the newest trend these days is called biohacking., and Red Light Therapy is one of the modern-day biohacking techniques that has gained a lot of popularity in recent times.
I was very fortunate to have found Beem and have been a 'frequent flyer' for them. Since becoming a 'founding' member from the early part of their recruitment, I purchased and unlimited membership, which provides me access to both red light therapy as well as a sauna.
Beem has some of the friendliest staff around. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by such great staff such as Abby, Samantha, or the manager Katy (and a few others, who I haven't had the pleasure of getting to know as of yet). They are there to explain all the options that are available for you, and provide you with additional towels as well as a 'wet facecloth' that is very refreshing for after your sessions. These towelettes are soaked in a cucumber based substance (my belief) and provides a great refreshing feeling after sitting in the sauna or getting your red light therapy.
Beem is conveniently located off of Tryon Road in the Walmart shopping center. It is a smallish facility from the outside, but inside it is quite spacious.
The first room that is on the left side is one of the red light therapy rooms. When you enter, it looks like a 'tanning bed', however it is much cleaner and much easier to use. The staff set a timer for you from the outside, and it 'beeps' half way through to allow you to turn over or just to know that you are half way through the session. These sessions last approximately 15 minutes. Since these are 'infrared' they do provide you with goggles that will block the infrared from your eyes. The amount of infrared that you are receiving is doing your body justice, but not enough to actually harm you. Studies have shown that infrared therapy can help with:
Pain relief: Infrared light can help relieve pain and muscle tension by improving circulation and reducing inflammation.
Wound healing: Infrared light can help wounds heal faster and promote cell regeneration by increasing blood flow of oxygen-rich blood.
Skin health: Infrared light can improve skin complexion and purify skin.
I personally started using it for pain relief, as I have shoulder issues. After going here for a few weeks, my shoulders started feeling better and has given me more flexibility.
Personally, I like to go into the Sauna afterwards, where I am able to push the temperature up. There are 8 different light settings that are available, which give you different benefits. According to their guide (posted on the window within the sauna),
RED: Energy - red brings warmth, energy, and stimulation. Good for fatigue and energizes circulation
PINK: Soothing - pink is calming, soothing and eliminates impurities from the blood stream
ORANGE - Happiness - orange brings enthusiasm, confidence, joyfulness and assists with digestive health
YELLOW: Cheerfulness - yellow stimulates happiness, gives mental clarity, inspires and purifies the skin
GREEN: BALANCE - green helps reduce the symptoms of depression, stress, insomnia and helps fight infection
TURQUOISE - Uplifting - turquoise rejuvenates the skin, relaxes feelings of stress, and is cleansing to the body
BLUE - Calming - blue reduces blood pressure and relieves headaches. Great for relaxing the mind and body
VIOLET - Strengthen - violet soothes the nervous systems, improves immunity and inflammation.
Inside of these saunas, they also provide you with an IPAD where you can connect to YouTube, watch Netflix, or anything else. I personally use it to find a soothing station on YouTube and listen to the 'Zen' type of music that radiates throughout the sauna. There are also different lighting options where you can make it darker or lighter. (I prefer darkness, so i can try to destress my mind while enjoying the benefits of the heat).
When booking your session, you may want to see if the shower is available. they do have 1 shower, and it books up rather quickly. So, if you do plan on going during the day and need to get back to work, this is a great option for you to have.
After the sessions are over, they have a small 'snack area' where you can purchase some snacks. There isn't a huge display, but there are some available.
Overall, the concept of Beem is fantastic. They have so much to offer and with their unlimited monthly package, it is quite beneficial to utilize it to the max. as noted previously, I'm a 'frequent flyer' and go nearly everyday. I have seen some great benefits from it, as I've had some long lasting ailments and have noticed small changes over the last few weeks that I've been going. If you are not convinced, then try them out. You will not be disappointed. read more
