First time at Beefy's on Harlem. I've passed by this place many times and never thought to go in. Today, I was very hungry and wanted something different. I am glad I tried them out. Service was very helpful and patient with my trying to decide what to order. I ordered an Italian beef with red sauce and fries. It was amazing. Ambience is great. I tried several different items here but finally had it after tonight's stupid response about an order I placed. Beaded steak is good but get it before 6pm otherwise you'll be tasting burnt red sauce that's been sitting at tge bottom of the pot all day and it will taste gross. Greek chicken is good and comes with fries. They put the fries in the same container with the chicken that has the juice/grease so you're eating all soggy fries. They do not put the fries in a seperate bag, just throw it in with the chicken. No common sense used for that who wants soggy soaked fries in chicken grease? Beef is hit or miss not always the same taste. They don't understand "dipped" apparently they think it means add a little beef gravy on it. Gyros is very good but make sure you get sauce on the side, they are cheap with the sauce. Placed an order on line tonight for a gyros sandwich and I clicked everything AND sauce. I got home and only had sauce on it. I called and spoke to the manager and she said I was supposed to click only everything. Everything includes sauce but clicking sauce with everything it confuses the WHOLE STAFF! By clicking everything AND sauce, it's confusing for the people there. Confusing? I clicked everything and sauce not sure what's confusing about it, it's two boxes give me what I check. I can check tomato, onion and sauce and that's still everything, is that confusing too? They must have been so confused by the two boxes I checked they weren't sure if they should put sauce on my gyros and that's why they went extremely easy to make sure I choked on the dry meat. The manager asked if I wanted the sandwich remade. That's a big fat NO! I'm home, you think I want to drive 15 minutes back there? I would have been okay, not fine but okay, if they at least loaded some sauce on the gyros to give it some flavor. I threw it away. There was no flavor with out the onion and sauce. Here's a pic of my dry sandwich. Maybe someone can show it the manager and make sure they get confused and put too little sauce on someone else sammich! I need a drink just looking at this pic! DO BETTER MANAGER! THAT WAS A STUPID RESPONSE. MAKES YOUR STAFF SEEM SLOW SAYING IT CONFUSES THEM. IF I CHECKED THE BOXES YOU GIVE ME WHAT I ORDER AND IT BECOMES MY FAULT IF I DIDN'T GET WHAT I WANT. I've always really enjoyed beefys for a lot of different reasons. The serving sizes are usually pretty solid, the food isn't life changing but it's consistent, and it's usually an in and out experience - don't usually have to wait very long for the food. As a pizza fan, I love how they have slices available. My only gripe is that the pizza is very thick, extremely doughy. I think if they went for a more thin option, it would generate a lot more hype. I've had everything else from the gyros which overflows with meat, hot dogs are typical of Chicago, and the burgers have been solid as well. Well worth checking this out if you're looking to change it up from going to Portillo's. read more

I wouldn't have given this place 1 star if possible! I have not patronized this place for quite some time after 20 years of going there often. Unfortunately my wife will stop there in a pinch and like in the past what was in the bag when she got home was not what we ordered. Not only did they give us the wrong sandwiches but she asked them all with no tomatoes and true to form tomatoes on all of them! Horrible! Everything I had here was delicious and the service was great. On the first day I had a slice of sausage pizza which was very cheesy and lots of sausage! I also had their Italian beef which was one of the better ones I had while in Chicago. I also had their half chicken dinner, it is a juicy chicken with delicious herbs served with a baked potato and garlic bread. I loved the food! read more

They are very friendly here. They also provide hand sanitizer on every single table which I think is really cool. My fiancé ordered the Italian beef and sausage combo with a large fry. His was somewhere around $11. He had cheese and hot peppers added, which is not included. He enjoyed his food. I had a gyro plate for $9.99. Mine came with a pita, soup, fries and obviously gyro meat. I did enjoy my food but the meat was overcooked on majority of my pieces. I will definitely come back, maybe next time I'll try one of their burgers. read more

My wife and I stopped on March 3, 2024 to eat a quick meal. I have been patronizing this spot for over 20 years. I have never had a problem with the food or service. I ordered a gyro sandwich as it is my favorite from this spot. The meat was completely dried out and barely any onions, tomatoes or sauce. I would have complained but I was actually shocked at the content of my food. I didn't see the owner whom I have met numerous times. I won't stop eating from there, but , next time I am going to make a complaint. read more

Beefy's is a wonderful fast food establishment in my old neighborhood. It is ALWAYS crowded - but their food is so good I don't mind the wait. My husband gets the big beef. I get a regular size - and they are really good solid Chicago beefs. Their fries are really good and somehow stay warm during the ride home. That being said, the fries need more salt. Hot peppers are really good. I don't know about the sweet peppers as I am exclusively a hot pepper girl. You can eat in or carry out-I prefer to carry out. UPDATING Sept 2018: Much improved pizza from the pizza warmer. I've been here several times since I left the review on the pizza being all dough and no cheese or toppings and visibly the pizza looked better but I hadn't tried it. Today I tried it and the management or owners have addressed the concerns I had. Today's pizza was really great. Perfectly fresh and the dough was soft and fresh too. Thank you Beefy's. I've had decent meals here before but this visit was terrible. I had the cheese pizza and ordered it only because it was fresh out of the oven. They served me from one that must've been sitting for so long I had no choice but to throw it in the trash and head to another place for lunch. It wasn't busy, they should've tossed the very old pizza and served the fresh one. I'll attach a couple pictures in the hopes that an owner or manager might see how unappetizing the old pizza they serve is for customers. read more

