it's a standout in Westport 10/10 and will keep this on my list for any guests in town. read more

To secure a table, we made reservations for the first seating at 9am and were the first to arrive, snagging a cozy corner spot. The restaurant's decor is retro with a rustic charm. Our server, despite being in training, was excellent--friendly, attentive, and helpful. We kicked off brunch with a carafe of mimosas, perfectly balanced with just a splash of orange juice, and a Wake & Bake Mary, which my husband declared one of the best Bloody Marys he's had (second only to mine!). For starters, we enjoyed Baby Donuts with cereal milk anglaise and fresh raspberry jam--highly recommended. Our main dishes included the Crabacado Benny (5-stars), the Bacon Cheddar Omelette (a bit too salty), and the Brioche French Toast.