3.5 stars for the beef. My buddy has mentioned Beefy's beef so many damn times. How he grew up with it, loves it, ships it out of state to his Mom because she loves it too. My friend got the dog and a Philly steak w/fries. They have Free style coke (I don't see those often, and I like em'..diet cherry please). We sat ourselves at a table and waited for our order to be called. The menu is huge. Burgers, dogs, gyros, soups, ribs...etc...even pizza slices (I passed). Anything to satisfy your fatty food cravings including desserts. Some healthy choices too. I never come to places like this for healthy reasons though... Everything is made to order. Took a good 15-20 min. No problemo. More customers started coming in. Never got crowded though. My beef arrives hot and steamy. Yes, super steamy. I had to wait before diggin in. It was pretty big and messy. Bread was juicy. I cut in half and dove into it. I felt like a slob. First bite was juicy, wet, super thin, good beef, I think I'm likin it, but need more cause I'm not sure. Another bite and another and I couldn't pinpoint it... but it was missing something flavor wise. I eat half and suddenly I have a beef revelation. Beefy's beef reminds me of home cooked beef...like a really good quality deli store bought roast beef, sliced super thin and warmed up in au jus at home. You cook it for maybe 5 minutes. Just right on timing. Such succulent beef that you crave more, yet your tastebuds keep wanting to be flavorized. You're on the verge of a beefgasm, but not quite there yet...and the story stops here.. My friend dug his dog. His Philly steak looked nothing like a Philly. Loads of melted mozz with peppers, mushrooms, grilled onions and beef strips. I snagged a piece of meat and it was chewy. They really need to rename this sandwich. Philly-ers would be horrified I'm sure. Service was great. They asked if we needed more containers or bags. I saw a girl cleaning the tables. They even said goodbye as we were leaving. I have driven past this place countless times, and finally tried it. With a name like Beefy's, it's got to be good, right? Food is cooked to order, and was ready in a short time. There's a couple of benches to sit while waiting, and a large seating area. Hubby's dipped beef with hot giardinera was huge and tasty. I had the gyros, a huge portion. Good but not outstanding. Fries OK. It's very clean inside, good sized,easily accessible parking lot. Service was efficient and friendly. Lots of variety on the menu, and there was a dessert case. And beer. It took me years to try Beefy's, but I surely will return to try some of their other offerings. read more

While driving through down Harlem avenue one Sunday afternoon a place called Beefy's caught my attention. After seeing some Vienna Beef signage I decided to stop in here and give the hot dog a try. One of the first things I noticed was that they serve Green River soda. I ordered two hot dog and fries special, splitting one for myself and one for my friend, a green river and waited patiently for my order to be ready. A few minutes later the food was out and I took my seat. One of the first things I noticed about this hot dog was the excessive condiment application. The pickle on this hot dog was easily as thick as the sausage itself. the tomato slices were huge as well, the mustard and relish were applied a little too generously. There were also two huge cucumber slices on this dog, and two fairly large sport peppers.The onions were well chopped and well applied, but the overall combination left me with a somewhat soggy bun due to all the juice from all the condiments and toppings. The bun itself was a non-poppy seed bun. The star of the show here was a perfectly heated natural casing frank. While the texture of this hot dog was soggy and messy, and had a difficult to bite through giant pickle on it. The excessive pickle size forced me to take the pickle off to enjoy the hot dog. Once I did this, the overall taste of the hot dog was excellent, even if it was falling apart. While not the messiest hot dog I've ever seen, or the biggest pickle spear I've ever seen, these two elements really brought down the score on this dog. The fries included were thick and had a hard not particularly soft or flavorful potato paste on the inside. They were fairly salty but overall my all of my qualifications for a very quick trip to the trash after having sampled only a few of them. I'd recommend skipping the fries here. Overall this was a hot dog that was soggy, and difficult to hold. It had a pickle larger than the dog itself, but the quality of the sausage used and overall good ingredients spared it from being a total disaster to an average hot dog. I'd say if one were to order this with no pickle spear, you might be in luck and get an excellent tasting hot dog. I'd say this place is average, though the hot dog here was a mess, it actually wound up tasting surprisingly good for how off the assembly of it was. I'll give it three stars. read more

I decided to try this for dinner. This place is across the street from Audio Logic on Harlem Avenue. Their service was excellent. It was fast, and it was made greatly! I ordered an Italian beef sandwich with cheese and cheese fries for take-out. The food was warm (in a good way). There wasn't that much cheese on the beef sandwich, but the beef had a great flavor! The taste was delicious! The fries had a lot of cheese. The fries were okay with the cheese. There was some flavor that was okay too. I am starting to really like Beefy's! Great service and food!
